The service was not existent. The team behind the counter were more interested in their own conversation. The cake was dry, tables were sticky and dirty

We love visiting this garden centre which is now Capital Gardens and we are always very welcomed. Its very dog friendly, our dog Hector is very spoilt after his walk and it has a lovely seating area for dogs with fresh water. The food is lovely, we benefitted from buy one get one free breakfast sandwhiche's which were very tasty. They have created a very relaxing space, we would really recommend.

Clearly a serial moaner. I was behind him in the queue when he clearly ordered one of both soups. I saw the chef bring two out and then take one back so not sure how he "tasted" the cheese one. I felt sorry for the girl he shouted out. I had a toastie and chips which was lovely. The restaurant was around half full with only two staff so I was impressed as the speed of service was pretty quick. I will definitely return and will be sure to tell my friends. There was a nice selection of cakes too. I also got given nice booklet of offers for January. So will be using them !

We came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It had been recommended by my father so I expected to have a pleasant lunch. We arrived at three o'clock expecting to be able to sit down and enjoy a nice sandwich, to be told that the kitchen had just closed, with no prior warning on a menu or any notice. A sign advertising their chips read "every day any time", which quite clearly turned out to be false. We did however enjoy a reasonably priced and rather nice hot chocolate and cappuccino. I just wished their was a prior notice explaining the closure of the kitchen at 3, as we therefore had to go without lunch.

We dropped our car off for wash and polish and thought we’d get a quick drink whilst we waited. And by quick I mean choose 2 cans of pop and 1 bottle of water from the fridge then wait 20 minutes to pay! It seems customer service, efficiency and organisation are not on this restaurants ( and I use this term loosely) customer charter. We picked our drinks then joined the queue of 1 and proceeded to grow old. We heard the person in front make three menu choices to be told (at 1:30 in the afternoon!) they had no baked potatoes and coronation chicken left and the staff member didn’t know what the soup of the day was, she’d go and check, Mrs Overall style. The place is obviously going through bad times but hope it pulls its finger out before it loses too many previously loyal customers, Rosebournes isn’t that far away when it opens! On the way out we noticed a sign saying due to technical problems there was no hot food available today! Tell the staff!!!!!!!

We visited this garden centre for a ‘quick stop’ for coffee and cake as part of a Mother’s Day treat. We waited over 20 minutes in the queue whilst one poor waitress struggled to take orders, make all the hot drinks and take payment, so slow and hugely inefficient. Whilst I waited my wife sat at a free table with our two disabled sons, they’re profoundly autistic and don’t understand the concept of waiting, however, my wife kept them occupied whilst they waited for their cake, they did well, but we were nervous that they’d get very upset at any moment. To make life even more stressful, after 15 minutes of sitting down, but before we’d even been served, an exceptionally rude waitress came marching over and said “this table is reserved, you have to move” not “sorry we haven’t left a reserved sign on this table but these people did actually book this table, would you be kind enough to move” my wife then had to try to move all of our coats, whilst holding onto both boys, whilst she hurried us along, not offering to help. We then got turfed into two small sofas that didn’t haven enough space for all of us, so had to squash in, which wasn’t great. The boys need to eat at a table, which wasn’t possible in this small space without them sitting on the floor and eating from the coffee table. Cake went everywhere, it wasn’t fun. The drinks were nice, but we felt like we’d waited for the coffee beans to grow. Four drinks, two scones (no condiments) and two pieces of cake came to £24! Sadly we wouldn’t be back, they couldn’t handle the amount of customers and were rude, unprofessional and lacked empathy for disabled customers’ needs.

We decided to have lunch in the restaurant yesterday after wandering around the garden centre. The waitress told my husband there was only one jacket potato left and it was quite small but still ended up charging us the full amount for the meal. I had the special cheese and leek tarte with veg and it was awful. The veg were just boiled and put on the plate, no seasoning. The tarte was pale and unappetising, there was nothing fresh looking about it at all. They are clearly baked from frozen but what looked like in a too low oven temperature so there was no browning. I ate about half my lunch and left the rest which at anyone’s calculation is an expensive lunch! We spent £25 for lunch for two adults and a meal deal for a child which was expensive considering how shockingly bad the food was. I suggest they just stick to tea and cake in the future as they can’t go that wrong with it, or can they?!!

Have often had a drink in there, and had a sandwich lunch on occasion. However my husband and I popped in for lunch and to be honest were disappointed. I had macaroni cheese with salad and garlic bread (almost £9) and it was almost like a ready made cheese sauce with some pasta in it, the garlic bread seemed to be toast with garlic butter spread on it. My husband had scampi and chips and although it looked nice he said it tasted just okay (over £9). There is no atmosphere in the restaurant and has a grubby overall feel. Could be improved by adding some colourful tablecloths. There seemed to be only one lady taking orders and dispensing drinks cake etc so there was a bit of a wait to order.

My friend and I used to love going for lunch at this garden centre but after the last few visits and especially todays visit we will not be going again! We had to wait nearly 30 minutes before the main course arrived which we couldn't see why as the place was practically empty! I had a voucer which covered a main course and a dessert only to find they only had one option for a dessert only then again to be told during our meal that they only had one portion of the dessert so one of us would have to have a cake instead! After we had finished the main course we waited then another 25 minutes and the dessert and cake still hadn't arrived! So, I went and asked when it could be coming and the assistant said 'well have you told us you were ready for your dessert'!! Seriously is this something one should have to go back to the counter and ask for??? One would have thought they would have come and taken our finished plates away then they would have known we were ready for the dessert surely? The place was untidy tables weren't cleared and the staff were very unhelpful. It's not a cheap place to eat now either although the main meal was ok today but if like in the past we ordered a Shepherds Pie which you get it in one of those silly little ramekin dishes which isn't enough to feed a child never mind an adult and the mixture of seasonal veg was an eggcup size of just peas! Then there's the toilets! Oh my goodness they are disgusting, filthy, smelly, cobwebs and just revolting!! Very very very dissapointed today and for something costing near on £30 just for 2 people one would expect a lot better. We couldn't get over the fact driving down the road still that WE should have gone and asked for the dessert... Really... It's a shame as the plant area is lovely shame the inside isn't the same too.

I had lunch here while browsing the garden centre.Restaurant - 5*:Served by a very friendly woman and the chef who had a good sense of humour. We were disappointed to learn that burgers were not on the menu when we visited, despite it being advertised on the banner in the car park. We ordered fish and chips and gammon, with vanilla milkshakes. The vanilla milkshakes were delicious (though not thick at all), but too small and there was no option for banana. The staff member making them (I think his name was Callum) could have smiled more, and when he saw that we had finished with our plates, he walked past our table instead of taking them. The fish and chips were delicious (though the chips were not very well seasoned) and the fish was of an excellent quality. I wish salt and pepper was given on the outside tables, and the table number was dirty. The gammon was apparently good. Pretty good value overall. Finished with some good quality ice creams.Garden centre - 4*:Disappointed with the reduced price sections this visit as there was not many vegetables. Some good discounts, though. Poor selection of fungus killers suitable for use with vegetables. Lady on till seemed just a tiny bit disinterested. The toilets are filthy and dated. Some dirt in store, uneven pavement makes it difficult to push trolley. Be very careful about buying reduced price plants, as a couple of them looked diseased to me. Good loyalty scheme.Overall, I will return.

I visited the garden centre, but not the restaurant. There was a good selection of plants, generally well cared for but with a few exceptions. The reduced price sections are excellent, plants start at just 15p! Sign up to the garden club and get good discounts. I thought a couple of the plants were a little bit overpriced.I did see a cat during my visit and I also saw just one sign warning that they were feral although this was partially covered by a plant, so not very useful. The seed aisles were not particularly well stocked. Good pest control aisle. Everything seemed very dirty, though. Cobwebs were everywhere. Tinned food should really be stored on shelves, not directly on the concrete floor. The toilets needed urgent modernisation and a deep clean could be useful. Paper towels were not provided to the sinks which have hand operated taps.Minimal queuing at the till. We were served by a polite and friendly man although he was quiet and didn't smile much. I don't see the point in having a fridge by the till when it is running at 20+ degrees and only housing low risk food - it's a waste of electricity.

I visited while browsing the garden centre. We browsed the menu; the selection of food seemed impressive although we were disappointed with the choice of milkshake flavours (3 in total). The menu was reasonably priced and the garden centre card acts as a loyalty scheme.A staff member came over and asked if we needed anything, to which we responded by giving our order, she then said (before we'd finished) that she'd be right back as she needed to serve another customer. What's the point in offering assistance which you're not prepared to give? When we eventually got served the woman was friendly and helpful. There was a wait for drinks as I believe that they are made there and then. We were told to take a seat as the drinks will be brought over.I went to wash my hands. The toilets were quite dirty and required a refurbishment. When I got back, I noticed that the kitchen area could have been cleaner and there was food debris on a couple of tables where they hadn't been wiped down properly. Otherwise, the atmosphere was acceptable. The drinks were brought over after a few minutes, in addition to our salted caramel crispy square. In my opinion, the salted caramel crispy square was rich in flavour and rather sickly; it was also very soft and a bit melted because it was an excessively hot day.The strawberry milkshake was fine although I would consider my mixed berry 'smoothie' more of a juice as it wasn't a smoothie texture.I look forward to the managers response.

We stopped here for a mid-journey coffee. Good, friendly service, nice atmosphere, comfortable seating, in a bright, airy setting. Then a loud "bang" and glass everywhere! A high-up window had shattered.Big respect to the staff: they moved all guests away from the affected area, asking them to leave their drinks and meals on the tables, (replaced for free of course), and sit elsewhere in the café. The area was cordoned off. The staff were calm, helpful, in control, friendly. Well done. And the cause of the drama? A uniquely-wayward golf ball from a nearby course!Don't be put off by this tale. No-one was injured. Any business, large or small, experiences difficulties. It's how they respond that matters, and the staff at the Wyevale are a credit to their company and I hope they got thanked properly. Don't let this put you off going: aparrantly it was the first time it's happened - and the coffees were perfect! The diners around us seemed satisfied too. We'll return.

Took my family for breakfast at the restaurant here before heading off back home to Manchester, as we'd heard great things about the food and service since being taken over by a new manager and staff. We weren't disappointed, as the food was great and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend this restaurant as a great place to visit. Especially the orange and poppy seed scones!

We had a coupon to use & chose gammon & chips plus beef in red wine stew with a parsley dumpling [2 mains for just £12]. We added a tea & coffee but could have had wine or beer. The cafe was clean & atmosphere bright & airy - nice place for a good value meal & we look forward to trying other Wyevales when out for a drive.

I have been coming here for years and each time I come it just gets worse. I ordered 2 cappuccino I ended up with a latte with sprinkles. We sat down and above my head was a sticky fly trap paper with dead flys all over it. I did mention this to the waitress and said she would not remove as dead flys might fall in my breakfast but offered us another table. The only thing that is positive is that the staff are finally looking tidy In their uniform. Better than messy hair and cardigans. The cafe use to be so busy, such a shame it keeps gong down hill.

We've been coming here for years so have seen the good and the bad times. Right now, it's been very good in our opinion for some time, but note we have only experienced the breakfast predominantly at the weekends as we work midweek. The current staff are excellent including the cheerful chef. There have been some really miserable female staff in the last year, but they appear to have gone. Despite the changes to the breakfast menu & with it an increased cost, breakfast is still very good. Fresh, well cooked, non greasy and hot. Not keen on fried bread, but they will change to toast. We tried to swap black pudding to another item when the new menu came out and were told no as it would mess up the pricing structure. Not sure, apart from the fried bread, if that's now changed. We miss the chunky granary bread that they served for a while, that was a great touch, but it's reasonably standard sliced currently. It's not the most modern garden centre cafe/restaurant and there are areas that are tired and would benefit from improvements ie the chairs have seen better days, but overall we are happy to continue visiting.

Not the best place in the world, but really warm in the freezing January weather and the food quality was goodThe service did feel like I had walked into a staff training session - all rather unfocussed but we finally got what we wantedThe atmosphere isnt great - but this is the first time I have eaten in a Garden Centre - but with some tidying and a good eye the ambiance would be much enhanced

A family outing to have breakfast and meet Father Christmas. Some of us had the cooked breakfast and some had the pastry and hot drink. Both were really good and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. There was plenty for the children to do, from colouring in to decorating a cookie before the man of the moment came to give the presents out Will be booking up to go this Christmas again. Well done.

Very poor service from the staff who were very unhelpful,, I had a scone that was not fresh as sold to me, When I opened my cream to spread on the scone it was as hard as a rock!! So I ask the Lady at the till if she would swap it for another one ( she said to my surprise ) Yes I can swap it but there all the same !!!!! Sorry but clotted cream is spreadable right !!! So if the others are the same why not lower the temperature in the fridge !!! I guess if you pay peanuts you monkeys !!!! There was lots of OAPs eating in there, I guess it there cliental, I won't ever go back and would not recommend to anyone !!!

This is the second year in a row I have been here for breakfast with Santa and it was absolutely superb! This year the whole of my husbands family came, the kids loved it and so did we. Each child got a nice breakfast, a bag of gold coins and some colouring at the start. This was followed up by a Christmas cookie to decorate each topped of by sitting with Father Christmas and getting a gift. The price for this is fantastic you absolutely get your money's worth - if not more. The staff were all lovely and the food is always delicious. I would thoroughly recommend this experience and 100% will be doing it again next year

like a previous reviewer I had experienced a lack of helpfulness from the restaurant staff, however this has changed and the last few times we visited we had a lovely time, the staff were extremely helpful, twice I was accompanied by either my elderly father or my grandchildren, which can be quite stressful, but the staff were lovely. The restaurant is always clean and in the summer it was nice to sit outside, we even had a visit from the falcon next door!

I believe the Chef has recently left and when visiting this week the food was definitely not up to their usual standard, and the hot meals were served on cold plates. The bread and butter pudding seemed as if it had been heated in a microwave as it was very elastic in texture. Hopefully it will get back to the standard they achieved in the past.

Haven't been to this garden centre for a while as it never had what we wanted and the restaurant was very poor in comparison to other garden centres. We were recommended to go again to meet up with relatives for lunch. We very pleasantly surprised by the changes in the plant area, everything looked good, fresh and well watered. We chose a plant to put on our Daughter's grave this afternoon. The restaurant was lovely and it was good to sit outside and watch one of the falcons flying around the area. Displays given every afternoon.. We chose 2 salads and 2 main meals which were lovely, the staff were very friendly. There were lots of people there and the afternoon teas looked very good. We were able to purchase extra teas and coffees for a pound. We will be back.

Went for a quick coffee and cake after visiting the aquatic store.Staff seemed disorganised. The carrot cake I ordered was stale. Filter coffee was ordered. The jug was almost empty and one of us got the dregs. The water reservoir was re-filled and fresh coffee put in the machine. It brewed but they forgot we still had only had one cup.Not very busy in mid-afternoon on a sunny day. I wouldn't be attracted to return and for almost £10 had expected better.

Sunday breakfast was 'okay' but nothing startling, although the carrot cake enjoyed by one of our party was extremely good; just not sure whether or not it was baked on site.

Been several times with my children (12 and 15). Always assured of a good coffee, a range of herbal teas and lovely, giant scones. Wifi is free. Nice way to spend an hour in the school holidays and not often filled with Mums and prams, usually older people and small groups of ladies who lunch. Sitting out in the garden is very pleasant in the summer. As another reviewer has said, this is the WYEVALE garden centre. Make sure you get a loyalty card, as they often send out offers for cheap lunches. Potter around in the garden centre later.

Having just move recently, we decided to visit the local garden centre, they have a wonderful selection of plants on offer. But if you want to stop for a bite to eat, then make sure your not in a hurry.

My wife and I popped in for a lunchtime snack on route to our Daughters. We wish we hadn't!We had a ploughmans and a Toastie, neither was memorable. The salad items were just a few pieces of salad which looked like they'd been chucked on the plate. However, the main problem was a failure to clear tables, despite it not being busy the staff were not able to keep tables clean and clear, and service at the counter was slow. Also, behind the counter was untidy with boxes and other items in view when perhaps they should have been elsewhere in a store cupboard.

My husband and I popped in here today for lunch with our grandson after being at the Vyne, where we didn't think their service or choice and prices in their cafe were very good. I ordered Fish and mushy peas, I don't eat chips , I was offered mash potatoes but I really didn't want any potatoes. I was still charged the price of Fish, chips and mushy peas. We ate in Oliver's in Basing the other day and they took off £1.50 as I didn't want the chips. Why should you not have a choice and a reduction if you don't want chips??The fish was very large and the peas a small portion but quite enough for me a senior citizen!!

We've been here several times, most recently in March. We both had a slice of cake and coffee as an afternoon treat. This is our usual snack here! We usually have coffee cake or carrot cake and it's always a generously sized slice. The staff are very nice and we try to come at least once a month. It can get extremely busy here so be prepared to be patient, the snack at the end is worth it :) .

The food, cakes and coffee here are lovely, it's indicative of the service that we so very rarely chose to even get a cup of coffee here. It should NEVER take more than 10 minutes to get to the front of the queue when you're only the 3rd people in it. Today instead of the incredibly vacant yoof of today who even Burger King won't employ we have the WI who whilst lovely can't multitask, help each other or move faster than a snails pace. I won't use here again until the next time I have my car valeted inside and out as it takes the same time for that to happen as it does to get a cup of coffee

I visited the cafe recently but being in crutches I did wonder how I was going to cope with self service particularly as other reviews have questioned the service here. Well I was very pleasantly surprised. As soon as the manager saw me she showed me to a table then took my order without me having to stand and queue. When she cane back to check if I was ok i asked her what I could smell cooling and she said scones were just about to come out of the oven. Wow they were huge and amazing! This was service at its best. The staff work very hard and are very busy but they do a great job. Couldn't have asked for more. And those scones will get me going back I can assure you! Give it a try. Ignore other reviews about soup being too hot!!! Isn't soup supposed to be hot!

I recently visited the restaurant at the garden centre with my daughter. We both had a light lunch - I had scampi which was lovely and my daughter had half a jacket potato as part of a kids meal deal. The place was very bright and inviting and had a nice outside space where we could have eaten had the weather been better. They were clearly very busy but the food was fantastic for the money and the girls serving where very helpful. They even had a guy walking around with an Eagle Owl inviting the kids to come and see it close up and learn about them.Having only popped in as I was in the garden center I will go back just for a nice afternoon meal with my family in the future.

Was in the middle of eating my lunch when I needed a drink of water. Went up to get a water came back to find my lunch had been taken away. Even though my coat and bag was on the back of the chair to show that there was still someone sat there. I asked the lad have you just taken my food and he said yes sorry then walked off. Bar was busy but only 2 people working behind it. So bit of a que.

delivery driver couldn't find my house so he parked nearby and I had to walk, which is mostly fine, but subway screwed up my order too, what was supposed to be one of the custom meatball marinara subs was just the extras I ordered and not the actual samwitch filling, hoping I get a refund but don't know how to report it and ask for one
