UPDATE AS OF JANUARY 2025! I decided to give this restaurant another chance, hoping that our previous experience was a one off, but sadly not so! Yet again, the chicken was tough, chewy and fatty, the sauce was incredibly salty, the Peshwari Naan breads had virtually no flavour and exactly where was the garlic in the garlic rice? Food arrived very cool, certainly not hot enough! Unfortunately, a complete waste of money! So that is it, I'll never be ordering from here again! (The following was my first, original review) This was my first experience of Jalpuri in Woodley, Reading, unfortunately not likely to order again. Two very different chicken mains, one for me and one for my son, we both found that some pieces of chicken to be tough and chewy, which was extremely off putting and spoiled our meals. This was a takeaway order. The ordering by phone was very easy and the staff member taking my order was polite. The order was ready to collect quite quickly after ordering. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the staff were friendly and polite. I was asked to take a seat for a short time, whilst a staff member fetched my order. Once back home, I dished the food out, it all looked and smelled lovely and the portion sizes were good, everything was nice and hot. But due to some chicken pieces being tough and chewy, the entire meal was ruined, and after spending just over £30.00, I'm disappointed, especially considering my decision to try Jalpuri was based on reading about awards this restaurant had won for their food. I didn't call the restaurant to lodge a complaint, which I should have done, but as it is Mothers Day, and as a family we were trying to enjoy our evening, I didn't want to spoil the evening by making a scene. A bit of a costly lesson learnt!

I really enjoyed the Sunday buffet lunch. It could have benefited from having some instructions as it was only after the meal that the waiter said we could have ordered 2 or 3 smaller portions to try different things. I didn't want to be greedy and waste food so I ordered the Ceylon chicken and it was very tasty with just the right amount of spice. Naan breads were nice and pillowy and the price was pretty unbeatable. Excellent service and a nice, chilled atmosphere as the restaurant wasn't very busy The waiter was also able to accommodate my friend's dietary requirements and made some suggestions of dishes he thought my friend might like to try I'll definitely be returning, just a shame it's 75 miles from where I live!

We Went to jalpari for a winter pick me up! The food was delicious, staff was very welcoming and friendly, especially Fizz and will definitely be returning.

1 hour late, 3rd time running… Cold food, no extra goodies to compensate for the lateness (which most restaurants do) then to top things off, I found a hair in my naan bread. As a returning customer from day dot, supporting a local business, I wont be doing so any longer. It seems once they have your custom, you are no longer a priority to impress!

The food is fabulous, and the service is friendly and polite. Attentive but not pushy! Our favourite Indian restaurant in the Reading area. I would highly recommend.

I came here as part of a group. Restaurant has been refurbished since the last time I came and has made a positive difference. Food was very nice and service was good.

A party of 22 of us went to the newly refurbished Jalpari for a meal on Tuesday. Everyone had a fabulous time as the food was great and arrived quickly despite the restaurant being full. The staff are always friendly and helpful and we go regularly.

Absolutely top notch food here. The restaurant looks great now it’s been extended, can’t wait for it to be completely finished. We were a group of 11 and everyone said the same…… brilliant food and great service from all the staff. Best curry house around, give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Whenever we visit the in-laws a visit to Jalpari is a must. The food is really 5 star. Very authentic and beautifully spiced and cooked. The staff are so attentive and friendly. In my top 3 of all Indian Restaurants I’ve frequented and that’s all a large base!

Lovely food, great staff, but it was just toooooooo hot inside as I was sitting behind the kitchen. Also because the restaurant is quite petite, when we visited there was a big family dining next table, and we could barely have a nice talk because it was just too noisy. Will def visit again coz food is great.

First visit to the restaurant tonight. Food was delicious, large portions and staff accomdating and friendly. Happily agreed to make a specific meal even though it wasn't on the menu. We would definitely recommend.

Dishonest staff, small portions and dirty restaurant.

Yet again a fabulous curry, they even threw in a pot of extra hot dry chillies for me, which were the icing on the cake. Ceylon is superb, service with a smile as always, on time as always. I've sampled all the local Indian set ups now and I always come back to Jalpari, they are my favourite out of all. Thankyou guys, ill see you next week!

I had a take away. A very disappointing takeaway. I ordered sag aloo and vegetable biryani. The rice was ok the other dishes were mostly potatoes. About 80% potatoes! The few vegetables were soggy old obviously and cooked many times. I won’t go back, ever!

So pleased we have found this great little restaurant. We were a party of 5 on a week day and were really delighted with food, service and atmosphere. Can't fault it, worth a visit. Thank you.

Lovely, local Indian restaurant. One of the best. Strongly recommend booking in advance if eating in. Takeaway is prompt, always piping hot and authentic. Eating in? Staff are very attentive, without being over barring. Some places are pushy and spoil the atmosphere pushing drinks & extras. The lovely staff here have the balance just right. Hesitate recommending for fear of not being able to book a table. The Wednesday evening buffet is a discounted treat. (Apologies, I only have photos of starters and dessert. Was too busy enjoying the mains in real life).

This is an intimate curry house in Woodley. The food is really good and not greasy. I would say one of the best in Reading and worth going out of town for. It is small so def book in advance.

Snuggled in the Woodley neighborhood, one would find Jalpari almost like a private place. Packed and bustling (reservation recommended) this place got the best hospitality and yummy food. Jalpari special Biryani was quite a signature, rightly balanced on spice and tingling the taste buds. Thank you Mush for a lovely evening at Jalpari!!

We have been loyal customers to the recognised best curry house in Woodley, the Red Rose, since it opened in the late ‘80s. Due to a recent change of ownership and unacceptable hike in their prices, we thought we’d try somewhere new. On recommendation, we visited the Japuri for their Mother’s Day Buffet. The poppadoms and pickle tray were excellent with a tangy choice of 4 dips. The staters were a bit hit and miss. The onion bhajis were a bit undercooked and the mushrooms a bit bland. The main courses were very sweet, creamy and tasty but lacking any degree of spice or a ‘kick’. The location and setting is disappointing and bland. The restaurant is in a 1980’s shopping arcade and the unit is not really contemporary for a restaurant. Consequently the atmosphere and ambience is poor. The pricing is good. Far cheaper than the Red Rose. We will probably return for a takeaway, but unlikely to eat in again.

I have been visiting Jalpari almost weekly for over a year. I have eaten almost every dish on the menu and can safely say this is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever visited. I can heartily recommend the kacci biryani ( contains a lamb shank and is probably enough for 2). The apple chutney with the poppadoms is a revelation and all the vegetable sides are lovely. I now just order a 'special', which is pretty much what the chef feels like making, it's been different every week and has been excellent everytime. Tonight I had a chicken tikka 'special' it was quite hot, was onion heavy (which I like) with mushroom rice and a keema naan. All of the rice dishes are very good and I can heartily recommend the saag aloo and tarka dahl. The plain and garlic naans are a favourite of mine also. The staff are really welcoming and the service is nicely paced even when busy. I have taken family and friends here and highly recommend visiting. I do a 20 mile round trip almost every week just for the food.

Bloody amazing! Called to order a takeaway at 5pm and it was ready and collected by 17:20. Food was fantastic and everything tasted perfect, can’t fault it at all. Been struggling to find a decent Indian restaurant for the last few years.. definitely found the one I love now! Would highly recommend 🙏🏼

A wide variety for food to choose from for Sunday buffet. Starters are great - we love chicken wings, lamb/chicken samosas, garlic mushroom, chicken chat, lamb kebab, onion bhaji in particular. These never disappoint us. Their curry is delicious too, and in good portion. I love the crispy base of the naans. The service is fabulous - Fizz is friendly, efficient and helpful, giving good advice when we couldn't decide what to order. Their a la carte price is reasonable with good portion and Sunday buffet is fabulous value for money. Jalpari is my favourite restaurant for Indian food.

I agree with the other reviewers that this is a very good restaurant, but it is VERY HARD to find, as it is tucked in behind a Tesco shop. I was a half hour late because my satnav kept takng me to Tesco and I thought it was a mistake. The restaurant actually has a parking lot next to it, but there is a confusing sign which says it is a loading area with no entry for others. They are doing themselves no favours by failing to indicate their location. It wasnt very full yesterday, prsumably because no one could find it. But as a consequence, it was quiet, which is a blessing.

Excellent food , very friendly staff! They even brought extra different food for us to try. Definitely a place to come back and bring family and friends.

Our second visit here for buffet. Starters this time we're ok. The chicken wings were superb, samosas tasty. However the aloo chat was not as my wife expected or remembered from her student days of having this dish. It was bland and uninspiring. The garlic mushrooms were nice but not very garlicky, but that is a matter of personal taste. Main courses were excellent. A wonderful heat to the chicken pathia and the chicken sagwala was excellent. A very good amount of spinach in the sauce. All in all this is an excellent buffet at a great price. Service is very friendly and efficient. What's not to like.

First time visiting here. As we went on a Sunday night the buffet menu was on. This is not your normal buffet table. Here you order what you want from a buffet menu and it is cooked and brought to your table as per standard restaurant service. You can order as much as you want for the set price. We found 3 starters, two mains, one rice and a bread was ore than enough for us. Food was excellent, with a good heat and spice. Service was friendly and efficient. It was very good value food wise. The drinks are a little expensive. It was a lovely meal and we will be back.

First time visiting last night and already can’t wait to visit again. We ordered chicken tikka madras and balti chicken jalfrezi, both were really lovely. All the chicken was so tender and the flavour of both sauces were really good. The cheese and chilli naan was one of the best naan’s I’ve ever have. Would highly recommend visiting.

We go to and order from Jalpari ALL THE TIME and it is by far the best indian around. Mush is a lovely owner and makes sure everyone is happy and food is top quality. I’ve tried a few different curry’s from here and all of them are just so tasty and have so much flavour. I will not go to another indian around as Jalpari is just so reliable and you know you’re going to get quality tasting food! Thank you Mush!
