Boundary House public house in Vale of White Horse

This is the same review I did for Google with the addition that I loved this pub before the refurb and I think it’s Mitchell and Kaleigh I would like to give a massive shout out to the Boundary house. The young man that is always behind the bar (I’m ashamed I don’t know his name Mitchell? ) is an absolute delight. He makes every single person feel like they are the most important customer. He is cheerful and so helpful. I have been bringing my Mym and my uncle (who are both in their 80s ) to this pub for over a year. We had a break for the refurbishment but we are back and loving it. My mum does not eat out generally as she is scared of large portions and is a very anxious person. The lady that serves us every time , with long dark hair, is the nicest server I have ever met. These two employees run a busy lunch time service as a crew of two front of house and I kid you not, there no stress or bluster and they seem to do the work if 10. The food is superb quality, beautifully presented and hot! I really wanted to take the time to tell you about the staff at this pub because if I lived nearer I would be there all the time. My uncle now visits with friends and having lost his wife a year ago, this pub is now his go to place to have a great meal with friends and companionship. You should value these staff as they make this beautiful pub a great pub. You may have had a poor roast potato on Mother’s Day but I have never had a bad meal here and the coffee is perfect. Thanks. The food and redecorated interior were the only redeeming features unfortunately. We were greeted by a particularly grumpy man, who told me they don't serve what I ordered...and then when I pointed at the label told me it wasn't the name of the beer, but their motto?! He then proceeded to say "it won't be, I'm working here today" when we left and said have a nice day.

Tracey is an absolute legend and makes the place enjoyable to visit more often

Best pub lunch we've had in ages! Lovely atmosphere and decor, friendly staff, quick service, and the food was delicious. Very reasonable prices too. Will definitely return.

Meet up with a friend had a lovely meal. Food was hot and tasty Will come back the only negative was it was really cold in the restaurant area.

Came in for some dinner and to watch the six nations England vs Wales. What an atmosphere. The food was fabulous as per normal and service was excellent even though the pub was packed. The atmosphere was electric and thank goodness England won as it made the evening even more enjoyable. Totally will be back for the next rounds. Booking recommend or you will miss out.

They do a really good breakfast.

One bar lady in particular was rude, with a terrible attitude. When challenged over said attitude, the attitude got worse. Rubbish service, the wait for service is a joke. It's a shame, but I won't be going back.

We received great service from a lovely lady named Sarah. She was very accommodating on our visit and we would definitely return again.

Mediocre went for Sunday lunch, beef very over cooked and tough veg was only warm, mixed grill again only warm, if you want cheap and cheerful then this is for you

Excellent costumer service, great place, good parking, very clean but portions got smaller! :( We had hunter's chicken which is our Favourite but the portion was less and drier... Please if possible do the same plate as before... And also really wished fireplace could be on as well...

Staff were rude to my colleagues for ordering separately and gave them dirty looks for not speaking perfect English.

Just had lunch at the boundary house it was delicious I had scampi jacket potato and salad. Hubby had fish and chips it was really hot and tasty will definitely be back soon. Tha landlady is so friendly without being too intrusive

We went here today with some of our family for lunch . We all said this is a nice place to go after they had a refit inside and outside garden is nice with lots of seating . The staff were all polite nothing to much trouble everywhere was clear and all our meals were hot and nice . We all said we come here again and with more of our family too plus with friends. 1st time back in the boundary house after its refurbishment! Looked great and ordered some food with a lovely bar maid Michelle. Food tasted delicious I had katsu chicken. On the flip side the service bringing my food to the table was not welcoming due to bar staff having no manners and shouting ‘anyone sitting here’.i didn’t report this at the time but later on in the evening same bar staff member had to plates one in each hand and was coming through the pub I hadn’t seen her she shouted move ‘move excuse me!’ I said ‘please’.She said ‘don’t be rude’. On two occasions the same member of staff was shouting and rude and also called me names under her breath when I said I’m off to your manager I do not come for a family meal to be shouted and mistreated in a public place! Think her name was Sarah but unsure happened on 09/12/23 arrived at 4ish to the pub.This also happend in front of my 6 year old daughter.

Lovely atmosphere and food is amazing!!

We had a wonderful visit this afternoon to the boundary House, our lunch was superb we chose the three course senior menu and the steak and Ale pie all excellent. the staff were so friendly and efficient. Valerie and Peter Dearlove.

The cathedral to gluttony and cheap food that was the Boundary House has fallen. The new look Boundary House is a much tamer, boring, Green King with a cliché and boring pub menu. No more pages of exciting variety, the menu is a simple 2 page pub affair. Where you used to be able to buy a challenge meal with over 4000kcal for £15 and feed the whole family, you can now get a couple of skinny burgers in a bap with a meagre collection of fries for £11. Can the kids play in the playground dangerously close to the road? Nope not any more. It's all been removed so smokers can sit outside in the cold and watch cricket on the outdoor TV. If there is a positive to be said, the toilets are now amazing. Clean, well built, and no longer with a strange fog smelling of urine. They're the kind of loos that I wouldn't mind popping into on my way past. However, if you sit in the loos for too long hiding from your bored children while you write a review on Google, you will find that the energy saving motion detector will turn the lights off on you, and you will have to complete your trip using your phone's torch. I'll probably visit again as it's an easy to get to lunchtime pub, but I don't think I'll ever be as excited to visit as much as I was the old Boundary House, where I could get 4 large burgers in a bap for £10 on a Friday.

Nice refurbishment but the service staff were struggling to cope , After half an hour waiting for two soft drinks we unfortunately left without ordering lunch .

Used to be a really nice place to eat but, due to closing for refurbishment, the food was limited. Menu had changed dramatically since our last visit and didn't offer as much choice. We visited here for the weekday flaming grill. First impression is that it's a local pub and the interior is not up to date (probably to do with the low lighting?). A few tables were left with food/dishes which weren't cleaned after the customers left. Lots of drinks were not available during our visit, because some machines were out of order. There were only 2 waitresses behind the bar, and they were struggling taking the order of drinks/foods. It took nearly 15 mins to place the order. The speed of food served is good. The quality of the steaks were not great, but you pay for what you get -£10.99. The taste of sharing platters is also average.

Attended quiz night last night. What a great night. I believe Ian was the quiz master. The competition was stiff, there was much rivalry between what was obviously the local teams. We had the chicken mix to share and the Stinger burger with waffle fries....

This place is an absolute dump! The first thing I heard on entering the pub was a supervisor/manager telling her waitress that "if the food delivery comes we're closing the kitchen and if customers don't like it they can f****** lump it". First two ales we ordered tasted of vinegar and the replacements didn't taste much better. Ordered a Malibu and coke which tasted of water as they'd run out of the syrup. The pub is filthy, with sticky tables and bar top, the cuttlery had dried food on them where they've not been cleaned properly. Disgusting staff and a disgusting pub. We won't ever be coming back to this dump.

Two different ales were off. So courage a drink, because the coke dispenser was off. Food. Hunters chicken saturated with flavour of fried onions. Would not recommend.

Thought we'd try a different pub to our usual one for lunch with the family today and wish we'd never wanted our money. Dirty tables and floors, the front garden is strewn with litter and over spilling rubbish bins and ashtrays. The waitress had no idea about the menu when ordering and it took forever! When my food came out it was freezer burnt and the peas where shriveled up. Most of the furniture is heavily stained or ripped to pieces. Not a single redeeming positive thing I can say. What a foul pub this is, I won't ever be coming back.

Went to the boundary for a charity race night being hosted there. It was a great atmosphere raising around £250 for spartan boxing club. We also had snack foods which were served to us in a timely manner. We finished of our night watching and playing Darts.
