The best restaurants serving British food in South East

Nipped in here for a cold drink whilst in Oxford town-centre. Ordered on the app and noticed some decent offers. The staff could be a bit happier, but you know exactly what you're going to get in a Wetherspoons.

My partner and I went in on Saturday 20th July to escape the busy food festival happening in southsea . There was one miserable looking women serving so took quite a while to get served. A few draught beers including Guinness wasn’t available so opted for Neck Oil didn’t realise it was £7.20 a pint !! I thought it was a bit steep ! As it had started raining we decided to get another drink no one serving at all at the bar , people were waiting , another couple left and so did we .

Service was extremely slow and food was dry and overcooked. I don’t know if it has something to do with the fact they’ve recently reopened but I won’t be returning.

We had a lovely time at the Poplar Farm, went for dinner Jess our waitress was so nice and helpful, was a lovely experience thank you

Always look forward to our meals at The Firecrest and today was no exception. Our waitress Sue looked after us very well as usual and our food was delicious. We look forward to our next visit in a few week's time.

Found the hotel easily from bus and managed but walked the wrong way back to stop. It's very handy for X 80 and A bus. Bus to Dartford, Bluewater and Lakeside.

I had lasagne, which I found very watery in taste and runny in texture, my granddaughters found the pizza very bland, the best parts were the salad and ice-cream, the staff were very pleasant and attentive.

Family meal of 7, good service and food. Advised as we ordered maybe a wait for food and told how long. But food arrived all together and in half the time we were advised. All in all good service and well cooked food.

We stayed one night bit dated room was clean shower room needed a bit of a makeover there is a guest folder with a menu in but it's not the one they use it's out of date it was so hot asked for a fan but was told they don't do them ! Nice food tho wouldn't stay again for the price !

Disappointed. Not Been here for some years . Medium sized group but waited over an hour for food after ordering. Food ordinary .Staff at table pleasant and did their best

We went to The Chequers this weekend and had a truly delicious meal. The staff were friendly, attentive and professional and the food was excellent. A proper pub with a touch of class, we loved the atmosphere, the charming courtyard garden and the dog-friendly, family vibe. Initially, I struggled to decide what to opt for, as the menu offered a tempting and varied selection - each dish sounded so appealing. I went for the Schnitzel and did not regret it. My meal was rich, tasty and generously portioned. Me and my husband were feeling greedy so we shared the sticky toffee pudding which was divine. Would definitely go back. Highly recommended, excellent value for money. What a find!

Hidden charges! Never been to a pub with a VAT Charge added on, the prices were on the menu so why was VAT ADDED! Plus a tip charge that wasn’t asked I’ve been to many many pub, but never had a VAT CHARGED EVER.. please can you refund this to me .. I have added a photo of my receipt..

Very pretty exterior and plenty of parking. Inside it's vast. Had booked a table so introduced ourselves at the bar and shown our table. Server said she'd be 'right back' to take our drinks order. 5 minutes later...... nothing. Husband goes to the bar No-one behind it. Husband then picks up a menu and wine list. We wait. Eventually we get food and drinks. Compared to our Fuller's local on the banks of the Thames this place is expensive. Location good. Food adequate. Service poor.

Roast was tough, dry and chewy. Between us, we had pork belly, chicken, beef and lamb. All of us was tough/dry. Roast Potatoes had been pre cooked and sat under heat lamp and were dry and flavourless. Yorkshire’s dry and chewy. So disappointing. Very flavourless too, really lack of seasoning. It never used to be like this. Starters, and the Kids meals were good (fish and chips/burgers). On a plus side, the table service was good. Play area is great, especially the climbing trees in the bushes. Desserts and drinks all good. If we went back; we would definitely not order a roast dinner.

Standard Beefeater fare. Been here a number of times to make use of various deals and food and staff quality always good. Easy parking and not too bad to get to despite usual Oxford traffic.
