Original review below from 2017, sadly as of Nov 2023 now seems to be closed. Facebook showed closure as of July but hours not updated. Wasn't open on a Saturday afternoon/evening when we visited. Fantastic hospitality, great beers. need to come back to try the food!

Not bad but could be a lot better. Had a takeaway once from them when it was a little late. Got a MEGA portion of chips. Never had one that big before. Battered sausage was chewy and could do with more salt and thicker batter. Chicken pie was doughy around the sides and crispy on top, so had obviously spent a lot of time under the heat lamp! Would I go back? Probably, just hope it’s better!

Food was amazing! I recommend the beef massaman, chilli beef with basil, garlic pork with pepper, sweet corn cakes, and the Thai fish cakes.

Great food as always. Our regular cafe we visit in town and never let down by the food and service!

Stumbled across this pub by accident, what a gem of a find. Lovely friendly pub, we were made to feel very welcome. The food was amazing and a huge plateful. Would definitely highly recommend. Thank you, we will be back.

New to shinfield and had seen reviews about this being the best chip shop in Reading. Well if this is the best I would hate to have food from the worst. I have tried to give them the benefit of my doubt but visited on two occasions now and every time the fish is soaking in oil. I ordered Haddock on my 1st visit and because they cooked it fresh I thought that was why it was so greasy but today I ordered cod and it’s exactly the same it was soggy and soaking in grease as you can see from the pictures. It’s a 35-40minute round trip there and I can only afford a take away once a month and to pay £9 for this I feel like I have been cheated very upset and disappointed.

Very welcoming, good portions, chicken pakoras are very nice, samosas are quite nice with a bit of spice to them.

Only two tables taken so no real atmosphere.

I don’t usually leave reviews and I’m very sad to leave this one. I came to botanique in the winter of last year and wow it was literally the best food I’ve had in my life. I came back today and left extremely disappointed by the food it was so bland, basic, boring and felt overpriced for what we got. I understand that the business has faced some hardships but it shouldn’t mean the food should be bland. Please bring back the old food! The saving grace of the whole experience was the lovely waitress the service was 10/10

I don’t often leave reviews but we have just left This Ancient Boro and I feel I need to tell everyone how amazing our tapa was. We had 8 plates and we both commented on how delicious every single one of them was. I can’t recommend highly enough, the food was excellent and Sarah was amazing was well worth the trip 🥰
