The Lamb Inn in Vale of White Horse

Food was lovely - we had the lamb shank and the ham hock - meat was so tender it fell off the bone and the mint sauce gravy with the lamb was lovely. Choice of chips or new potatoes, salad or veg. The veg was standard frozen, but cooked perfectly. Followed up with treacle pudding and spotted dick with custard - both really nice. Large range on the menu and specials board, including lots of baguette choices. Whole meal - 2 courses plus a lager each was just under £47 = pretty good these days. Staff were friendly and helpful, food served quickly (allowing for cooking). Nice decor. Has a car park, 5 minutes walk from the town centre.

The lamb was recommended to me by a friend who regularly has a roast dinner here and rates it . I planned a Christmas meal based on their great set Xmas menu You can have two courses for under £20 or three for under £25 . Great options and something for everyone ! Our table was ready in a nice area away from the families with little kids , we were greeted and our drinks ordered quickly even tho the bar was busy with regulars . One of our party wanted something off the set menu and the staff were happy to oblige and keep the price the same which we thought was really obliging ! The starters were hot and tasty , the mains were mighty with plenty of veg and the most wonderful roasties , crispy with a fluffy inside mmmmmm!! We had the salmon which was huge , great value, others had the steak which fortunately was cooked perfectly , altho no one had asked us how it was preferred , maybe we should have asked but despite that it was lovely and not over cooked . Great choice of puds too. Then hot drinks were offered and lovely warm mince pies came out ! The Lamb you excelled yourselves , Lovely food , cosy pub, attentive friendly staff , brilliant value considering more “popular” pubs in Wantage have set menus for more than £30 which honestly would not compare to this! Compliments to the chef!! W

Stopped here on a car journey from Cardiff to London with my grandmother - loved it!

We held a gathering here after my husband's funeral. The staff and service could not have been better. The atmosphere was relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble from the playlist to the food. They made it so easy for us at a difficult time. Buffet was freshly cooked. Thank you all very much indeed. See you soon

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Service was good and efficient. The pub looks great, however the food was a bit disappointing. Starters were not made from fresh ingredients. Our burgers tasted like McDonald's. No lettuce, no tomatoes, no onions...nothing but beef and cheese on bread. Chips were served warm rather than hot just out of the frier. For that price I was expecting more quality rather than being served frozen food.

Had a brilliant lunch here, service was quick food was hot and it was a proper pub lunch with plenty on the plate. Pub doesn't look that big from the road view but was surprised how large it was inside with plenty of tables, has an outside covered seating area and a play area for children Very friendly and helpful staff Loved the quips on the timber beams One of Wantage's best-ALFRED the GREAT Would be proud !

The artist's plaque on the side of the building identifies the Lamb as once belonging to Morland's Brewery. More recently it has been owned by Fullers but it now operates as a free house. On the bar, inevitably, is London Pride alongside a couple of well selected mainly local ales - at the time of our visit were offerings from White Horse and Ramsbury. The pub claims to be the second oldest building in the town, after the church, and the only thatched building but despite this and the exposed wooden beams and stone floors, the place lacks the atmosphere of a traditional pub. Several gaming machines don't help either. There is an extensive menu which is reasonably priced and has something for everyone, although you won't find anything to really get excited about. Service is good an staff are friendly and welcoming. Overall there is little to really to pick fault with but somehow this pub just lacks the wow factor. Borderline between 3 and 4 stars, but I have rounded up on the strength of range of ales available.

Well, a very nice place inside, very old with a very English pub decoration. Senior atmosphere, those of the people, come on. Occasional live music. Ideal for having a pint in a good atmosphere. I went there recommended, it was worth it.

The meal said chicken breast but it was chicken strips. The vegetables were not really cooked. The cheese had not melted. We have been here a few times before and had lovely meals perhaps it's a different chef.

Serves good pub grub from main menu and daily specials board, also special deals. Look out for Tom’s spicy Korean burger on the specials board.if they haven’t got exactly what you want ask and they will do it for you if they can.

Lovely lunch. Very friendly, efficient staff. Huge portions of food. I enjoyed the crispy vegetables, salad & chips & my lunch companion had a portion of scampi, chips & peas. Only improvement would be a choice of normal or smaller portion for those with less appetite to reduce waste of food.

A great place to drink and dine especially with all the offers that they have been offering in recently months. Burger Meal or Curry and any pint for £10 and now the two 8oz steaks with a bottle of wine for £28. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and there's also a good selection of lagers.

This is an extremely friendly local Free House and offers an extensive range of excellent pub food at exceptional prices. My wife and I opted for the Rib-Eye Steak deal. Two substantial Steaks with Fries, & mushrooms etc plus a bottle of wine all for £28.00. The steaks were cooked beautifully and melted in the mouth; the service was quick efficient. The pub itself is situated very close to the town centre, has ample parking and although a bit quirky, a mix of old and new it's well worth a visit

The only pub in Wantage where the food and drink has been consistently good over the years. The team are amazing and everytime we come we always feel welcome, just one of the reasons we made this our local. We're moving away and I can honestly say the only thing I'll miss about Wantage is this pub and its staff. Reasonably priced food and drink and a rotating selection of ales if you fancy trying something a bit different. Nice to see an inclusion of locally produced beers on the rotation as well. Very big garden and play equipment for the kids makes it perfect for a family meal.

The oldest pub in wantage and the second oldest building In The town, a good full bar and fantastic selection of spirits. Massive car park and decent sized garden with kids play equipment, decent quality food very fitting the prices paid. Lots of table space inside and out. Child friendly for sure. Locals keep them selves to them selves but Friday nights can be very loud. In all a fantastic classic pub, the beer is fantastic and the atmosphere is welcoming

Very cosy and friendly staff. Plenty of wooden beams everywhere, well it is 17th Century! There is a very good menu together with a 'Today Specials'. We had the seafood platter and salmon fillet all with potatoes, it was bostinly tasty and hot. We were left alone, no one pestering us! Well worth a visit for Bostin pub food.

Highly recommended. I love this place. Relaxed atmosphere for drinking ale. Serves crisps, nuts and pork scratchings to go with your pint of choice. They also have a few bottles of wine and selected spirits with high quality mixers. We took the dog and my knitting, fitted right in. Good selection of cask and keg ales, and cans too. I love the way the original fittings from it being a butcher's shop have all just been left and are part of the style of design.. Also. The toilet walls have been decoupaged with vintage comic books.. amazing to read whilst on the loo or washing your hands! Owner is very friendly and helpful.. I will be coming again when back in the area.

Food was awful my daughters cod you couldn’t even eat as it had been fried within an inch of its life they had no beef roast and said we could have it served with steak instead I asked for a lamb roast they only had lamb shank the veg was hard the potatoes were cold and the lamb had no flavour will not be returning again

Two out of five of our meals were vile. We ordered fish and chips; fish was virtually cremated and the chips were raw. Eight hours later and I still have gut ache. No one checked during the meal that everything was okay. Made the waitress aware at the end of our meal that it was inedible. No attempt to rectify the situation. But on the positive side, the landlord and lady seemed to be enjoying themselves socialising with their friends at the bar. I've had better food at a Hungry Horse. Prices aren't particularly cheap, expected a lot better. Won't be going back ever again.

Booked a table for 6 on a Monday evening with a couple of specific requests. These were managed perfectly. Upon arrival the staff were friendly and attentive but not over the top. Service was great with only a minor oversight on allergies that was dealt with quickly and without fuss when we double checked. The food was delicious, and of good quality, well prepared and all 6 of us cleared our plates. The desserts were equally well done. We stayed chatting quite late as we didn’t realise their closing time and staff put no pressure on us to leave. Will be returning.

My friend and I had a lovely tasty meal at The Lamb Inn. Staff were friendly and attentive. If I was local I would be using this as a regular haunt.

Looked around for somewhere in Oxfordshire to have a steak with my friend, online menu was good so the Lamb it was. Absolutely cooked my sirloin steak to perfection, all sides were lovely and friend had fish and chips, equally good. Staff were polite and helpful, pub was clean and welcoming and will definitely eat there again, infact looking forward to it. Well done to the team, would definitely recommend.

Food was good and the outdoor area is great

First of all, no knock on the service staff, they were doing a great job and with all the stuff that's been going on over the last year they're basically beyond reproach as far as I'm concerned. The inside and outside were nice too. The food though... There's absolutely nothing wrong with serving frozen fish and oven chips in a pub (who doesn't love cheap and cheerful), but when most people know exactly what these look like, the gall to put them on a plate in front of you and charge £10.95 for them is sickening. Someone needs to either substantially decrease the price of the food or turn the whole thing into a gastropub and stick with the prices. I know which I'd do.

Turned up wet and cold off the ridgeway with bikes and no booking during covid welcomed and fed well even while dripping on the floors!!

The food menu is straight out the 1970s and the real ale selection is limited, but we keep going back as it's a pleasant pub just outside the town centre with decent, friendly service. COVID measures in place.

Nice looking pub but the food was rubbish. We had Sunday roast which was very poor quality and dessert which although being charged top dollar again was very poor. Won't be going again. Greedy and lacking in the ability to prepare quality meals. All they know is how to charge over inflated prices.
