The Brickmakers comes with a good reputation and reviews, so we decided to test it out for ourselves. We booked a table of 6 and arrived to be shown to our enormous table. It was like King Arthur and roundtable! We promptly ordered, with a mix of nachos to share, king prawns and buffalo wings. On the whole, each dish was very good, tasty and had a fair portion size. Onto mains. I opted for the Steak cut of the day, which was ribeye, served with triple-cooked chips and a side salad, we also had a range of burgers including the chicken version, and the boom-boom salads whilst on opted for the lamb. The steak dish was OK., The steak was cooked well, but was very small and quite fatty, but the biggest disappointment for me was the overall size. I could literally count the chips on one hand, and the side salad was a few lettuce leaves and dressing. All for £29. The report on the hamburgers was mixed - one guest could not eat their one due to being overcooked, whilst another reported a great meal. The lamb looked good, and the report came back it was very tasty and well cooked. The chicken burger was simply "meh" with the salads being nothing out of the ordinary. We finished off with some desserts, the warm variety (such as toffee pudding, and brownie) were obviously microwaved so this was really disappointing. Blazingly hot in the middle, cool on the outside . The most disappointing aspect for us was portion size when compared to the price. With drinks, it was around £280 for the six of us. The steak was the most disappointing, served with a handful of fries, and a tiny salad made up purely of mixed leaves. The boom-boom salads were nothing short of poor value at £14 for largely lettuce leaves. Whilst food quality was on the whole reasonably good, for the price you would expect a lot more in terms of quantity. It seemed as though no effort had gone into accompaniments to the dishes (side salads, mash, fries etc) which were basic. No complaints on service, which was excellent and attentive. Overall, we all felt that the price of the food was not reflective of what was actually served.

Although the choice on the main menu was fairly limited, there were a few specials that made up for it. The food we had, lamb leg steaks, was nicely cooked with very tasty vegetables. Personally, I would have preferred no music, or quiet "wallpaper music," but it wasn't too loud. Be aware that a 10% service charge is added to the bill.

Been here a few times lately and haven't been disappointed. Tonight was exceptional. I had the steak pie and it was definitely home made. Full of meat and gravy. Melt in you mouth pasty it was amazing. Hubby had the beef burrito and he said it was superb. Our friends had the ribs and the ultimate burger and they really enjoyed them The staff were very attentive even though it was very busy. We will definitely be back.

We returned to The Brickmakers after as couple of years and were delighted that it had not changed. Delighted with lunch menu and the quality and value of the food. We opted for a ham and cheese sandwich. Plenty of real ham (not processed plasticised "meat") and grilled cheese (nicely different to "ordinary" grated) served with chips (with real potato inside) and a nice home-made slaw. Excellent, courteous and prompt service. Also nice clean toilets - an area which, still, so many pubs neglect to their detriment. Thanks to all in the team.

We have just moved into the area. This was the first time my husband and I had a meal here. All I can say is OUTSTANDING! The superfood salad was amazing and undoubtedly the best salad I have ever eaten! So many ingredients, so flavoursome and a big pile of it too. Completely filled me up! Salads these days are touch and go and you never know what you’re going to get but this was incredible. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and our dog loves it here. So much so he refused to leave! The dog treats provided were a lovely welcome for him. Well done Brickmakers. We will return for sure!

Always my go-to place to eat when visiting family. The food is amazing from starters, main course and dessert. This week's taste sensation was Steak and Ale pie (sadly the venison wasn't available) was outstanding and the Eton Mess dessert was just as good as the first time I had it The pub is always busy however the service is lovely and the owner is always chatty, ensuring we are looked after and more importantly that the dog also gets a treat. I'm looking forward to my third visit soon where my order will be the burger!!!

Sunday roast heaven: pork which cut like butter, crispy crackling which wasn’t ladened with salt, stuffing, roasted carrots & parsnip, steamed cabbage seasoned to perfection with fresh herbs - not a frozen pea in sight - and the most delicious gravy EVER! As if this wasn’t enough, we then had the best homemade deserts. Really good portion sizes too. We actually left full snd satisfied unlike other local pubs. A relaxed pre-dinner drink, delicious meal then home for a snooze in the garden - what a lovely Sunday we had thanks to Team Bricks 🏆🏅⭐️

I don’t leave a lots of reviews. Only really if I have had incredibly bad service, so as to warn others, or for an exceptionally good experience. This thankfully is the latter. I have lived in and out of the area since I was a kid so have visited a lot of establishments between Portsmouth and The New Forest in this time. This is one pub i have never considered going to, always looked like a drinking pub but not for food. Not a place i have ever considered in all those years of driving past now and again. Yesterday i just wanted to go somewhere different from our “go to” pubs while meeting my mum and sister for lunch who both still live in the area, so after trying a couple of others who were booked, decided on this one. I had pretty low expectations to be honest but boy was i wrong. From the person who took my initial call to book a table to the staff at the bar on arrival and the waitressing staff they could not have been more welcoming and friendly, without being OTT, The place is really nicely decorated, pristine and completely dog friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was really lovely. We all had something different and everyone really enjoyed the lunches. If there was one tiny weeny criticism all I would say is the food could have been a bit hotter, but it was still lovely. Thank you, i’m sure we will be back again.

Didn't have high expectations - it's quite hard these days to find anything much better than basic pub grub these days unless one looks hard, and we only saw the "usuals" menu on the website (mind you, the fish and chips and burgers being taken to other tables looked great). So we were pleased to be handed a specials menu (3 starters and 3 mains) to choose from, along with the website menu. We both chose pheasant breast, which was utterly delicious - I have not had it better anywhere else. Lovely chive mash, various greens including asparagus tips and leeks, a delicious little celeriac frittery thing, and a divine savoury cream sauce served separately in a little jug. Beautifully presented too. Reasonable prices and service with a very nice smile. I wish I lived nearer but, even so, I may soon be back before the pheasant runs out!

Went to the Brickmakers for Sunday Lunch. A homely traditional village pub, log fire and lounging dogs in the bar - walkers welcome. Simple but comfortable decor. Menu had good range of choices - we went for the roast beef and vegetarian nut roast - both delicious, excellent crispy roast potatoes, puffy yorkshires and lovely fresh veggies, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, carrots, parsnips and more. Puddings were also lovely and all served courteously with a genuine smile. Very underwhelming experience, travelled to this place based on previous reviews which appeared to be really good. Upon arrival no greeting from staff, place looked a little untidy and bar top was very sticky and unclean. Ordered some soft drinks and crisps, soft drinks were flat and the crisp packet was covered in spilt sticky beer. Not a great start. Two lads behind the bar didn’t have much idea to what was going on when we said that we had booked a table for lunch. Service for food menus was slow as was everything else past this point, ordered a Beef roast, chicken burger and kids chicken, chips and beans. Ordered another round of drinks with meal and had to remind staff after about 15 minutes for our drinks. Beef was extremely rare if not raw asked to send that back to be cooked thoroughly. Chicken Burger and chips were good, kids meal was average at best, beans tasted like the cheapest quality beans you could imagine. A rogue dog just walking around the dining area with waiting staff trying to get it out but was just under peoples tables trying to clear food. After plates were cleared asked for dessert menu, which never arrived so much so we gave up waiting after 10-15 minutes and left to pay the bill at the bar as didn’t want to wait any longer. With two people and a child a service charge was already added to the bill? For what I can only describe as less than satisfactory service we paid and left. Unfortunately will not be returning.

This is the third time we've been to The Brickmakers for a meal since moving to the local area. The food is always delicious and this is definitely becoming a go-to place for food. Last night, spoilt for choice, I was convinced to go for the chicken and chorizo pasta from the Specials board. It was excellent with cream, white wine, pesto, home made pasta, rocket and other delicious ingredients. We shared a dessert, brioche bread and butter pudding, which was also delicious. It is obvious the owners know their stuff. The food surpasses most pub meals you'd experience with ambience and we'll trained staff too. Highly recommend this excellent independent country pub. I have to agree with the owner on the last comments here about not enough choice etc etc. The reviewer must have been expecting Tom Kerridge or Gordon Ramsey to be in the kitchen ... although in our experience we've tried both and neither are as good, (possibly more about the name than the food) the menu choices are more limited and both are way, way more expensive.

I rarely every do reviews. As a family of 5 we go out to eat rarely as it tends to be an expensive treat. Too often in the past we have then been disappointed by the quality of the food and/or the prices charged. However,...

We had two decent meals but the menu and wine prices on their website were completely different to what was available and prices much higher. We were charged £31 for a very average NZ Sauvignon which was too much, especially given the fact it was...

How can you mess up a Ploughman’s Lunch? Come to the D&C and see. Microwaved half baguette that went dry, crisp and stale immediately. Cheese was appalling. The worst type of cheap, tasteless, doughy cheddar. Pork pie that was missing the pork. We will not be returning.

We thought it was good but no more. The staff were very polite and attentive. Excellent sourdough (although would of been nice to be included on a £49.95 for 3 course lunch) and cracking pigs in blankets. Cured trout was a lovely light starter. Beef fillet although accurately cooked lacked the wood fired characteristics. A fillet really doesn't have enough time to get flavour from the wood fired oven due to its size. Other larger cuts of beef with some fat would be a better choice. Accompanying veg were ok but the cauliflower cheese again lacked any of the advertised 'wood fired' flavour and cheese sauce a little thin. We also thought this recently when dining in the Avenue restaurant what a shame there are no real local sparkling wines listed. Yes Ridgeview is in Southern England but some 70 miles away. You've got excellent quality producers like Black Chalk, Hattingley Valley, Louis Pommery, Raimes, Candover Brook and The Grange all within 10 miles.
