We stayed for two nights here and were very satisfied. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, although the en-suite shower room was on the small side. The staff were friendly, helpful and very professional in their work. We had breakfasts and evening dinners in the hotel on both days, and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. I can recommend both the steak and ale pie and the fish and chips! There was a choice of local ales, all good too.

Lovely pub, friendly team, choice of bitter and wide selection of wines. Fabulous (king plus balcony) room, comfy bed, great walk in shower, lovely little balcony with seating. TV with sky. Fan in wardrobe if needed. Excellent food, & fabulous hot breakfasts. Only suggestion would be to check on breakfast guests as we love our coffee and would have welcomed being checked on to see if we’d like a second cup.

The pub was charming. The room we stayed in was large with a balcony and nice and clean. Ashley took the 4 of us to another pub for an evening meal as we didn’t realise that they stopped serving food early on a Sunday night. He went out of his way to make our stay perfect. The food was amazing and the menu was great, something for all of us. Alex behind the bar deserves a mention as he looked after us as well. Will definitely be going back.

From start to finish - the greeting after a 7 hour journey by Emily and then her 2 colleagues was very welcoming. Later we met Ashley who clearly understands customer service, how to run an establishment like this and sensible conversation. Our room was immaculate and then in the morning we were greeted by Petr who also provided a delicious breakfast. We will be re-visiting what we think must be one of Greene Kings top performers. Thanks.

We were here for 2 nights. We had a lovely room with a balcony which overlooked the beer garden. Unfortunately it didn't get used as the weather was so bad. The Plough was very clean and comfortable and we slept well even though the room was at the front, facing the road, we didnt find it a problem. Lovely hot breakfast served in the morning and well cooked evening meals. There was a good choice on the menu for both breakfast and evening meal. It seems very popular with the locals as there were always people in eating at night. The staff were always very friendly and the service was good so all in all we had a great time. We would recommend the Plough and we would stay again.

Nice pub, lovely beer garden.Let down by poor service.Arrived for afternoon drinks and shown to a table at the far end of the garden. Waitress then disappeared and didn't return within the next 20 minutes to take a drinks order. Eventually I decided to wander up to the pub doors to grab someone as they came out.Second round was the same - it seems they forget to visit the guests at the top end of the garden to take orders.Beer and wine we're both good quality and enjoyed immensely. After 3 identical round, all of which were priced differently, the manager came to apologise for the pricing issues, which is a good sign of a caring proprietor. Hopefully the staff will become more comfortable in coming days & weeks to make this a great village pub.

Have always been sceptical about Pub Sunday Roasts having had a Pub myself. I’m usually very disappointed, however for the first time, I tried The Plough. . . It’s a hard enough task to provide a good Sunday Roast where each part of the meal is right, never mind having to produce it for ‘Takeaway’ during Lockdown, but The Plough absolutely nailed it. It was great. Thank you very much.

Having been travelling around for the past week staying at different locations in England we thought it would be nice to finish with a local establishment. We were seated in the corner of this delightful dining room, had a drink & some really lovely olives whilst perusing the menu. The goats cheese croquettes were delicious, as was the whitebait. The mains were equally good, although rather strange to have mango chutney served with Thai curry... we finished with desserts of creme brûlée & sticky toffee pudding. They were "very busy", I had to order food at the bar, even attracting someones attention couldn't get the order taken at the table. Starters arrived (quite good) at medium speed but after we'd finished, the plates sat on the table for another 15 minutes before removal. 20 minutes after that, no sign of mains (about an hour since we sat down). I enquired and was told they were being made (Sunday Roast?). I'd finished the starters 40 minutes ago and was starting to lose my appetite. The manager came out and explained that the plates were taken 15-20 minutes ago so... and sorry but they were busy. There was a very arrogant attitude in this which I was upset by. I was paying a fair price and it seemed like they thought they were doing me a favour. I'm a bit old school, so when mine eventually arrived, I sent it back. I'd lost my appetite. A begrudging apology and poor excuse was all I got. I could have been won over but the arrogance persisted, I'll not be back, they are plenty of pubs who welcome their customers! Shame.

Reasonably priced, good honest food with a few tweaks here and there.Maybe 4 and a half out of 5 because the wife moaned a a bit about the batter on the fish being a bit.....and then couldn't find a word for it but seriously, it's all down to taste. My pint of Otter Amber was average, certainly the brewery is a good one, but the serving has undoubtedly been GreeneKing ised. The food was reasonably quick but over done for a sandwich, half the plate was salad and coleslaw and about £2.50 overpriced for what it was and slightly soggy because of the dressings. We stayed for four nights, to use this place as a base for visiting Winchester. We ate in every evening, and the food was excellent every time, at reasonable prices. It's a lovely old pub, but the drawback for us was that the room was so small - I believe we had the smallest room, in fact, but frankly it is only suitable as a single, not a double. There was only one chair and hardly any storage space. Pity, as we enjoyed all other aspects. The location is excellent for driving in to Winchester. The service was always cheerful and helpful. Roasts priced at £12.95. Tough beef, rubber roast potatoes which were inedible and a portion of vegetables that would fit into an egg cup! Very disappointing meal that ruined our festive get together. A dog repeatedly rummaged under our table,. The waitress wasnt interested in our comments about the meals. Had a lovely stay as a stop over to Portsmouth to catch the ferry. Room with terrace was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed including a nice selection of teas and also Sky TV. It was super quiet which suprised us as we were right over the outside terrace and the busy road went very quiet during sleeping hours. We enjoyed our meal from a very varied menu perhaps the only small criticism was that the potatoes served with the trout tasted a little bit reheated. Breakfast was simple but well cooked and staff were pleasant and eager to please. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed for three nights, and wished it could have been longer. Lovely warm welcome, and the room and bathroom were spotless. Great selection of teas in the room. We had the room called Turnwrest which had a lovely balcony. The food here is amazing, so good that even the guide at the Cathedral knew about it! The Steak and Ale pie I can heartily recommend. The breakfast was tasty with all appetites and diets catered for. Dogs also allowed to stay. We even had Morris dancers! There is a bus service but only after 9am and back from Winchester the last bus is 5.50pm. But you can get a good price for a taxi. Staff amazing, chatty and friendly. Highly recommended! Thanks again for a great stay!

Smart decor inside with a nice garden and plenty of parking. Friendly welcome. Good menu choices and lighter bites. Service and food were great. The smoked salmon sandwiches were delicious - fresh granary bread and generous salmon filling. Will definitely visit again.

We have just stayed at The Plough for 2 nights. It is an ideal place to stay for a visit to Winchester. We used the park and ride facilities to get to the city which was great. There are also good walks in the area. The Plough is a lovely place to stay, the staff are really friendly, the rooms are very clean and the beds are comfy. The food is excellent. The breakfasts are big using all local produce and the evening meals are the same. The Plough is on the road and even though you can hear a slight noise it wont bother your nights sleep. It is definitely a place I will go back to.

Looking for a halfway point to meet up our friends found this great venue. Tucked away in the countryside but within easy reach of the main routes M3, A33 and A31. You get a good feeling looking at the front this is enhanced when you see how beautifully done the overflow car park at the rear has been done. Enough about aesthetics. Inside the pub/restaurant reflects the same quality producing a comfortable, airy, light and homely feeling. We were there for Sunday lunch and as well as the Roast other options were available. I went for the chalk river trout which pan fried and simply presented with new potatoes, green beans and a delicious pesto. Simple but superb the quality of the food shone through. I couldn't resist the temptation of chocolate brownie with mint ice cream and was not disappointed. Lovely gooey brownie (so often served as nothing more than a piece of dry chocolate cake) and delicious ice cream with a small fruit garnish, excellent. We ordered two roasts and a vegetable curry, all agreed it was good quality and great value.

To avoid the bad weather forecast for Friday, we decided to venture out on a Thursday and go to Alton Hampshire. It's a quaint place with lots of shops, and if you park in the Ladyplace carpark there is a nice recreation area close by.

Stopped here for a short lunch stop en route to south coast. My elderly mother was with my husband and I. So glad we chose this pub, we were made very welcome and service was swift even though it was busy. Our sandwiches ( Beef / Brie and bacon/ Sausage) were tasty and generous, with salad and a large bowl of fries.

Had an overnight stay at above pub for a break. What excellent hospitality. The staff were very friendly and the food was superb. Nice cosy rooms, peaceful environment , and a bonus sky tv!!. Couldn’t praise this place more. A relaxing walk nearby ,before our evening meal to get an appetite. Perfect, we feel we’ve been away.

Met up with friends for a get-together, had a very pleasant evening here with great food, good service and pleasant ambience. My husband and I also stayed the night in the b&b; accommodation above, which we found clean and comfortable. Cooked breakfast the following morning was also very good. We’d happily return next time we’re visiting the Winchester area.

Advertised roasted figs for starter but they came out raw. Waitress said it was a mistake on the menu!! She did not even offer to take them off the bill even though my daughter did not eat them. Husband had a bad stomach after eating here.

We popped in for lunch at short notice and weren’t disappointed. Has a pleasant slightly formal dining area along with seats near the bar as well. For once I decided on two light starters with crunchy whitebait and then a delicious goats cheese with figs. My partners mini steak was well received too and washed down with a good glass of house wine.

A big shout out to these guys. Service & food was brilliant. We were visiting my dad in the hospital & as the visiting hours are 2pm onwards 🙄 I thought I would take my mum for lunch first. From thr first phone call, to service, & the food - & I'm fussy!!, you won't be disappointed! And portions were huge! The pickled watermelon 😱 was amazing! Nothing to fault at all. Thank you, we will be back ! Might even bring dad lol

How can you mess up a Ploughman’s Lunch? Come to the D&C and see. Microwaved half baguette that went dry, crisp and stale immediately. Cheese was appalling. The worst type of cheap, tasteless, doughy cheddar. Pork pie that was missing the pork. We will not be returning.

We thought it was good but no more. The staff were very polite and attentive. Excellent sourdough (although would of been nice to be included on a £49.95 for 3 course lunch) and cracking pigs in blankets. Cured trout was a lovely light starter. Beef fillet although accurately cooked lacked the wood fired characteristics. A fillet really doesn't have enough time to get flavour from the wood fired oven due to its size. Other larger cuts of beef with some fat would be a better choice. Accompanying veg were ok but the cauliflower cheese again lacked any of the advertised 'wood fired' flavour and cheese sauce a little thin. We also thought this recently when dining in the Avenue restaurant what a shame there are no real local sparkling wines listed. Yes Ridgeview is in Southern England but some 70 miles away. You've got excellent quality producers like Black Chalk, Hattingley Valley, Louis Pommery, Raimes, Candover Brook and The Grange all within 10 miles.

Really cozy bakery, went at about 1.20pm so there wasn't as much stock as first hoped (recommend going fairly early cod the full range) however what they did have was fantastic. The brownies are moist, chocolatey and very rich. Very friendly service too!
