Really disappointed. Food expensive foe what it was. The house special of fish n chips, was nothing special. Whilst fish itself was good, the batter wasn't particularly crispy and size wasn't big as you'd expect. Bright lights, no candles, furniture bit dated. Staff were lovely and helpful though and after several attempts to adjust the lighting,it didn't make any difference! Dessert was limited, badic 3 choices for ice cream, and it wasn't anything tasty, bland vanilla!

Yep: Top Class. The waiter new all the dietary details of the menu so accommodated our "free from" needs, for which there was still lots of choice. The service was really classy, our guests were delighted, the lamb dish was the best I've ever had - totally tender, 100 lean, and full of flavor. A top class restaurant at a medium/low price. Will definitely go again.

Food was ok but service slow. If anyone had come to check on us after the meal was served I would have complained that the food wasn't very hot but as no-one appeared we ate due to hunger. Crepes are not on offer after a certain point in the evening even though it does not state this on the menu and we weren't told. If we'd been served quicker maybe we could have had our choice of dessert. I did mention this when paying but all I got as a too late apology.

The starters were expensive for what they were although what we had was ok. The mains were generally disappointing, including mine which was a cheese souffle which was supposed to have a crumb crust but came covered in a gloopy cheese sauce. Service was very poor. However, we did eat breakfast in here too and that was FAR better. Nice friendly staff, good selection of food which was freshly cooked.

I hadn’t been to this restaurant for 6 years and booked a table for a family birthday dinner as it was an old favourite. Initially I wanted to book for 7pm due to a member of the party needing to drive for 2 hours later in the evening. The manageress asked us to book later due to lots of people booking for 7pm but she agreed to open the restaurant at 6.30 to accommodate us and the person travelling later on. The manageress was the best part of this visit. She was a credit to the restaurant. If the restaurant had more staff like her, it would have been an amazing experience. The restaurant has done away with table cloths and it now had the feel of just being the hotels dinning room... The menu... the menu was disappointing to say the best... there was nothing special and everything appeared to be bland and uninviting. I was extremely unimpressed... especially as the prices were a little high. I had a steak and I completely forgot to order a sauce with it and was never prompted by the waiter... my fault because i didn’t read the menu correctly but the waiter lost the restaurant another £3. (The steak was perfect, cooked to perfection...) I did have to mention that 2 of the party had ordered potatoes and not fries with their dinner so that had to be corrected. One bowl of fries was cold... that was not returned and I didn’t find out until after we had left. One of my party ordered cheesecake and received a mousse. She didn’t say anything and ate the mousse. The staff... apart from the Manageress, the staff were below par... we ordered a bottle of wine after finishing a bottle of champagne and the waiter went to pour the wine without even noticing that there were no wine glasses on the table... they forgot everything we asked them for... I had to ask 3 times and 3 different waiters for 2 glasses of port and it eventually turned up 20 minutes after I had finished eating... I asked to see a cocktail menu 4 times and it wasn’t until the manageress arrived that we were informed that they didn’t have one. But she went to the bar to see if the bar tenders could make a cocktail for one of our party... she returned with the cocktail... a delight for the birthday girl... Twice I had to ask about our coffees after they were ordered.... and then they came with different whiskies to what we had ordered in them. We weren’t asked if that was alright. Without the manageress I would have given the restaurant 2 stars... she was worth her weight in gold. Unfortunately the other staff were not up to the job, I hope that she can turn the place around. Would I go there again?? No, only because of the menu.... the menu was the worst part of the evening... However, I did enjoy myself, but that’s because it was a family gathering and because of the manageress....

Very slow service for an evening meal (45 min wait for starter), waiters seemed to forget us (for example we had to remind them twice to bring the bread they offered but didn't deliver) and the food wasn't great. My wife ordered fish with tartar sauce - what turned up was a dried lump of fish on a 'bed' of hollandaise sauce. However, very friendly manager - she wanted to help - just seemed massively overworked and the waiters seemed very new. It looks like a great place to eat if you have young kids (very family friendly) and had great choices for kids.

It was a bit haphazard on our visit don't know why, the lounge was very empty, almost as if they weren't expecting anyone for afternoon tea. Tea wasn't very warm, although we were given more tea. Sandwiches were delicious but the scones were at least a day old and tasted like supermarket ones, not very thick. When you cut the scone in half it was obvious that where the scones were not fresh and were very dry, cream and jam were lovely. Last time I was there it was a much better experience. Afternoon tea should always be served with homemade scones, otherwise might as well create your own at home.

He saved my wife's birthday treat. But the food was not even average. Starters of pate went unfinished. My Eggs Benedict was just ok. Café standard. Mains were just not finish either. Duck was dried out. The ham hock had all the fat removed by us and it let basically nothing, was just fat and chicken was dry. £160 ? I have to say if Dominic was not so nice I would have been much angrier. I have just moved to the area and alas I wanted a new eatery. This is not it.

We arrived on a Friday evening at the restaurant to find a bus load of pensioners out for their evening meal in front of us. Not really a problem but i get the impression they have the market menu at a discounted price! We were seated near a window which was pleasant enough, except the room itself is dated and a bit like the dining area in Faulty Towers! (more of a canteen space!). Our drinks were ordered and arrived quickly. The manager took our food order...... and we waited .... and we waited .... the pensioners had had their starter and were on to their main course!!! I asked the waitress where our starters were ........ eventually the manager came over and said 'the chef sends his apologies' goodness knows what that meant because i know fine well the manager hadnt ordered the starters!!!One the plus side the food is absolutely outstanding, it was beautifully presented and extremely tasty with high quality ingredients, it is such a shame that the obviously talented chefs efforts are not experienced by more people. The restaurant needs updating, made to feel less like a canteen and advertised more widely.

We regularly come here for the Sunday lunch (my parents have a loyalty card) It's often busy, so prior booking is recommended. Always a good choice of cold starters or soup, two different roasts, plus vegetarian option and an alternative meat or fish dish, copious amounts of vegetables, hot pudding or fruit salad or at least two other cold sweets (or cheese and biscuits) to follow, and a fairly decent wine list too. Add to that the really friendly staff and prompt service, plus tea or coffee afterwards, which can be at the table or in the lounge, and it's usually a nice way to spend a Sunday lunchtime. Plus (as my father always says).. no washing up!!

We were really looking forward to eating here, especially considering it would save a lot of hard slaving over a hot stove on Christmas Day. However, by the main course, we were regretting that. The starter was ok. Along came the main course which was supposed to be turkey with all the trimmings. The meal was served in a kind of large soup dish. So they had no idea about presentation whatsoever. The turkey was not really real, it tasted like a Bernard Matthews turkey roll, or reformed turkey, and almost all dark meat. Totally put me off turkey for life. Gravy was like water, disgusting and quite tasteless. Veg tasted awful and according to my mum, not cooked properly. I found the veggies ok. Christmas pudding was definitely not Christmas pudding in any shape or form, it tasted more like spotted dick, plus the brandy sauce did not taste very nice at all. The meal was very expensive at almost £90.00 per head. We were not offered any refund nor a visit from a Manager. A member of staff came and spoke to us instead. First of all he made a point of saying that no one else had complained at all. I couldn't understand why not. He said that he was unable to offer a refund since we paid in advance, but we would be hearing from someone soon. We are still waiting. All I can say is....perhaps others couldn't be bothered to complain about the meal because it was Christmas Day and they didn't want to make a fuss, or perhaps they were feeling too happy after their wine. I just simply cannot believe no one else complained. It's got to be said that this was the worst Christmas Day lunch we have ever had.

Dinner for 4 on business travel. The restaurant was dated as was most of the staff. The menu was more exciting than the actual food served. Fish and Chips was served on a nice wooden plank but was fresh from the freezer. Same with the fries/chips. Colleagues ordered Risotto which I was told tasted like it was some bag mix mixed with milk and "voila"... risotto. The waitress even questioned our orders (food) by saying "you going to eat that?..." she was right. Boring, taste free food. Not fresh and lower standard than one gets from a Holiday Inn (which is quite low. Avoid at all costs... Stop in Ascot on the way up to the hotel and eat there. Breakfast was basic, white bread from a plastic bag and the normal mass produced eggs etc... Nothing to write home about.

Service was a bit slow but food was good. I started with a roasted vegetable Caesar salad. I asked for the dressing to be in the side and it wasn't but it was very lightly dressed. The dish had little resemblance to a Caesar salad but was quite good. It was a stack of roasted vegetables with a light Caesar dressing over shaved Parmesan cheese. I had the grilled catch of the day. The salmon was very good but the portion was small. I asked for the shoestring potatoes to be substituted for something else and they refused. The shoestring potatoes were like a garnish on the plate. Good if you are staying at the hotel, otherwise, not worth the drive. The booking for a mid-week evening was simple and easy – though not necessary other than to confirm that there was not another event taking place there on the chosen evening. The restaurant itself is set in a separate room at the back of the entrance lobby area with the tables set well apart, covered by linen and there are views across the lawns. The Staff were attentive and provided a friendly and efficient service from beginning to end, however this was somewhat spoiled by the fact the initial drink, of dry white wine, was warm. The wine menu had a good selection of still and sparkling available The menu itself was good, not overly large or complicated, but somehow, failed to inspire and only 2 courses were ordered. The food itself was good, being well cooked to order and presented. All in all, a pleasant meal in pleasant surroundings.

My husband surprised me last night buy taking me to this restaurant. I wasn't happy by this at all. Upon arrival. I had asked for set menu. The waitress said there isn't one so gave me all menus she could think of. Therw is nothing I like. She said that the chef could create something of my choosing. For starter, I chose soup. This was below hotel's standard and it wasn't even in the restaurant's menu! The main course, I chose chicken, new potatoes and vegetable. I expected this to be simple. Instead the chef ignored my request and made this exactly the same as on the restaurant menu (which I didn't want), which was £18! I complained that it included the bone. The plate returned to me without bone. I tried and didn't like the food at all, especially the sauce. It was so disappointing, the standard has indeed dropped since the last time we came two years ago. The bill came to £61 something and I was made to pay for that because my husband had lost his card. This restaurant offers a wonderful quality Buffet Sunday Lunch. The choice of starters, soup, mains, desserts and cheese, should suit everyone. Certainly somewhere to go for a family celebration. Nothing is too much trouble for Maitre de Jane Campbell and her staff. The roast rib of beef, is the best around. Coffee or tea is part of the deal, which can be enjoyed at your table or in the lounge. It is our favourite English Restaurant in the area. To dine a la carte at other times, the food is excellent, but pricey. On this occasion, we went as a couple, but more regularly we take a large group of Family or Friends. It is also a good base for Dry ski slope, ice rink, and close to links with Windsor, Ascot, Reading and Henley.

We stayed here on Friday 23rd July and the food was to the 2 Rosette standard that they have achieved. We eat out a lot and for us it was a reasonable restaurant but the food is really good and very tasty. I thought it was a little on the expensive side for what we got but the quality of the food coud not be faulted. If you want a really nice meal then give it a try. The atmosphere was a bit low key on the friday night we went but as there were only 2 of us it was fine. Give it a try you will have a good meal here.

Was the first time i been into this pub, was lovely walking in, greeted by polite staff, who helped find a table for us, caroline the lady behind the bar, she was lovely, made sure we had everything we needed and was helpful when the card machine was playing up

Restaurant smells old. Service was really slow. Food was bad, but we were so tired it was eat or go hungry before sleeping in the Premier Inn. Car Park had many signs warning of Car Thieves Operate in this Area and Police Hotspot etc, I was genuinely a little nervous parking my car there.

A nice enough meal but service was lacking. Didn't feel welcomed at all. Reluctant to ask staff for anything, had to, not usual way when you eat out.

Just had Sunday lunch here and we loved it. Restaurant was busy and buzzy but the staff were still really friendly and efficient. The camembert was excellent as was my husband's pork belly roast. My fillet steak was a little overcooked but was very tasty nonetheless. It was our first visit but we will be back.
