Maidenhead Inn in Basingstoke and Deane

Was in the middle of eating my lunch when I needed a drink of water. Went up to get a water came back to find my lunch had been taken away. Even though my coat and bag was on the back of the chair to show that there was still someone sat there. I asked the lad have you just taken my food and he said yes sorry then walked off. Bar was busy but only 2 people working behind it. So bit of a que.

Small and busy spoons. Long wait for food on our visit and the staff was a bit rude when i asked about the wait. Go to the angle in festival place.

Food was hot, don't always get that in a spoons, decent enough

Had the big breakfast the sausages were over cooked and hard and the other food was not very hot

Bad day. Staff shortages meant that the tables were left with used dirty plates after other diners had left. Fare to say that this in my view was a one off and the tables were cleared quickly after the lunch rush had calmed.

Beer was nice and cold food was nice and warm. Atmosphere was good service was decent.

Toilets and carpets were so filthy I decided to have coffee only to spend half an hour there till the shops’ opening hour. The coffee £1.04–the 4 p was puzzling—but remarkably cheap. I was given an empty cup and directed to a coffee machine. The machine produced something so disgusting I could not touch it after the first sip. The only good thing was the young barmen who carefully checked the cups before handing it to me—the third cup he checked was qualified as clean!

Not very many places in England I like to eat out sorry

My personal favourite. I like to have a regular coffee and breakfast there.

It's wetherspoons don't matter where you go for one in the UK , they are all the same Same food ,same real ale beer choice ,they need to find a few more real ales as there is plenty on the market,

I never leave bad reviews as I also work for hospitality and know how hard it is and things can go wrong. However this experience was not it. After ordering food, the waitress came down and asked us who's it is - to that we didn't know as two people had ordered it on 2 different numbers ( we were spread across 3 tables) We were about to say just put it down on a table and she went 'I'll just put it here should i' in a mood. Next she went back to the bar and started talking to her colleague, blatantly about us and how we couldnt decide who's it was, these things happen and to be honest if it had a table number it should go to that table. Next my partner ordered a pint of strawberry and lime koppersburg which was ordered at 16.49 and he had to go to the bar, which was a few feet away up some stairs and asked the same girl where his pint was 20 minutes later at 17:09. To which she replied 'on the end of the bar' as she was putting glasses away. She knew it was there and just left it for 20 minutes and didnt drop it to us. A male server on shift was apologetic at the time. I am a server, all of us sat round the table are servers/managers and this is not how you interact with paying customers; be it if you are in a bad mood or not, it should not reflect In your mannerisms towards another person, especially a guest in your establishment. We visited Mon 29th July around 5pm, the waitress has light hair and glasses. The food was average but the whole experience was really ruined for us.

I've recently been visiting this Spoons in the morning for a Vegan breakfast and coffee. It's very good value for money (less than £5 including the free refill hot drinks) and consists of 2 sausages, 1 tomato, 2 mushrooms, 2 hash browns, baked beans, 1 slice of toast and margarine. You can help yourself to condiments such as salt, pepper and HP sauce. A glass of cold water with ice and a slice is free. Serve yourself free refill hot drinks are also available at two machines. Oat milk sachets are now available. The quality and presentation of the breakfast is usually good. It would be nicer if the food arrived on a hotter plate so the food arrives at the table at a higher temperature. Recently there was no vegan spread available for the toast. The staff are friendly and efficient but they don't usually check if everything is okay with your meal. So if there is an issue you would have to approach staff behind the bar. I've been visiting this Spoons on and off for about 12 years. It has a more cosier feel to it than The Angel Wetherspoons in Basingstoke. In my opinion, the interior decor of this place is well overdue for a freshen up it and looks tired and worn. It's been like this since I started going there. I don't recall ever having an issue with the ladies toilets. There is always toilet paper and soap and a working hand dryer. Update July 2024: Small breakfasts including the Vegan breakfast is just £2.25!!!

Comfortable spacious place with terrace

A medium sized branch situated in the old town part of Basingstoke. About a 10 Minute walk from the train station. The pub was not overly busy when I arrived. However, the beer garden area was. This is another branch that offers the good value 'Top Plates, Low Rates' deals. Ordered an All Day Brunch and pint of Surrey Hills Nirvana IPA. Total cost, a reasonable £6.44. One gripe is not all Ales were listed on the App. The beer I originally chose had run out, with the replacement not listed. A member of staff came over to say what other beers were on. Drink arrived after about seven minutes. Food in around 10 minutes. Food was hot and reasonably well presented compared to other Brunches I have had in other Wetherspoons branches. Although less busy and popular that the nearby 'The Angel' Wetherspoons in Festival Place, this branch offers generally better value for money. Traditional English Breakfast can be had for £3.14 before Midday! Worth the short walk to the 'Top of the' old town.

Wetherspoons, you get what you pay for. Food priced well for what it is. Never had a bad meal. As with most, you have your standard batch of Wetherspoons customer sat watching the world go by for most of the day, they do no harm. Standard boozer.

This is one of the most disgusting places I’ve ever seen in the UK! Food marks on the walls, burnt/ microwaved food! Young-incompetent and rude staff! An absolute joke! I’d rather throw my money down the drain than to spend it there!

I dropped in for lunch on a weekday. It was not especially busy and I placed my order and sat in the downstairs dining area. The fish was fairly good and the entire experience lived up to expectations. Toilets are well maintained and clean.

It was the worst food I have ever eaten in a pub. The food smelled very bad. The salad was rotten and expired, the burger was served very badly.

This is a fairly compact, more modern Wetherspoon on split levels, one of two in the town centre. I like to nip in when I'm visiting family, I can't vouch for the food as I've never eaten here but the ale range is usually pretty good, the staff are friendly and genial- during the day you can always find somewhere to sit. One of those Wetherspoons that serves its purpose well.

Saturday lunchtime is never a good time to have lunch but The Maidenhead Inn surpassed my expectations. The food was ordered and served within 15 mins with smiling staff, even though they were very busy. The food was hot and as expected. Thank you ! My one gripe is that the toilets were upstairs and could have done with a good clean :-(

Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere

The basement was unkempt. Dirty tables, not cleaned up. There are better wetherspoons I have been to. Even the other one in Basingstoke Mall is better. The food arrived quick but tasted bad. The child pizza (kid meal) was burnt at the edges. Will not be going back for food, perhaps only for drinks.

I ate here on the 26/05 and was refused a refund for finding an actual twig in my wrap, despite the man behind the bar confirming it was a twig. My friend also had a hair in their wrap and also found a SNAIL SHELL in her halloumi salad. I will never eat here again I can’t believe I was refused a refund

I asked for the mix grill, I didn't want lamb, they say that they cannot put another instead 🙄🙄... Well can you not put lamb in my plate, please?? an odyssey to make this happen.... The waiter fed up to live.... 0 simphaty and the woman that brings me plate, almost throw in the table, 0 customer support... 4 chips in the plate and very poorly... But a lot of peas🤮🤮.... The meats was cooked before yesterday. So bad.. The only good the free coffee, and plenty space.. But you know now why🤗

It's a 'Spoons', not The Ritz !

The breakfasts aren’t half bad considering they are cheap as hell.

Weatherspoon’s are great it’s just a shame, people who have no morals are decorum use them. We all know they are cheap as chips, so why do people come in and drink own drinks, buy mixers and add the sports from the rucksack not the first time.

Good all-around food at really good prices. Normally, drinks are included as well, so you know you're getting all you need when ordering. I have not had a bad meal from here, and I eat here a lot with my partner. Also, I come here with my older kids and my grandkids.

Tables were dirty , asked staff to clean the table , told too busy . 6 chips do not constitute a portion complaint was met with a shrug .

Not very busy on New Year’s Day. Bar staff clearly bored and having inane conversations with each other. Funniest moment was when the kitchen staff was speaking very loudly on the bar staff’s receiver asking what the vegan burger was. Doesn’t fill you with confidence! It’s clean enough in here but somehow feels grubby. Perhaps it’s the 1970s coloured decor.

As always, upon entrance barman Ian is always pleased to see you and serve you always with a smile and a chat. This guy clearly has a flair with customers. A nice atmosphere every time i go in this establishment and the locals are very friendly. Never a drama to get served, tables always available and clean, food always good. As far as im concerned this is the best Wetherspoons 100% TOP NOTCH BARMAN ...... IAN .

The manager was a strange individual. I catch up with my mate twice a year. We are nearly 40. He deemed us too drunk and told security to remove us. Very weird. We asked for an explanation and his name. Both which he declined. Would love to hear from higher regional management on the matter

OK.. very busy so staff did their best and were friendly. Food not great, chips over done and not very warm

An OK branch of Spoons, however much of the pizza had already run out at 13:00 on a weekday so I had to retreat to the Angel for my lunch. Only consumed a half pint to tick it off, then walked over the way.

Standard spoons experience - decent value neal out. Have eaten here before and that was fine but in this occasion we were given dirty cutlery which was annoying because we then had to queue for a while to ask for new cutlery which then made our food go cold. I had the big cheese Christmas chicken burger and whilst it was nice I don't think it was much different to a normal chicken burger - you just get 2 slices of brie,2 absolutely tiny halloumi fries and then a blue cheese sauce which was okay however the portion of chips was tight but I guess this does vary time to time. Value wise though probably not worth it but still it was okay! The person I went with had the beef christmas burger and that looked better value in the sense that you get the above but 2 beef burgers in there. Nice atmosphere inside though and have been before few times for food so would come again :)

Main selling point here is the price. Tea/coffee at £1.05 with free refills! But because of that it feels like a glorified soup kitchen!

Worst Wetherspoon we've been in. Will not return. Saturday lunchtime out of stock on do much, nearly gave them their drinks back and left. Bar staff/ servers friendly and competent, managers didn't seem to care.

It's a Wetherspoons. Nothing more to say. Sometimes the food arrives hot and sometimes not. Reasonably priced and staff very pleasant. Ideal as a starter pub on a night out on the beer.

Staff absolutely useless. Ordered food that came with a drink he wanted to charge extra for the drink charged me but didn’t order the food when I check they wanted to charge me extra. Also had to wait for someone to serve they were too busy talking to friends

It was extremely dirty and very very tired looking inside. The toilets were filthy, and felt like needing a good scrub after using the bathroom. They were clearly understaffed as the wait at the bar seemed like a lifetime... In the whole, one of the tackiest, dirty pubs I've visited. Avoid going there at all costs unless you have very low hygiene and standards

Decent beer, typical spoons. I would sit downstairs for a slightly quieter drink. The staff are always helpful but there's not really a big enough outside area and in summer the tables are quickly full.

Wonderful little spoons over three levels going back to a beer garden near the car park. The place was fairly busy when I was there and there didn't seem to be that many staff as they were constantly running around clearing, cleaning and serving, only to start all over again. They were pretty relaxed and cheerful- again with the smiling. Unfortunately they were out of Guinness, but the Gwynt Y Ddraig Black Dragon was an excellent replacement.

Firstly just to say, all the reviews left here seeking this place to be a top class eatery, its NOT, its a Wetherspoons, if your expecting food from The ritz, then go to the Ritz. These places are amazing value for money, thats why these people went there whom left negative reviews. Ive NEVER had a bad pint or food in ANY of these establishments. This particular Wetherspoons in the top of town in Basingstoke is always a pleasure to visit, always relaxed, attentive staff and a quick and polite service. I must add Ian in the bar is the ultimate polite and courteous bar man, his patience and manorism is second to none, i would pay this guy to give other bar staff from other pubs a lesson on just plain and simple being polite. Wetherspoons, you should look out for this employee, he will go far, he is the best you will find, think yourself very lucky you,ve got him.

Located just away from town center. On multiple levels. Menu like evey Wetherspoons and it is good. Team and helpful and pleasant.

Don't get me wrong, I love wetherspoons. But this branch not so much. The food wasn't as good as other branches but the service and atmosphere was great

Probably the most run down spoons I've been in. The toilets were in a shocking state . One was full of faeces and the other was completely flooded. I heard the bar being informed of this and I went in to toilet 20 minutes later and nothing had been done to rectify the bad situation. Health and safety nightmare. An elderly or someone not steady on their feet could have had a serious accident. A warning sign and locking the flooded cubicle to prevent people entering should have been an immediate action. I won't be going here again.

Ordered on the app, even though it was quiet, we waited a long time for the drinks, would have been quicker to go to the bar and order. It’s in need of a deep clean, feels very dirty and I never saw a table wiped in the whole time we were there

Came down on monday evening..Very rude staff...i dont know her name but she was rude, loud no customer service and always roll her eyes when we order a drink..

Return trip to this spoons and this time the place was let down by staff the place was not busy but the staff seemed stressed drinks were slammed on table when delivered We did not order food but food looked okay those who were eating never got asked if food was okay I ordered a drink on app when it came it was wrong when I went to bar was told I must have ordered wrong drink I hadn't as had my virtual receipt so correct drink was slammed in front of me no apology!!!! Also loads of tables not being cleared !! Did go back this morning and what a difference ordered food from an older lady who was very friendly she also delivered food and came back 5 minutes to check everything okay. I would give this lady 5/5 Last night team monday I would score 0/5

Incredibly cheap food in fairly good quantity as well as drinks or deals including drinks. Conveniently order via app, indoor and outdoor seating, generally very chilled atmosphere with super friendly staff. Food was delicious also. My main concern are toilets or their quite bad situation to be precise (not sure if unlucky during my visit, still should be looked into more), otherwise would be more eager to recommend.

Slow service when pub wasn't busy. Our Table & surrounding tables were not cleared for more than 3hrs. Servers brought stuff yet walked away empty handed rather than take glasses n plates with them. Disabled toilet out of use

Not sure we asked for massive jugs of cocktails but the price was good. Pub seems pretty decent for its location and clientele. Staff were friendly, I would return.

Went for lunch here and to watch Wimbledon final. Friendly service. Reasonable price. Don't miss chicken wings.. Mouth watering.. very 😋 yum.

Down here for 2 nights with work. Had the steak. Definitely good for the price. Lad behind the bar was really good. Ate my meal then went to the bar for another pint. Back to my table where id left a third of a glass of Stella and it had been cleared. Spoke to the blond lady in the golden rimmed glasses who just said 'Well there wasn't much left' and walked away! Really? So am i coming back tomorrow? Erm no. Lots of other pubs around here!
