I really liked this place, stayed two nights here. The room was spacious and clean, situated in an inner court yard. I can imagine that this might be noisy during summer months but it wasn’t a problem this time. Very helpful staff and delicious food!! I would stay here again.

We were meeting up with our cousin who was holidaying in the area. We arrived early and were afforded a warm welcome by the manager who directed us to our table. We enjoyed cappuccinos whilst we waited. My wife and I both chose scampi and our cousin selected one of the veggie options. The food, served by friendly staff, was excellent. I couldn't resist the salted caramel ice cream sundae which was a sheer indulgence. It was nice to be in a dog friendly pub and to meet the resident dog. We will return. Highly recommended.

Ham Egg and Chips - Fairly simple you would have thought. Not so. The chips were like oven chips, dry and overcooked. I was not offered the option of skinny chips, but I saw them being served to other tables later. The two fried eggs were solid and had obviously been scraped off the pan. As some sort of garnish there was an offering of a pile of mixed leaves. My wife’s sausage and mash was simply bland. These meals were not cheap. They also had no brown sauce, although there was a single sachet in the glass on the table, so I had the feeling they never even looked for any. Very disappointing.

Sadly we had to visit Oxfordshire for a family funeral and needed somewhere to stay for a couple of nights. We decided on the Cherry Tree due to its proximity to the rest of the family and the crematorium. What an inspired choice it turned out to be. Bianca and the staff could not have been more friendly, helpful and supportive. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. My wife and I had a double room in the main building and my sister in law and niece shared a twin room in the courtyard. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and had all the amenities you would expect. It had such a warm, homely feel about it that we felt relaxed immediately we arrived. We had a meal in the bar area both nights and the food was fantastic. The choice at breakfast was also excellent and set us up for the day. Next time we travel down to see the family we will definitely book in at the Cherry Tree and would recommend it unreservedly to anyone else.

Just returned here from a very lovely close friend's Birthday meal which we booked for 7.30pm. Ordered and our pizza's arrived lovely, excellent cooked. Had sides and had checked back from our lovely waitress. It started to get quite loud with drinkers singing at the bar. I asked the Manager if we could get an extra special pudding for my Birthday Friend, only to be told "No Kitchen closes at 9pm" Nothing he could do! Really! 9pm! We not told of this on arrival! Why if we were in for a evening meal. Payed at Bar, over £55 quid, will be writing to head office, but also told Waitress she was excellent, but Management really need some Management Training, guess he is only used to running a Drinking Pub. Won't be returning, won't be recommending, won't visit again, won't eat again, and I suggest if you book, you see if the kitchen is open for your visit. Shame as this used to be a absolutely wonderful establishment, which we have visited thousand of times before Pandemic.

Just been for a two course meal . Where do I start . Ordered drinks all fine . The landlord then got delivered a takeaway meal this worried me a bit . The girl who was behind the bar done her best but obviously new . On her own and 6pm on a weekday is quite a busy time with people coming home from work . We were so disappointed as we really wanted to support the village pub re-opening again . The starters came the garlic mushrooms were slightly over cooked so hard . The wild mushroom soup was okay but no spoon . Asked for one and was told to wait as I am serving customers . Two customers later asked again and soup by this point was Luke warm . Again lack of training . The mains came tuna was raw and sent it back parts were still not good . Had to ask for the garlic bread which should have came with the chilli con carne which again was Luke warm . I feel sorry for the inexperienced staff whilst the landlord was relaxing up stairs with his takeaway . All in all not good and such a shame as a couple our expectations are quite normal and for a village pub on a week night but come on get more experienced staff maybe dare I say older staff who have some customer service experience as when paying we did voice our comments but did not think they were really interested . I think the cherry tree have a long way to go before they are up there with the competition and previous landlords. Our server done her best and was very polite just a little forgetful maybe . I think we have to say what we feel otherwise they think all is good . Unfortunately we won’t rush back . But good luck for the future

Had no flavour and looked awful, which was an improvement on the sandwich which looked even worse! Sandwich was bland, dressed salad had no dressing and the less said about the presentation the better! No redeeming features at all - welcome was non existent, service was terse and unfriendly. Have been here twice now with my family for lunch and have to say everything was fantastic. All the staff have been friendly, speedy and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Love the idea of a monthly changing vegan menu to give some variety (though was disappointed on our second visit to not be able to have the banana fritters again!). They also have a seperate gluten free menu perfect for my coeliac mum, and used little heart cocktail sticks to indicate the gf dishes for added assurance. Everyone agreed all the food was excellent, a lot of thought has gone into every detail of each dish and speaking to the staff I could tell they really cared about doing well. They also have a lovely outdoor area and are dog friendly.

Called in for a pre-booked dinner for four on a Thursday evening. The menu looked excellent, with a good vegetarian choice and a separate vegan list (for those interested). The environment was pleasant, the reception moderately welcoming, service OK.We decided to go for starters and mains. There was a promising selection of both, choosing from a well presented menu with some excellent sounding items. The starters were very good, nicely presented, good flavours (bruschetta, stuffed mushroom, liver pate, halloumi chips). After a bit of a wait the mains arrived and so the disappointment. By chance two of us had ordered vegetable fajitas with the addition of chicken. Can't complain about the chicken, but if the small collection of blackened, limp vegetables with it constituted a vegetable fajita... Possiby one moderately filled wrap quantity, definitely not £10.50 worth! The Shepherdless Pie was OK as these things go, except that the promised green lentils were not and the bit of mash on top was defintitely not the promised rosti. The forth main I recall as OK, but nothing special. On balance the overall experience was average, had we gone by mains alone that rating would have been generous. Disappointingly, given the great looking menu, we won't be hurrying back

Six family members visited to celebrate a birthday. Yes, it was mother's day so we knew the place would be busy but this should not have affected our enjoyment and as regular on and off vsitors for more years than I care to remember we had high hopes for an enjoyable lunch. We had specifically chosen the Cherry Tree because, unlike many pubs it offered a choice of veg/vegan dishes (5 of us are veggie) and a veggie Sunday Roast (why do some many places seem to think veggies will be happy with a standard pasta dish on a Sunday instead of a Sunday Roast?).First, The positives: friendly and attentive staff, service without a huge wait and just the right amount of time allowed between each course. Now for the not so good which sadly far outweigh the positives. One of us ordered a dish from the vegan menu - sorry, they'd run out of that. Never mind he chose another dish from the vegan menu - sorry, they'd run out of that as well. Both dishes contained chick peas and they'd run out of chick peas. Why on earth put two dishes on a menu which have the same main ingredient so if you run out for one dish you automatically run out for the second? Not a good start. Okay, so third time lucky and the choice for made for another item on the vegan menu - Pea Risotto.Having made our choices we awaited the arrival of identical 4 starters. They arrived but two were without the dressing on the salad - not impressive. Then came the mains. The vegan Pea Risotto had obviously not been made using risotto rice and in the words of the diner was just 'rice and peas' and without much flavour (not what the birthday girl had hoped for). The nut roasts looked dry and did not give the impression of having been made as a large roast with slices cut from it. The gravy which came in a separate gravy boat to pour over them was gelatinous in texture and although rich in colour did not look particularly appertising. The vegetables - cabage and obviously pre-sliced carrots - looked tired. Had they been sitting in hot water for some time until served - they certainly looked as if they had? "Memories of school dinners with overcooked vegetables" was how one of the party described them.Overall the meal gave the impression of having been bought-in ready prepared - slices of nut roast, pre-chopped vegetables - and simply put in an oven or hot water to cook. There was no feeling of hearty, welcoming 'home cooking'.After disappointment all round we decided that however tempting some of the puds looked on the menu we wouldn't risk finding they too didn't live up to expectations so most of us declined a dessert. Two of our party had honeycomb ice cream altough one of those portions seemed to be without any actual pieces of honeycomb. And finally to the bill. When this arrived we had been overcharged by over £60. Admittedly, as soon as we raised this, the problem was resolved without question but with the comment that the till seemed to have miscalculated bills before. If this was a known problem why on earth weren't the staff being more careful to ensure bills were correct before presenting them to customers? If we hadn't checked our bill we could quite easily have overpaid by a huge amount. We had been disappointed in the meal but finding we had been overcharged really did leave us with a lasting feeling of having been let down in every way.We have another birthday celebration coming up within the next few weeks. Will we be going back to The Cherry Tree? Absolutely not.

First of all, our waitress Jade, was excellent. We came to The Cherry Tree this time last year and after choosing from the gluten free menu, my daughter who has coeliac disease spent the whole night vomiting as somebody in the kitchen had given her “normal” fajitas instead of gluten free ones. Last night, my daughter had a ploughman’s with GLUTEN FREE bread and yet again she has spent the whole night vomiting! Kitchen staff need to realise the importance of cross contamination and take these allergies seriously. She is unable to go to work today because of this. I’m so upset and angry!

But is was rather spoilt by a huge Yorkshire pudding filled with roast potatoes smothered in a thick brown catering gravy. We arrived around 1pm on a Monday afternoon after a busy weekend, having booked a table. On arrival the lady behind the bar realised that the table she had reserved for us was taken, but we could choose from the many others that were free. We order at the bar our food and drinks. My wife had the little bites Ham and Egg, which was a nice size and came with chips. For myself I thought I would try the black pudding and bacon salad, which the guy at the bar recommended. It also was a nice size with a poached egg on top. The egg was poached long enough for the yoke to be solid. Bacon was cooked very nice, but in a salad with bacon the black pudding made it all very dry and if there was a dressing on the salad it was put on the plate first and very little. The chips were nice and fluffy on the inside and crispy outsides. They have a nice selection of beers on tap also, one of which I enjoyed. Overall I found the menu average and the one thing that looked interesting to try rather a disappointment.

Nice and friendly staff, accommodating, with prompt service. The important part about a meal however is the food...For other people in our party the food was passable apparently, this review is mainly about my meal. My souffle was cooked exactly how the chefs on TV do it. The chefs in competitions that are juggling too many orders and produce scrambled eggs instead of a light and fluffy puff of flavour. You know what a souffle looks like; this was more of a mousse. My pork belly was overcooked top and bottom and was 80% (no exaggeration) fat. Pork belly has a higher than usual fat content, but does not have to be inedible. Done well it can be all about very tender juicy meat. With a deepfried apple slice (menu says "slices") and cream + whole grain mustard sauce (menu says "cider sauce") I felt sick within a few minutes; a creamy sauce is exactly what you don't need :/ "Seasonal greens" turned out to be carrots (!) and green beans (seasonal in the UK in summer afaik, not January...). I left most of my meal and when it was cleared away the staff ignored the amount left uneaten and didn't take the initiative to ask if everything was OK. My friend's chicken tikka starter (menu says "skewers") turned out to be skewer, singular. £6.50 for three chunks of chicken I'm afraid is nothing short of daylight robbery. (I noted that another reviewer mentioned that the "mushrooms" in the breakfast turned out to be mushroom, singular.) His battered fish main course looked burned to me. It feels needlessly cruel to go on (there were other comments from my companions), but suffice to say, not a place I'll return to.

First visit but certainly won't be our last.... A nice warm very oldy-worldy pub with loads of atmosphere...Good menu, all food cooked fresh, food served really hot, everything cooked perfectly including the veg and both the Bar Service and the Restaurant Service was great.Didn't stay in the B&B but I'm sure it would be just as good...We did use the "facilities" and they were sweet smelling and immaculately clean..Thank-you for a lovely lunch experience, 10/10 in all areas :0)

Only gave an average score as it certainly wasn't very good, just OK good. We booked and were told that we might have to wait a long while to order as they had lots of xmas parties in. Well, either they cancelled, or they left before we got there at 1, as I counted only 8 tables of about 40 available being occupied. We got our table fine enough and ordered. My felafel burger came as though it had been emptied out of a packet. Surely it's not that hard to handmake them ? Tasted OK enough. Drinks for 4 and main meals came to £52. Not bad.

SIDs night out (Steventon Informal Diners) Booked a large table in the top bar for 14 of us, when we arrived the pub was buzzing, and I wondered if they would cope. However Jason, Shaun, and their team rose to the occasion. Everyone enjoyed their food, it all arrived well cooked and piping hot, although they were extremely busy we all got our meals soon after ordering it. It's nice to know we now have couple who can run a pub serve good food and beer. I would not hesitate to recommend the Cherry Tree.

It was early one evening after a busy Halloween lunchtime when we pitched up. Unfortunately they had sold out of Sunday lunch which was probably a good sign, but most of the rest of the menu was on and my wife was particularly complementary about her fish in batter which was particularly well done and the portions were good. Service was friendly and some decent well kept ales on tap. Would be happy to go again if passing.

Just thought I'd treat myself to a nice Sunday lunch. I ordered the nut roast. Quite a long wait. I was served a soggy microwaved slice which looked like something cheap from tescos. Overcooked veg. Soggy Yorkshire. Three small, soggy roast potatoes. Soggy carrots. No gravy. Chef said it would taken 45mins to make gravy. It takes me about 5mins at home. Sent the meal back for a full refund. Waste of time. I won't bother trying here again. Plenty of other pubs nearby.

This is a nice pub in the heart of an Oxfordshire village. The decor is pleasant and cosy, and when I visited the log fire was roaring away. I went with friends on a Sunday and had the Sunday lunch menu. The food was of a good standard. The Yorkshire puddings were huge! The seasonal veg was nicely cooked and had plenty of taste and bite, I really dislike over cooked veg! The beef was ok. I would have preferred a rarer piece. The service was good, and the staff polite. The drinks were reasonably priced.Overall a pleasant meal and visit.

Our daughter was going back to University, so she wanted to take mum and dad out to where she and her boyfriend had, had a good meal.Three meals came, I thought the other (my wife's) would be right out so we started our meals. After about ten minutes, my wife asked about her meal, A pie with veg and gravy. The lady brought out her meal and apologised for the delay. When she started it, she said to me it's cold I can't eat it and the gravy was cold and lump. The same lady returned and in passing asked if our meals were alright? When my wife explained she apologised and asked what she would like, Pie if it won't take too long, about five minutes, it took about fifteen, and it was piping hot, as it should have been. We had finished our meals and my wife tried the meal but after picking at it, left it.We did not have to pay for the pie(s), as a gesture. The night was ruined. My daughter and her boyfriend were upset, my wife was upset, which annoyed me.We won't be going back.

Visited this pub on a Saturday early evening with family and dog! To be honest, chose this pub because they allowed dogs and it wasn't too far away from my daughters' new home. First impression is WOW........a really traditional, warm, cosy, English pub. We found a table in a corner which was in a lovely spot, we could see the bar and fire but not too close to either ! PERFECT.There were several menus on the table, promoting several different themed evenings and Christmas & New Year. I was especially pleased to find that Saturday night was Steak Night! We ordered our meals and drinks at the bar, the lady who served us was extremely nice and explained their till was re-loading (!?)at the moment and she'd put everything through later to get the bill but put our food order through to the kitchen manually. My son in law, son and I all took advantage of steak night! Daughter had pie and husband linguine. ALL the food came out looking fabulous and tasted even better. My only personal moan was that the plates where cold but we were early doors and maybe the warmer hadn't got going yet!Decided not to have desserts on this visit as had long drive home but look forward to next time! Our dog behaved himself and enjoyed his doggie bag later at home. We were so impressed with The Cherry Tree food, ambiance, cost and welcome that we are booking a return visit for New Years Day brunch! (Took one of their seasonal leaflets home with me)Thank you one and all.

Much improved internal lighting is more welcoming than before. We both ordered the Fish and Chips deal, £14.95 for two, a friend had told us the portions were not very big. However we were not disappointed when our dishes arrived. The food was well cooked along with a generous ramekin of Tartar source, not the measly sachets some establishments provide, the portion size was about right. The new management have definitely made an improvement on the pub.

Had a meal here to celebrate a family birthday. We had all pre booked our meal choice weeks in advance so presumed that would make things easier for our 20+ party. We were seated promptly and our starters began to appear however the time between the first coming out and the last was ages. Most people just started eating as they got fed up waiting for all the starters come out. The waiter was very dithery. The same happened with the main courses, the birthday girl was last to get her meal a good 15 minutes after my meal had been served, ridiculous really! Everyone had finished before hers arrived !! Although I have to say that the quality of the food more than made up for the unorganised service. I would eat here again but just really hope they address the issues of service as not everyone would be willing to give them a 2nd chance no matter how good the food was.

I met a friend for lunch here last Tuesday during my lunch hour. I have been here before many times as it is down the road from where I work which is why I was so surprised at the poor service and food. We both order the prawn cocktail starter as it was such a hot day. It was describes as prawns, apple on a bed of leaves with a lime and coriander mayonnaise, with brown bread. It took an age to arrive (which is odd for a cold dish) and was very disappointing when it did. It was leaves from a cheap bag (seen better days) with a very small mount of chopped up apple, mixed with tiny prawns. On top was a horrible looking (not home-made) "sauce" which looked like tartare from a jar. On the side was 1 slice of ready cut bread. It looked and tasted horrible. I asked for brown bread and got given the crust of another ready cut packet of bread. The apple was the best bit. I didn't eat the rest. I told the waitress that I was disappointed with the food and she said "sorry" and walked off. We complained again on payment but none of the staff seemed bother or in the least bit interested. There was only one other table in the whole place that had people on it so they weren't rushed off their feet.My friend thought that it had changed hands recently. Definitely not for the better. I won't be going again anytime soon.

We had dinner at this pleasant traditional pub in the delightful village of Steventon, Oxon. The menu is a cut above standard pub meals, and all of our choices were delicious and well presented. The fish and chips are particularly good. Everything is freshly cooked to order. There are choices for vegetarians, as well as those with smaller appetites. Service is friendly and efficient. The wine list is on the short side, but includes some pleasant wines at reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit.

The food here is very good pub food with tasty specials. However, in summer we found it very noisy as the smoking area is directly outside rooms 1 to 4 in a patio area. This is very bad planning and not recommended if you need to get up early like we did. We used to visit here often as it was a Friday lunchtime haunt. Now that I am retired we stayed here and had a few meals there. What stands out was the fish platter I had for lunch. This was a nice balance of fried fish and fishcakes with both tasty tartare and chili sauces. For the evening meal on both nights I had their raised shortcrust pies. One first night with turkey and ham and on the second it was steak and kidney. Both were delicious with well made gravy. The service was very friendly and personal. In summary, we would eat here again but it is doubtful if we would stay again as the prices were quite high for noisy accommodation.

We had one lunch, two dinner and two breakfasts in the restaurant. The menu is traditional "pub grub" in nature but the lunch boards (especially the fish board and the local ploughman's) were tasty and filling. The specials in the evening were above average. The homemade pies of the day were lovely and the chef willingly brought extra gravy (yummy). The breakfasts were cooked to order and included eggs benedict at no extra charge.

Had a Sunday lunch for 2, my wife had previously been and rated this village pub part of the Greene King group. In a way the pub is traditional with a bar, restaurant layout but with a COVID canopy with booth style tables. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The draught beer on offer was a Greene King summer brew and a guest ale from Hardy & Hansons, Old Trip. Very reasonably priced at £4.80. We both had a roast, I had beef and my wife pork. My beef was plentiful but a little chewy but wife’s pork was good. The roast potatoes were very good and the vegetables were plentiful if a little soggy. There was a good sweet selection I had the apple pie with custard which was alright. I don’t know why there haven’t been any recent reviews but based on this visit I won’t be rushing back, sorry.
