The Townhouse in East Hampshire

Had popped in a few times for a pint, a great selection of beers. This time we stopped for Lunch.. an excellent Ploughman’s and Loaded fries. Will definitely return.

We were welcomed in a friendly professional smiling manner. It was warm and inviting. We did not have to wait long for our delicious hot coffee and large glasses of water. The fish and chips arrived promptly, generous helping for ‘small’, not that we minded! It was piping hot and really tasty, lovely fat crispy chips and nice fish, with a choice of mushy peas or fresh peas. Reasonably priced, we’ll be back Lou and Mutti

The menu was more limited than appeared on the website. They were very short staffed on the day we went. Lunch took over 45 mins to arrive. I ordered the ploughmans lunch - it arrived minus the advertised pork pie. The waitress said the chef had just gone to get some, and then went herself. My porkpie arrived just as I was finishing my bread and cheese( the salad was very much past its best) Not a positive experience. The barman was very apologetic, but had to phone the manager to get agreement to take the price of the ploughmans off our bill. The staff were nice, but clearly not well trained/empowered to make decisions. The rest of the meals were nice

First time there, smashing cup of coffee, strong and black. Very tasty. Prices were good to.

Chilled laidback place for a couple of drinks on a Saturday night. The Kernel IPA on keg was very good and highly recommended. If you are a real ale or craft beer fan then the Townhouse is for you with beer choices I think changing every few weeks. Worth seeking out.

Staying just one night in a local Airbnb my wife and I were looking for a decent pint and an early evening snack at a dog-friendly pub in Petersfield. We highly recommend The Townhouse on many levels - the chicken burger was excellent, accompanied by a lovely crunchy 'slaw and great crispy fries dusted with Rosemary & Parmesan. All served by welcoming and friendly staff, who by the way were obviously well-trained in hygiene matters. I should know - I ran a 5-star-hygiene rated catering operation for the past 10 years before retiring and know what to look out for. I assume the overly critical diner from Airdrie got out of the wrong side of the bed that morning, and has never come across an antique wood floor before. As for the "tired decor" the discerning customer should instead read "comfortable rustic ambience" just as a real pub should be. Give The Townhouse a try - you won't be disappointed!

Had a quiet drink with a couple of friends, it was quiet when we arrived but apparently a large group had just left.

First time here.thought it was very nicely decorated and had a good atmosphere. Nice garden out the back for the summer days ....and nights. Would like to go back and try the food

Decor is very tired and in desperate need of a refresh. The food choice was minimal at our weekday evening visit. I had sausage and mash. Staff were accommodating and switched mash for chips. Unfortunately the chips were so salty that the salt felt like it burnt my mouth. Even adding vinegar didn’t pare away the salty taste. Sausages were tasty. My partner had the small fish and chips. The fish is very small by English standards and was only about the size of 2 fish fingers put together, the tartar sauce accompanying the meal was not very tasty at all. The food is in my view, just about adequate, it’s definitely not “elevated” as promoted. Without any doubt the biggest let down is how tired the decor is. It doesn’t look as though anyone has done anything in 20 years. I also spotted a mouse trap in the restaurant seating area and that made me look at the floor. That too is so badly marked it actually looks quite dirty. A tired and unkempt front of house could only conjure up bad images of what back of back of house could be like. We couldn’t wait to pay up and leave. When I got to the bar another customer was returning their burger and demanding a refund. The staff seemed ill trained to deal with the complaint. I simply cannot recommend this place to eat. Find another place nearby, there seems to be plenty.

Nice place to spend Friday evening on a date night with my wife

Plenty of fun music and laughter when we visited.

First thoughts were - a bit of a spit and sawdust place. However, the staff were excellent and helpful, the food was great (my wife really recommends the chocolate fudge cake)

A lovely little bar situated at the bottom of the High Street, serving light bites/snacks inc' burgers, wings etc.with both hot & cold drinks. A small but substantial bar also includes 3 locally sourced cask ales & several keg craft varieties. On my several visits I have found the ale to be in excellent condition & temperature. Other than the excellent cakes, I didn't try the food so cannot comment, although if appearances count for anything it did look good. If you're a real ale/ craft ale drinker this place is definitely worth a visit. Recommended. Update: 15/2/24 I visited to day & im pleased to report that the high standards are still being maintained. The toilets were clean, that bar & outside areas were likewise. The only downside for me (which is a personal preference) was the cask ales, which we're all too traditional & malty. I'd personally prefer a more hoppy variety. That said they we're all well kept & in good condition. Applause to the team for their consistancy

Met great friends from France so absorbed in catch up conversations. Food was good as well as service throughout

Visited for brunch after a walk around Heath pond. Fairly empty at 12.oo but very good service. My chip loaded with chilli and cheese was superb, the loaded chips with teriyaki chicken for my friend was rated brilliant and other friend had cajun herb chips and a dip which he enjoyed. All the better for being licensed so we could have a pint. Will definitely be going again. .

A very popular place with a good mix of people. The only thing which put me off was the sticky tables and one particular member of staff who didn't seem particularly interested in her job.

Popped in on the off chance and caught them on a busy lunchtime. Fish finger sandwich and the brie, bacon and cranberry sandwich were both excellent as was the tea and coffee. The chap serving on his own was doing an amazing job full marks to him. Would definitely visit again and recommend.

Went to The Townhouse for a Sunday roast lunch. Absolutely amazing food topped off with a great atmosphere and roaring fire! We had roast beef with all the trimmings including cauliflower cheese and the most delicious chicken that had been water bathed in wine, herbs and garlic and then roasted, with all the trimmings. As I'm gluten free, the chef cooked me a separate side of cauliflower so I didn't miss out on my favourite veg! The beef was perfection, melt in your mouth, the chicken was absolutely delicious, moist and perfectly cooked and delicately flavoured with just the right amount of herbs and spices. We washed it down with a fab bottle of red, and ate every bit! Service was amazing, and it was a totally enjoyable experience...would absolutely recommend and will definitely be going back for another Sunday Roast very soon. Well done team Townhouse!

A frequent stop for us with the dog. The coffee is great and reasonably priced! The team are really welcoming and friendly. They spoil our dog with treats and fuss. The beer selection is excellent and locally sourced.

Food was great as always but the general standards seem to have slipped. We didn't get the usual friendly Townhouse welcome, staff just seemed disinterested the whole night, even the music didn't hit the usual atmosphere. Hopefully just a one off, but it just didn't feel like the townhouse we know and love

After looking at the reviews I was expecting a lot more, The staff are rude and slow and inexperienced. I was also shocked at their appearance as it is sloppy and does not give a good impression when you walk in. The food and service was appalling. I would not recommend going there. I was looking forward to their new establishment but if it is anything like the Townhouse I will not be going there. The Townhouse is made only for a drinking establishment

Best pub in Petersfield if you aren’t under age (in which case you go to the Red Lion Weatherspoon or wait until The George turns into a nightclub at midnight then plenty of teenagers to go round). Great selection of beers and I like The Old Drum it doesn’t close at 9pm. Very attentive and friendly staff. Jolly and mannered clientele. Good quiz on a Tuesday night. Recommend for drinks.

Checked website. States they do food 12.00 - 3.00 on Tuesday. Booked table last week for today. Driving across today to spend day in Petersfield we get a phone call saying they don't do food on Tuesday lunch times and the staff member should not have taken the booking. Suggest they A. Amend website B. Train their staff C. Check their bookings at least a day ahead. A call yesterday would have given us chance to resort.

I went to listen to a Flamenco guitarist Omar Rios Meléndez play lovely bolero flamenco and Jazz with his accompaniment of piano and drums . We also had lovely salad for lunch. I recommend it to anyone reading this review.

I used to live in Petersfield and often visited the Townhouse. Always enjoyed the experience. I gave five stars, but unfortunately it shows as 3 stars. It must be a glitch on the site. FIVE STAR is my Vote.

My husband and I have been to the townhouse multiple times, and they have been fantastic every visit. It's a lovely place for lunch for the 2 of you.

I see the Townhouse as my local after a few occasions visiting. Staff are friendly and can’t do enough well done.

We arrived late for our booking due to unforseen circumstances and from the moment we arrived, we felt nothing was too much trouble for this incredibly well run establishment. Food, drinks and service all absolutely faultless. A great many places could learn a great deal from The Townhouse.

I am amazed by your response. This was my first ever review on trip adviser and do not wish to engage in pointless dialogue with this lady. At best you were completely unreasonable and attempt to justify your behaviour by being untruthful. We are a group of ordinary guys. We know how to behave and are all local people. Between us we knew a number of other customers in the premises and engaged in conversations with them. It’s a nice bar and we were treated badly. Beware. Mine is just a personal reaction of complete outrage at the way we were treated. Merry Christmas

As a group of golfers aged from 30 -70 enjoying a few drinks we were surprised to be told we could only have another round if we went into the garden as we didn't fit in ! outrageous

Went this bar earlier this evening with a group of middle aged golfers. The staff were initially friendly but once we paid our bill the manager insisted we move out of the bar to the garden and said we didn’t fit in. This despite the fact we had been there for a couple of hours. A very unexpected response. If you go there try to make sure you fit in!!!

We haven’t yet eaten here but been a few times for drinks. They have a lovely selection of beers and a very charming hostess. Always a great bet any night of the week.

Visited today . Lovely atmosphere and friend efficient staff. Had lamb shank which was beautiful and partner had sausage and mash . Log Burner going …could have sat there all afternoon. Definitely recommend and will visit when next in Petersfield again .

We stopped off for coffee, passing through Petersfield. Such a warm, welcoming and relaxing place, We went back for some lunch. Great interesting menu, food tasty and freshly cooked. Recently returned from a Belgian Beerfest and the beer selection here is impressive.. Sorry we couldn’t be there for jazz.

The Townhouse is run with great flair. It has an excellent variety of beers, for example British ones and exceptional Belgian ones such as St.Bernardus - Apt 12. There is a good variety of tasty food & a friendly atmosphere. There's a pleasant small garden and they are dog friendly. Really enjoyed their Sunday live jazz jam. Looking forward to the next visit!

Very homely great choice if beverages

I was at a private function and was spoken in the most hostile manor. Asked to leave and take my grandson with me, he was in the room where the function was being held.She must have had a really bad day? The good was so greasy not a sign of green any where. I will not be returning and will not respond it to any body.

I just love this place. The staff is brilliant, fun and full of beans. The landlord is a legend. The choice of beer is thrilling and the food is yet to disappoint. Absolute gem of a pub!

Recently started stopping off here for a coffee and cake when on long cycle rides. Besides the excellent coffees and scrumptious cakes on offer, it's the staff which really make it. Who are not only all too happy to refill my water bottle, but they also even wash the dirt off!

This is long overdue. We have been enjoying the ‘elevated pub food’ as a family for many months. Never eaten the same meal twice as the specials are always updated. Kids meals are cooked from scratch. Tonight we had family in town and had a fantastic birthday event. Flora was a superb host., matching the usual friendly welcome of Jimmy. Beer never a disappointment. Thank you guys.

We had a lovely dinner here before starting a section of the South Down Way. Great food, lovely service and a nice feel to the place as well as a cool outdoor bit. Highly recommend!

We were wet and cold and needed a hot drink, shelter and to dry off. Our welcome could not have been warmer. Absolutely fabulous staff who couldn’t do enough to help. We had blankets, hot water bottles and coffee. Amazing!

Great food and very friendly service

We ordered the lamb gyros at £15. Had no clue what that was but we were expecting lamb. What arrived was chips in a wrap with some shredded lamb and some red cabbage & yoghurt…….with a portion of chips! £15! More carbs than protein! We fed that back to the waiting staff who said they’d feed back to the kitchen, but no one was interested. £15 each for a chip butty…with more chips, not the healthy protein filled Greek food expected, was a complete rip off! An experience not to be repeated. Avoid at all cost!!

I normally don’t take the time to leave reviews but I felt the need to make an exception for the Townhouse. From the first time I visited, the staff have been amazing and friendly. Great selection of craft beers and the food has always been 10/10. This evening however is why I’ve taken the time to write this, after seeing the service provided by a young lady (sorry I don’t know your name!) wearing colourful trousers and yellow shoes. I’ve spent 5 years working in pubs and I’ve never seen service so personable and warm! You guys are great!

One of the best bar cafes in Petersfield in my opinion. Great service drinks selection, and food. Prices are very reasonable. The staff are friendly and nothing seems too much of a problem. There's a large dining room upstairs, and a garden out back. Recommended.

Decent place, but delusions of grandeur. It's a pub…! Not a boutique bar. Staff were LOVELY, but there's not much space -always feel like you're in someone's way for the loo…! Especially when there's an organised entertainment event next to the door to the toilets…! (Not well thought through.) If you can cope with semi-posh and keep a straight face, a decent venue.

Wonderful food (large portions too!) The waiter (who I think was the owner) was very knowledgeable about all the specialty beers he had available (VERY good selection if you're a craft or Belgian beer fan), he was very willing to talk and make sure we were happy and he was also very hospitable and patient with our two girls, 3 and 6. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would definitely come back for a hearty meal in a very nice setting.

So we visited the townhouse today for a family meal. There are a number of amazing points about the meal but we were not impressed with our main meal. Both me and my mum ordered a chicken breast roast dinner, we waited just under an hour for our meal and to be fair the staff were really helpful chasing along our meal. Our parsnips were raw and our chicken breast had a bone, when we asked the staff about this they confirmed it should have been on the menu as chicken supreme. Now chicken supreme is chicken breast in white sauce we would have appreciated some honesty like “we’ve been busy today we ran out of stock and had to substitute” that being said, would highly recommend the treacle pudding it was amazing. After telling the staff about our meal experience they automatically added service to the bill which we thought was presumptuous considering we had raw vegetables on our meal. I would recommend but I also think that the staff need to be more transparent with their customers. 3/5

This is my favourite spot in Petersfield. It does great coffees, food and a huge selection of exciting drinks, wines and even a wide election of alcoholic extras. It has a great feel to it with the layout and lighting. The beers and ales are constantly changing and the staff are always very knowledgeable. We’ve used them a couple of times for work events and socials and cannot fault the service we’ve received. Well done to everyone at the townhouse.

Booked a table for a Sunday roast at the Townhouse with a choice today of chicken, rolled pork belly or a nut roast. We chose the pork belly with roast spuds, parsnips, carrots, cabbage, peas and apple sauce to go with the pork which also had a very tasty stuffing. Delicious and good value too.

Absolutely loved this place, got greeted by the biggest smile ever from staff, made to feel so welcome! Sat by the log burner on a wet Saturday afternoon eating gorgeous club sandwiches which were amazing, great selection of beers to! Cora makes this place, she was so lovely with everyone who came in.
