The Star Inn in East Hampshire

We intended to eat at the cafe nearby but they were full so ended at The Star. So glad we did. the food was excellent and nice and hot. the staff were helpful and not expensive at all. Well worth a visit.

Just had one of the best pub meals ever for our Christmas lunch outing. Delicious roast turkey with lashings of gravy, lots of beautifully cooked vegetables and a warm chocolate and orange tartlet with melting ice cream on top to die for!

First impressions were not good. However, once inside, we found a warm, friendly reception. The food was very good and reasonably priced. If in the area, I will definitely return.

So accommodating and helpful, classic pub food that always delivers, great staff, warm and cosy. Emma is the driving force and personality of this place and she is doing an awesome job.

This pub has a very welcoming atmosphere and provides excellent value for money. The small roasts which are not that small and sensibly priced and everything is so very hot. we had roast pork which is excellent and have tried the beef. Would be nice to see a little bit of variation sometimes perhaps lamb or chicken on the roast otherwise can’t complain.

We went on a very busy night and the staff was amazing and so was the food , had a wonderful night with family .

What a lovely & welcoming proper country pub! Very reasonably priced real ale as was the food but.... You could pay the same prices (even slightly cheaper (and I'm not going to use Wetherspoons in the same breath!) ) for "pub food" locally but you get proper homemade burgers and freshly cut chips made on site, curries, fresh battered fish and the "specials".... Cauliflower cheese with fresh baked crusty bread was ridiculous and that should be a staple on the menu 😋. Just go for the atmosphere and a wonderful range of drinks if nothing else... And for Emma & Vanessa the incredibly attentive and entertaining staff 😍.

Great atmosphere created by kind staff and great group of regulars. Food is fresh, well cooked with very good portion size and excellent value for money!

I don't often write reviews but I felt compelled to after our excellent lunch today. The Star has to be one of the most welcoming pub we have ever been. Friendly, curious & warm. My wife & I had a superb roast beef lunch. It was delicious and generous in portion. Everything was perfectly cooked. I thouroughly reccomend this excellent pub.

Just had a lovely lunch. Lovely staff and great food. Second time we’ve been here and had a very nice experience both times. Will be back

Lovely village pub with a friendly vibe.. Only popped in while I waited for my car to be ready in the garage round the corner but I'd recommend it if you're in the area!

Excellent food and friendly staff. Nice to see a local slightly out of the way pub offering a good product. Constructive comment. When serving olives offer more than one type of bread,also put cocktail with the dish. Difficult to eat with fingers. Would prefer that cutlery was not laid out on tables which could allow those not eating to handle. Could perhaps wrap in napkin and place on the table with meal We will certainly return and recommend to friends

We came here for lunch. Food was very good, can’t fault it. All staff were great too. Highly recommend and would come back again

Bentley is a lovely village with the Star Inn firmly in the centre . Fab meal, reasonable price and lovely staff and a really great atmosphere...

From the initial online booking, service from Sophie and the team was great- lovely friendly greeting on arrival, a drink at the bar, I had LBB bitter which was perfectly served and just how it should be!! We had a couple of starters , crispy squid which was divine and I’m assured the deep fried brie was excellent too. For mains all four of us had the roast beef which was perfectly cooked, lovely fresh veg, tasty yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy - just what you want on a rainy Sunday! Good honest food served with a smile!! Will definitely be coming back for more and big shout out to Sophie and the team - Thank you!

This is a secret, so please do not tell the world but you will love the Sunday Lunch at The Star Bentley, in particular the Roast which is severed either as a small or large. Well done to the Chef and Bar Team.

Good service, good food and friendly staff. We were worried about going due to having a picky eaters with us but they were super accommodating and the food is great value for money.

I went here for Father’s Day with a large group. Impressed is an understatement. The food was delicious and only empty plates were sent back, with the menu offering something for everybody. The roast beef which I had went down a treat. The service was bubbly and welcoming and the atmosphere was vibrant. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the day. Will definitely be coming back soon and recommending to friends and family!!

Had a meal here with friends this week. We had various different meals and every single one was absolutely delicious. Big portions and great value for money. I had the steak and I was a little worried as I find that steak these days can be a bit hit and miss but it was the best steak I've had in years. Delicious and tender and cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and helpful too, moving tables to accommodate us. Would have given 10 stars if I could.

Enjoyed Sunday lunch and a pint. Staff and Locals are friendly. Bit pricey perhaps. Recommended all the same.

Really nice tucked away family run pub. Very helpful signage from the A31 giving directions. Got a great feel when you walk through the door and everyone is very welcoming. The layout and decor is very inviting and definitely has a nice feel to it. The beer garden is one of a kind, great style and gives you privacy when in your party. I loved the huge secluded table and perfect for family get togethers or couples alike. Would recommend this place for sure. Oh and there is a huge car park on the opposite side of the road with generous parking bays. Definitely worth another visit sometime. To add, there is the local shop a few feet away that sells COOK and a good variety of products.

Yummy food, excellent service and wonderful atmosphere. Came in with elderly lady with Alzheimer’s and the staff were really friendly, welcoming and sensitive. We also brought our dog who was very welcome in this dog-friendly pub. Lots of choice for varying budgets on the enticing menu. The atmosphere was so lovely with a cosy fire and such lovely staff. Amazing village pub, thanks for having us.. looking forward to coming again.

Amazing food, really friendly staff and great atmosphere! You can tell it’s a family owned pub. The food is always incredible, the beer tastes fantastic and it’s child/dog friendly. You couldn’t ask for more.

This welcoming pub is a hidden gem. Well presented beer and wholesome warming food. We had the pie of the day the filling of which was delicious , it is a pitty it was just a pastry top and not a full blown pie. That aside it was near faultless and the staff were accommodating and friendly. It also does rooms....now there is an idea.

Dropped in on the off chance of getting lunch as many places were busy. Wow, glad we did. Very welcoming, knowledgeable and took time to talk.

Booked and paid deposit for Christmas dinner, which we pre-ordered from Christmas Menu. Arrived and we were all made to feel very welcome. Eating with friends and some had a delicious Christmas Turkey dinner and others had Christmas Vegetarian Nut Roast dinner all followed by pudding. It was all very tasty and very generous portions. We were given time between courses and felt there was no rush. Service was excellent and friendly. Recommend without hesitation - we will be back!

Warm inviting proper pub with great staff good beer and a well priced menu. We both had the Friday fish. A very nicely cooked beer battered cod and monkfish in a white wine and leek sauce. Washed down with the excellent local beer LBB and a glass of white wine. All served in good time by efficient friendly staff. It’s good to have a local pub that believes in old fashioned values not lacking a few modern touches

The Star inn was a lucky find! There was 6 of us travelling back from a busy visit to the Winchester Christmas Market and were in need of a very late lunch/ early dinner. We were turned away from most pubs in Winchester due to being busy. My friend rang ahead in the car and this pub happily reserved us a table for 6. On arrival, we were greeted by a warm welcome into this cosy and dog friendly pub. The ambiance was lovely and if it wasn't for 3 of us being on a work based outing, we could have settled in for the night! We had good seats and a decent menu. The staff were exceptionally friendly and tentative to our party. We enjoyed nice food and all served with a smile. The man who brought our meals was cheery & fun! 3 of the group had roast beef and a steak, which unfortunately seemed to have slightly over done bits, and a tad tough; however it didn't stop them fully enjoying their meals. Thanks for looking after us and we will definitely return soon.

What a fabulous evening! First great thing was Kronenbourg on draft - you don't get it many places now so I was delighted! We were a group of 17 and everyone enjoyed their food. It was cooked very well and was very flavoursome. And the service was superb, everyone was friendly, helpful and very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I would happily make a return visit as I enjoyed it so much. Thanks to everyone involved.

It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon but a few people were in, had a scrumptious and huge salad. Would definitely recommend.

The first positive of many was the warm welcome on booking and arrival. We had Sunday roast one large and one small (great idea to offer 2 portion sizes but it was so good I wish I'd ordered large!) The food was hot, tasty and cooked beautifully. The service was amazing, the most welcoming & friendly we've received in a longtime. Proper pub food with proper pub service for great value - hard to find. We'll be back as we can't think of anywhere else local we would prefer to return to. Thank you The Star Inn and it's lovely team for making our day!

Good place, staff very welcoming

Firstly I want to say how friendly and helpful the staff at The Star were, the saving grace from our visit to be honest. The food wasn't great, which after reading all the positive reviews was a huge disappointment. Considering we were the first people in for dinner at 6pm, and nobody else appeared to be ordering, I would've expected better. I ordered the surf and turf, what I consider to be the show stopper main course. The steak was chewy, gristly, burnt and a bit on the small side; I could taste the charred pan with every bite. The burger my wife had was pink in the middle and burnt on the outside, this after requesting a well done burger. As I say, the service was very good and the staff really friendly. Perhaps we caught the chef on a bad day, unfortunately.

Lovely spacious pub with friendly staff, good value and menu and all food cleanly prepared and fresh. The scampi (small) was plentiful and delicious with nicely cooked chunky chips, the pizza's were proper top heavy pizzas with loads of toppings and the ham,eggs and chips was very cleanly cooked with perfect eggs

I pulled off into Bentley from the A31 to this pub “brown signed” from the main road. Very welcoming. Had whitebait and a glass of wine at the bar. All very good.

The roast is delicious and the choice of a large or smaller portion welcome. Everything was served hot, well seasoned and delicious. The cauliflower cheese as a side dish was great. The crumble and custard was top notch. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly

Stop off on way back from Winchester. Warm welcome, good menu, lovely table by the log fire. Ordered their home made chicken curry, and a Mac n cheese, absolutely delicious!! What more could you need on a winter’s afternoon. I’ll definitely be back.

Brilliant roast beef with all the trimmings, my two friends chose pasta with asparagus. Then ginger pud + custard. Staff/owner - charming, caring. New display of heucaras outside, we counted 61 in all. This village pub is well worth a visit.

2 X turkey roast, 1 x nut roast. Beautifully cooked and presented. Multi colour carrots too! Fluffy Yorkshire puds. Followed by crumble and custard. Friendly and efficient service. Top notch nosh.
