Great food delivered in a fine dining room, Breakfast menu was a little light on the number of dishes and to be honest paying £15 for an English breakfast was very expensive. We therefore expected a breakfast of high quality so we wouldn't feel hungry. Sadly the food was lovely but wasn't enough to salve our appetite. Very disappointed.

First visit here for lunch whilst en route to Winkworth Arboretum. Left with very mixed feelings. It's in a nice location with attractive interior decor but... Completely agree with other reviews regarding staff. The girl on the till came to take our order about 3 seconds after we'd sat down; she didn't seem to have a clue how to use the tablet for orders and spent most of her time standing around doing nothing whilst the guy in the kitchen did all the work. As a result we ended up having to wait ages for our food. We ordered quiche + 2 salads and sausage roll + 2 salads. The food was ok but charging £12 for that is outrageous! And to make matters worse, they allow dogs inside and my lunch was ruined by 3 tiny, stinky dogs arriving at the table behind me. In my view, dogs should not be allowed inside where people are eating - it is so unhygienic. Leave them outside! There are better, cheaper cafes around so I suggest you seek them out.

I visited with friends on a cycle ride for coffee and cake. Views are amazing and such a beautiful garden. Great choice of food, attentive staff and good service, prices very reasonable. We sat outside soaking up some late autumn sunshine and were reluctant to depart. Loved it here, highly recommended.

Dinner was nice but the slow service made the meal a bit of a bore to be honest. Breakfast on the other hand because it was buffet style was a pleasure and the ingredients all good quality. Looked like understaffed dining room was the problem with only one lady rushed off of her feet taking orders and clearing tables. Value was decent at £30 pp for a three course meal although the obligatory supplements were added if you wanted steak or lamb. Love the hotel but probably would seek to eat dinner out next time.

We had a super Sunday lunch here after strolling through the botanical gardens. the chef Michael Jackson (yes, really!) cooked a delicious roast beef for my husband & did a special sea bass for me. Very attentive service from friendly staff & really good wine by the glass in pleasant surroundings, with the sun streaming into the restaurant.

On 20th July 2024, my husband and myself had paid for ourselves and our two daughters to go on the Call The Midwife Tour - we were celebrating our eldest daughter's birthday and because we are all MASSIVE fans of Call The Midwife my husband and I bought the tour tickets and at the time of buying the Tour tickets we also bought the Cream Tea £6.95pp. We had bought the tickets weeks prior and were so excited when the actual day arrived. After the Call The Midwife Tour (which I do NOT recommend - see my review) finished we walked along to The Mess Deck Restaurant to enjoy our Cream Tea. We were greeted by a member of waiting staff. My eldest daughter showed her the tickets whilst saying "Hello, we are here for our afternoon Cream Tea!" and the waiting staff snatched the tickets out of her hand (literally!) then counted to confirm the number (4) and very heavily threw them on the counter and turned towards the fridge. I looked at my eldest daughter and she looked at me. (We are being served by the most unhappy, miserable, bad attitude member of waiting staff). The member of waiting staff turned to place - two at a time - our Cream Tea all on ONE tray. The waiting staff simply looked at my eldest daughter and said "hot or cold". My eldest daughter said "excuse me". The waiting staff then sighed, took a deep breath and repeated her question very angrily "hot or cold? do you want the scones warmed up or left cold?. My eldest daughter replied "hot please, thank you very much". The waiting staff then continued with our request and literally "threw" everything on the tray together. What a bloody mess! One strawberry fell on the floor for which my eldest daughter had to ask for another and when the waiting staff asked why, my eldest daughter said "because it fell on the floor" and the waiting staff was NOT happy with this and "huffed" whilst placing another one on the plate. As the tray was "overloaded" and "unsafe" to carry, my eldest daughter fetched another tray and split the Cream Tea in half. Well, bad idea, the waiting staff wanted us gone! As we picked up our trays the waiting staff said "we shut at 5pm and it is 4.30pm now. We said "OK" and found a table. Would I recommend Cream Tea - No Would I recommend The Mess Deck Restaurant - No Today was about celebrating our eldest daughter's birthday. Our eldest daughter had been saving for quite a while to go on Call The Midwife Tour and whilst booking for that we noticed Cream Tea for £6.95pp and thought - why not! birthday treat! My husband and I did pay for both events as her birthday present for which my daughter has since apologised for "wasting our money". What we have taken away from our day is the lasting memory of the waiting staff and the way in which she served us and again , our daughter has apologised for her too! All in all a complete waste of money!

Proper country pub , excellent variety of beers and ales from abroad and local breweries. Friendly atmosphere one of the best pubs in area. If you like traditional then this pub certainly ticks all the boxes .. would highly recommend.

We weren't made very welcome from the get go. As soon as we sat down to order, I was informed I could only have half a lager with my dinner instead of a pint I asked for because the manager had told her we could only have halves and single measures. When I asked why they told me it was company policy when dining with a small child. We just felt judged straight away, my burrito meal was tiny and I finished it before my wife's burnt pie and oven chips turned up. Absolutely appalling and has put a dampener on our stay at the premier inn. Hopefully the next Three nights are better but there is no way I am using that bar and restaurant again. Dreadful.
