The Cotswold Arms in West Oxfordshire

Hidden charges! Never been to a pub with a VAT Charge added on, the prices were on the menu so why was VAT ADDED! Plus a tip charge that wasn’t asked I’ve been to many many pub, but never had a VAT CHARGED EVER.. please can you refund this to me .. I have added a photo of my receipt..

Possibly the worse experience I have had in England. I understand this area is a busy tourist town but the staff can use a lesson or two in warmth and friendliness to customers. Food choice and cocktail choices are limited. The service was mediocre at best. We did not feel welcomed or appreciated. Not sure if it's because of our race or they just simply don't care.

Needed a bit to eat to get us through to next day not a lot of choice in Burford high street early Sunday evening but went in here. Very quiet but got some food I opted for Cajun chicken burger a bit bland and fatty bacon nice fries though wife had steak and ale pie which she throughly enjoyed reasonable prices for area drinks good which we finished outside on a nice evening looking down Burford high street toilets for me were bad didn’t look or smell like they had been checked all day staff who served us polite and attentive but I wouldn’t return

Good selection of food available. Make sure you check out the specials board on the bar as they have some good selections. We ordered a selection of sandwiches and the ribs/wings special that was on offer. The food was tasty.

Nice beer, nice garden lovely roast lamb dinner, reasonably priced, friendly staff...not our first visit - hopefully not our last.

Myself and my husband popped here on Sunday for lunch, I had the lamb roast which was a very generous portion, my husband had the Cajun chicken burger, we both enjoyed our meals, all well presented and we didn't wait too long, even though it was quite busy in there, all staff were welcoming and friendly, Becky was especially attentive. We will definitely go again.

Welcomed like a local, good food, great service. Always a good atmosphere, fab acts on the weekends, our 2nd home when we visit burford 😁. Kizzy makes a mean Black Russian cocktail 😋. The dogs get spoilt with a sausage treat too 🐾.

The Staff were brilliant shame about the landlady/manager sat in the bar discussing unpaid bills etc her dress code was inappropriate for a bar which is used by tourists like us. She was sat on a table for 8 when there were people looking for somewhere to sit not good

Bank Holiday Monday and Burford was teeming with tourists. I remembered years ago sitting beside a roaring fire in winter in an old English pub: the Cotswold Arms. So I thought I would go back and relive the memory. We sat in the bar and the first warning sign was the deafening music pumping out of the wall speakers, totally at odds with the character of the place. The bar girls were chatty (with themselves) and informed me of a half hour wait for food. My partner had ordered mackerel pate. We were told this was off so salmon was substituted. This is declared off too in the end, even if it was only 12.45. We had two baguette sandwiches. Mine looked distinctly out of sorts. The bread was anaemic looking, the bacon stone cold. As I ate it I thought this would not end well as it all tasted pretty raw. Sure enough next day of the holdiay was ruined, not just by the rain, but by a grumbling stomach. My partner had the same problem. In total contrast, on the Wednesday, we had lunch at Bitter and Twisted in Chipping Norton. This was a wonderful BLT sandwich all cooked to perfection and proper, caring and efficient service. Lesson to be learned here!

Meal was awful. We had chicken panini with chips. The chicken was dry and liked and tasted like it had been heavily sat on. The panini was dry, hard, burnt and extremely difficult to cut into! Was accompanied by chips that were equally as uninviting to look at. Salad would have maybe made the dish look a little better, but there wasn’t any. Toilets were filthy and smelly! The whole experience was disgusting and we couldn’t wait to leave!

Found this to be a lovely friendly pub/restaurant, so much so we went back there on our second evening for our main meal. The portion sizes were very good and we like our food !! We most certainly did NOT leave there hungry. Would highly recommend you check The Cotswolds Arms out if you are in Burford or nearby area.

The lunch was spot on, ale exellent and when partner wanted pepper.int tea went out and bought some because they had run out,when we tried to book cab to caravan site landlady said we wouldn't get one and gave us a lift back ,I call that brillant service thank you so much

Avoid!!!! The staff were rude and shouting and swearing in front of my son at lunchtime. Lots of bad language and bad attitude. Not the cleanest of places. Food Terrible and got charged a big service charge I didn’t realise until I got home which is my fault I suppose Saw the barman wipe a dirty lipstick wine glass after he’d poured the wine for someone and give it her. Not the nice country experience we expected Manageress has foul language and saw them putting mayo into bowls with their hands Shame, I never wrote bad reword but don’t want people To waste holiday time and money here We came away and we’re both sick

We came here today on Easter weekend, you could tell how popular the pub is as they were so busy. They managed to seat us without a booking with only a small wait. The food and service was great. They acknowledged the children with us and didn't act like they were an inconvenience like some pubs do. The waitresses working on Friday were so attentive and I can't find fault in anything during our time here. If you happen to visit the cotswolds then this is the place to go.

I wonder if the pub has changed hands since we last ate here in December. My steak and chips were fine although the mushrooms were very dry but my wife's roast potatoes were so hard we thought they must have been kept warm since lunchtime. I would have had a dessert but it took some uninterested staff member more than half an hour to clear the empty plates from the main course and we ran out of time. We've eaten here a number of times over the last 6 or 7 years but won't be going back.

Have been here many times for a meal and for drinks and will be back many more times. The staff are lovely and welcoming and the food is very tasty, with a great choice on the menu. Great place to go for a meal, or for drinks, with live music on a Friday and Saturday evening. Always a great atmosphere! The staff are great and accommodating, and the pub is dog friendly too, what’s not to like?! Would definitely recommend a visit here, whether you are visiting Burford or are a local to the area.

We visited this pub twice while we stayed in Burford. The women behind the bar were so unfriendly, no customer service whatsoever. Just grumpy and rude. Give it very wide berth

Excellent customer service in a relaxed manner. The staff could not be more welcoming. The bar area is comfortable and the restaurant area is relaxing. I would highly recommend visiting if in the area.

Firstly we can't fault the food . We sat in the bar rather than the restaurant . The guy behind the bar was more interested in chatting to his mates rather than serving . He gave me the wrong spirit even thou I told him twice what we wanted . Poor guy next to us must have waited 5 min to get his Guinness . Staff were laughing and swearing at the regulars ( with young children around ). Stayed 4 nites in Burford and we didn't return in here which was a shame .

This was our pub of choice on a 4 day break in the Cotswolds. Staying just over the road, we visited for a drink in late afternoon on our first day and ended up staying for dinner. The food was nicely prepared and presented and with so much choice on the menu we came back the following 3 nights. Service was very good without being over attentive and the staff were very chatty and welcoming. 3 ales on draft and when they cannot serve you one because they are cleaning the lines, then you know the beer is well looked after. An eclectic mix of customers with both locals and tourists mixing well.

What a welcome, Caroline, sofie and the handsome chef were so fun and lovely. Good was amazing. Really dog friendly, really made us feel welcome.

I’ve order the pan fried liver without knowing that it’s cooked in blood. I couldn’t have it so the they offered to take it off the bill. I didn’t aspect that at all! Thank you a lot, you’ve been fab xx

Dropped in on a Monday, not too busy but seemed to have a pleasant atmosphere. Lady behind the bar was very welcoming and we were soon sat down next to the fire and enjoying a well earned rest. This place appears to have so much going for it, just needs a bit of attention to detail. Detail such as soap in the toilet and not hearing the chef and another lady talking about others in negative ways. Do we really need to hear about the latest business venture of virtual assistant or how a customer/member of staff has a hair do like a bog brush? Come on take your conversation back of house, rather than front of house and instead of sitting around saying how busy you all are, go and check the toilets!

Wow!! What a fantastic Saturday we have spent in the Cotswold Arms. We had lunch, which was gorgeous. Lovely bowl of parsnip soup, and crusty bread. I ask the barmaid if she could book us for dinner, in a lovely spot to watch the singer. No problem she said. And we were then treated to a beautiful steak dinner and the amazing sounds of Rosie. Brilliant service and lovely people. Fantastic lively evening with great company, in the heart of the Cotswolds!! We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Been here many times with my partner or with family. Standard of service still the same… friendly and efficient, but have to say that felt a little neglected with the personal touch. I’m always greeted by Kizzy the landlady but she wasn’t around so was served by the staff on shift that day. They worked hard as it was busy with Christmas parties. But missed Kizzy not being there to chat too. That being said Lorraine and Danica looked after me very well, despite being rushed. I will return in the new year for my upcoming 70th birthday.

We came for a meal after a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park which is quite near. It was a busy Saturday evening. The pub was crowded which I felt a littel nervous about in view of Covid. Today we had a lovely lunch in Burford after a long morning exploring the Cotswolds. We brought our dog and he was made very welcome - the pub is very doggy friendly. The staff were just great - so helpful and friendly and knew what we needed when we needed it - despite a busy lunch rush. Portion sizes were huge and none of us finished the whole plate despite being a family of big eaters. We had the club sandwich, steak pie and fish and chips and all were tasty. Would recommend to anyone looking for a friendly relaxed pub lunch visiting Burford.

Awful! Awful! Awful! I ordered Chicken bacon clubman and my wife had fish and chips. Took forever to be seen to and forever for the food to finally arrive. My club sandwich had no chicken in it because the chef forgot to put it in, apparently he put double chicken in someone else's, so I was told by one of the staff. The bread seemed like defrosted tescos basics, stale and horrible.Fish n chips were frozen chips and fish was tasteless.Got a refund for the "clubman". Waste of time and money!

Visited a few months back, but I am always in, when I am down in Burford. Always a warm welcome, great tasting ales on, and really good reasonably priced food in generous portions. Recommended pub to visit!!

STAFF AMAZING ........We visited the Cotswald Arms on the way back from a lovely weekend in Bristol and was greeted by Vicky upon our arrival , a very friendly face. Whilst we were a little early for our booking she was very accommodating and said we could sit in the garden air she could arrange another table.We opted for the garden since it was a rare lovely sunny day, having soaked up the sun we headed in for our table booking and was greeted by Becs' (AKA Mom apparently ) as I heard the staff call her and rightly so, she was as attentive as your own Mother. We had a Celiac diner with us and whilst the menu was adequate Becs' was over very understanding , attentive , cheerful and made our visit and would totally recommend this venue for either a meal or just drinks , looking around at other customers being served and attended to it seems all the have the same good service ethic .........We didn't know it but it was steak night on the Saturday , what a bargain £10 for a superb meal ................Thanks from the Hunts for making our day.
