We have had takeaway for this restaurant before, so we thought we would try the restaurant. We were one of only two tables booked. No atmosphere whatsoever, the food took ages and was bland and very disappointing. The staff told us they had a private function and were closing early, we were not offered dessert or coffee. Made to feel unfortunate and an inconvenience. Not the kind of place that makes you feel you would ever want to return!

Superb as always. Our family has been enjoying the food, service and atmosphere at Xenuk for many years. Long may it continue. Excellent and highly recommended.

Update!! Not sure what has happened here but the food is tasteless, we had a dish each and all of them tasted like tomato soup with some garam masala thrown in. All 3 dishes went back half eaten and that has never happened to us before in any restaurant. Not cheap and slow service too to rub salt into the wound. Old review Lovely food. Very slow service, the table that arrived after us ordered and ate before our food arrived! We were only a party of 2. Took 4 attempts to order a bottle of house red 😂

One of the best meals I have had in a very long time. The food was outstanding , full of flavours and a colour a real treat for all senses. All the staff greet you like long lost family and spend time advising and accommodating your individual needs. We will deffo be back ❤️

We have travelled the world but last night we had our best Indian meal. The speciality Chicken pistachio curry and Coconut rice were an absolute delight and highly recommended. The staff were very professional and very friendly. If you’re looking for a great night out with great food, this is one place to put on your list. Keep up the excellent work!!!

Rude - Second time going since refurb, really disappointed, surprised by the rude attitude/customers service from one particular guy (slicked back hair, earring) When taking the order he was shouting at other members of staff across the restaurant, looking away from the table and not listening to what is being said as part of the order. Had to repeat several times. It came across as he was far too important to be doing the menial order taking, table service. Put off from going back. Suggest this guy is removed from front of house.

Good food, but wait staff did spill a whole gin over me. They were apologetic but didn’t mention it again and it has stained a white shirt.

Well run and good service by staff up to 2021, now for ** 2022 Oct/Nov ** new restaurant purpose built, looking forward to superb food after a long wait. New cocktail and coffee shop opening next door well needed in the area as no previous facility to stop and chat if at the local shops.

Absolutely terrible, veg shashlick was bland and horrible, they made another one, which was just as bad, no taste whatsoever. My wife had the king prawn shashlick was just as bad, no apology, never took anything off the bill. I also pointed out that the music was loud and all I could hear was the bass drum, no ambient music, again, they were no interested. BTW, the manager would not show himself, he hid behind the bar. Will never go back,the worst indian I have ever had.

Came here on a Monday evening with the family. We used to come for a Sunday buffet that was good, but we were happy to find that the very artistic but rather dated interior had been redone and the size of the restaurant reduced. Had high hopes after that and we were not disappointed with very high quality food and impeccable service. If you want an Indian meal that is a cut above the usual then this is the place to come, highly recommended.

We’ve been meaning to try this restaurant for ages and I wish we’d gone there sooner! The food was delicious! We tried a ranger of dishes, mild/spicy/chicken/prawn/lamb and they were all superb! The service was friendly and professional and the restaurant itself is modern and warm. Will definitely be going back again.

Hadn’t been since before Covid and it has been fully remodelled but it hasn’t lost any of its atmosphere. The food was fantastic as always. Best Indian cuisine in the south of England

Overall very impressed. Good range, from creamy, mild to spicy. Personally, the hotter dishes were a real winner. Definitely worth eating in.

Would NOT recommend this place! Especially for authentic Indian food Ordered a take away this weekend and the food was bland, tasteless and also incorrect. They show pictures on their website for the food but when the food arrived it was a completely different item. Called the restaurant asking for a refund and I was told “we’re busy we will call you back to sort it out” and 3 days later I am yet to hear back for my refund. Avoid avoid avoid!

Newly re-opened, amazing as it always was! Delicious food, great personal service, and vibrant atmosphere. Really wide choice on the menu, some. Classics and some rarer finds too. Really top notch.

Went with friends on 22/1/23 at 17:30, food good but small portions, split bill between two couples only to find out debited us twice each! Rang to complain. Told the manager would call me back re refund. Didn’t call. I rang back and was told I had to go to restaurant with proof to get refund. Went back tonight, 29/1, got refund and apology. Offered nothing for inconvenience caused, time spent on phone calls or petrol money to get my money back. DONT DO CONTACTLESS, do PIN only.

Absolutely great food in a lovely restaurant. Staff are attentive and helpful. The noise levels are fairly high but the restaurant was full. I would probably go when it was quieter if I wanted to have a full conversation.

Food was good, but I thought that £14.50 for mango chicken without rice, very expensive. Also the decor was a bit poor, considering its just been refurbished. It looked like they had run out of paint, not an artistic touch. Shame as it could easily be so much better!

The new re- developed restaurant had an intimate and very pleasant atmosphere. Our fairly large party for a birthday celebration was well accommodated and the service was friendly and well attended. We all thought the food was excellent and whilst some may have thought the wait between courses was a little long, for our party it was just right; we could catch up with our family and friends in an unhurried manner. We were there all evening and not once did we feel we had to move on. Again, the food was delicious. Looking forward to the cafe and cocktails bar opening. Well done to all at Xenuk, the new restaurant has a good ambiance and wonderful food.

We celebrated a friend's birthday at Xenuk on the day after boxing day. I'd never eaten there before (they live a long way from me), but they are regulars - pretty much weekly, I think. Everything was lovely - the food was spot on, the Peshwari naan was the best I've ever had, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the restaurant beautiful - I think it's had a revamp recently, and it looks amazing. Happy to recommend this restaurant, and I'll be making the journey again. Keep up the good work everyone, and thank you for a lovely time.

Prior to its closure and redevelopment, Xenuk , rightly, had an excellent reputation. Our recent visit to the new, much smaller replacement left us completely underwhelmed. For a start, the bench/sofa seating at tables are uncomfortably low, and not at the proper height for eating. They appear to be understaffed. Food was ok, if nothing special. Atmosphere was lacking. Will not be rushing back. Such a pity!

Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. This was our first visit since the restaurent reopened after a massive rebuild. Despite some rumours of poor service, we were extremely impressed by the friendly service and the excellent quality of the food. We will definitely return . Best Indian food we have had for a long time

Takeaway - chicken tikka jalfrezi wasn’t chicken tikka. Dhansak was odd tasting. Walked in and nobody acknowledged me for 5 minutes. Two curries and a couple of sides for £32, very expensive. Felt chaotic - May need a few weeks to settle down.

Went there on Saturday was a disaster waited 20 mins for someone to take drink order, waited 1 hour for starter then 45 mins for main, only had a chicken dish for main cause didn’t bring rice out after asking twice, naan was soggy inside, went to pay and was asked if we had a nice meal and explained that we weren’t happy and all we got was “sorry to hear that” everyone was Complaining and the manager was just walking round not bothering to even try and find out what’s happened and all the time waiting from starter to main not Once did the manager come over and then after we got our food 3 people came to see if we we’re enjoying it the only thing the manager was interested in was getting all the takeaways out and sod everyone that was paying extra to sit in the restaurant, even when we went to pay a guy was fuming cause he’d waited an hour and a half and been given the wrong takeaway it’s not like they’ve never run a restaurant before 😬

We had an amazing meal this evening with great attentive service at Xenuk. The food was so wonderful and missed going up to our local Indian Restaurant whilst it was being modernised. The decor, welcome, service, staff and food was excellent. Well done Sultan and your fabulous team. Aidan & Suzy x

I stopped by on a business trip, I sample Indian food all over the UK. Food here was spot on with my individual taste and requirements. I rarely stop a second time but will definitely visit again if I am in the area. One of the owners was very friendly and gave me a table even though they were closing. The restaurant decor is welcoming and clean, staff are friendly. Thanks!!

My advice to anyone would be to avoid this place altogether. We tried it twice over the years and found the food and service less than average and very expensive at the same time. In desperation we tried it again for a takeaway during lock down and found it once again absolutely disgraceful . As always it was expensive,the wait time appalling and the food stone COLD. Xenuk’s is a dump I would recommend everyone to completely avoid so as not to waste your time nor money !

Order 2 chicken dishes tonight and the meat in both were dry and tough - no way to email complaints to the website - I doubt I will get a response to this either!

We have had takeaways from here, and have also recently been to the Sunday buffet. Last night we had a family meal on Saturday night. Food and service were very good, even though the restaurant was busy. The lamb patties starter is delicious and unusual. Will return.

If you are after authentic Indian food , this isn't the place for you .. every other reviewer who says this is authentic Indian food really haven't got a clue

Superb authentic food. Dishes unique to them not in other restaurants. So good to have more than the run of the mill dishes. Deep rich flavors. Great variety if you are a non meat eater. Good service and food served piping hot on hot plates, Quirky atmosphere based on the sea with a fabulous marine fish tank spanning the wall. Not our first time, won't be our last.

Had the Sunday buffet. Very reasonable, food only ok. Quite quiet on a Sunday. Would pay more for better food. Probably won’t return.

First time we've visited for many years & were rewarded with a terrible take away. Chicken Passanda & Prawn Masala vividly dyed yellow & red respectfully!! Lamb chops poor, nan not very good - Onion Bhaji pretty good though. I recently visited as part of a large group. The food was excellent, as was the service. We were the last to leave but didn’t feel at all rushed and the waiters were lovely. Will definitely be back!

However that said, be warned - don’t arrive hungry because if you do you will be very disappointed; they take on too many takeaways, especially on Saturday nights and people dining in the restaurant become the second class customers and have to wait forever for their food. Last time we visited as a couple,we waited over an hour and a half for any food to arrive and this was after prompting the manager several times.The food seemed OK when it came, but by that time we were past it. Also the following day we were both ill with food poisoning.......hardly a coincidence ??

Being an Indian, I am very critical about eating in Indian restaurants, however, Xenuk is absolutely super in their curries and offering vegetarians a big choice. Staff are very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place if you like Indian food. I will definitely be going there again.

The food and the price of this place were excellent. The naan, poppadoms and chutneys were delicious. Portions sizes are very generous and service was quick, however slightly on the abrupt side. Will visit again for the tasty food but will lower expectations on service!

Really disappointed with the service I had when went here for a takeaway last night.I live locally and visited this restaurant many times with my wife, friends, or just on my own after work.The food has always been great, and the owner, an older gentleman, has always been very friendly.For the first time, I went to pick up my takeaway last night.There was a young guy serving at the counter, who looked like he was in charge.He seemed to very stressed and was extremely abrupt. He did not say please when asked for payment.I asked for a receipt politely . His response was: ‘just so you know, if you want a receipt, you need to tell me before you put your card in’. Very rude, and I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing him by being a customer.My response was to advise him that it was unlikely I would come again, so his point re the receipt was a moot one.He said this was fine.So in essence, I will never visit this establishment ever again.Shame really.

I would not recommend this restaurant what so ever. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 The manager Sultan is a rude, cocky and dishonest person who does not care about his customers. A staff member accidentally spilt a full tray of drinks on to the four of us on Father’s Day, including my Fianceé expensive hand bag. We were all so wet we had to go home and change. We went back and had the meal which Shafi said was on the house. We went back the next day to discuss the compensation regarding the hand bag with the manager, who was not there so we were given his number to discuss this. When we spoke to Sultan (the manager) he was rude, dismissive and cocky about the idea of compensation and also accused us of leaving without paying which is absolutely untrue.
