We had dinner there last Satuday evening for my sisters 50th Birthday. Was so much fun, really great, local pub, fantastic atmosphere, that we could walk to. I had the burger which frankly was incredible - enormous and utterly delicious, thank you. Will definitely be back again soon.

We had our end of season Colts Rugby Awards here on Saturday evening. The plum pudding could not have been more helpful. The food was amazing, the atmosphere perfect and the locals welcomed us with open arms! The manager went out of his way to make sure we all had a perfect night. Highly recommend.

Many of my colleagues live near by and with me being the furthest away, I travel up from Bristol for the odd lunch or company get together. Last occasion of going there was in October ‘24 when we saw one of my team off on maternity leave. The meal came to around £105.00 and as I was leaving early to travel back home, I went to the bar and requested to pay £80.00 of the bill leaving everyone to put in a fiver each of the remaining due. When I got home I noticed that I had been charged £96.00. My team confirmed that they paid the remaining £25.00. I emailed then called to query why I was charged an additional £16.00. The initial response provided was that they suspected that I had paid £80.00 plus I had requested to pay £16.00 tip???The manager confirmed that he would look at the cctv that covers the tills and also ask his staff. He confirmed that he would come back to me. Never did hear from them again. Principles in mind, I won't be returning which is a big shame as I did enjoy going there. Would advise everyone to request a printed receipt if you go there when paying by card.

What a lovely pub🥰stopped off here after visiting Didcot Railway Centre, lovely welcoming manager amazing food, will definitely be back.

Fantastic food for the price and a nice atmosphere. Staff a little inexperienced but given the value of the food this can easily be forgiven.

I was concerned about the smell in the toilet, Of course the food is delicious, so I give it 5 stars. Customer service is also very good.

Great atmosphere and delightful staff who made sure everyone was looked after. Food left a lot to be desired, but our big group had a great time thanks to everything else being perfect. It was busy on a Wednesday evening so had to park down on the main road, which wasn't ideal.

Friendly, welcoming pub with a good choice of drinks. We called in for lunch on a cold Saturday. It was a little bit chilly inside when we arrived but the food was very good. Particularly recommended is the pork medallions with brandy in a creamy sauce.

Popped into the Plum Pudding unplanned. We received a friendly welcome and despite not having booked, they found a nice table for 5 of us. I had a steak frites with garlic butter and peppercorn sauce...which was very tasty and I cleaned the plate. Nice puddings too. Will visit again...but deliberately next time.

I stopped off there while on a two-hour journey from work. Most of the people there had booked tables for Christmas, and I was just there to grab a bite to eat, but the staff were so welcoming! The food was outstanding - just a burger with chips & salad plus a side order of onion rings, but everything was made to perfection. The price was very reasonable, and I hope to go again if given the opportunity.

Lovely old fashioned pub. Good beer and cider. Friendly staff and two welcoming log fires. Food was good and plentiful. We will return for future family meetings. The only downside was pre Christmas works gatherings. Very noisy. Will pick other times of the year for our next meet up.

Popped in for lunch after searching for a pub on the way home from Oxford. This was in the middle of a little village which was lovely driving through. Food came out very quickly, generous portion sizes and most importantly tasted good! We did find the price a bit higher than what we're used to! For a Thai green curry, gammon egg and chips, a coke and a lime and soda we paid £40. Especially as it was no table service, staff not very talky we thought price was high. Sitting in garden was lovely and nice to see dogs allowed and treats for the dogs. -1⭐️ for the price -1⭐️ as we like getting to chat to staff a bit more in new places

Booked Sunday lunch for 6 people and we all had a fantastic meal coupled with great service. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we had no complaints about the quality or portion sizes. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Excellent real food (not mass produced off site) brilliantly cooked, perfect portion size , ambiguous but for me perfect. Indoor outdoor ambience achieved by simple natural styling with excellent service without pomposity.

Can't comment on the rooms as I didn't stay, but the food is always great and the staff are always very friendly. Very welcoming pub

An excellent lunch at the Plum Pudding. ( formerly the Admiral Benbow. When it wasn't particularly salubrious) Lunch for 2, 1 alcoholic, 1 non-alcoholic drink, 1 desert came to under £50. Recommended.

A little gem I'm happy to share with you. Surprisingly very good local beer! Also serves tea & coffee nicely. A proper local. Can get noisy but a nice clean place. I will return for a meal soon.

Absolutely appalling customer service and attitude. I would not recommend this establishment. 45 minutes after ordering our main courses the waiter arrived with 3 of the five dishes advising they no longer had the other 2 and would we like to order something else. I have worked in hospitality and customer care for 30 years and am aware things can go wrong but the way the problems are handled is key. If the manager, landlord or chef had of come out and explained the situation and that there had been a mistake it could easily have been resolved and we could have enjoyed our birthday meal and eaten together, instead they sent the poor 16 year old part time waiter to the table who was not in a position to handle the situation. I asked the waiter if the manager would come and see us. He didn't arrive so 10 minutes later I asked again. Once again no one came to see us so I approached the person who had earlier welcomed us and sat us to our table. I asked why he had not come to see me and he said because he was busy and couldn't let people wait, (there were 9 people sat in bar, it wasn't busy), he then proceeded to ask why I had a problem and tried to fob me off saying it was because all the food they serve there is fresh ( which obviously doesn't explain the way its served, or not, in this case). There was not the slightest hint of an apology or explanation. When pushed he said he would remove the food we did not have from the bill (why thank you ! ). Becoming agitated with his lack of empathy and refusal to admit there had even been a problem coupled with some yokels jeering I rejoined our party, we paid and left. I can honestly say I have never experienced anything like it in hospitality and would never set foot in the establishment again which is a shame as the food that came didn't look as bad as the attitude. The whole situation could have been avoided with the manager coming to the table , advising there had been a problem , apologising asking what we would like instead and maybe even offering a bottle of wine or another drink whilst we waited (probable cost to the pub of a fiver). Instead all we got was the manager hiding in the bar then refusing to admit there was a problem, hence causing an argument. Go this establishment at your peril. The Fish and The Swan just up the road are friendly and hospitable and serve great food. Choose them.

A great local pub, nice pub food and a good selection of beers. I especially enjoy the Plum Pudding Stout. Had a burger tonight. I was very happy, great food. Update: Tonight I had the Gammon Steak, it was great and the Beer battered Haddock is also very good.

'Proper' Country Pub with log fire

We had a large party booking for xmas dinner, the welcome was lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The meal was delicious, and enjoyed by all.

I visited recently for a work lunch and I could not fault it. The location is lovely, parking is limited outside but there is overflow parking further down the main road, it’s a short walk. The pub is inviting and warm but not too stuffy. The staff were all friendly, inviting and very attentive especially for a large table. We barely had to wait for our food, once everyone had arrived and got their drinks, our starters were arriving, this was the same for our main and dessert. They timed it all very well. The food itself was lovely, great portion size and overall felt freshly cooked and like homemade food. Have already recommended to several people and would certainly visit again!

My friends and I decided to go out for dinner and also to watch the rugby at The Plum Pudding as it’s somewhere we’ve not been for years, sadly we won’t be returning after the way we were spoken to by the landlady! Two of us had a curry, this is priced at £17 and I can honestly say it was awful, the chicken was dry and there was virtually no tikka sauce, I personally think it had been cooked and heated up as the chicken was tough and the whole dish was bland, certainly not worth £17! another person in the group had fish and chips and when trying to cut into the batter some of the food ended up on the floor due to it being so over cooked, we asked to speak to the manager as we didn’t feel we could carry on eating the food, the landlady came over and asked in a very abrupt manner “ what seems to be the problem “ so we told her about the lack of sauce, the dry chicken and the over cooked fish, which I must add had hardly any fish in it, she was so rude didn’t give us the chance to say anymore and swiftly grabbed our plates and said “ I’ll take it off the bill and do you want anything else “ all said with such an attitude! I did ask her why was she being so rude to which she replied I’m not at all, what else do you want me to do ? To this I simply said just stop being rude to us, she then leant over to another member of the group and grabbed his plate almost hitting his wife in the face with it, obviously the landlady didn’t like the fact we had complained, we weren’t rude at all we just didn’t think it was right to have food of such a low standard served to us, it’s such a shame too because we all like the pub and the atmosphere & the spacious feel to it.

Meeting friends in Oxford. We arrived after a lengthly journey to a lovely reception. Shown to our room which was larger than expected with a modern shower room, kingsize bed and a seating area The staff were excellent from the owners to the bar staff The whole experience was 5 stars Highly recommended

I stayed just one night at this oddly named pub whilst I was taking photographs at the remarkable Didcot railway centre which is about a 15-minute drive away. Located in a quiet area with easy parking outside I found the place to be both friendly and well equipped for an overnight stay. My bedroom was a reasonable size and had recently been refurbished. There was a desk for working, a flat screen TV, good Wi-Fi, a comfortable bed, hanging space and a chest of drawers, and a very modern bathroom with a walk in shower. I did not eat at the pub nor have breakfast there in the morning, but as an overnight stay it worked really well for me and I would stay there again if I was in the area.

A two night stay in a well patronised pub off the main road. Lots of space both in and outside. Serves cask beers and cider and is a CAMRA pub. Good food. Our room had a fridge in which our breakfast choices were kept and replenished. There is no cooked breakfast option but we were happy with a choice of cereals, croissants , yogurt. There was also some sliced meats, cheeses and orange jiuces. A bowl of fresh fruit and one of those George Clooney coffee thingies was fine for us. Good sized walk in wet room shower

A little gem of a place. A local and professional vibe - a gorgeous outdoor terrace and garden with then quirky indoor ye olde pub vibes. Try the local ciders, but don’t try too many of you want to walk out of there upright!

My partner and I, along with some family, stayed at the Plum Pudding in September 2023 whilst attending a wedding nearby. The rooms were fantastic and the best rooms I've stayed in within a pub. Our room was clean, and fresh, and looked new. The en suite bathroom was a good size, excellent powerful shower, with toiletries too. The bed was comfortable and of good quality. There was a kettle, coffee machine and mini fridge in the room, which was stocked with items for a continental breakfast including croissants, cheeses, fruit, fresh milk, orange juice, bottled still and sparkling water, and a selection of sliced meats which was a superb touch. A brilliant location for us, but also a lovely area. We have eaten at the Plum Pudding previously with family and the food and service was fantastic, though we didn't eat on this occasion. There is also a separate entrance to the rooms, and so returning after the pub closed was not an issue. All the staff we encountered were very friendly, including the brunette lady cleaning the rooms in the morning, asking us how our stay was. It was incredibly hot weather during our stay due to the 30°C heatwave, but we had fans in the room, and the staff did what they could to keep the rooms cool prior to our arrival, and despite the heat we slept very well. Overall, a fabulous place to stay, and we would highly recommend to those considering it.

The service and the amazing staff are so welcoming, I highly recommend this pub. The food is fantastic and they accommodate small portions for children and the bonus you can take dogs in too!! I've been back twice from one year to the next and the food has been brilliant each time.

Have now visited this pub 7x over the last two years during Truck Festival. Was recommended by a fried who lives locally, he knows a good pub. Decent selection of beers and ciders, friendly staff and a nice outdoor space with good size cover if the weather changes. Our last visit, three out of four of us had the roast pork for lunch, we all agreed it was probably the best roast pork each of us have had. Will be visiting again next year.

My mate and I booked two rooms for six nights. All I can say is what a find. The rooms were lovely and clean and had everything you need for a comfortable stay. The breakfast is left in the fridge in each room and there is a Nespresso machine. This is perfect for us as we were getting up each morning to go and photograph RIAT. We ate every evening at the restaurant and the food was superb with a sensible choice. A great choice of beets, wine and cider. Staff were excellent especially Casey the manager. Looking forward to 2024.

We booked two room here for six nights so we could attend RIAT. The rooms were superb, clean and all the facilities needed. It is a quiet village with a real feeling of being a temporary local :-) We ate at the pub every night and was never disappointed with a good choice of home cooked food. The sausages and mash were superb. The momager (Casey) was fantastic, knowledgeable and very professional. A slight challenge is parking, but there are options and this never posed any detriment to our stay. Will be booking for 2024.

Fantastic little pub, as a local resident who lives a two minute walk away I often come here for a swift pint. Great beer and outstanding service, Casey the front of house manager is one of the best I have encountered in terms of customer service . Would strongly recommend!

Apart from the parking.....or lack of (but understand there is an overflow car park which I missed), this is a cute little pub that does great food.

Highly recommend A1 Stayed for a birthday treat - coincided with a “beer festival” which was fortuitous! The staff were amazing, especially Joules & Nikki 👍 and the food & beer spot on.

We picked the Plum Pudding at random as a stopover on our way home from a week's holiday up country, and very glad we did. The service was great and the staff extremely helpful - Nicki in particular was a credit to her employers. The room was clean and well laid out with an en-suite wet room, plus a continental breakfast in the mini-fridge. There was also a coffee maker and the usual kettle. Our evening meal was delicious and reasonably priced, with a stunning cheese board to follow. They had a beer festival on, so the place was busy, but there was no waiting or congestion, and we were royally looked after. Would definitely stay again, it's a very friendly and comfortable venue with great food.

Sunday 24th March 1.30pm with friends & family 10 of us including children . Arrived without booking & we were greeted very well .. considering there were 10 of us .. prompt ordering of drinks & food .. all sunday lunch orders … the food came out hot & tasted fresh & meat cooked perfectly .. as the main was so lovely we decided to stay for pudding & we made a great decision to stay as the desserts where amazing presentation was beautiful .. well done chef & our waitress was prompt & always around should we needed anything .. polite & assertive …. will 100% be back .. amazing food amazing service .. thank you from the Bairds & Beal family :)

Went for my 65th birthday meal the service was quick and the food was hot and excellent would certainly go again I did think this was where the pudding club was bit lacking in the choice of puddings

Ok you were busy but serving food with plastic is not a spice anyone should be served. This was raised at the time but was instantly dismissed. Needless to say will not be returning.

Had our young Labrador with us. Seated very quickly by a very friendly server and given menus. Prompt order taken for drinks, ordered food bit of a wait but it was lunchtime. Food very good with well sized portions. Would recommend booking or get there early for lunch. Would recommend the Plum Pudding.

I never normally leave reviews but feel compelled to do one today. We went for Sunday lunch at thr Plum Pudding, which was really nice. It's not somewhere I hear much about but I passed it in the week and thought... why not go there....

Enjoyed a Christmas Dinner with some like-minded CAMRA friends. Extremely good value and the venison was to die for.
