A big shout out to these guys. Service & food was brilliant. We were visiting my dad in the hospital & as the visiting hours are 2pm onwards 🙄 I thought I would take my mum for lunch first. From thr first phone call, to service, & the food - & I'm fussy!!, you won't be disappointed! And portions were huge! The pickled watermelon 😱 was amazing! Nothing to fault at all. Thank you, we will be back ! Might even bring dad lol

I just have a to leave a smashing review for this place. From arrival to departure the whole experience was wonderful. The gentleman at the bar was kind courteous and friendly. Nothing was to much trouble. He was very jolly and cheerful. I had the the cheese toastie and a coke ( the £8 lunch meal deal) this was just oozing with cheese and tasted wonderful. It came along with a wonderfully fresh side salad with water melon chunks! It was a game changer, I have never thought of putting water melon on a salad but I will do in future. My mother had the Pie and she said it was so full of juicy tender beef. My daughter had a burger that she said was moist juicy and delicious. Followed by a gorgeous pudding. All of the menu was very reasonably priced and we thoroughly enjoyed it all. Had a quick game of pool. The place was very clean and very welcoming. Will definitely be returning. Cannot remember the name of the man at the bar but he is a credit to this pub.

Great place for a few drinks and lunch - excellent barman, good selection of beers, a few of our menu choices were unavailable but alternatives suggested - we'll be back!

Visited Sunday 10th March , chose here because it was Mother’s Day and very close to the university as daughter is studying there we all had a lovely meal and had a very warm welcome from all the staff.

Can’t fault the County Arms whatsoever! The barman is always polite and friendly and in general it always has a good atmosphere. On this occasion we ordered food, and we were warned it may take a while due to the amount of orders. Which didn’t bother me as I’m aware the smaller greeneking pubs have tiny kitchens so I had no problem with this. The barman kept us up to date on our food and even apologised/offered us free drinks. When the food arrived it was hot and tasty, and overall I really enjoyed this visit.

What can I say, amazing food, amazing staff, service was quick and efficient. I was served by a lovely young lady that made my visit all the more with while. I would definitely recommend a visit to this pub for any thirsty hard workers and I’ll be sure to pop in the next time near. A+++

Sven was a brilliant bartender too me, made sure I had a drink and felt comfortable waiting for my sons nursery to finish, definitely a place 0f welcome and perfection, definitely gonna be a regular to county arms, perfect place to dine.

I would just like to begin with county arms. County arms, we love you. You know who we also love? Megan Richards. This woman right here, is a fabulous waitress, eloquent and attentive. She was running around all night and no table was left unattended to. This is literally THE best service we have EVER experienced in Winchester - especially from a ‘student pub’. This service from the lovely Megan should be aspired towards and she really is a credit to Phil and the team. X

I've always enjoyed coming to the county for it's classic pub vibe and friendly atmosphere. There's such a wide variety of food and county always keep updating their menu. One of their bar staff, Jas, was particularly lovely and offered great service. Definitely one of my favourite pubs in Winchester!

Myself and a group visited before the increased restrictions. Superb service, tasty food and great value! Really is nothing to fault. Highly recommended!

Love a Green King Pub, but the BEST by Far is the County Arms, Romsey Rd in Winchester. Some may think it’s a bit ‘Stoodenty’ but as an overly aging one (of a mere 49 years) I can safely say that the atmosphere is one of ‘old school local’ but with the added extra of EXCELLANT, polite, professional customer service, rather than, “bag of scrat’ins, guv?”As also a member of the physically challenged in society, the staff and patrons all go out of their way to welcome me, my guide dog and my picky husband! Not only do we get served up with the best pub grub I’ve had ANYWHERE in a long time, but also provide dog treats and doggy Sunday roasts and dinners , cooked to order! If you go in, please look out for Jess, Jas, Georgie, Meg, Oli, Ed, Bex, Dean, Danni,and the genius d’chef- Sven - ❤️

Visited the county with a friend for some drinks and had Jess M serve us. She was incredibly friendly and cracked a good few jokes. Really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back again.

Me and my house mates come here a lot and it’s such a nice place! Charlotte in the kitchen makes amazing food and Meg, Jess M and Sven are the nicest servers ever! Always feel like going there for a drink and some food. Atmosphere is great :)

Although times are difficult, makes everyone welcome with excellent service and kind and friendly staff. I feel very safe when coming to the pub, As they implement all the new rules and make sure customer safety is first.

We were a group of 6 friends - came in after 9 pm, sat outside and a member of staff asked us for our IDs, which is understandable. 4 of my friends are British and showed their UK driver's licenses, which the staff member accepted. A friend and I are foreigners so we showed our international photo IDs (Japanese national showed visa card, which contains photo, name, date of birth, and hologram for authenticity purposes. Portuguese national that showed a national ID card and Portuguese driver's license, which also contain a photo, name, date of birth, and hologram), which have never been rejected in the past 3 years we've been customers at this pub. This employee just told us that we had to leave because they can't prove our IDs are real and they don't accept it. I tried to explain that it's never been a problem previously and that we got served after showing these exact same IDs one week before this incident. The employee then called the manager over, who was rude, argumentative, and didn't even bother to find out what happened and just told us to leave. I asked why once again and Phill, the manager, told us that according to Greene King's policy and British law, he could only accept international passports as a form of ID. We have checked and both of these statements are LIES. I repeated to him that this has never been a problem in past years and he raised his voice, telling us that he didn't care what we had to say because was the manager now and that we had to come back with a passport if we wanted to get served. This incident happened in front of multiple customers, also sitting outside, who witnessed the whole thing. I don't appreciate being lied to nor yelled at by the manager, especially when this has never been a problem in past years nor with previous management. I have never been spoken to like this in my life and I'm not only disappointed in Greene King for having such rude and unprofessional people in managerial positions, but also at the terrible and humiliating experience. We will not be returning.

Sven is a legend. He is the nicest guy who helped us the whole night. Deserves a raise. What an absolute g. Will be here every night he’s working.

We visited at nearly 11 when outside closed yet he did absolutely everything within his power to make us feel accommodated and we stayed an extra hour, he deserves a raise!! sven is our favourite server/batman we’ll be here every night he’s working!!We love u sven xxx

Came into the county arms for a work do with my work colleagues was absolutely amazed by the service Georgie gave us all she was very attentive and very polite and was absolutely brilliant with us all, please give that lovely girl some recognition!

We came out for a works leaving do and we had an incredible time due to the fact we had the amazing Georgie who was so kind and welcoming to our group, we would definitely come again if we got the service we got on our night out! Thank you Georgie!!!

Went to the county arms for a nice relaxing meal with my friends who have been travelling for some time. When we entered the building it was clean and the music was at the right level. We got a smile from the staff member behind the bar and a warm hello. We then proceeded to sit down and order our meals. When they arrived they looked and tasted absolutely sensational! 100% will recommend to family

The best chicken tikka by miles, I've had for years. Better than a good Indian restaurant. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Very reasonable prices.

I'm going to use the word......only. This pub is ONLY a Green King pub therefore you'd expect fried everything served with chips. NOT SO .... the food is really really good and probably the best value for money you'll find in the city. yes it's ''pub grub'' but that doesn't mean you have to dumb food down. Portions are excellent, great range of the menu and the 'deals' are superb.

Waiting over an hour on a not particularly busy Sunday. When food arrived the Sunday roast was cold. The potatoes were like rocks the veg was very unappealing. I returned the meal saying it was cold no apology was given. The plate was returned 10 minutes later slightly warmer but still luke warm. Nobody approached us to ask how are meal was I suspect they knew how I felt. Seriously bad food seriously poor customer service. Avoid.

The staff at the County Arms couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. They made visiting with elderly relatives as easy as possible. Everyone enjoyed the food and the price was really reasonable. What more could you ask? Don't let the exterior put you off.

Meeting some friends after work. Not my first time here but we decided to have some food which was quick and very delicious. We were approached by what i assume was the landlord and he asked if we wanted to join the meat raffle. Not an everyday question I must admit but he was such a good salesman we ending up buying 7 tickets between 4 (all the change we had). One of my friends won, he was so chuffed. He was a great salesman but also a great storyteller. Perfect for running a pub. Definitely be spending more time here as all the staff were so friendly. Can’t recommend enough.

We came here while visiting our son who is a student in Winchester and lives nearby. Basic looking pub but the lads serving were AMAZING (big shout out to them!) and the food was good too! Would come again!

My son and I just finished watching the match at the County Arms. I haven’t been for a while as it seemed to go downhill, I’m glad to say we had a great night, great service, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, back to how it used to be. Couldn’t be happier. We will certainly start frequenting again!

My family and I have never eaten out on Christmas Day as we always thought it would be overpriced and mass produced. This year we took a gamble to save the stress and the gamble paid off. We had a superb Christmas Dinner at The County Arms. The food tasted just as if we’d cooked at homes ourselves with the joy of no washing up afterwards. The service was exceptional and the atmosphere delightful. The pub had many punters during our visit and all were treated with same service. Everyone who entered was made to feel like family, ambulance staff, prison wardens, large families popping in for a Christmas Day drink, even a selection of individuals who visited on their own as they have no family; they were all made to feel like family on Christmas Day. The Christmas spirit which Lee and Sarah greeted everyone with was delightful to see and receive. We shall definitely be returning over the Christmas period and throughout 2019.

Can’t even operate the TV to show 2 different football matches. The ONLY redeeming feature of this pub is the sports package - staff can’t master a Sky box so it’s only purpose is to feed students. Never returning

Came in for the Spurs game and stayed for the seasoned fries. Love this pub for a £2.50 pint - absolute bargain and love watching the game from one of the booths on the projector. Cannot rate it enough for football.

I come in here frequently with my mum, she’s a babe! We always have a few cheeky Stella’s and get greeted by fantastic bar staff that don’t even need to ask our order. 10 our of 10, would recommend.

If you want to wait 30 minutes for a slice of cake, 40 minutes for a Luke warm apple crumble, a very disappointing burger and sitting in the freezing cold then this is the place for you! Never coming again!!

We used to bet on football but gave now moved to when our food will arrive. Drama last week with watching the chef walk out and now into the second half of the match with no food. Clueless young staff, very cold environment and inconsistent pricing for the drinks. Could be good if anyone interested in putting in some effort.

I’ve been coming here for the past 3 years and I’ve never been overly impressed but on my recent visits, I couldn’t praise management enough. It’s clearly under new management and quite frankly, it’s a breath of fresh air, they seem to bounce off of each other and go over every hurdle to make sure your visit is to perfection. By the few visits in frequent weeks, the team seem to really gel together and have a great ‘banter’ with regulars. I am glad this little gem has been turned around and can’t wait to visit again.

Recently came to the pub to watch some Barclays premier league football (UTC). I ordered bangers and mash and a double gin a lemonade- was great. But what I particularly liked was a member of staff called Jamie Thompson, he really knew his stuff about bangers and mash, and highly recommended it which I really enjoyed. He knew his stuff about cocktails too, but also about gin. Great service

Been here twice in the last 3 weeks after having gone for years. It used to be a place for decent food, but either its under new management or all the chefs have gone as the food is awful now, takes ages to arrive when the place is empty and both times ive ordered something half of what was supposed to be on the dish was missing. Really really bad.

Been coming here for 3 years and it’s gone seriously down hill. Just sad to see such a good place with such a good atmosphere turn out this way. The food is a roulette wheel as to whether or not yours is edible and warm or cold and half missing. Understandable to have a wait time on a busy night, but one of our party, who ordered at the same time as the rest of us, waited an hour and 40 mins. It then came incomplete and badly cooked.

My recent trip to this pub was a great experience all thanks to the friendly bar staff. Especially one young lady called Maisie she was the most friendly girl I’ve ever been served by and to top it off she makes a cracking kraken and coke.

Watched back to back footie games with some mates earlier today and had a truly wonderful time (despite the Arsenal ripping my team to shreds- frankly a woeful performance). Had a nice big table between the six of us with a great view of the tv screen. My chicken platter which I had was unreal, tasted fantastic, was infant of me in a matter of minutes and filled me up delightfully. I then stayed on long into the afternoon enjoying the quality service supplied by Maisie- the member of staff behind the bar who poured pints of Amstel, Hothouse, Carlsberg, Stella and San Miguel to the highest degree of skill and even helped me carry them over to the lads when my hands were shaky.

Came in here on Friday with a couple of friends for a few drinks! Good atmosphere and the girl behind the bar (Maisie) was lovely and very attentive! She informed us which drinks were best and went with her offer, it was a pink gin and lemonade which was great! Will be back

Came in on the Sunday to watch the football and was served by some chick called Maisie, absolute legend, served drinks like a pro and was a mad one for the sesh, got me suitably bevved and was proper friendly. Defo coming back to restart the sesh next weekend, cannae wait say no more

En una comida en un sábado por la noche. Estaba tranquilo. Elegí la comida de chuleta de pollo. Fue servido con patatas fritas, un par de aros de cebolla fría, una ensalada de col muy húmeda y ensalada verde. La comida no era buena, pero podía comer lo suficiente como para estar satisfecho. Si tuviera que volver a hacerlo, habría comido en algún lugar de la ciudad.

Fui a este pub y la gente detrás del mostrador era desagradable, pasivo, agresivo, y básicamente nos dijeron que nos fuéramos cuando pedimos agua.

Llamé a almorzar con un amigo y me sorprendió gratamente. El personal era amable, en particular, un joven llamado Lewis que nos atendió y nos aconsejó qué comida elegir. Parecía un poco escaso de personal por la cantidad de personas que estaban en el lugar, pero eso no impidió un almuerzo agradable

Le pregunté a la casera por un menú para niños y ella ni siquiera podía reconocerme. ¡La persona que sirve mis bebidas usó sus manos para escoger el hielo no deseado en lugar de tomar un vaso fresco o incluso verterlo! Al ser un pub greene king, puedes ir por el camino hacia Royal Oak y disfrutar del excelente menú con un servicio decente.

Llegué al condado para una reunión de negocios muy importante, estaba feliz de llegar a un pub tan agradable, el personal era encantador y la comida era aún mejor, comida de primera clase a un precio razonable, ¿qué más podría pedir? Bien, nuestros dos bistecs salieron cocinados a la perfección, con condimentos preciosos, y para colmo cerré el trato, no estoy seguro de si era la ora de las armas del condado o mi J. Belfort interior.

This is a frequent hang out spot for my friends and I. We often find ourselves drawn back to this relaxed atmosphere on a Friday. It bears no shortage of entertainment with everything from pool to darts to the high quality back and forth between the staff and customers. Do not expect something so monotonous as the simple interaction one would normally be subjected to in a Sainsbury's or weatherspoons, for this pub environment is more convivial. The staff are so welcoming and good natured that your return is guaranteed from the moment that you enter. The drinks are reasonably priced as well, unlike pubs situated in other parts of the city, you can enjoy round after round of quality beverages for a price that is sure to not burn a hole in your wallet. As a native Londoner I did not expect to come across such a high quality drinking establishment with so much to offer. If you find yourself in the area I highly recommend that you pay a visit, even if you do not particularly like to drink you will enjoy the warmth and friendliness of the staff. The county arms offer a selection of non-alcoholic drinks such a J2O and coffee during the day so there is some for everyone. Truly my visits here have been something that I shall remember fondly for years to come. If I was to compare my friends and I to a sitcom group, this establishment has definitely been our central perk. Get in for the food, get in for the pool, get in for the good priced drinks. I honestly look forward to my next visit. absolutely love it!!!! And if you get a chance, the Philly cheese steak is OMFG good, literally orgasmic!!!!! 10/10 every time

It's a really good place if you want to experience a bit of the English pub life. Even if it's a bit of a walk from centrum it's worth it. And the food and service is really good. I am always here with friends that comes to visit me.

I cannot praise the staff highly enough. They were kind and attentive. The dinner was fantastic. There was far too much on the plate. All 10 meals were cooked beautifully and tasted delicious. I would recommend it to anyone.

Since I started as a student at the University in 2011 I have spent a lot of time in The County Arms, continuing to visit to this day, and I have seen it change management on multiple occasions and I am disappointed to say that the latest management is appalling. Across a number of visits with my friends this year, members of my group have felt less than welcomed by the staff.
