Fantastic service, nice decor and super tasty food! We were a group of 14 gay ramblers from London. We left super impressed and well fed. Becky the chef delivered a wonderful meal, service was excellent, fast and efficient with sense of humour. We'll definitely be back!

Visited for the first time to see a play in the upstairs room. We couldn’t have had a better night. The welcome from the moment we walked was great. The play was brilliant and the publican even gave us a lift to the station so that we made our train We would definitely make the effort to go again , if we heard about more plays or events and more often if we lived nearer

We arrived today at 11:30 following google timings and found the place closed. Checked their website and saw it opened at 12 so we decided to wait until they opened as we had been dropped off. After 12 we went to check if doors were open and they were still locked up and not answering the phone. The garden was not very clean or tidy (picnic tables very grubby and rotting wood in places) and we weren’t sure if they had shut down. I don’t think this is the case so really suggest the owners update their timings online and stick to their hours! We ended up going to another pub instead.

Sorry to say, can’t agree with the reviews here. One of the busiest days in Oxted and limited staff with card payment machines that didn’t work. Also, when a bar is full and a local walks in and one of the bar staff stops serving to local after them is not acceptable. When challenged I was told to drink elsewhere. Won’t be returning here.

Probably the worst pub meal I've ever had, after visiting at Easter and really enjoying it ,went back on fathers day. Was told there was a 2 hour slot for the table, our order was taken after 30 mins.waited another 40mins for starters, and finally our meals came 1hr45mins after our arrival. We also had to ask 3 times to be served drinks.food was barely warm and looked like it had been standing for a while ,quality of food was really poor. Very disappointed.

We came here for dinner on the way home from Hever Castle. We hadn’t booked but I called and spoke to Davine who said she could still accommodate us for food. There were 12 of us in our group (3 families) plus one dog and the pub is dog friendly which was great. From the minute we got there, Davine was brilliant. Engaging and friendly with the children in our party and just generally providing excellent customer service. We were able to split our bill between the 3 families and Davine even helped us out with the prices of different things to work it all out. We were very happy to leave a large tip as it was definitely well deserved by Davine but we certainly didn’t feel pressured to do so. We didn’t get a chance to go in the garden. The food took a little while to come out (but there were 12 of us!) and it was all delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. The pub itself is a little bit old fashioned (the toilets are too) but we enjoyed our meal.

Visited this quaint 16th Century pub after a few years away and was reminded of what a pleasant, unique, traditional business it is. We both tucked into Chicken & Chorizzo pie with red cabbage, carrots, brocoli and fries and how delicious it was. Blackberry crumble & custard to finish, all overseen during the meal with a crisp and pink rose wine, whats not to like. We enjoyed the leisurely pace of service, the Crown is not necessarily for those wanting to rush everything, and scoot away, the pub makes you feel relaxed and makes overall for an very enjoyable visit. Looking forward to coming back and their live music events from time to time sound of great interest too.

So disappointed, staff, service and prices were absolutely terrible. Lemonade poured from a Morrisons bottle on the bar then charged a ridiculous price. Most of us had burgers, they were good, albeit a bottle of mayo just plopped on the table .. My friend had the roast beef, said it was chewy, veg was cold and she had to ask for some condiments and gravy. 4 of us were still eating our food when one staff member came over and started clearing the table, we couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t busy, a couple of other tables that’s all, yet Uncollected dirty glasses everywhere even over the bar, yet when we ordered more drinks we were told they had no large wine glasses so we had to finish ours which they washed up and then put cold drinks into warm glasses!!! When it came to pay the bill I had to wander out to the back area and call for someone as yet again they were all out the back. Then they added 12.5% service charge to the bill which I thought was disgusting for a free house. Not impressed. Very overpriced and shocking staff and service.

Took the family here for Sunday lunch yesterday and wow, what a total waste of money! I don't know where to start but i'll start at the beginning I guess. So we arrived and ordered our lunch which was a simple order of garlic bread, 3 Roasts and 1 burger meal. Sat outside for the kids to play (main reason we chose this place as it has a play area for kids) firstly just like to let people know how neglected the play area is and nothing like pictures you may see. Its got great potential and is a real shame its been left like it has really. The floor under the swing they have is tiled rather than soft rubber like you would find for safety. Garlic bread arrived and there was only 2 slices on the plate, which was quite annoying as the lady at the bar knew it was a food filler before the meal (as we were so hungry) and that there were 5 of us on the table! Anyway so we had to order more. Main food arrived and well lets just say the steak was inedible! you couldn't even cut it apart it was so chewy and stiff! It sat on 3 slices of overcooked carrots + 3 potatoes + 1 Yorkshire and thats it. Oh, and my daughters beef burger was so overcooked and dry also. When we complained they brought us out a replacement roast but pork which was slightly better but still overcooked...by this time we were starving and ate the lot. This replacement meal was just meat and 3 potatoes on the place with no veg this time. Than and only than did they bring out the veg that should have come out at the start! ridiculous. Plain boiled broccoli and other plain horrible looking veg which we didn't touch. Honestly it was a total waste of £120+ The only pleasant part was the lovely young waitress who just kept apologising to us and looked so embarrassed poor thing. Oh and also NOT once did ANY management come out to apologise or give us a refund or offer anything at all! Really really disappointed. I really don't normally waste my time writing bad reviews but this one had to be said! thanks for reading

Hate giving negative reviews but the rudeness of the lady server left a bitter taste. The pub was freezing cold. We kept our coats on the whole time. Had to wait over an hour for food despite being nearly empty. Close to giving up we asked if food on the way to be told briskly that the ‘crown burger’ is a gourment burger and takes 25 minutes to cook. What burger takes 25 minutes? It was just a normal burger. Still doesn’t explain what happened to the other 45 mins. My mate had chilli but told no guacamole. We were also told no mayonnaise but bowl of it turned up when close to finishing. Food average though chips good. Everything needed decent seasoning. As for drinks …. very limited range of ales and the beer I was served was rancid. They did change it. Conversation wasn’t easy as music being played kept sticking on a loop!! The best bit was the end - when we said we would pay separately we were told rather rudely that that would mean we all had to pay the service charge separately. First of all it’s no business of the bar staff how we decide to pay and secondly what basic pub puts 10% service charge on a bang average lunch bar menu? I asked her to take the service charge off my card payment - I like to give a tip in cash based on my experience of the meal. Almost immediately I was rudely asked for my ‘customer feedback’ on ‘why’ I wanted the service charge removed. I have never been interrogated before over why I choose not to give a tip. Had she not reacted in this way I would probably have considered a cash tip for no other reason than it is the thing to do. Our card payments were taken very frostily. To cap it all when we left we pulled the door to but it obviously didn’t shut - nothing intentional but she came to the door and shouted after us ‘thank you for letting all the heat out!’ Interestingly one of our party let us know that they had vowed not to return following a similar lunch but didn’t want to tell us as it had been our go to pub back in the day and we wanted to visit it again. None of us are likely to return after how we were spoken to when we left. Given the competition now in Oxted we were amazed that that would be our lasting memory of our visit.

Really disappointed with our experience today. We went for Father’s Day Sunday lunch. I’d looked at a few options but the Crown is local to us and had good reviews so I booked in good faith. Unfortunately they were very short staffed. Service was slow from the start. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. The roast was very nice though. We watched as tables around us gave up and left. The front of house staff were visibly stressed and became increasingly poor at hiding it - cursing loudly when the phone rang, arguing with kitchen staff etc. The atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable. I felt guilty that I’d made a poor choice for my husbands special day. In their defence I think they were having a rotten time and bearing the brunt of angry customers. Dessert was a total car crash. The waitress went to check with the kitchen and was told everything was available. We ordered a cheesecake and a sticky toffee pudding. We then overheard the waitress being told the sticky toffee pudding was unavailable. She barked at the kitchen staff to tell us herself because she’d checked and been advised it was all on the menu. I ordered something else. About 40 minutes and a very fed up child later, we were served two sticky toffee puddings. I explained that’s not what we ordered and was told “there’s nothing left in the kitchen, eat them or don’t but they won’t be charged for”. I felt sorry for the staff but it really was a crappy way to treat customers, particularly on Father’s Day. I wouldn’t recommend here and won’t come again sadly.

The Crown is a lovely traditional English pub. The atmosphere of a local inside, but outside a large space for seating and a play area for the children. We came for a meal and the food was just what we were looking for in a traditional pub.

Perfect Family friendly traditional Pub serving delicious food, especially the Sunday Roast. Fab new outdoor seating and our Daughter loved the play areas. We will be back soon.

Three generations of my family adore this place. The roasts are delicious, the halloumi burger is fab and the kids love the kids menu and the play area out the back. Staff are always friendly. We will be back very soon!

The service was appallingly slow; despite there being only two tables of diners. We sat down at 1250, but didn't finish our main courses until 250pm, when we were told that the kitchen had closed, and we couldn't have desert.

We had the bean burger and it was delicious, not the usual Mexican flavour that often you find in bean burgers. We also had the walnut and coffee cake and it was moist, creamy and in very light and fluffy. I would definitely recommend it.

A group of 7 of us waited over an hour just for hour starters and almost the same for mains. My Girlfreind and one other order a chicken pie.... What very little there was of it was not chicken. The portions sizes we got would of been better on a kids menu. Had about 10 nachos in a bowl was the starter, Chips tasted as if they had just been de-frozen. Food is so overpriced for what you actually get its laughable. Servers didn't know what table was having what food even though the tables where all numbered. Don't bother going there unless you have a few hours too kill waiting for food.

Third visit and the last now. Owner did not even respond when I greeted him with a " good morning " Cooked breakfast ordered, the bacon was returned as too hard to consume, couldn't find the mushrooms as so tiny . The food and fried eggs were like warm . The owner took my plate when passing from clearing another table and my husband was still eating his food, he then proceeded to lean across my husband to grab his tea cup. The same thing happened on our previous visit. Customer service and common courtesy lacking badly. The owner definitely not happy in his work.
