How can you mess up a Ploughman’s Lunch? Come to the D&C and see. Microwaved half baguette that went dry, crisp and stale immediately. Cheese was appalling. The worst type of cheap, tasteless, doughy cheddar. Pork pie that was missing the pork. We will not be returning.

Lovely pub food and service worth booking but friendly service and good food and a great choice if akes

Delicious Haddock, chips and mushy peas, nice chips, not skinny crunchy things. My friend had a prawn cocktail, big prawns, then the cheeseboard, generous portions. The staff were efficient, not intrusive. With the log fire on a very cold day, it was perfect.

Very rude staff behind the bar. Will never be visiting this place. Poor food not like it used to be.

Got Saturday night reservation here, wish hadn’t bothered! Got a drink served on arriving & order for food. arrived 7.15, food eventually served an hour later. I was starving & ready to walk out to be honest. My husband had gammon steak which was edible, I ordered hunter’s chicken which was disgusting!!! On asking for the bill I made a point of telling the waiter how bad my meal had been, but seemed totally uninterested and although apologised more or less indicated there was’nt a lot he could do about it. We were only visiting the are and unlikely to return, but even if I lived in the area I would not return. Don’t waste your money………………

Second time within the last month have visited for sunday lunch, both times very good standard of food. Four in our party, two had lamb, one beef and oner pork all of a good quality with proper yorkshire puddings and gravy in a jug so you can take what you need. Friendly attentive staff and well priced food. would recommend a visit.

Went here on Saturday for dinner. The worst service and food I have encountered for a long time. The Creamed Mushroom starter tasted strange, a sour taste - sent back! The main course was Seafood Tagliatelle - inedible, defrosted cold prawns laid on top of hot pasta, also sent back! No atmosphere whatsoever. Absolutely dire!

We had x 1 starter of belly pork bites which were really dry and burnt the crackling was also burnt, I am really surprised the chef thought it was ok to serve this. The brie starter was just about edible but laid on a salad that had a horrible sweet salad dressing on it, also the quality of the salad was poor. The mains were no better nowhere near as good as it used to be.

We visited here on a Tuesday evening for the first time and the welcome we received was so friendly and welcoming, we immediately felt at home. The staff go out of their way to make sure you are well looked after. The menu is simple but the quality of the food is fantastic and obviously home cooked and freshly prepared, it was beautiful and we enjoyed every mouthful. The night we visited was quiz night, which we joined in with and was great fun, with a really varied age range of people taking part - the atmosphere was very friendly and warm, something very rare in a pub these days. We wish the new owners every success and can't wait to return - thank you for a really enjoyable evening, would highly recommend.

This was the most dire experience ever - having visited the dog & crook on many occasions when it has only been superb - decided we would try the new ownership. Please do not bother !! Service was utterly diabolical - in fact 2 of our starters were served to another table ! They weren’t even diners - just young people who were there for the quiz. ! Only 1 starter served - can’t remember how long it took we were losing the will to live - at which point we cancelled the mains ! Still waited and waited - then we were asked if we wanted to join the quiz !! We then cancelled the starters after about an hour and left - no apology- nothing !! This pub will not stay open long, please don’t bother visiting .

Food was perfectly cooked, well presented and was delivered within 20 minutes of ordering. James, our waiter was friendly, polite and effecient. This pub is now The Brambridge Arms as it's under new management. My friend and I highly recommend it.

Have just enjoyed a Sunday roast here... pub is transitioning to The Brambridge Arms Food good quality and portion sizes "just right". Front of house team very helpful and cared about the service they were delivering. Great covered area to the rear to eat on a warm day. Really enjoyed our visit.. highly recommended.. we will be back.

This place never changes, always a warm welcome, a great choice of drinks, and excellently prepared food. A few different areas to sit, with a nice covered outside area as well. Well worth a visit.

Nice country pub/restaurant with outdoor and covered seating if you want. Food well-cooked and well-presented. Vegetarian and vegan options available. Service friendly and efficient. Had two family meals here now, and will be back.

A delicious lunch … sea bass fillets, tiger prawns in citrus dressing with vegetable and lovely crispy chips for me and Hubby throughly enjoyed his lamb and apricot pot pie which had lovely tender chunks of lamb. The bar/waiting staff were very friendly and efficient....

We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to the Dog & Crook. Fab food, excellent service and very comfortable setting on the Veranda. A perfect place for a reunion meal:with old school friends. Would highly recommend!

We came for my partners birthday meal with his family and all thought the food was absolutely amazing! The steak was to die for, the peppercorn sauce was yummy and a huge jug for dunking chips. I’ve been told the pie and burger was also...

5 friends came for dinner, our first outing since lockdown has been slightly relaxed. The food was amazing, the staff are friendly and the outside seating area was lovely. Highly recommend.

Came today for lunch. Really yummy. Good, friendly service. Very clean and felt safe. Excellent flowerpot brewery beer. Enjoyed sitting in the covered terrace area.

Been getting takeaway for a while now and I can say the service and food is excellent. Looking forward to having lunch and a drink on premises soon hopefully.

We ordered from their take away lock down menu - steak stew and sea bass ,both with veg and a pecan pie with custard . There were all delicious Well done chef!

Stumbled across this place whilst searching online for restaurants close to where we were staying. What a revelation to find a traditional pub serving top quality home cooked food, I only wish we had something like this in our home town. We went on a Saturday night when they were serving tapas alongside their main menu. We opted for a selection of tapas as starters for the table then chose main courses from the main menu. All the dishes were plentiful and truly amazing. A great range of choices to suit all tastes. It really is a step up from regular pub food and very reasonably priced too. The landlady and her team were all so friendly and welcoming. We are regular visitors to the area and certainly know where we will be returning for food, we desperately hope this place can survive a 2nd lockdown

We had a lovely family lunch here yesterday while visiting the New Forest. Our puppy came too. Small children's menu but ours wanted a burger from the adult menu! Great burgers. 12 year old wanted garlic bread instead of chips with his. This was no problem. Husband and myself had the steak and ale pie with mash and roasted veg. Delicious We all had warm brownies for pudding, apple crumble and ice cream. All tasty and the food was well presented without a long wait. Waitresses were in masks and friendly. We felt we were in a covid safe environment. Nice atmosphere. Would recommend to everyone. We booked ahead as a few other pubs nearby were fully booked for lunch. You won't be disappointed x

Fantastic home cooked food. Sea bass filets are amazing. The chicken breast with stilton sauce is to die for. Covid regs followed.

We used the Dog and Crook for a friends birthday celebration last night (Sat). We have use this venue during the pandemic period, and once again the heath and safety processes were handled both professionally and sympathetically. The service level was very good, team very friendly and also knowledgeable, interacted with 3 members and all brilliant! The quality of the food was fantastic and all 4 of us agreed it was some of the best we have had. Overall a great experience, well done, and thank you!

Excellent food and ambience in the restaurant but the waitress didn't want to upset the chef by offering us dessert as he was due to finish his shift. Why take a group booking if you cannot fulfil it. Such a shame, 9 diners spending in excess of £500 on a dark winters evening who won't return because of the poor attitude.

Visited today for lunch with my mum. We had wraps with chunky chips and a dessert each. All were excellent! The wraps were tasty and the chips were amazing! Desserts equally delicious! It was our first visit but it won’t be our last. Staff were attentive (especially the lovely blonde haired lady who was our main server) and lots of attention was paid to the current distancing rules. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch!

Came for dinner with family. Despite it being busy the staff were friendly and attentive and the food well presented - we couldn't finish it all - fantastic chips :) !. Would definitely return.

I visited the Dog & Crook with my wife and what a very lovely pub. We stayed at the pub in some of the rooms they have and they were very clean, tidy and the bed was very comfortable. The bar staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. We had an amazing four course evening meal there and the quality of the food was outstanding. We also had a very lovely breakfast in the morning. This is definitely a pub you should visit as James and all the staff there are amazing and we will definitely be returning very soon

I visit this pub quite a bit when I’m down from Yorkshire.It’s always got a good feel to the place, good atmosphere and pleasant staff.The food is consistent and well presented. There’s different areas for you to dine, with even a very nice outside section which is also covered.

Visited the Dog and Crook last night with my family. There were 7 of us and we ranged in age from 14 to 44. The pub was rustic looking which I personally love, upon arrival we were shown to our table and orders were taken for our drinks . The menu wasn’t huge but enough therefor even the fussiest of eaters plus we were given a sheet for specials . The starters were soon out , I had mushroom soup which was really tasty and creamy, maybe could have had a couple more bits of bread! For my main I had Lamb and Rosemary pie, new potatoes and veg with gravy. The pie was completely full of lamb, probably the fullest pie Iv ever had, the potatoes were lovely and soft and the vegetables perfectly cooked . Lastly our pudding I had warm cherry bake well tart with rhubarb and ginger ice cream!!!!! My choice as was different to what I have had before.We did not feel rushed at all with nice gaps between courses so we could all chat to one another. The atmosphere in the dining room was nice and not loud.All in all a fantastic night with family, great food and all at a good price . We will most definitely be back in the future.

I came with my son on a Thursday evening expecting it to be quite but it was quite busy. I had the steak and ale pie which was excellent. The base and sides were made of shortcrust pastry whilst the lid was puff pastry! I have never seen both together before. It came with new potatoes and carrots and brocoli and a delicious and generous jug of gravy. My son enjoyed his peri peri chicken and halloumi burger even if he did find it tricky to eat as it was so large. That came with chips. There is a good atmosphere in the pub which would have been improved if they had lit the log fire.

Had to take a late booking as they were very busy on Saturday evening but worth the wait. We are lucky to have this local venue. We had garlic bread to start which was very nice. Burger and chips went down well as did the chicken breast . I had duck with fresh vegetables which was very nice , the ‘lightly seared’ duck was not actually pink and in my opinion a little overcooked but still pleasant.The Apple crumble dessert was great .Quiet enough to talk to our friends which is a big plus these days.We will be back soon.

We were in the private dinning area. 15 of us . The service was very good but I think the boss lady could try to smile a bit more. Food was excellent thank you chief. Lovely old pub good atmosphere . Altogether a really good evening. I don't usually do review but on this occasion I thought it was that good I should do one.

I enjoyed the best roast dinner I have ever eaten at The Dog and Crook. The meal was beautifully cooked, with care and class. Plates hot, vegetables perfect. Crackling ‘to die for’ as someone said behind me. A must to visit on a Sunday .

Group of 4 for lunch sadly the Lamb was sold out but my wife reports the Pork was excellent, I had the roast beef which was probably the best roast beef dinner I have had in years.The staff were exceedingly attentive and our request for a quiet table was fulfilledHighly recommended

We visit on a regular basis and always get good service and are made very welcome. The menu is a little limited but we know what we have to choose from will be very well prepared. The pub has a good ambience especially the log fire. We always look forward to our visits and would recommend it as a good place to stop for a good meal. John Chandler.

Managed to squeeze us in at eight pm last minute booking very busy night lots going on but didn't wait long for our table and drinks order took our starter order as well had the king prawns in batter very good batter was light and fluffy and the child mayo was excellent mains order had been taken same time as starter order so hardly any waiting time had the lamb cooked just right as were the caramelized carrots and parsnips the others had haddock and chips again batter was light more than enough deserts were great and very well presented and with all what was going on there the service was first class

Although packed as it was 2 December, we enjoyed a lunchtime meeting here, the service was warm and efficient and as mentioned although the place was packed, we soon had our meals.

A beautiful country pub with old beams and open fire. Came here for a Sunday lunch which was delicious. They have many options for different meats and vegetarian options too. We had a private party in the dining room which was brilliant. Great service and always great food.

We arranged to have a birthday meal (9 adults and 4 children) we were asked to pre order, no problem but there was confusion over which menu we could order from. The waiting staff were cold and unwelcoming, we had to re write the order ourselves. Food was ok, if not over cooked but did come out promptly, but from again unfriendly/cold staff.when paying the bill staff did not want to assist with splitting the bill between families. Felt sorry for the only friendly waitress Ashleigh who seemed to be getting stick from the older unfriendly staff. We all ate in our coats due to the cold, the atmosphere was as cold hearted as the staff. Would not recommend.

Nice little find on way to Marwell hotel / zoo, separate GF menu staff very knowledgeable and friendly and yummy food - Chicken in a Stilton sauce with veg ( love it when we check website and GF is highlighted on menu)

We were out in the car on the way home and we were hungry so we went in hoping they would have space. It was a Wednesday lunch time and there were only 2 tables free, that tells you something.

A very nice pub,We all had Sunday roast dinners and were very good , the staff were welcoming and friendly and few good real ales to choose from pudding was a bit pricey but again good. Only minor criticism was gents toilet didnt have hand dryer or any paper hand towels on this occasion? Would definitely visit again

We visited today for lunch with friends and were given a warm welcome on arrival and shown to our table. With a drink and a menu we soon decided on the roasts which were all of great quality, plentiful and very tasty. Two dessets were ordered and again just the right size and a cafetiere of coffee to finish. The price is very reasonable, the staff attentive and they just knew you needed them. All in all a very pleasant couple of hours.

Another fantastic Sunday lunch. The portions are very generous, even the smaller meal. Deserts are gorgeous, and we are working our way through the choices. Staff are efficient and polite. Would recommend this pub but advise reserving a table. Certainly will be returning again.

Had quite a few meals at Dog And crook now and not one disappointment!! There is one waitress who is the loveliest ever and after a couple of recent visits she looked after us and was superb looking forward to Sunday as we have a family birthday and are going again every time a joy ❤️

Whenever I’m staying with friends in Colden Common,I’m always dragged down to “The Dog”,(as the locals call it),but in a nice way!

Had a nice meal. Good service. We will return when next in the area. The steak could have been a bit tastier and the Stilton sauce could have been a bit more cheesy, but the chips were superb!! We'll be back.

Was staying nearby and the hotel restaurant looked awful so found this nearby. What a treat. Lovely little country pub with super food. Excellent staff. Worth a visit for just a drink or for the the homemade pies we both had.

Went here on a friday afternoon for lunch with some friends. Could not ask for a nicer welcome from the staff. The food was amazing too and a good size portion. I had the halloumi wrap. It was probably the best I have ever had with planty of halloumi and cooked to perfection, must place over cook it and it becomes slightly bitter tasting, it came with aside salad and delicious chips. Reasonably prices for all the meals on the menu.

We were on a few days break at a nearby B & B so chose this as the nearest pub to our holiday location after a longish journey. The food was good, though not exceptional, staff were friendly and our food arrived quite quickly, but you would expect that as it was early evening and we were the only diuners at that time, so cannot speak for later in the evening when it was probably a lot busier. If we are in the area again we may visit again.

Found this using Trip Advisor for somewhere for us grandparents to eat after a visit to Peppa Pig World. Pub was lovely, perfect summer evening to sit outside, wonderful food and a brilliant bubbly waitress. I would highly recommend a visit here 👍

A dinner for 9 people. We all chose different dishes and all of them came out at the same time, piping hot. The pies were brilliant. Not fast food as cooked fresh, we all enjoyed our dinners no one had any complaints. Friendly efficient staff.

Our first visit to this country pub for an evening meal. Parking was easy and we were welcomed by friendly and excellent staff. The dining area was nicely presented and the menu was simple but comprehensive. The food was superb and very good value for money. This was a little gem in the country and we will certainly be returning.

Absolutely loved it here. The food is very good quality and delicious. Staff are friendly and efficient and the setting is lovely. We sat on the verandah in very comfortable rattan furniture.

Every time I visit here I am never dissappointed, excellent food and really great service, our waitress obviously had an in depth knowledge of wines, and we got talking as it is a passion of mine, and exchanged recommendations, as I was having the steak ciabatta I was recommended a very nice red wine, all in all another tasty lunch with very good wine too.

Table of 8 for my besties birthday. All of food came out together. I opted for steak n ale pie with fresh veg and chips yum. Everyone’s plates were clean. Now pudding 2 very happy ladies pannacota n cheesecake both delicious the atmosphere was welcoming n dogs welcome for future reference. It’s not cheap but excellent value for money. We have tried several places in this area as it's a central meeting place for a family get-together and this is the best. All the staff were very friendly, from booking to on the actual day. The menu was extensive and good for vegetarians too. All the food we had was excellent. My husbands haddock in batter was cooked to perfection and succulent, my son and I had halloumi and avocado burgers and they were both excellent, several pieces of cheese where so often you only get one or two. Staff were attentive and helpful throughout, without being pushy. We will definitely return and feel our search for a really good place to eat in this area is done and I'm looking forward to going again to try more of the menu.

From the outside The Dog and Crook gives every appearance of being just another pleasant-looking semi rural pub. But don’t make the mistake of driving past if it’s above average food you are seeking. Their website hinted at an interesting and varied menu and we weren’t disappointed. I’m coeliac and the gluten-free selection was the main reason for choosing the Dog and Crook.

6 adults and two children for a birthday meal for my sister on Sunday. Food was wonderful and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their wide variety of different meals. Cannot wait to go back! Second review I have ever written but compelled as so nice! Thank you.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. Two people had steak and ale pie, one person had the steak burger with chips and one person had chicken breast stacked with bacon and field mushroom. All four meals were delicious and we will certainly be returning. Thank you to all the staff.

Amazing food! Booked in for Friday night dinner. The menu had so many things on there that looked delicious, I didn’t know what to choose! A really good balance of summer salads as well as old favourites. Lots of choice for vegetarians as well. Halmi fries were literally amazing - could have polished off two portions! Camembert ploughman's delicious. I will definitely return especially as I’ve just seen pictures of burgers on Facebook - really need to try those, they look great. Service was spot on. Gin menu is extensive and plenty of choice for everyone. We will certainly be back - highly recommended!!!!

Lovely pub just outside of Brambridge, very popular with both regular and passing trade. We met some friends their for a catchup, it was great to sit out under cover. Staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. They even provided a doggy bag for my wife because she couldn't eat all of her meal. Great menu with some different choices, onion rings to die for!

Positioned at the quieter end of Colden Common you will find this charming Inn. It has a small quaint bar area which leads into a spacious restaurant.There is also a nice covered outside space which is lovely to enjoy drinks and a bar snack.

Have been away for just shy of a year and this is the place that we all come for a good meal and relaxing get together whenever we have all been apart to long. Bar staff are really friendly and helpful and the land lady pays just as much attention the visitors as she does locals. Makes a massive change from some of the other places round Eastleigh and southampton.

Impromptu stop off following a lovely day at Marwell. Two tired children in tow so didn’t want to drive ages running risk of car sleeping then tantrums at wake up! Trip advisor gave good reviews so we stopped off. Kids well catered for, under £6. I had the lamb pie and hubby had the chicken with mushroom

Second time we have eaten here in the last 4 months, previously had Sunday lunch with friends which was excellent. This time we ate on a Saturday evening and were not disappointed. Very attentive staff who are pleasant, friendly and with a fantastic sense of humour which added to the two visits. It certainly makes for a better eating experience when staff are not only professional but have the ability to interact with the diners.

A friend and I popped in for lunch about 3 weeks ago. Being a little bit off the beaten track we were not anticipating it to be that busy so didn't book. The place was actually very full and we were lucky they had a table for two available.

Wife wanted a steak meal for her birthday.Decided to give this pub a try as its close to home.We were not disappointed.Having not been in the pub for many years.We found it to have a warm & cozy atmosphere.And the food was very tasty,well presented & in an ample amount for us.Did think it erred on the special occasion side price wise for us.But then,if you want the cozy warm personal touch.It always comes at a price above run of the mill outlets.So well worth a try.And very tasty food.

I was looking for somewhere last minute and thank goodness we got a table here! Probably one of the best meals I’ve had out in a very long time and as a family we eat out very often !
