Used to pop in for breakfast but prices rose and I found better value and produce up the road. This venue is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Lots of seating to choose from and it is bright. Seems well staffed but tables are slowly cleared away. Took a friend for a. Upon and slice of cake. Two cakes, tea and posh coffee £17. Cakes are a good size.

The carvery is now a staggering £15.99. I ordered expecting something lovely and left feeling totally ripped-off. For my £15.99 all I received was 2 slices of just warm chicken and some stuffing, 2 cool roasted potatoes, 3 carrots, a small spoonful of beetroot and gravy. I shall be finding another establishment in future.

Very disappointing visit for Sunday lunch. Waited so long to pay the dinners were cold. My 99 year old step mum refused to eat it but to be honest it wasn’t the most attractive meal. Way over priced. Restaurant full of young staff with no apparent manager in site. No cutlery. Very poor management of cleaning and we sat looking at a mountain of dirty dishes. No customer service ie sorry for keeping you waiting more like a grunt

As we live quite near the Garden Centre, we pop in occasionally for lunch, and to buy some plants or other goodies. On this occasion we had some lunch. My wife and I both had jacket potatoes. I had the coronation chicken jacket potato, it was tasty, but at few pennies short of £10.00, I would have expected a potato that was a bit larger than an extra large chicken egg. I know the price of everything has gone up, but at least serve a proper sized potato.

A friend who has autism used to work at this plant center where he was bullied by various management staff and directors and as such has great knowledge of this place which I have been to and can verify. Firstly the car park is very small and has to handle large trucks as well and of course has to handle people too it is a very unsuitable car park. This company relies very heavily on imported goods which means prices are high on top of this most products are adequate at best personally I find better quality items on eBay at a much fairer price. Paths have some trip hazards so walk carefully. The restaurant is very expensive and the food is atrocious that it actually makes McDonald's food look good. The variety of plants is about the only positive thing here. Now onto Birdworld my friend worked at here briefly during winter months was bullied by the head gardener several times walked in on a member of staff playing with himself in a area that has lots of kids who instead of being fired was simply moved to forest lodge because he had friends in high places makes me sick my friend also recognised that the some of the birds have very small enclosures especially the Artic owls who have long wingspans and need room to glide because of this the owl collided with the siding he was also attacked as a child by a bird because the bird didn't like baseball caps and the member of staff at the time wasn't doing their job properly and recognising this. Management is very lackluster and show no leadership skills whatsoever. Being a customer here is not worth it very overpriced and mediocre at best and being a employee here is not worth it either your not treated with any respect.

I regularly stop at this Garden Centre for lunch and sadly the food portions are nothing like they used to be. I also agree with the previous review that there is no system to get the food quickly and paid for. You have to wait for such a long time to pay as regardless of how many customers are there only one till is open. The jacket potato was lovely but now all you get is a small ramekin of chilli by the side which amounts to about 3 mouthfuls of chilli! Previously the chilli was fairly generous and spread over the jacket potato. £9.95 seems a lot of money for what you get 😔

Dreadfully slow service. This restaurant is set up to be super efficient with a nice layout and plenty of space but it is totally disorganised and chaotic. There is no point having anything hot off the buffet as its stone cold by the time you finally get to pay and wait for a hot drink. Food can be bland and often tastes stale. Open both tills ! Where is the management?? Such a shame.

Went for family lunch mid week - shocking the poor service as it took 40minutes just to get a jacket and two other mains from the counters despite it being very quite. Lots of staff - too many - but all very young and not at all managed for flow (must be loosing vast amount of revenue opportunity). Quality of food was awful- cold jacket, cold mains and the food was clearly pre packed and maybe from day before. Crockery not clean, eg lipstick on clean glasses to which lady said that’s how they come out of the machine! Avoid. Used to be a great restaurant until it changed hands.

This is one of the most expensive gardens centres I have ever been to. Even when prices are high generally, Forest Lodge is priced way beyond the others. We have eaten a couple of times in the restaurant and the food is nothing special, even if the prices are. Food was not particularly hot and by the time coffee's are made and you've sat down, the food is almost back to is pre-cooked frozen state. I personally suggest you support your local provatelty run garden centres instead of using Haskins - my local one is a much nicer and less expensive visit every time.

After my last bad experience at this restaurant, we were passing and thought we would give it another try. Big mistake! Decided to have a light lunch of the leek and potato soup. The service was mediocre. The soup was like dishwater, very thin and tasteless. Tried to revive it with lots of salt and pepper, but to no avail. We left most of it, along with the stale bread. Almost £14 wasted. Thought we would try a coffee and cake. The variety of cakes was quite good, but we were not prepared to pay the extortionate prices. We used to love the bread pudding which was a sizeable piece, and often used to call in to get a piece to take away. . Now, it’s a sad, thin offering, and much more expensive. So, just opted for a couple of coffees. Unfortunately, the hot drinks counter was complete chaos. A couple of lads virtually tripping over each other due to not having any sort of system. Next time we are in the vicinity, we won’t be dropping by, we will be driving by.

Popped In for lunch on A dull wet snowy afternoon, and the restaurant, its staff and the food were just as miserable. Hubby had the Pork Carvery( if you could call it that). The poor man took his life in his hands asking for A 3rd slice of meat, very brave considering the look on the rottweilers face serving. I made the mistake of the Macaroni Cheese, with soft soggy, non garlicky garlic bread. And we had 2 coffees and just over £30 had gone on what can only be described as very poor quality food. The staff were all totally disinterested in what they were doing, perhaps its not A good place to work, but without people like myself and all the others popping in, they would be out of work! The only time it got slightly exciting was when everyone started singing happy birthday, now I believe this was the staff, although I couldn't tell from the table we were sat at. It could of been for Doris or Doreen doing the hot drinks at 2mph, perhaps they had reached A certain milestone. We actually made our way through about half of the meals, before giving up, on the Macaroni Cheese that actually had developed A strange type of skin on it, A bit like custard, and I actually had to use A knife and Fork to get through the Macaroni. I won't go into too many details about the £14 carvery and its solid crackling, except to say that Toby has got absolutely nothing to worry about at all. Couldn't actually quite work out if the Macaroni and other cremated dried out bits under the heat lamps had been made by A qualified chef (I hope not) or been cooked from frozen A few hours back. So all I can say is avoid this place like the plague unless of course, you want to waste your money. Just wish I had bought the remainder of the Macaroni home, as I forgot that I needed to stop for some Polyfiller on the way home.

We were seated after they took our details. The menu has changed a bit from before and prices gone up a little bit but our breakfast was yummy and Mum had poached eggs on toast. Tables are well spaced out and there were sanitizer stations for hand cleaning, they have a one way system for entering and leaving which was being managed by the lady in charge. They have got it right here. We felt very safe and will be returning again soon.

We had lunch here last weekend. I am sad to say, it was one of the worst lunches we have ever had. The children couldn’t eat their lunches except for the chips, one had macaroni cheese and the other chicken goujons ( quality of the goujons was poor see picture) the peas were so overcooked, he loves peas but couldn’t eat them, he could only eat half the chips. Goujons were dry and overcooked. My other son said the macaroni cheese was bland and sweet. I tasted it and it was really sweet. Very unpleasant. I had a jacket potato with “spiced” chicken curry. Huge chunks of tough chicken in a bland sauce ( literally chunks of chicken and sauce with nothing else) I am afraid I just couldn’t eat it, it turned my stomach. My husband’s was probably the best , Rarebit. And the salad, it was full of brown edged soggy lettuce, wish I had got a picture of it. Insulting to be served up salad that should be in the bin to paying customers.. all our salad was browning. Nobody asked us how the food was or if we enjoyed our meal and we had to pay at the start. We feel when food is as poor as this made by a professional chef and you could do much better yourself at home - what’s the point in eating out. It was a waste of our money. First time we tried the restaurant, was expecting a much better standard because the quality of all your garden items and gifts is excellent. Love you as a garden centre and am a regular but the restaurant (that day) was poor. Really hope this isn’t the usual standard.

I ate half as I was v hungry. It’s in one of the nicest settings for a garden centre. Steer clear of the cooked food. Shame.

I organised Afternoon Cream Tea for a group of 80+ which was simply, first class. Super staff, great food, loads of it, great value and good atmosphere If you need a place for a large group, this is ideal.Plus free parking. Thanks to the team who looked after us.

Had to queue for ages watching a young girl at the till working at a snail's place as though she was in a parallel universe. Perhaps it was her first day and she was nervous but she presented as extremely unfriendly and didn't smile once.Food is expensive and distinctly average. I had tea in a miniscule tea pot which was about one cup's worth.

Nicely laid out plant section and lots of signage. Well laid out shop with gardening things and other attractive cards, giftware, etc. etc. Lots of choice in the restaurant, very clean and tidy eating area, very good portions, lovely cakes and a good choice of drinks, hot or cold. Well worth a visit.

Waited 45 minutes for a roast in a bap! I've complained about the service here before but it seems the Management aren't listening! Food is good when you eventually get it. Make sure you all have the same meal or you will all be eating at different times.

So the queue was already building when we arrived at 11:40am for the Sunday carvery. That tells you something re how popular this place is. We didn’t do lunch but might next time. Just a pit stop for tea and cake which in itself was very nice. Good selection of slices, pastries and muffins.

My wife and I had a Christmas meal here a few years ago, liked it very much, so decided to give it another go this year. We were not disappointed. The food was lovely - delicious turkey and all the trimmings. The Chef and kitchen team had made efforts to provide a little extra interest with some tasty extras included. Some real care and attention, too, such as with the homemade gravy - much appreciated. We opted for two, not three, courses, both having the Roast Turkey then Christmas pudding with brandy sauce which we really enjoyed. Tea and mince pie to follow. Great tasting, great value, and throughout served patiently and with good humour by our excellent waitress, Louise. Thanks, Forest Lodge.

We last reviewed The Restaurant at Forest Lodge Garden Centre back in October 2017. This time we had the roasted tomato soup which came with a choice of white or granary roll and butter and croutons. £4.95.We both thought that the soup was excellent, hot and a generous size. The ambience is very acceptable in a dedicated and new part of the garden centre. Most reviews are favourable but there are rather too many that are critical; the average Trip Advisor score is only 3.5. We've had lunch here on many occasions and have always found it a good place to eat and value for money. So I'm rather surprised by the criticisms. What is VERY disappointing is that the management NEVER bother to respond to the criticisms - I went back to 2015 on TA reviews. That's very bad and gives a "couldn't care less" impression. Come on Forest Lodge - you can do better than that! To the benefit of your reputation!Toilets are modern and have always been clean. The important Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating is a 5, the top mark. Excellent. Inspection May 2019.

Went with my son and mother on Sunday for lunch and was so disappointed. My son ordered a cheese and tomato panini - not the most exciting thing however - it didn't even have any cheese in it to speak of. I complained and they did offer to make another one but why did they assume this was acceptable in the first place? Is it all about cost cutting? The elderly couple on the next table said they wished they had complained as well because their meal was awful but had decided not to eat there again. My son said he hadn't wanted to ruin my day but the food was inedible as it was just mushy bread with thin slices tomato. Why do these places assume they can treat people like this and deliver such a poor service? Seriously? They charge prices of a top restaurant and deliver substandard food.I wish we had gone a few miles further to Country Market

It is totally unacceptable to wait 40 minutes for a children’s meal to be served - the adults meals had been served and eaten before the kid’s meal came out. We had to ask TWO members of staff to check and both were rude and dismissive. Dreadful service and worse attitude!

We had a nice lunch here, good salmon Caesar salad and good panninis. We tried to find clean glasses for soft drinks we could only see cloudy dishwasher-marked or dirty ones. We were told they were being washed so asked for the Manager who said there was a problem with the dishwasher which was due to be fixed. She wiped a few glasses for us and gave them to us still got for our cold drinks! Not pleasant drinking from warm cloudy glasses, considering the quite high prices too. Disappointing - as was the Managed’s attitude.

We were visiting Bird World and took the walk through to the garden centre where we found this lovely restaurant. It is decorated in forest colours and is bright and airy sitting in the garden centre. The place was spotless and a really pleasant surprise.

Good atmosphere and generally lovely food, but for me, one great omission: whole milk. I rarely visit the restaurant as I cannot stand skimmed/semi-skimmed milk. Oh, and the ‘baguettes’ are soft, doughy bread, not crusty - beware!

First impressions very good; the restaurant is well laid out, attractive and has a varied offering and I found the staff very pleasant. Sadly, my lunch, a freshly prepared baguette, was unremarkable. The setting and cost had suggested something a little better. Grubby cutlery too.

I met with a friend at Notcutts for lunch today. He came down from London and hasn’t been before. Based on today’s experience he says it’s worth the journey and wants to go back again! The fish and chips were delicious. Chips crispy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside. Plus they offer HP sauce (his favourite) The quiche I ordered was very generous and served with a big fresh salad. We were advised at the till that there would be a 15 minute wait but it was much quicker and we really appreciated being told anyway. Fresh food/ hot dishes it’s to be expected. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff and restaurant standard food. We’ll be back soon.

First visit here for lunch whilst en route to Winkworth Arboretum. Left with very mixed feelings. It's in a nice location with attractive interior decor but... Completely agree with other reviews regarding staff. The girl on the till came to take our order about 3 seconds after we'd sat down; she didn't seem to have a clue how to use the tablet for orders and spent most of her time standing around doing nothing whilst the guy in the kitchen did all the work. As a result we ended up having to wait ages for our food. We ordered quiche + 2 salads and sausage roll + 2 salads. The food was ok but charging £12 for that is outrageous! And to make matters worse, they allow dogs inside and my lunch was ruined by 3 tiny, stinky dogs arriving at the table behind me. In my view, dogs should not be allowed inside where people are eating - it is so unhygienic. Leave them outside! There are better, cheaper cafes around so I suggest you seek them out.

My rump steak roast dinner was cooked to perfection, very efficient service! The menu is so vast, will have to come back to try it all.

We’ve had brunch here on a number of occasions and find that the service / standard of food you get really does swing between very good and quite poor, depending on just who is staffing the venue that day. Our most recent visit was further proof of this when we arrived through the car park entrance at the back for our pre-booked table. A friend tried to join us from the street entrance and found the front door locked, despite it being 10.30 in the morning. My wife’s ordered eggs florentine which was inedible. The spinach was so wet it turned the muffin into a sponge, leaving the plate waterlogged. Interesting to note that a lot of the prices seem to have recently increased too. A shame.
