Food was great however we had several issues that took a while to resolve - tried to order on app and got to payment / checkout and couldn’t get to actually pay - went to bar and ordered and was you’d that 25% off voucher wouldn’t work as I had already tried to use it on the app that didn’t work - after 10 mins barmaid got to a close figure by deducting the drinks - not quite 25% off £163 but at this point was close enough. Server at carvery didn’t know the pigs in blankets came with the works however he was really good and the food was quality. Waiting staff were really good and clearly ran off their feet but really good. I will advise people to come but not use the app as it isn’t reliable enough and really frustrating - think it needs looking into.

Went to the takeaway bar and ordered the two fish cakes with chips which was a very reasonable price. I shared it with my daughter but we couldn’t eat all of it as the portion is a very good size even for two sharing. Although it took a while for the food to be ready, we didn’t mind as it was cooked to order and not sitting around, we had a lovely view from the outside table and the sun was out so no problem there. The food was really tasty and I’d definitely return for more. As for the other reviews about the kitchen staff arguing, I find it hilarious as if you'd ever seen or worked inside a working kitchen as I have, you’d know that it’s all just banter, you’ve got to be a bit tough in a kitchen as it’s a hot stressful job, you just don’t usually see it from your cool and comfy seat at the table! I didn’t witness anything other than professional behaviour from all staff here on this visit though.

If management could check regularly that the hands and fingernails of their staff are clean it would be appropriate. It's been gross to watch the preparation of the cocktails I've ordered by a young lady at the bar. The fingers and nails looked filthy also using measures for fizzy mixers aswell inappropriate. Place has an unpleasant smell. Not coming back. Thankfully I didn't order food.

So used to frequent this pub a lot and back in area so thought a lazy bank holiday afternoon on the river with my sister would be just the job. We were seated at our table to be told 2 mins later we were at the wrong table and asked to move. Said table remained empty for the rest of the afternoon. We ordered drinks and food. The starters were ok but nothing special Mushrooms just a few and squid which was just average. Our main course was chicken - ok and pork belly - very difficult to cut right through the slow cooked meat . During our meal out drinks ran out and no attempt was made to ask if we wanted more - a missed opportunity Also we sitting next to water/sauces fridge which was constantly left open with a waiter also smashing a glass next to us. They cleared the table but again no attempt to ask us if we wanted more . We eventually got the waiter’s attention and ordered more drinks and dessert. My sister’s Apple tart was great but I ordered the cheese and biscuits 3 of the tiniest bits of cheese the chutney took up more space on the plate all in all a very disappointing visit and sadly will not be visiting again.

Not been to the Polecat before so it was a real treat to find it busy, lovely ambience, super staff and very tasty food. It was a bank holiday weekend and the place was heaving. We had the roast which was huge and tasty except for the roast potatoes which were a little hard, but that is my only negative and it is difficult to keep them fresh. Our server Harry was very charming and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend going there.

A Beautiful building spoiled by Wetherspoons unprofessional service. Awful lunch, warned up jacket potato in micro oven which was hard served with runny mashed mayo tuna miserable looking salad.one serviette for two people, drunken old men swearing , one member of staff behind bar. Main Entrance door to ladies toilet filthy and missing lock on toilet door. Poster advertising the once year opera but staff were unable to tell us the date.

Food was bland and disappointing, though it looks like they are trying to make up for it with quantity. Seems the chef doesn't want to be there. If you order sausage roll with fries, it will cost you £9. If you order it separately, it will be £7. That is, unless they give part of your order to someone else and then tell you they don't have any more, even though you already paid and been waiting for 10 minutes for the food. Just go anywhere else and you'll have better rating experience

Great place Much improved Lovely new landlords Would never have gone here before due to it's reputation but heard it was refurbished and had clean beer and glasses and no longer full of unsociable types. A credit to Wokingham If they can get a menu going it will be the making of the place. Regardless, a good place for a drink and a game of pool now.
