This was not a pleasant experience. My ‘spaghetti’ with prawns and chilli arrived floating in sauce (more like a soup), the spaghetti was cut up, a spaghetti being about an inch long. There was no prawn in sight (most probably blended into the sauce). It would need a spoon to eat it. It looked like food for a toddler or out of a tin. I have never felt that I had to reject a dish but this was definitely one of those moments. I am a friendly person and I always appreciate good staff but the waitress frankly couldn’t give a dam. My husbands Wagu beef burger was burnt but he decided it was edible and didn’t complain. I was so shocked at what I had been served that I decided to skip dinner. The food is definitely a conversation topic but not in a good way.

Food was poorly cooked and not as described on the menu. It felt like they had run out of ingredients and thought they could get away with serving up any old nonsense. It was obvious from our talk with the manageress, that the restaurant was poorly managed which was a pity as the waiting staff were so nice.

Expensive for what it is - had the burger cooked to death and very small for the price. £15 very expensive for what it was. Son had pie and mash - was ok but again very expensive for what was served up. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Would have stayed for desert but they were expensive and probably of a similar standard. Always think you get what you pay for. On this case 2/5 for value and quality I am afraid there are far better places out there. Hever Hotel - better burger better quality just excellent. Need to improve to even think about coming back.

We had afternoon tea here for two before a spa day. The scones were lovely and big. They were warm which was excellent. We also had cakes which were delicious. The only downside is that the sandwich selection was not that great (cheese and pickle, salmon, cucumber and ham) and the bread tasted a bit stale. Service was good but we went there when there was only to other tables occupied.

Very hit and miss both food wise and service. Try to avoid on race days as everything seems to go downhill then. WE have used this restaurant several times over the years and sometimes you can have a really nice meal there with very good service. Other times both food and service leave a lot to be desired. But it is convenient being the hotel's restaurant and anywhere outside the hotel is a long walk or taxi ride away

Stayed for two nights and ate in here the first night as we were to tired to go in to town after our journey. Staff were friendly, and often asked if everything was ok. My husband had steak, which was cooked to his liking without a problem or a comment - which often happens elsewhere. I did feel the presentation of his dish was lacking. It’s unusual these days to see chips on a plate with the meat at the side, the old fashioned way. I ate chicken roulade which was nicely presented. My real complaint was an overpriced bottle of Marlborough, which wasn’t cold enough, had to ask for an ice bucket instead of the narrow cooler which doesn’t make the wine colder; that didn’t go down too well, asked for more ice from a gentleman who appeared to be a general manager, he obliged no problem. The waitress said they don’t sell much of this particular bottle so it will have been in the fridge for a while: the waiter gave me the usual response of ‘its been in the fridge’ he also said it’s 7 degrees. In my book that’s not cold enough. Didn’t eat breakfast as we prefer to have a walk and find a cafe; which we did in Lingfield.

We must have caught them on a bad night. Got our order wrong - when the wrong dish arrived the manager tried to blame us before double checking with the waitress who took our order, then we could hear the manager grumbling about us to other staff. We were offered free drinks that then appeared on the bill. The steaks we were served were more gristle than meat, one meal came out 10 minutes before the other and everything was over-priced. Really disappointed.

We made a stop for a burger in the bar. The personal in the bar was friendly and sweet. After we waited for about 40 minutes the burgers was served burned, cold and greasy. We sent them out and got new once after 10 minutes. This time not burned but real hard fried with a crust. Paying about 15 pounds for a burger should get you a realt tasty one with a golden edge to it.

I was surprised at limited menu choice for dinner for large hotel chain. I didn’t like any of the starters or deserts and I am not a fussy eater. I ended up with a burger as that was the only thing I liked on the menu, it was very nice but I was expecting something a bit better for my evening meal. My husband had lamb which was Ok but not fantastic either. For some reason all the steaks had an additional £10 supplement don’t know why as they were only simple 8oz steaks not huge T bones or Wagu beef.

We arrived 20:30 ordered at 20:40 and had to chase the one course we had ordered at 21:15. No bread was provided and staff were unapologetic about the delay. It was clear that the order had been lost as the food did not arrive until 21:35. A 20% discount was taken off the bill but this was not explained so I assume this was for the delay. The location is excellent with views across the race course. Food was very good except for the Caesar salad which was an insult. The salad was £10 for a plate of lettuce and some parmesan shavings...oh and the stub of the lettuce. When we asked where the rest of the salad was we were given some tiny croutons...even though it says on the menu there should be bacon included and we could barely see the dressing. However, the other food items on the menu were very good so we would recommend just avoiding the salad. We waited over 40 minutes to be served the salad and we had to wave madly to get service when we needed something. Dinner service was much better as they had more staff. But if they want to charge the prices they are they need to fill glasses to the top and not just over half full. Breakfast was very nice and the service then was excellent.

Having stayed at the hotel the same time last year for my wife's birthday and having enjoyed the racing and the ability to watch from our suite balcony (despite a very average dining experience and a disaster of a breakfast) we decided to revisit to celebrate the same occasion this weekend, travelling from Dubai where we live for the occasion.I called the hotel the day before and requested (and received) the same room as last year and tried to reserve a table for lunch to enjoy a nice meal prior to the racing but was told the restaurant did not open for lunch and instead there would be bar food available only. We looked at the menus online and felt that the evening one seemed good enough to mark such an occasion. So we decided to forsake the musical entertainment and book a romantic meal for dinner, post racing. On arriving in the room we found a letter warning guests about the invasion of wasps this year. We took note and proceeded to the bar for a snack. With all tables taken inside we sat outside and, as promised, we were inundated with unwanted waspish guests. We live in an old house and have many a nest each year but we had never seen so many in one small area. Why did the hotel not take steps with either a pest control expert (as we employ at home) or place some of the excellent wasp catchers sold by any reasonable DIY store? We finished our lunch, having exercised our arms in windmill fashion shooing away pests, and headed to our junior suite, number 320, overlooking the finishing straight.10 minutes before the first race I called room service to try and order a bottle of champagne. 10 minutes later and having spoken to 6 different people I finally made myself understood and said drink was on order. 40 minutes and two races later the champagne arrived, slight raising our dampened spirits. We enjoyed the rest of the card from the room and headed to dinner at 8.30pm. Despite calling the previous day and making a reservation we were told there was no such booking in the system. No matter, there were tables available. We were sat at our table and presented with the menu the restaurant manager. Having already seen the same menu at lunchtime I requested the correct, evening menu. I was advised that this WAS the menu for the evening. I politely stated that we had seen a very different format on the website, one that had restaurant dishes rather than bar dishes but again, The manager was adamant that this was the correct menu and that we should realize that the format can change.A while later a very helpful and polite waitress came to take our order. For one last time I asked why there were no steaks available, being a fairly standard fayre and what with the restaurant being called 'Cyprium GRILL'. The waiting staff advised that there was a problem in the kitchen and as a result they could only offer the lunchtime menu. Had The manager told us this we would have accepted it as these things happen. But the fact that the Manager lied directly to us made us very angry and cast a shadow over the rest of the evening. Being the only available place to eat without having to leave the hotel (and Country Club) we ate.We finished our meal and asked another waiting staff for the dessert and coffee menu. She could not speak English or understand so she asked a colleague to serve us. We ordered two coffees and two liqueurs, amaretto and brandy. We received one coffee, one liqueur coffee and a large Bells whisky! The waiter could not understand what had gone wrong so we accepted the coffees and sent back the whisky. After a somewhat deflating birthday meal we retired to bed but not before ordering breakfast.8.20am and breakfast turned up on time. Or rather one did. Despite clearly writing '2' on the card they had got something else wrong. My wife ate that whilst I waited 15 minutes for mine to turn up.Thank you Marriott for making a huge effort to spoil my wife's birthday and for ensuring our travel from Dubai was pointless given the exceptional service we receive at home compared to this hotel. However, and thankfully, we decided we would try and see through the 'Fawlty Towers' experience and we enjoyed ourselves despite of the hotel.Suffice to say we will likely try and find an alternative venue for the same occasion next year.

Had the misfortune of eating here twice during a business trip and both encounters were lack lustre with pretty shoddy service (drinks orders failing to be realised, erroneous items appearing on bill etc) and terrible quality food (produce bad and suspect most of it bought in prepared) at hiked prices. The tables were in my opinion not clean, but sticky and greasy. They had been wiped down but not cleaned. Resting on them your arms and hands would stick. Not pleasant. Wine list is average and white wine arrives warm. I wonder if someone is putting the wine in a chiller set for red wine. Every bottle was delivered warm. Last orders are 930 which is a pain if, as my group were, you are working on business and arrive back late. There seems to be a number of local pubs near by it may be better to try these instead.

We have stayed in the Marriott Lingfield hotel on several previous occasions but generally go into the village to eat. Tonight we decided to try the Cyprium, mixed feelings on the experience.Firstly I have to say the food was very good, tasty and good portion sizes. My wife and I however only had a main course.I ordered the Beef Stroganoff and my wife a sirloin steak, now here is the first slightly negative point, when ordering her steak my wife was told that as she had ordered "medium to well done" it would be a 40 minute wait as the steaks were quite thick! Well unless they were grilling it with a box of matches or it was six inches thick how can cooking a steak take so long? Suffice to say it arrived 35 minutes later and was of normal dimensions! The other point with this restaurant is the atmosphere, there is no ongoing service, for example we ordered a bottle of still water, this was put on the table without removing the top or pouring. There was no attempt to top up our wine glasses throughout our meal (all though in fairness sometimes it can be a pain when restaurants do this). Finally, the atmosphere, this restaurant is like eating in a large canteen.....long tables, lots of noise, no background music.......sorry not for me...next time it's back to the restaurants in the village.

This review refers to the Bar rather than the grill. My husband ordered a chicken burger and got a beefburger but having already waited 40 minutes for it to arrive decided to eat it, he said it wasn't the best he had tasted but was OK. I initially order Thai Green chicken curry only to be told I was given an out of date menu and it was Tandoori chicken and rice. This, I ordered, what came out was a piece of chicken with some type of paste spread on top which was definately not tandoori and tasted weird. I ate two bites of it and discovered the middle of the chicken was cold, so I left it all. I complained to the staff and as it was now after 9pm I didn't want anything else. Within one hour I had gripping pains in my stomach and spent most of the night on the toilet!
