We were all soooo looking forward to our once a year Christmas meet up, for a nice Christmas dinner and good company. Company fantastic, meal very, very disappointing, starter great, main meal hard, burnt, tasteless, food swimming in gravy, believe all the meals dished up on plates and left in the oven or under a grill, how a chef can allow this type of food to leave his/her kitchen is not good, we will not be going back and would not recommend

Oh boy! Are you in for a treat if you eat here!!! I can totally recommend the stuffed pork belly and my friends roast beef looked utterly divine. I don't know where I found the room to fit the chocolate tart in, but I did and it was awesome too. We'll definitely be back for more. Highly recommended!

We booked for a family of four for a sunday lunch for 12.30pm and arrived on time . As is not unusual, we were told when we booked that our table would be required by 2.30pm .We ordered and then eat our food as and when it arrived. As we ordered desserts and coffee ( at 2.20pm)we were told that our table would be required by 2.30pm.There was no reason to suppose that we would not be finished by 2.30 pm .Our time at the table was completely governed by when we were served each course. When paying the bill I mentioned that i was not happy about this. I was told that my comments were noted but that this reminder would continue to be given. The food was not cheap, but good. This will be a first and last visit .

My wife had the steak baguette which was so tough and cheery as to be inedible. I had the spicy king prawn baguette which was neither, it wasn’t spicy and the prawns were so small they could have been shrimps, it was like they opened a jar of prawn cocktail and scooped it in the baguette. I did point these things out to the staff member who said normally they would replace the items and sorry they weren’t up to our standards, they should be ashamed serving that. No offer of coming back or knocking a bit off the bill, very blase and took my £33 Avoid at all costs, they really don’t care and serve sub standard food at high prices

Pretentious and overpriced. Portion size very small, ham hock was tasteless, may as well of been wet cardboard. The waitress was very pleasant and the interior is decorated well but more care should be given to quality of food.

Went for Sunday lunch with my daughter. The staff were lovely and welcoming and there was a real cosy family atmosphere. The food was delicious (pork belly roast and a burger, followed by sticky toffee pudding and creme brûlée) and the service attentive but not overbearing. My only advice is to book because it does get busy. Thank you.

Second visit since it changed from Rose and Crown to Rose. We were looking forward to a nice cocktail having seen a cocktail menu on the restaurant's website, but when asking for it we were told they don't serve cocktails. Had we known this we would've had a drink at home before leaving for the restaurant. Closest thing to cocktails was a summer spritz menu that two of us regret ordering from... Chambord spritz that tasted like very watered down cordial for £12, not how I wanted to start the evening. Food menu is interesting and varied; tasty dishes with well balanced flavours; beautiful wine with very useful tasting notes on the menu. Service was very good, we had a young woman as our waitress (Sat evening 21/9) who was very sweet and attentive. We got a quiet table in a corner away from the louder crowd without having to even ask for it which was very appreciated. The décor and atmosphere is very elegant and cosy, with candles and a fireplace. We really enjoyed the wonderful music playing, it gave the place an old time French charm. So often I find meals out are spoiled by loud music that ruins the ambience. All in all a lovely place to enjoy a romantic dinner or dinner with friends.

Used to be a lovely pub for a drink although it has just had a bad refurb to make it look more upmarket, and failed. The nice bench in the corner has been ripped out, the nice etched signage’s in the doors has been ripped off, the lights are up too high and it’s been painted a weird purple colour. Bathroom has been painted purple too but the grout hasn’t been cleaned and is grubby and mouldy so the refurb just seems lazy and superficial. Can only comment on the bar snacks which are tasty as usual and the chef is decent. It’s now called the rose by Nicholas James - not sure who he is as the chef is the same as before.

Terrible experience - the waitress first of all, got our drinks order wrong but we let it go because she didn’t speak much English. She then took our food order, came back 10 mins later to check it, half of which was wrong. She then came back again to confirm which chicken dish it was, we confirmed the chicken supreme for one of the table, and that we wanted the board first as a starter, and she went back to the kitchen. When the food came, we got it all together, a chicken curry instead of a supreme, and the tomato panzella salad was all lettuce and onion with one sad sun dried tomato cut in half on top. When the manager (man with glasses) took it away to “redo it”, it came back as a larger portion of the same thing. The board, which is twice the price of a starter, so assumed it was a sharing board, had one small fish cake, 3 prawns and dollop of fish pate. By far the most disappointing was the attitude of the manager/owner. He was saying sorry, but also didn’t address what was wrong with any of the food, and the bill then came out with the wrong dishes on it - his general manner is rude and abrasive. He appears to have returned to the pub as people came in and seemed surprised that he was back. We will not be returning.

I visited the Rose & Crown with a friend, and I should point out that we are mature in age, it was our first drink, and we were smartly dressed, I say that because it is important for context. Whilst there, I intended to book a table for six people in a couple of weeks for a celebration dinner. We ordered a couple of pints of beer, and these were put on the bar in front of us. I noticed that mine was significantly under measure, so I didn’t touch the glass which remained on the far side of the counter, expecting the barman top it up. Unfortunately, there was no eye contact, no pleasantries and he turned his back and started faffing with the glass-washer. OK, so perhaps it had been a hard shift, but not looking up, he ignored another waiting customer for a couple of minutes. When he eventually realised that there was custom to be had, I politely asked if my drink could be topped up. I was shocked to be told, no, it had been too long and that I could have drunk some. I explained that I hadn’t touched the glass, but he basically accused me of being a liar. Giving short measures is not only an offense, it is very poor customer service. Let’s face it, if I had had a swig, it would have cost the pub a few pence and I could have only gotten away with it once – But I hadn’t. The attention to customer service at the Rose & Crown was just atrocious. Despite the Greene King logo on the pub, this is an arrangement were the establishment is a private business and Greene King, apparently, only own the building, so they have little influence – but this type of poor customer service does damage the Greene King brand, and they should be concerned. Needless to say, I didn’t book the table for six – if this is the way that the staff behave front-of-house, goodness knows what goes on in the kitchen!

This place is absolutely exceptional. Reading through the reviews I can’t understand how anyone could rate this place negatively. Had two lovely ladies serving me who were very attentive and kind, who actually both had the same name which we found hilarious. It is often expected for small chain places to have run out of dishes because it can be so difficult to predict how many consumers will come and order it, then making it difficult to have everything fresh for everyone. The staff dealt with the lack of a few dishes in a very sophisticated manner. The atmosphere was so peaceful and everyone was radiating positivity. Definitely recommend, ignore the bad reviews and see for yourself.

Oh so disappointing. The pub was very quiet and the welcome good. Drinks served nicely. From then on things went downhill. lThe French fries were undercooked and no condiments were offered, not even salt and pepper. We weren't asked if our meal was saitisfactory. Give the Eton mess a miss - it was a clump of congealed cream with a smattering of frozen berries (frozen fruit in the height of summer) and a broken shop meringue thrown on top. It looked scruffy and tasted sour. The cafe latte was very bitter with hardly any froth. To crown it all they put another £15 of someone else's drinks bill on ours. That's unforgiveable and the apology was minimal. Can't recommend and won't be returning.

Charged full price for a flat bread which was so tough I couldn't cut with a knife. A replacement was offered but I couldn't wait that long as service was slow. Presumed it would be taken off the bill but no discount was offered. Never again.

Flatbread so flat and hard I struggled to cut it with a knife. I was offered a replacement when they noticed I had a problem but we had waited quite a long time for the food and didn't have time to wait for another meal....

Took neighbour’s lad for his 18th! The old chap won’t speak to me but spoke to the kid directly instead, felt a bit weird, old chap behind the bar, was lovely to everyone but myself! Used to take People with Learning difficulties there back in the day, staff were very helpful, not sure what the guys problem. It’s very sad to be made to feel really uncomfortable grabbing a quick bite. I live two minutes away, it’s really quite sad!!

Restaurant smells old. Service was really slow. Food was bad, but we were so tired it was eat or go hungry before sleeping in the Premier Inn. Car Park had many signs warning of Car Thieves Operate in this Area and Police Hotspot etc, I was genuinely a little nervous parking my car there.

This is a lovely hotel, situated in a little village. We booked for lunch , the restaurant had two areas one large by the bar and entrance with a smaller area to side. We were sat near the kitchen door, service was slow as only one person was taking the orders and the restaurant was busy. The menu and food were disappointing and over priced. The arricini was ok ,Fish and chips were greasy, the chips were frozen and not cooked properly. The burger was raw inside ( we assumed they would ask if we wanted rare) . The sea bass was ok though it went back as I had asked for the sauce to be on the side. We had to ask for cutlery. The staff cleared the table while I was still eating and talking . Overall this was a disappointing visit with overpriced food , poor service. It’s not a place I shall be returning to.

Place was clean and very welcoming. Booked for my sons birthday he's 9. Paul was especially fantastic, great teacher and very patient with the young ones learning. He was calm in situations and made sure the boys knew what they were doing to keep them safe. Thank you so much Paul (Bob) for the awesome time the boys absolutely loved the experience and can't wait to come back. Paul is a great asset to your team and should be awarded for his professionalism.

A nice enough meal but service was lacking. Didn't feel welcomed at all. Reluctant to ask staff for anything, had to, not usual way when you eat out.
