There is a shop & a cafe here, both super friendly and it overlooks the railway station so you can see the trains pull in. We turned up literally 5 minutes before the last train was due in & then they close. The cafe staff were clearly cleaning everything and packing up. We asked for 3 takeaway teas and the lady served us, which i was very grateful for as we were cold and a hot drink was very welcome. I also managed to squeeze a quick purchase at the shop as well. We also saw the last train draw up which was good timing on our part. Friendly and really nice people. Thank you.

Stopped here for food after going on the railway. Large selection of food and drink. It was incredibly busy and it wasn’t even the school holidays! Staff were nice and food came fairly quickly for how busy it was. There some dog friendly tables too.

A gem by the steam railway. I was really surprised that it wasn't too busy considering it was school holidays. No queue to speak of and plenty of clean tables. There was some delicious things on the menu reasonably priced too. I decided on the full English and a latte. Which came to 12.00 . I was given a buzzer which beeped when my order was ready. I didn't have to wait long and was really surprised because everything was freshly cooked and hot. Absolutely delicious. I ordered another latte because it was so good. Plenty of seating outside too. Clean toilets and a pleasant gift shop on site. Worth a visit

Extremely popular restaurant. It was very busy when we turned up with the car park full up with cars and coaches. Unfortunately some of the menu was unavailable. However Michael on the till was very helpful and suggested alternatives. Portion sizes were generous and the food was very good. We found it excellent value for money. The added benefit of seeing the trains up close made it extra special!

Lovely place expensive very basic food. Bought cheese salad that consisted of Iceberg lettice, tomatoes and cucumber and far too much cheese. Would have been better to have less cheese and a more interesting salad. Bread roll with margarine £1.75 Could have been a lovely experience but turn out the worst meal of the week

Firstly the queue was long & slow. Plenty of staff behind the counter though, really didn't get it. We got some sandwiches & cake from the fridge section. All dry & uninteresting. Cake shouldn't be on a fridge section. Shame because the outside seating by the station was great. Certainly wouldn't come again.

There hasn't been any great improvement since the last time we visited. Again we were calling in for a coffee but, this time, with a cake. Disappointing as no Gluten Free choices at all available for my wife and the coffee was machine made and mostly frothy milk. Only pluses, there's free parking, an interesting railway shop adjoining, it's got dog friendly areas and you can watch the trains and enjoy the views.

We are quite regular visitors here. Parking in the car park alongside the station is usually okay. It is more organised than in the past. Each space is marked with a wooden batten. Sadly hardly anyone bothers!!! The restaurant/cafe also houses the ticket office for the RHDR and a small shop. Recently it has become dog friendly. We usually sat outside in the garden, but after a walk across the nature reserve we are able to have a coffee and a snack inside. Tables are marked with 🐾 prints. Good coffee and a chance to watch the trains arrive and depart.

Triple check prices on their gifts. Purchased something today, item marked up as one price, then charged considerably more for it. When questioned after the transaction went through why the item was so much more Steve was rude and his little side kick wasn’t any better simply saying that yes the gifts have different prices on the label to what customers pay????

My father was ill over Christmas but wanted to get him out for dinner once he was feeling better, so after work drove him to this cafe at the RHDR which he loves. Couldn't find a phone number to check, so tweeted to ask they were open. After 24 hours and no reply I checked online and advertised as open everyday 09:30 to 16:15 with a full menu of hot food options to download. We left at 2 pm and 45 min drive later we arrived at Dungeness to find ourselves amongst dog walkers, ramblers, fishermen, and day trippers. We walked in to see two women sitting eating chocolate and drinking tea in a large modern metal and glass eatery which felt cold, characterless and uninviting. We asked for two hot meals only to be told kitchen is shut and we're closing in 15 mins. I said that's not what it says online. She replied well we're closing early because of the weather ??? It was a bit blustery as far as I saw and it rained in the morning. The Britannia Inn a few doors away looked busy in the car park! Staff didn't seem bothered. No customer service, I shall not be using them in the future if they can't be bothered to open the advertised time. Not so much as an apology. Waste of time, fuel and a disappointment.

We visited the RHDR on Tuesday, we arrived at the End of the Line at 1p.m and discovered they had no Jacket potatoes left. My wife is celiac so sandwiches, sausage rolls etc are of no use, the only option offered was a fried egg and chips! Seriously, in the half term week to run out that early? There only appeared to be 3 staff manning the entire kitchen and people were waiting a long time for food, our egg &chips took 20 minutes. Apart from the Brittania Inn there is no other option at Dungeness so they have a moderately captive clientele. Not impressed.

Where to start? Service: the two ladies serving were both quite rude and shouldn't be people facing. When a gent before me in the queue asked for a pasty was told bluntly "run out", he asked for a specific sandwich and was told "self service, go back and get it". He was blatantly not impressed. I asked for a cream tea and told they don't do them, however, they do sell all the ingredients but just not as an item. I went with this and my wife had one. I had a tea and a sausage roll. Absolutely nothing special and at £10.30, no way value for money. As a place at the end of the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway, it's well presented and clean with good facilities. Please train your staff to be be a bit more polite, either revisit your pricing or improve the quality and you have a winner. Hence only rated a 2.

I've wanted to visit Dungeness for a long time, so jumped at the chance to visit on the railway. Plan was to have lunch, a quick stroll and get the train back. Not so. Instead, I spent most of an hour stood in a queue, only to get to the front (with a now much downgraded order of takeaway chips) to be told that there was a 20 minute wait for food and our train was due in 8 minutes. So instead, I paid £15 for some crisps, kitkats and drinks for the family. The restaurant was in chaos, the staff stressed (and invited me to make a complaint) and we left hungry, seeing practically nothing of the place we'd come to visit. Its half term. 3 staff would never have been enough

Quibble - I don't recon 0900 to 1600 is all day! We were disappointed to find breakfast didn't start until nine as we are birders (plenty of whom very regularly visit Dungeness) who like to be out at the crack of dawn and are starving by 8.00am. We had a meeting locally so could not chance a first sitting. However, we decided after the meeting to have a very late (midday) breakfast. The service was phenomenally fast (big thanks for that). My de-caf fresh black coffee was surprisingly acceptable... not too weak which is often the case.Breakfast was... OK. My veggie breakfast was a slight variation (no sausage but an extra egg as requested) which was not a problem to them. Eggs were a bit flacid... I'm a fan a fast-fried eggs which keeps the yolk runny but ALL the white cooked through... why do English eateries not offer more 'cooked to order' eggs? The (tinned?) sliced mushrooms are a terrible let down.. virtually no taste. An uncooked very slightly skin singed tomato did nothing for me either. beans, Toast, 'hashbrowns' were fine. Bouquet - Just about the most modern, clean and fresh smelling toilets I've ever seen. A fully fitted disabled toilet too. Very well done as such facilities are rarely given the attention we all want and when I eat out and find the 'facilities' poor quality it always makes me fear about kitchen hygiene. Five star loos (and these were) deserve plaudits.

What a very odd way to run a business; no hot or freshly prepared food served due to an order of fish and chips being mde by another group. We sat outside like pariahs where our food became cold in moments. I chose tomato and basil soup with a roll - big mistake - soup was tinned tomatoes with a few chunks of frozen veg thrown in for ‘good measure’ - no sign of any basil, bland and very unimpressive- probably cost 40p to make and they charged me £6 - oh yes and the roll was an enormous bap, fresh at some point in the week, but like cardboard now - not the best!!!!My husband had fish and chips and would have thoroughly enjoyed it had we not had to sit outside with our dangerous dog!!! As members of the RHDR we like to support whenever we can, so we chose to drop in for a coffee while at Dungeness at about 2.30pm. Now, whilst we recognise that it had been unusually good weather at the beginning of Spring, so the Cafe may not have been well-staffed and might have had a swell of people for lunch before our arrival, what we were quite frankly appalled at was the dirtiness of the cafe dining area. There were only a couple of other people in the dining area. There were a couple of staff sitting having a drink near the servery. The dining area had crockery uncleared on several tables. None of the tablecloths were wiped sufficiently clean, leaving crumbs on all of them and several were badly stained from spillages. In addition the floor needed a good sweep in several areas as there were significant levels of food crumbs spread about. The coffee was not good, with a taste similar to when left on a hotplate for a period. At the price charged we expect better!Given that we could have gone to 2 other venues nearby for a coffee we were very disappointed with this experience. It left us feeling frankly that we will check the area before ordering when we visit in future. Not a good advertisement for the RHDR!The redeeming factor was the friendliness of the servery staff.

We last came here before the big refit, when the place was dated but very charming and old-school with it. Now it more closely resembles a hospital canteen, which is a shame. It was empty of customers when we arrived, but every table by the window was really dirty with spilled salt and congealed ketchup splashes. We asked the younger of the two staff members if she could clean a table for us and she replied with a brusque "yep." We noticed she didn't take the opportunity to clean any of the other tables. The hot food options were limited (no veggie breakfast for example) so as they were empty we asked if they could do cheese on toast for us. "No, we can't I'm afraid. Everything we do is on the menu over there." Not a big deal, but it was pretty obvious that we knew cheese on toast wasn't on the menu - that's why asked if it was possible. We then thought we might like tea and cake, but the cakes were in the chiller and were absolutely freezing, so in the end we just had a cup of tea each and shared a 4-finger KitKat.Final thing to note, while we were looking at the chiller and talking to the member of staff, her colleague seemed to be skulking behind kitchen equipment staring at us in, we felt, a contemptuous manner. This might be an unfair assessment and she just have been having a bad day or been wearing an unfortunate expression. Not in a big rush to return!

Located at the end of the Romney Hythe & Railway this place has recently been enlarged and modernised. Plenty of car parking and good views over Dungeness dunes. The small scale trains stop right outside the cafe. Unpretentious short menu. We had sausage, egg and chips and a Prawn Jacket Potatoe with salad. Both were freshly prepared and excellent quality and at a reasonable price. Tables are very basic and you help yourself to cutlery and condiments but dirty dishes are cleared quickly and everything is clean and tidy. Overall well worth a visit.

My wife and I had been walking around the various nature reserves in the area wildlife spotting, it was lunch time so we decided to go the the end of the line restaurant at the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway Dungeness. We entered and found that it was very busy as a train had recently stopped at the station, we began to think this was a mistake, but how wrong we were, there was quite a queue at the counter which seemed to diminish at warp speed due to the efficiency of the staff, we managed to find a small table for two which was clean and within a few minutes our order arrived, the food was very nice and at a reasonable price, the latte coffee was also very nice, so much better and cheaper than Costa. The staff were excellent, hard working, efficient and very friendly, so rare nowadays, top marks to the management and staff for a pleasant experience.

Basic cafe, for drinks, cakes and easy meals, it's fine, limited but functional and is the gift shop and ticket office for the light railway. Good for a cup of tea after a walk on the reserve.

If you are waiting for a train on the RH&DR then the air conditioned cafe provides a welcome respite from the summer heat. Good choice of food and drinks.

Visiting the RHDR, this is a nice place to sit and look out onto Dungeness and the trains whilst having lunch. Hot pasty was tasty. Good value and profits will help the railway.

We have eaten here several times and always liked the food. It’s pleasant and the portions are good. It can get quite busy but the service is still very good.

Had a quick bite here before heading back to Hythe on the train, we didn't eat in but instead chose to eat our sandwiches on the train, reasonable price and quite tasty, only criticism is my sandwich was supposed to be a tuna and sweet corn according to the label but there was no sweet corn in site!

Cafe has much improved since a couple of years ago. Travelled on the railway on a charter for evening dinner at the cafe, which is at Dungeness Station of the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, the end of the line (hence what cafe is called). Fish and chips was fresh and nicely cooked, served with peas and a chunk of lemon. Dessert was a choice between hot apple pie with ice cream, or raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, all very nice. Followed by tea and coffee. A lovely evening out in summer, the railway holds a couple of evening trips with dinner here for everyone in summer months. Very pleasant. There is outside seating too, a shop, and good toilet facilities here. Worth the trip.

I had the full English breakfast, acceptable but not outstanding. The restaurant is clean with friendly helpful staff. You can sit in a window seat and take in the views and the trains as they approach and leave the station. Excellent stuff.

Decaf coffee was instant. No hot milk available. Served with no effort with granules floating on top. Extortionate so refused it. All that opportunity to serve a really good coffee to all those day trippers missed . Poor show .

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find a modern-looking cafe in this out of the way spot while exploring the Dungeness area. First impressions were encouraging as the place seemed spacious, clean enough and the menu, though very basic, was OK. I ordered a sausage breakfast bap, my wife a bacon one. The food was ready within a few minutes and drinks were available immediately. Immediately I picked up my bap I could see two disappointing things; the sausage was dry and obviously had been re-heated (or maybe just kept warm). More important was the fuzz attached to the bottom of my bap. I tugged at it thinking it was dust or a bit of spider web. It just kept coming and when I turned it over about a quarter of the base was covered in mould - a mix of grey and blue. I took it back to the server at the till. Granted she was a bit busy with two customers waiting but when I asked her what she thought the material on my bap was, she dismissed it as "just the dust from the baking paper". Nonetheless she took it from me and handed it to the "chef" who immediately chucked it in the bin and went off to get another. No apology, no acknowledgment I'd been served food unfit to eat. Very disappointing. I felt I was lied to to cover up a mistake, possibly to reassure the waiting customers. I know what a floury bap looks like and this wasn't it. This reaction just compounded my initial concern and disappointment. Perhaps the cook could be forgiven for not spotting a mouldy bun but an apology or even an expression of concern would have gone a long way once it was pointed out.My wife said her coffee was not very nice though her bacon bap was OK. As visitors to the area, we're unlikely to come back to Dungeness but if we do we certainly won't return to the End Of The Line restaurant.

Had lunch here yesterday and were impressed with the modern decor, and wonderful views over the marshes unless, of course, a train was in which whilst being fascinating did slightly interfere with the view. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was good, tasty and well presented. It was not haute cuisine but you didn't come here for that, but affords a visitor to this captivatingly unique strangely haunting area, a most welcome watering hole.

Love having lunch watching the trains and enjoying the view. Winter menu slightly more restricted ( my favourite is chilli and chips which disappears in the winter) food comes quickly and generally fresh and hot.

This is the cafe at the end of the railway so is useful and has a fairly captive clientele. It does not have a very appealing atmosphere, and feels like a 'greasy spoon'. Most tables needed wiping and when they were wiped the crumbs headed for the floor. Our coffee was just about adequate.

It was getting to the end of the day and we just wanted a coffee and cake. The cake didn’t look good so didn’t bother and the latte tasted as if it had come out of a packet and was sweet. The mint tea was tasteless. The place was like sitting in a station waiting room, which is what it was. The only good bit was watching the little train come in and people squeezing into the carriages.

Tried it, as it's local. Lovely inside, tables and chairs could do with some nicer ones as they look like ones in a school. Scrambled eggs and salmon very nice however the mushrooms on the big breakfast are absolutely a disgrace.

The cafe is modern and looks clean and tidy. It has plenty of space. We ordered two cups of tea and a jacket potato and a bacon bap. The tea was hot, the jacket potato was well cooked and hot (there was also a good side salad). The bacon bap was tasty but a bit fatty and not as hot as I would like. Overall a good lunch for a sensible price.

We tried to catch afternoon tea, but were appalled by the downmarket clientele. We immediately left. Avoid at all cost.

Food was bland and disappointing, though it looks like they are trying to make up for it with quantity. Seems the chef doesn't want to be there. If you order sausage roll with fries, it will cost you £9. If you order it separately, it will be £7. That is, unless they give part of your order to someone else and then tell you they don't have any more, even though you already paid and been waiting for 10 minutes for the food. Just go anywhere else and you'll have better rating experience

We had booked a room in the adjoining B&B (highly recommended) and also reserved a table at the Famous Ship Inn. Our drive from our home Devon took us over 7 hours (thank you M25 and M20) so we were only just in time for our reservation. The inn itself is very old but we were shown to a table in a modern conservatory on the south side. The food and service were impeccable and the place was doing a great trade, which created a warm and enjoyable atmosphere. This was an excellent dining experience.

We popped in for lunch. We were not staying at the "hotel" so cannot comment on the rooms. The food is excellent, if a little overpriced. As are the drinks. An example is a pint of lager shandy was priced at £6.35 and noted as a pint of Birra Moretti on the bill. I raised this but they said they "could not change it". And the larger used was not Birra Moretti! That is disappointing and, for me, that's a deal breaker.
