Didn't stay there just met up with friends for lunch the prices were reasonable, the service and the food was not. We were charged for drinks we didn't have, the food was cold and the ice-cream must have been dished up 20 minutes before it arrived. It is a very nice venue just a pity they fell down on delivering a quality service.

The restaurant and bar are comfy and serving excellent food and good quality drinks. The seating area outside was a pleasant surprise as the weather turned out to be good. However the rooms are tired. Stayed here 5 years ago and they haven't improved since then. The grouting needs redoing, there needs to be better lighting in the rooms, and the pillows were paper thin. And check the batteries in the TV remote. The team members we encountered were all lovely and helpful, especially Sundeep (I think). Conveniently placed next to a National Trust site, perfect to stretch your legs.

Good hotel right at the end of the old A3 a minutes walk from the Devil's Punchbowl. Staff were friendly and helpful, bathroom in need of a refurbishment as grout was pretty knackered and everything was chipped but it was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Unlike most hotels just off the A3 there is no EV charging here which is the only reason why we wouldn't stay again as there are no other chargers nearby. Shame as we have family in Liphook and this would be a perfevf base otherwise.

I have to be honest here straight away. we didn't use the hotel, so I can not comment on that. 7 of us had a table booked for a Sunday lunch. It has to be one of the worst meals I have had in a very long time. We waited over an hour for our food to be brought to the table, the plates were cold, the food was luke warm at best, the chicken and beef were chewy. The person who had the beef specifically asked for NO horse radish, but it was on his food. The staff were great, but everything else was poor. They haven't even replied to the answers to an email they sent me asking me to rate our visit and meals.

Nice little gem that could be soooo much more, I remember coming here when the road was open it was jumping as a cafe but now it's a shadow of a place it once was, it's now a place where kids sit smoking pot in the evenings, real shame I used to come down on my motorbike and have an amazing breakfast with friends. I feel the cafe is just hanging on and not giving the meals you expect. Don't get me wrong I'm all up for a slice of cake and coffee but not much hot food is ever being served unless it sausage rolls or flapjacks. More stuff like fish and chips or hot food would be sooo much better For me it's and people outside smoking and the clueless staff that just say yes or no to everything and don't off a chat or opinion I had to tell one woman in the front of the line to wind her neck in as the poor guy serving was doing his best to keep up and all because she had 5 kids with her and they were ripping the shop to bits, 🙄 staff should have stepped in but they just sat back and did nothing at all

We had lunch here predominantly because the National Trust cafe opposite does not allow dogs. This Pub/restaurant however was very welcoming to us and our dogs, giving them each a water bowl and treats. On seeing the hotel/restaurant, I was not expecting much - it looks very run-down and could benefit from a significant refurbishment. However, once in the restaurant, we were welcomed, the food came promptly and was fresh and tasty and we could not really fault the place or the staff. My partner and I popped into The Devil's Punchbowl bar/restaurant one evening whilst driving around the area looking for somewhere to stop for a quick evening meal. The dining area in the back room, was beautifully appointed. The menu offered 4 or 5 choices of each course - nibbles rather than proper starters (which we didn't bother with as we wanted a main course and a pudding) and all mains/puddings freshly cooked and home-made. We both had the fish and chips - served with tartare sauce which was home-made and they gave us extra without having to ask, which was a nice touch - nothing worse than being given a thimbleful of sauce for a large plate of food so top marks for that! For dessert I had the most delicious panna cotta I've ever tasted - thick and creamy with lots of tangy fruit coulis. My partner had sticky toffee pudding which he was delighted with. Both really good size portions too! Another plus point was that they brought our coffees at the same time as the dessert, which is something I always ask for when I go out to eat, but so many places seem to forget this request. Service in general was absolutely faultless. We were served by a lovely young man called Ivan who couldn't do enough for us. He really seemed to love his job and treated every customer like an honoured guest, without being overbearing. We would go back to this place based on how welcome he made us feel, as well as the food being tasty and excellent value.

Food is very good - we went on a Sunday so there was the usual roasts on offer along with other dishes. We went for the plaice which was excellent and Fish & chips. The latter was let down by a) being served with a bit of paper under the fish which serves no purpose and b) peas in a little pot - just put them straight on the plate? Those silly things are just unnecessary - add to general waste and more washing up. The staff were superb and extremely polite and hard working. Our order got missed so we had a bit of a wait but I really don’t mind about things like that as it will happen in the best of places from time to time. Would recommend and visit again.

The menu was ideal as it ranged from chicken and bacon pie (perfect for Grandad), through to seabass fillets with crushed new potatoes (perfect for Mum) and high-quality burgers (perfect for teenagers). It’s a new menu, yet to appear on the restaurant website. Staff, led by Ivan, were friendly and helpful. Whilst the premises is in the ideal position for a stroll of the area, and the beer was fine, it was somewhat disappointing that there was no available food other than peanuts. As a group of five, we had planned a walk then beers in the garden and light snacks, fully appreciating that under current conditions, indoor eating would not be possible. So, after the initial drinks we simply moved elsewhere which was a shame. Better luck next time perhaps.

After a lovely walk around the Punchbowl we were ready for a nice lunch. Seeing that the National Trust cafe was very busy we went across to the hotel, and were rather surprised that the restaurant was almost empty at lunchtime in the middle of August. The staff were very friendly and we ordered our food and drinks. We thought that the rather long wait for our food augured well as we assumed it was being freshly prepared. But when it eventually arrived my friend's seafood linguini looked utterly revolting - an amorphous tomato-coloured mess that looked as though it had just been dropped on the floor and scooped up again. It was quite inedible. My own chicken platter, though huge, was not much better but I did manage to finish it.In fairness, they didn't charge for the linguini and were very apologetic. No wonder the restaurant was empty!!

No malgastes tu tiempo y dinero.

Really wish I hadn't let my husband book our weekend retreat away, he doesn't think to look at this sort of site to ensure good value for money, nice venue etcwell I can say it was none of the above. The hotel is tired and in desperate need of TLC, the staff were not attentive, the drinks in the bar were ridiculously overpriced - £7.00 for a shot of scotch! the breakfast was laughable - if you want an enjoyable memorable weekend I wouldn't book here.

We popped in on the off chance they had space late on Mothers Day for a carvery and didn't regret it! Lovely meat and vegetables all cooked perfectly which is a first for a carvery. The children had great big burgers that appeared to be handmade and cooked just right. Desert was also very good and again seemed home made. To top it off they presented me with a little Mother's Day treat of brownies which were amazing!

I am not in the habit of writing poor reviews but felt the experience we had here today warranted it. I understand that chefs / waiters / managers can have an off day but when you politely point out that something isn't right and have the manager argue with you before walking off when you are mid-sentence... the complaint is not addressed you feel the need to suggest that other people might want to avoid the place. First of all there isn't a wine list, which is unusual for a restaurant in 2017. When we asked to see it the waitress (who I must point out was lovely and the only redeeming feature of this place) said "I am it. We have Chardonnay, Pinot or Sauvignon Blanc". Hmmm not really very easy to make a decision when you like wine, know a bit about it and would like to know where in the world it comes from. Or at least have some choice. We chose the Chardonnay which is on sale in Tesco for a fiver. On to the food. I would suggest you go for anything other than the carvery. Items we ordered off the menu were all good (fishcake and pate starters, burger and chips). The carvery however was inedible. Two of us had the beef which was carved (I use that word loosely, more like hacked) into lumps which consisted mainly of fat. Ditto the lamb. The turkey was edible but not great. My roast potatoes where green in places which is a remarkable achievement. The Yorkshire puddings looked great, but sitting under a hot lamp meant they were all all crunchy and impossible to eat. At the end of the meal when asked by the manager if everything was okay we mentioned that the meat wasn't and he reply was "oh nobody has complained before"So when we explained some more and pointed out the issues he said "Okay I will taste it myself" and walked off. And then ignored us. Even when paying our bill at the end of the meal at reception I was ignored as he sat at the desk. No apology, no explanation, no offer of a free dessert or taking anything off the bill. Nothing. After the dessert (one of our eight of us decided to try a dessert) we weren't asked if we wanted any teas or coffees, in fact at no point during the meal did anybody ask us if we wanted anymore drinks. This is where restaurants make their money, upselling on the drinks, eight of us would have happily tucked into more drinks if offered but we weren't given the opportunity. We could have also done without the Dubstep soundtrack if I am honest. It's a real shame as this place is in an idea spot for people out for the day, enjoying the Devil's Punchbowl but sadly the opportunity for this to be a goldmine is wasted. Suffice to say we will not be returning and will not be recommending anybody visit.

This is the last time I eat somewhere without reading Tripadvisor reviews first! To owners & management of Devil's Punchbowl hotel & restaurant - you are situated in a brilliant location - alot of hotels would give anything to be where you are - sort things out! 1. Redecorate ladies' loo (ie up to date decor, replace doors), keep it really clean & ensure sanitary bins are dealt with under contract. 2. Visit pubs in the area (which have good Tripadvisor reviews) & sample their menus; this is what you are aiming for. 3. Find a really good chef & buy good quality produce. To members of the public - we had 2 less than satisfactory meals here today - very salty & strange tasting beef & ale pie with, mostly likely reheated vegetables - cauliflower tasted extremely odd & beef burger - cheap & cheerful, without the cheerful! Staff pleasant & did their best to rectify the situation, but until the entire place has some money thrown at it, I fear things will not change.

I stayed here for one night only and had evening meal and breakfast.Let's start with the room first, reasonably clean and tidy need to be refurbished. The mattresses well they really need to get new ones, I think these have been here since the war. However apart from this it was a spacious room with the facilities that you would expect. The bathroom again need updating but it was clean and fully working, I do think the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. Now food. Well I asked for a Moroccan salad with chicken what I got was lettuce cucumber and tomato with lots of French dressing on top the chicken was tasty. It was ok but was expecting something Abbit better. Breakfast was cereal and a English breakfast no menu to choose from they just asked what you wanted.Staff were friendly but would not say welcoming

We popped in here for lunch on New Years Eve. Sat in the bar. The food - 2 paninis and a salad took 40 minutes to be served. The chicken & bacon salad was well presented, looked appetising, new potatoes had an odd taste but the rest of the salad was ok. The ham & cheese paninis were awful. Very, very fatty ham, cheese not melted, panini roll burnt and very hard.Very disappointed.

Stopped here after a walk round the punchbowl it was nearly 4pm so we stopped for a carvery to be told we only had 10 mins to get it so we ended up eating our carvery before our starter. We also didn't get any drinks until half way through our food. The carvery was average the potatoes were not great, the best bit was the meat and stuffing. We also ordered pate which came with a soggy bit of bread ....overall disappointing and expensive for what it is.

We called in here after our long walk down the Punchbowl & were pleasantly surprised by the varied menu. It was a pleasure to be waiter-served & our food, though taking a while to come (we were a large group) was tasty & hot. The American teens in our group made the mistake of thinking they were back home & ordered child portions (we tried to tell them!) which were not filling enough. The adult ones were more than fine

We went in on a sunny Sunday at 2.45 seeing the board outside saying sandwiches. At the bar we were told there were no sandwiches and there was only the Sunday menu. We ordered four starters 2 fish cakes and 2 x pâté plus two J20s and a lemonade and a coke (these 4 drinks cost £8 !). A while later we were told the Pâté was not available so we cancelled all the food. Seconds later the next table were told that their choice was not available even though they had asked about availability prior to ordering. The manager came over and asked about our food and we said we'd cancelled all the food and he just smiled and said no problem and walked off. The crowning glory was the couple on an adjacent table who sat their dog (dressed in a coat and scarf) on the chair between them and fed it from their plates letting it eat off the same fork they were using. It was almost like a comedy sketch. The hotel hygiene surely comes into question - I certainly would not knowingly like to sit on the chair previously used by the dog not want to use their cutlery, however well washed. My advice avoid eating here, do what we did and turn left out of the hotel and walk some 60 yards and crossover to Pickwick's were you can sit in a clean environment and enjoy fresh made fare which is made to order with a smile

We’ve had brunch here on a number of occasions and find that the service / standard of food you get really does swing between very good and quite poor, depending on just who is staffing the venue that day. Our most recent visit was further proof of this when we arrived through the car park entrance at the back for our pre-booked table. A friend tried to join us from the street entrance and found the front door locked, despite it being 10.30 in the morning. My wife’s ordered eggs florentine which was inedible. The spinach was so wet it turned the muffin into a sponge, leaving the plate waterlogged. Interesting to note that a lot of the prices seem to have recently increased too. A shame.

I met with a friend at Notcutts for lunch today. He came down from London and hasn’t been before. Based on today’s experience he says it’s worth the journey and wants to go back again! The fish and chips were delicious. Chips crispy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside. Plus they offer HP sauce (his favourite) The quiche I ordered was very generous and served with a big fresh salad. We were advised at the till that there would be a 15 minute wait but it was much quicker and we really appreciated being told anyway. Fresh food/ hot dishes it’s to be expected. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff and restaurant standard food. We’ll be back soon.

First visit here for lunch whilst en route to Winkworth Arboretum. Left with very mixed feelings. It's in a nice location with attractive interior decor but... Completely agree with other reviews regarding staff. The girl on the till came to take our order about 3 seconds after we'd sat down; she didn't seem to have a clue how to use the tablet for orders and spent most of her time standing around doing nothing whilst the guy in the kitchen did all the work. As a result we ended up having to wait ages for our food. We ordered quiche + 2 salads and sausage roll + 2 salads. The food was ok but charging £12 for that is outrageous! And to make matters worse, they allow dogs inside and my lunch was ruined by 3 tiny, stinky dogs arriving at the table behind me. In my view, dogs should not be allowed inside where people are eating - it is so unhygienic. Leave them outside! There are better, cheaper cafes around so I suggest you seek them out.
