We got the serving times wrong and arrived late for lunch. The staff went out of their way and served us anyway. The food and drinks were utterly delicious! A very relaxing and friendly atmosphere with great music too. Thanks!!

New Italian chef producing a small selection of great food. Try the Spaghetti Pescatora, or King Prawn Risotto or Rib-Eye Steak with Green Peppercorn Sauce.

My wife and I went here today for the first time. Although it's very local to us we didn't know it was there. What a hidden gem, absolutely beautiful location, spacious outside seating area and gardens. Super friendly staff, the food was really nice and the service excellent. We shall be going again.

This is but one the nearest pub to our home. My family went for a celebratory dinner which we all agreed was the most delicious local pub food we have yet enjoyed, in an area spoiled for the quality of its pubs offerings. The service was exemplary too.

I visited The Castle Inn as I was staying locally before flying out from Gatwick. The owner was very welcoming, I arrived too late to eat, but he went out of his way to offer alternatives. I will definitely go back when I next travel from Gatwick and make sure I go here to eat.

I have a food allergy and these people went above and beyond what they needed to do. The food was delicious and the service was brilliant. I'm surprised it was quiet for a bank holiday but it's tucked away. it's a great find so try it out!!

Popped in for a pint yesterday and ended up staying for dinner. Food was amazing with price yo match , great atmosphere, brill staff, deffo going back.

Passed by on motorbike, had a decent pint and one hell of a chicken burger.i wasn't expecting much as the burger was only £7 ( lunch time special) and honestly it blew me away!. Good quality, good size portion and great service ..one happy biker.... this pub also passes by the uk TET... so any TET riders passing by could do a lot worse for lunch...

Christmas lunch for 5 . Table in snug beautifully decorated. Louise cooked us a delicious 3 course meal . Very attentive. Jane was her usual hilarious self . All adding up to such enjoyable occasion .

I’ve been thinking about visiting this place for years and popped along today and I can say that I wasn’t disappointed the food is amazing and the staff are extremely accommodating. Love the local brew (lager) and will definitely be coming back soon with some more friends and family… bravo 👏

We had lunch here today and very disappointed by the wrap roast, for the price we paid you would expect to have a nicer meal. Staff is nice and friendly , but I wouldn't come back here again for food. Pretty awful food, also cold.

Nice little pub. Friendly atmosphere. Went there during the summer months just to try it out and ended up spending the day there. Went back last night for their New Year’s celebration and everyone had a fantastic time.

Great pub with cosy atmosphere, very friendly for dogs! Had some ciders and beers. Very friendly staff and manager/owner(?) who gave our two little dogs a lot of treats on the house. Big food menu too, would recommend a visit.

Myself and my family had a wonderful meal at The castle Inn for a birthday lunch. The food was melt in your mouth delicious, with my seafood brioche being particularly yum. We were looked after beautifully by all the staff, who all joined in our celebration when the cake appeared. Thanks again, we will be back soon.

Sausage was cold, chips hard, caramelised onion wasn't even caramelised they were boiled 😐 I'm a ex chef and know caramelised onion when I see and taste it 🤔 coleslaw was like red cabbage in white water 💧 overall pub was nice live music was great service was OK food was over priced but think they need new chef for the quality 👨‍🍳 👌🏻 👍🏻 only my opinion 👌🏻

Pub under new ownership. It is a limited but wonderful menu available until the kitchen has been renovated. Very friendly staff. They only use the farm next door for their meat. It's all grass fed and part of the pasture for life project. They get the vegetables from the local grocer, and the bread comes from chalk hills bakery. A lovely team of people engaged in reviving a village pub that in recent years had fallen on hard times.

We booked. Not very welcoming, sticky table and after 20 minutes we were told the kitchen was closed.

Four patrons in the place when I popped in, and not one spoke or even nodded as I popped my head through the door. The guy behind the bar had only lousy puns to offer, in lieu of a warm welcome. I left after two drinks, having been given the very distinct impression that I must have actually gate-crashed a private party. My nearby B&B hosts said that The Bell was a far better pub, a couple of miles further away.

lovely pub - we had the vegan curry, chicken kebab and burger and each of us really enjoyed our food. came in with our dog :) coffee at the end was yummy too, dairy free coffee options - will be returning.

Myself and partner visited yesterday for Sunday lunch. Pub is nice and friendly and clean. Unfortunately it went wrong from there. Only 2 out of the 4 roasts were available. Sat down at our table to order starters, only 2 out of 6 available. I ordered the soup, my partner nothing as what he wanted wasn’t available. We both ordered beef. Was sat there for around 15 mins when the girl behind the bar came with two roast beef dinners. Not sure what happened to the starter?? the beef was ok ( a bit chewy I’m places) but the roast potatoes were cold, so I left most of mine. My partner did eat most of his but had asked for his beef to be medium rare whereas mine was medium so maybe that would explain for mine being more chewy. We didn’t book this restaurant until the morning so alarm bells probably should have rung when we could have picked anytime we liked. We asked for the bill and the barman Lewis who was professional and apologetic kindly took a pint of beer off the bill but two roast beef dinners and a bottle of wine still came to £73.00 which is extremely overpriced! It’s a shame as it’s a nice setting, but unfortunately the food is overpriced. I feel sorry for the staff as I can imagine they probably get a lot of stick regarding the food

Very nicely decorated and friendly welcome and the music was good. It just went down hill from there! My starter was very good, l had the beetroot hummus, my husband didn't have a starter, so he was looking forward to his Seabass main meal. I received my main ( which again was very good) however the waitress then had to inform us that my husband's seabass was still frozen, so was not available!! He had to choose something that they could cook quickly because my main was getting cold. They produced sausage and mash which was cold with a very watery gravy which he couldn't eat!! I must say that it isn't the waitress's fault, the kitchen should have come out to explain what had gone wrong with our order. Needless to say we didn't pay for our meals, only our drinks. Such a shame .

We stopped here for lunch during a walk around Outwood. Looks like it has been recently refurbed with lovely interior and a pleasant decking area outside. We were really impressed by the food, it was really good. Would highly recommend 😊

Had dinner here tonight. Was a lovely atmosphere and the staff at the bar were nice and friendly. The decor was modern and outside was a decking area with an outside bar. We was entertained by a folk band who rehearse there every month - which was nice and entertaining! ;)

Unfortunately bad experience very bad service very slow and after waiting over 45 mins for mains ( plates were cold we ordered venison ) and then waiting for dessert , which never arrived ,we finally left without but were still charged full amount . This is our third attempt at what could be a good local ,as food is very good , but unfortunately we will not be visiting again

Don’t pay upfront, waited 30mins for food then only half of it turned up after asking a couple of times (the chicken burger) then the sweet potato fries turned up 10mins after drenched in oil, I tried to dab down with the napkin provided and had to tell staff that the food was inedible. An aggressive man then walked over and suggested he should charge me for the napkin that was now saturated in oil from the chips they expected me to eat. As I was sat their waiting there were other dishes being returned to the kitchen. Worst pub lunch I’ve experience and I lunch frequently.

Where to being, ok so the decor is lovely and very welcoming. Spacious for lots of people and good outside space as well. The toilets are very clean & well kept, then there is the hospitality although the staff are friendly, I'm afraid that's where it stops, the service if ordering food is nothing short of appalling we had a hr wait before the menus came then almost as long before the food arrive, now we weren't in a hurry as our daughter was singing in the band playing at the pub otherwise I would have left. Just atrocious service the staff friendly but with no service skills whatsoever. This was coping with a reduced set mother's Day menu only the food order was wrong when it arrived and so was the bill which we had to rectify as grossly overcharged. Definitely would not come back.

Booked for Mother’s Day lunch. Waited hit over 49 minutes before drink order was taken . Menu poor, food was cold and bland , very watery. Very disappointing

Glad to see this pub has reopened. The new owners are really lovely and went out of their way to chat to us and make sure we had a nice evening. Food and Wine lovely. Would definitely come back!

Homemade hummus and burger were obviously home made and delicious, the service was a little disjointed but we were the first customers in as soon as they opened. Overall a must visit.

Great atmosphere and delicious food. That was the best beef roast in my life . Staff was extremely friendly. Lewis the bartender made me feel like I m at home after busy day at work and Ilkan the owner impressed me with this beautiful menu. Well done definitely I m gonna go back . Best pub in town

We had lunch here yesterday. It's great that the pub has been reopened recently. It has been nicely refurbished, and feels cosy. The pub has a limited menu, but the food was generally very good. We had mains and pudding. We would definitely recommend: the pie, the bangers & mash, and the poached pear. More vegetables would be an improvement. The waitress was pleasant and helpful. However, you need plenty of time here, as the food is slow from the kitchen. It's great that it's not microwaved, but 75 mins for the mains to arrive is a bit long. But we will try it again because of the food and ambience. Hopefully it will be a bit quicker next time.

Pulled into the Castle a couple of weels ago on a Sunday for some lunch and looks like it has closed down

We joined two of our lovely friends at 17.30 Sat evening for dinner. Clean and friendly environment, with polite staff. We were served straight away. The menu is sensible, good choices without being overwhelming. We had burger, ale battered cod, chicken with a sauce, ham and egg etc. All of the meals were hot and tasty. For dessert was 3xice cream, waffle, chocolate fondue...again all scrummy. We were quite unsure of what to expect given the reviews we'd read before hand, but very glad we gave it a go. Definitely recommend and will most certainly return. Many thanks.

Lets start this review by saying that as a family we used this pub many times over the years when they lived close to Outwood, great food, good atmosphere lovely outdoor space, excellent menu. OK that was over 4 years ago. Had Groupon voucher so prompted us to returns as passing. Whater mistake to make. Limited menu, some not available, no atmosphere what so ever, you were not welcomed as owner/manage was more occupied sitting at bar on computer, no acknowledgement. Service was slow, getting worried by now as pub practically empty, fish tank contents, low water level and in the total darkness. Thought to play safe as other half decided to read Trip Advisor oh dear. Played safe both went for Whitebait OK, apart dip. Then fish and chips playing safe. Batter over cooked (fat to hot) on the outside, liquid batter still on the inside, fish not fully cooked, mushy peas rammed into tin, chips ok thought tom sauce would help but not good. Complained when they came to clear, said sorry, Yeh. Toilets dirty. OK paid bills at least Zero. Expect bank will call in loan shortly. Make nice house & garden.ps Adnams & gin & tonic safe

Fantastic pub, great food & service

OMG!!! what has happened to the Castle. This pub used to be fabulous. My partner and I thought we would treat ourselves to a meal there as we haven't been there in long time and were shocked how bad the food was. The service was slow; toilets dirty was such a dissapointment. We can honestly say it was the worst meal we have ever had!!!! What a shame.

Used to be a real foodies favourite but now reverting back to its traditional boozer roots.

Booked a table for the Xmas menu,turned up on time and took a table that was not decorated with crackers like the other diners.Ordered the starters only to be told that only one was on the set menu.The main course was all available,but the beef Wellington was as tough as old boots.The roasts were served with no stuffing,when questioned was told that they do not serve it.Again when we ordered the desserts from the Xmas set meal only one was available.The service is not of a high standard and the food is of a poor standard.This used to be worth a visit,but not any more

Went here on a Wednesday's night the pub was quiet with only a few locals/regulars sitting around the bar. We found a member of staff and informed them we had booked a table and they went off to check. We was shown to our table and given some menus. They do not have a children's menu but they informed us we can have a half portion of any adult meal. The order was taken and after a short wait the food was served. The food was ok but after reading many good reviews I felt a bit let down as it was not great and just ok. The lady that served us was great and very friendly and the place was in a good order. Just felt the food was disappointing.

Had a two course Sunday lunch, with small house red wine and a lager. The first course of smoked salmon and avocado on toast was ok, although I did have a piece of avocado skin in mine. My prawn Thai red curry was not great, as the prawns were served with their tail shells still on, and the rice was a solid lump. My partners fish and chips was rather greasy. There were several items on the menu that were not available.

I go The Castle in my lunch break and has a lovely atmosphere and the food is lovely. I highly recommend xx

Nice people and a wide menu of snacks and mains, but a lot was off the menu on the day ( including Harveys beer ) and all the food ( pies, beef, curry ) seemed to come off the shelf of a local supermarket

I recently celebrated my birthday at The Castle, as it's my local pub when I go home to visit family.

I booked a table for 5 people, We had not been here before so was looking forward to it.

Waited an hour for food which was then served on cold plates. Such a pity. Lady who took our order was extremely pleasant and very apologetic. Free drinks were offered for our wait and a desert to share. Chicken Korma was gorgeous and made from scratch, but barely warm.

It is very unlike me to rate a place so badly but don’t think I have ever been served a worse meal! Took my parents there for Sunday Lunch as a thank you for their recent help and it was truly awful.

Excellent meal cooked bespoke for me. Highly recommend

What has happened to the Castle! Haven't been there for about 5 years and boy has it gone downhill. Booked a table for Saturday evening and when we got there it was deserted. One guy drinking at the bar, one table just leaving and one table occupied. The place was dead.

Popped in on the off chance for a Sunday roast. Lovely welcome. Squeezed us in just before a table of 17 ordered. Fabulous roast, both the beef and lamb, loved the extra gravy boat served as standard. Great landlady! We will be back 😀

Had a Groupon deal for four people five of us went, the staff could not have been more helpful or polite, the food was good, ranging from Rib-eye steak to Fish and Chips, all cooked to perfection.

We've been living in the area for 35 years and been to all the pubs around. The Castle had always been a bit hit and miss over the years! But now the food was lovely and very plentiful and cooked well. I had the breaded mushrooms to start followed by chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce, wow! No room for dessert this time, as we will be visiting again to try them. Friendly staff. Great 'hidden pub.

Chose this pub because of the play area for children, was mortified to find the play area and outside eating area full of Dogs poo! The poor girl behind the bar had to pick up 7 lots and there was still more to be seen! Strangely enough not a dog in site, the pub was empty. Needless to say won't be going back.

We had a lovely leisurely lunch today at The Castle. The menu was good and everything we chose was beautifully cooked and presented . The staff were friendly and helpful. we will definitely be back. THANKYOU all.

Massive let down... Was out for my birthday with my family - took 1 hour 30 mins to get our starters - another 1 hour to get our mains - Some dishes were lovely, lasagna was rubbery and too oily. - Had hair in my dinner which did not impress - toilet had nothing to wipe your hands on, or hand dryer, on the floor they had a lamp shade, paint, walk paper and bag of clothing 🤔 Not impressed Staff that apologised to us as well as others complaining, it was accepted but ruined what should have been a good night out

We found this on the Tastecard website while in the area and called to book ahead as per the Tastecard rules. We were told they were very busy and had no availability. We decided to go anyway and chance it for a table as it was getting late and didn’t know anywhere else nearby to eat. However when we got there the place was empty with tables everywhere, even outside. We asked for a table for two and were seated immediately, so we had clearly been lied to. It was a shame as the food was actually very nice despite a cold bun on the burger however upon paying we mentioned we had a Tastecard and were told we cannot use it as we did not book ahead. We explained we tried to and were lied to, but this did not make a difference and no apology was made. I found this very rude. We payed the full price and ate our meals, however when leaving we were chased out in front of everyone and were told we had not payed. This was highly embarrassing, especially considering we had paid in full including drinks when ordering at the bar. The girl did apologise, however considering the way we had already been treated we were very disappointed and will not be returning. It is most unfortunate as it is actually a lovely place with lovely food.

Bought a Groupon voucher for a family meal, table booked for 7pm. We sat outside as lovely evening. The pub has a nice garden and lovely inside too but that's where the positives end. We didn't get our main course till 10pm. When it did arrive the bun to the burger was mouldy and the food as a whole was over cooked and cold. There were 6 chips to go with the burger and that was it. With the buns being mouldy and anything else tasting disgusting a full refund was given. The table next to us was served their food with a live blue bottle fly inside the burger bap. The pub was being run by one absolutely lovely young girl at the bar doing everything and one chef. The girl had to take all the complaints from everyone and I did feel very sorry for her. Not a pub I will be visiting again though, unless it's just for a drink.
