Great food delivered in a fine dining room, Breakfast menu was a little light on the number of dishes and to be honest paying £15 for an English breakfast was very expensive. We therefore expected a breakfast of high quality so we wouldn't feel hungry. Sadly the food was lovely but wasn't enough to salve our appetite. Very disappointed.

Sadly this was an awful, amateur set up where they had no plates for the cakes, visible rubbish around the floor , very poor service and poor value for money . We paid £4 each for the absolutely tiniest slice of Victoria sponge - although it was nice tasting . Terrible - you need an active manager on site getting everything up to standard.

We came with a dog. Looked for a sign on the door or window to work out if the dogs are allowed but have not found anything. Went just inside the door hoping to find a member of staff to ask them but there was no one to greet us. So we relaxed and just proceeded to the table. As soon as we reached the table we were shouted at from behind the counter and asked to leave because IT IS A RESTAURANT AND DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED. We sat outside and proceeded to order. Firstly, dog bowls were nowhere to be found (Hever Castle website states they should be), online ordering system is tedious and works badly with the low reception around Hever on all of our networks. After 15 minutes of fiddling we have ordered. Food was not cheap. Drinks arrived lukewarm (waitress could not find us even though we had to provide table number in the order), were spilled all over the tray and we were expected to wipe it all up with the one napkin each we were provided for the meal. Tea had to be returned because the cup was covered in previous guest's lipstick. Food was a further disappointment. Chicken burgers were incinerated, I genuinely thought they might be just fancy and cooked with charcoal or similar colouring but they were just burnt. We asked for replacement and got 10% ligher in colour, still overcooked. Portions were small. Appalling experience considering it is a RESTAURANT. I would not have fed my dog there by choice and was sad to.have this experience at the lovely Hever Castle and Gardens ...

We walked into the restaurant with a small dog, having firstly checked that there was no sign prohibiting dogs. Someone shouted from behind the counter across the restaurant to tell us that dogs were not allowed. We proceeded to sit outside and ordered using the phone app, which took several minutes due to poor reception. The food arrived at various times, with the children's meals coming last. Two of our party ordered the chicken burgers, which were burnt and inedible. They were returned and replaced with less burnt, but still overcooked, offerings. Portions were small and overpriced. The cup of tea arrived with lipstick all over the cup and also had to be returned. The coffees were lukewarm at best, and also overpriced. The coffees were split all over the tray, and we were offered nothing to clear up the spill. We had to request a bowl of water for our dog and were given a plastic container. The waiting staff wore white gloves but the restaurant experience was very different from the impression they may have been hoping to make. We will certainly never eat there again and our advice is to take a picnic as there are plenty of places to eat your own food.

Restaurant is a lovely space and the small number of staff that were there were helpful but the booking system using QR codes is awful and time consuming. We ordered our food only for it to crash and we had to start again. The food was massively overpriced and not warm enough. I ordered scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. It came on a small piece of toast with a small amount of salmon on the side. That was it. £14!!! So disappointing. My husband had the breakfast but his hash brown was grey in the middle from being left under a heat lamp too long presumably. We sent it back and the chef said we had a bruised one. Never heard such rubbish. His breakfast was also on the small side and cost £15. Such a rip off for what we received. My advice is take a picnic and enjoy the grounds instead of being ripped off.

The sandwiches were bland and boring made with soggy white bread. The scones had forgotten to rise and were like hard, tasteless pellets. I didn't even bother trying any of the cakes though my husband did. He said they tasted shop bought and the Bakewell tart appeared to be a Mr Kipling one cut in half. We were not offered a top up of tea. The service was pretty lame and they only had 3 tables occupied to cope with. At £22.75 per head it is way overpriced. This is more than we paid for afternoon tea at the famous Betty's in their Imperial Room overlooking the Stray in Harrogate in elegant surroundings.

Thought we would have lunch here after visiting the castle. Going up to the counter to choose our sandwich, we could not read what any of the contents were as they had been placed in the cabinet with labels facing wrong way. So had to ask a member of staff to go through them all. After choosing a wrap consisting of Avocado, carrot and hummus I paid for it and thought it a bit expensive £4.95 but took it to our table. First bite was just all shredded slightly old carrot ,so I decided to unwrap it. Not only was there no avocado, but the hummus must have been put on then scrapped off. What a rip off as they had put cucumber in thin slices instead of Avocado. I took it to the manager and did get a refund, but no apology or offered any alternative. Shocking price for a shredded carrot wrap !!! If this cafe is run by Pru Leith, then perhaps I can have her contact details to see if she is aware of the poor quality wrap I was given !

we caught the cafe just before lunch but having queued to get into Hever the disorganised slow cafe with limited range was disappointing. There needs to be a single queue. People were in 4 queues with the cake selection in the middle and customers were having to get between the queues to make choices then join a queue. I queued 20 minutes for 2 pieces of cake and two hot drinks. More tills and more baristas needed. Cake and drinks were good when we got to them

Apparently a Pru. Leith run restaurant at Hever Castle. She needs to visit here and get the the food up to standard.Bread with balsamic was ok except bread a bit dry.Mains of what was supposed to be chicken caeser salad. Chicken fine but rest was poor. The wrong lettuce used and drowned by an excess of dressing. So lettuce was limp with no crunch or bite. Just sloppy. No anchovies and no Parmesan on top. Croutons were bits of dry bread which were not cooked and crispy.Very disappointing.Deserts of strawberries with cream were clearly fresh and tasty.Prices were reasonable if food was at least what a proper caeser should be.Not a highlight of the evening but the concert was amazing.

As we entered the restaurant for lunch we could only find one table without uncleared plates. The soup was cold, the bubble and squeak inedible and the curry badly prepared. Cutlery was not replenished and there were no plates on the cake table for self service. The staff were badly trained and with little service ethic. Most disappointing and expensive to boot! The restaurant has a wonderful location and the cakes are delicious but the above issues need to be addressed as soon as possible or there will be more negative reviews!

I don't mind paying slightly raised prices if the quality of the product and the service is good, but disappointed was definitely the feeling after yesterday's visit.Fish finger sandwiches at just over £10 each were chosen. The description said haddock fish fingers. That sounded good, but what arrived were haddock goujon one in each half of two sliced white bread. With a good sized portion of chips but they were a mixed bunch. Some "skins" some traditional chips. Plus a handful of leaves.I am sure they have better days but the staff seemed disinterested and going through the motions.Captive audience syndrome.

Me, my partner, and young daughter stopped here for lunch on a visit to Hever Castle. We shared a Ploughmans lunch for two, which was mediocre at best. Ham was standard, cheese was far too strong, served with two hard lumps of bread and a leafy salad which was fine. The staff weren't very friendly and one was outright rude to my partner when he asked if there was most Victoria sponge cake coming out. He waited and did get his slice, which was fresh out of the fridge and so not great for eating straight away.

The pre-Theatre menu was appetizing and well presented with food and wine reasonably priced. Only disappointment was that, as residents at the B&B; accommodation in the Castle grounds, were unable to access the Restaurant on foot in the evening after the Gardens were closed to the public. Suggestion--fish and chips take a while as they don't rush it and it is done right, however, if you are in a hurry, take a sandwich off the line and don't order the hot food. That being said, my wife finished her meal before I got mine--no problem, just a lesson learmed. Nice crew of young people delivering food and clearing tables and keeping things neat. Table booked for a 6.30 supper before the opera. Staff lovely, food fine however very disappointed that the fish pie had run out - a little early in the evening I would have thought! Waitress also advised that there were only 3 portions of the smoked salmon left (luckily only 2 of us wanted this option). Had the curry instead which was a little bland but ok. During the interval we were third in the queue for a drink. Unfortunately (as last year) the actual making of the coffee was incredibly slow, in fact the queue had not even gone even half way down when the bell was rung for the second half of the performance. Will visit again but pre order my meal as there is a very limited choice available and it is frustrating when your choice has run out so early in the evening.
