Had a really good experience here. Met a mate for a beer & a chat, plus lunch, midweek, it was quiet the day we were there (which was perfect as we had lots to discuss). Friendly and down-to-earth, a VERY nice pint of ESB, and good food. Proper no-nonsense pub, you get a nice smell of fresh beer the moment you step in - great!

Best place to get a pint of line cleaner in caterham, or if food is more to your fancy you can get the world's most expensive freezerburned microwave slop. The decor is lovely, but ruined by the filth and the landlady's attitude.

I love this pub, it’s everything I want a pub to be. It’s a Fullers pub so has decent beer and often with one or two guest beers. It dates back to the mid-1800s and is staffed by people who understand beer and bars. Some live music on the weekends but there is a full itinerary of events listed in the bar itself. Always a warm welcome with a variety of seating areas and a small free carpark at the back. My only criticism is a lack of pork scratchings but that won’t hurt my waistline or stop me going!

If you're into adorable pubs that double as a museum of quirky features, this place is your jam! The lunch? Well, let's just say it won't win any Michelin stars, but it's like that B-list actor who always delivers a decent performance. And let's not forget the real MVPs here: the beers and ales on tap. They're like the supporting actors stealing the show! Overall, a solid option for when you're thirsty and in dire need of some 'museum-grade' cuteness.

On the recommendation of a very good friend, we visited the pub for Sunday Lunch. We were pleasantly surprised on just how good the Sunday Lunch actually was. A full and comprehensive Sunday roast was presented that had all that you would wish for with ample servings of roast meat and the vegetables you could wish for. The meat and vegetables were good quality and well prepared that nothing was left on our plate! Combing a reasonable price with attentive service, this is a great place to visit for Sunday Lunch. We will certainly return.

Everyone I meet seems to say this is the best pub in Caterham and, given the competition, it’s difficult to disagree. It has a charm which the others lack. I’ve always found it slightly awkward but perhaps that’s its charm. The main bar faces the High Street and the area in front of it is strangely narrow. So if the pub’s really busy it can be difficult to get served. However the bulk of the drinking area is behind the bar: a cosy area by the fireplace, an odd central area where everyone seems to sit in a row and then a fairly large hall-like room with dartboards. I guess the latter serves as a Public Bar. Finally there’s a step or two down to more tables right at the back near the door leading to an outside gazebo and the car park. The areas behind the bar are served by two quite small hatches, so the bar staff have to maintain good peripheral vision to ensure they keep the whole pub happy. I’ve always found not being able to see the handpumps a bit of pain in the backside TBH (there is a sign now). I has traditional décor for traditional pubs. Old oil paintings of generic kings and generic queens, royal family trees and loads and loads of Fuller Smith & Turner breweriana. The pub is a archetypical old style Fullers house, reminding of the days when Youngs had all the large hotel-like roadside inns and Fullers had the cozy backstreet locals. They always have three or four Fullers ales on and one guest (frequently from “Gales” which is of course just Fullers who bought up Gales in 2005 and bulldozed the brewery in 2006. Shocking. Anyway, it the favoured pub of the older Caterham drinking set and rarely seems to change much.

Not a very welcoming environment. Staff were very straightforward with a stern straight forward question. What are drinking. No Hello or small talk, only an order to make sure I keep my Assistance Dog on his leash. No decent Lagers like, Fosters, Stella, or any other favourite British public House traditional lagers.. I definitely won't be going back to that miserable environment.

My wife and I came in here for a few Friday night drinks before going to the Indian restaurant nearby. It was busy when we arrived at around 6.45pm, which was a good sign. Before we ordered our drinks, we looked around to see where we could find somewhere to sit. All was fine until we entered the room at the back (where the darts board is) and were immediately greeted by hostile stares from a group of men sitting at the back of the room. It was like something out of a sinister film; clearly this was an area for regulars only and they didn’t take kindly to us. Understandably, we elected not to sit there and instead took the one free table in the adjacent room, ordered our first drink and got on with our evening. All was well until about an hour later when our conversation was rudely interrupted by the sudden arrival at our table of a man (tall, dark haired,in his late 30s/early 40s, wearing work trousers with holster pockets), who leant over my wife and asked her aggressively “have you got a problem with my girlfriend? She says you have looked at her twice in a snobby way”. Both she and I informed the guy that we had no idea what he was talking about (which is true). The man said “well she doesn’t lie”, before returning to join his group in the room at the back. Thereafter, several of his mates came in to the room to have a look at us, presumably checking that 15 or so blokes had the ability to overcome a man and woman, both in their 50s, if it came to it. Understandably, my wife and I were both shocked and stunned at such behaviour and we decided to leave immediately. For the avoidance of doubt, we are not snobs, we did nothing to offend anyone and we regularly visit pubs of varying shapes and sizes, both locally and in other areas of the country. We remain gobsmacked that establishments like this one actually exist in this day and age and that Fullers want anything to do with it. Shameful.

Almost 40 years ago, I met my husband when I was working behind the bar in this pub, and we held our wedding reception there 10 weeks later. On a recent family visit, we just had to spend an evening here: the first time I'd been back for decades. But the pub had the same lovely, warm, friendly atmosphere that it did all those years ago, and I immediately felt totally at home. How many pubs can you say that about these days? There were eight of us in our party, plus one very fluffy Samoyed dog, who was immediately made to feel welcome (even though it was a very busy Saturday night). hopefully, we won't leave it so long before we visit again!

Went shopping here instead of the usual Priory Farm. Took and aubergine of the shelf and my hand went straight through it. Rotten to the core. Tried to communicate this to the girl behind the counter and she was unable to understand. The guy who sometimes does the car park intervened and got cloth and towel. Other veg was sub par and some were certainly past consume date. I’ll stick to Priory Farm and Veasey & Sons who have their pitch outside.
