We used to live in the village for many years and it seemed fitting to arrange our mothers wake at the pub we used to pop into for drinks or food over the years. Staff were so friendly and attentive, food was great and even had some left over! We were lucky to have amazing weather and we enjoyed all sitting outside in the garden where there was plenty of seating to seat 50 plus people. Highly recommend

So tonight we decided to try the cock inn as not only has it got a new chef 😂 the menu that was posted through our door looked very inviting and professional, we decided to book a table for 5 people, service was slow although pub not busy, that was just for drinks 🙈 landlady had no knowledge of menu as we asked about the vegan and vegetarian options, All that was offered was taking elements off of other dishes, my daughter opted for a starter, the caramelised red onion tart which was burnt and tasted bitter, starters turned up miles apart, my soup turned up last and as I started my soup the waitress was clearing the table and I felt pressured and didn’t finish my soup. The mains were also a disappointment, burnt tasteless and inedible, my daughter actually sent her starter back which was ordered as a main due to lack of choice and the landlady argued that it was supposed to look like this “burnt” and tasted “burnt “ price was taken off the bill, fair enough but we all left hungry and disappointed ☹️ My food was inedible as over cooked also, nothing on desserts to tempt me.

Marie and her staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Marie provided exactly what we had requested - hot and cold food, vegetarian and gluten free. The food was delicious, fresh and there was plenty for people to choose from. The feedback from our guests during the afternoon was all positive and we were extremely happy with the way the afternoon went. Marie had even decorated the tables with little posies of flowers in colours we requested only the day before. We would definitely recommend The Cock Inn and hope to return in the future for a happier occasion next time.

My partner and I, my daughter and many friends recently attended a wake for a dear friend. The landlord and lady couldn’t have been more accommodating allowing us to hang pictures outside and allowed music to be played outside as it was a very warm day. All the staff were friendly and never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be served. The food was plentiful from sandwiches, homemade pizzas, chicken wings to homemade sausage rolls. A terrific send of for our dear friend.

After my husbands funeral at Bluebell Cemetery I had paid £15 per head for a wake at The Cock Inn. Could not believe the rubbish that was served, if you wanted tea or coffee you had to make it yourself. The sandwiches looked as though they had been sat on and there were a few bits of pork pie cut up along with some awful chicken satay. Needless to say most of food was not eaten, how on earth they could justify £15 per head for that is unbelievable. Normally I would have complained but due to the occasion I certainly was in no mood. If you're planning a wake don't bother with them.

We stopped here for lunch before heading to our appointment that was close by. We were on a tight schedule (say 1h before going away) and this was shared immediately at the start to make I guess the owners (husband and wife) aware that we didn't have much time. They shared that there was no problem, and that they would open in 10 minutes. We got there after 10m and I shared again that we have now only 45m before we need to go and I feel it was useless to do so because they just took their time in preparing a very quick tomato pasta and a burger but above all, they were just chatting with people and being very slow in taking orders. We got to the point that we didn't even know if we had to leave before the dishes came out. My husband went inside to pay with the knowledge that we might have paid for not eating anything. Luckily our dishes came out 5-6 minutes before we had to leave. It was a rush. The pasta was good as I feel it was freshly made, the burger was OK. They have a nice garden (I didn't see the inside) but I didn't like the customer service or the experience at all.

This pub is well managed and VERY family orientated.! Kids are allowed in garden, bar staff bend over backwards, Landlords go over and beyond, food is excellent. and the locals are so so friendly! Couldn't recommend this pub more - apparently we happened to order food as they have a new chef, and have to say what we ordered was wonderful. If you haven't been, have kids, want good food and well priced drinks couldn't recommend more! Definitely on my top 5 of pubs! PS Dogs are welcome!!!!!

I visited the friendly pub when they was hosting the sausage fest back in August. The food was great, on that particular day they had a selection of sausages to taste before you buy, they also had a salad buffet to have with your meal which was delicious! The weather was fantastic, making the pub garden even more beautiful. I sat outside while I ate with my friend, we was entertained by a couple of singers which really set the mood. I loved that the pub is dog friendly and that they have the freedom to roam! I have been back since and will be returning again. There was also a fab range of gins and ciders which is great for summer time! Also the pub dog is so cute!

The new managers have really turned this pub around which should be applauded. However, Sunday lunch food was below average, very skimpy on the veg, and dessert accompaniments such as ice cream (half a scoop) which made our meal expensive for what it was. Won't be going back to eat.

I visited here with my family on Saturday, as two adults and two young children. We have lived in the village for over 10 years and have always avoided this pub, since the new owners have arrived we decided to give it a try. To start with we didn’t not receive a warm welcoming, we felt extremely awkward. No kids menu - just ‘smaller portions’ of adult ones. The menu was extremely limited, no starters! Desserts were also nonexistent, however we were offered ones which looked as if they were growing fur from a on the counter shelf. Also, the owners dog just seems to stroll around you whilst you’re eating food.. I am all up for dog friendly pubs but this should not be allowed when customers are eating. However on a brighter note, I cannot fault the taste of the food, it was really yummy! I just wish there was a little bit more variety. I understand that the owners are new but I just get the feeling that they don’t really know what they’re doing! Would we visit again? Yes for the food but without the kids, we would not go back for the atmosphere.

This is one of two pubs in this, my home village. Long gone are the two 'bottle and jug' hatches; the public and saloon bars and the main front door. I wrote a review last Easter regarding terrible frozen food, but I revisited for mother's Day and I'm pleased to say everything was home cooked and delicious the kitchen had only opened a couple of days before so I think they done very well. We have booked for Easter Sunday so I hope it's just as good. I'm hoping that they might consider putting starters on the menu and maybe a couple of choices other than a roast dinner. We never got to try the puddings as they had run out of the ones we like but as I said they had only just opened. I wish them lots of luck because it's a lovely pub and I think if they get the food right they will go from strength to strength.

A real shame this as the pub itself is really quite nice and the young lady serving us was polite, efficient and friendly. This was probably the worst roast dinner I’ve ever been served. Pretty much everything was clearly frozen, from the Yorkshire’s to the vegetables. The roast spuds were deep fried so they were probably from frozen as well. The meat was easily the best part of the meal and pretty much the only edible part of it. I ate the potatos as I was so hungry. I would be amazed if there was actually a chef in the kitchen today as I don’t believe any chef would ever put his/her name to the abysmal food that we were served. I’m afraid I didn’t complain as I didn’t think that they would be able to actually do any better. There is a photo on this page of a roast dinner and it looks delicious, alas, ours was appalling.

Let me start with the positive. Went on Sunday with family for Easter lunch the staff were lovely, and made you feel very welcome, the pub had a lovely atmosphere there was also a young girl singing with an amazing voice. We were really looking forward to our meals as we were under the impression that they were home made this part of our day was a real let down. Some of us had the roast which was such a disappointment it was tasteless frozen vegetables and Yorkshire pudding the roast potatoes looked nice but when you cut into them they were just mush. My son had the fish which sounded lovely but once again it was a thin bit of frozen fish and the burger was like cardboard. Red velvet cake was shop bought but nice. To be honest we didn't complain as we were out for a family day but I think the waitress must of noticed how much food was left on our plates when she cleared them. This pub would get a 10 out of 10 if they have a chat with the chef.

The Cock is a pub / restaurant easy to find in a prominent position in Halstead Village, Kent. The pub has recently been refurbished and has modern decor, two roomy bars and a nice separate restaurant area. They have a couple of real ales to choose from, plus the usual draughts. Plenty of parking space to the rear and a beer garden with a bouncy castle for children to play in. Popular with the younger locals, I believe they also have regular weekend evening entertainment.

First time going to the C0ck Inn (cannot call it by its actual name as TripAdvisor said it has a double meaning and could be seen as a profanity). Past it a few times but never stopped off. Nice outside space with plenty of seating, but a shame there was an inflatable bouncy castle there. Staff and food were excellent. Very good selection of food on menu. The only real negative was the tiny car park as you do get idiots clearly unaware how to park with foresight of how others could get out. Overall go, visit the C@ck Inn it's a lovely pub.

First things first BEST party ever. I had my 30th party in The Cock Inn last night and I couldn't express more how great it was. I live in Dubai so was a bit worried about organising I party for 50 people at such distance but Nancy made everything so simple and easy for me. We did a barbecue which was fantastic. We had delicious burgers, chicken sausages and homemade potato salad, coleslaw and couscous. Food is such a make or break part of a party and everyone said what a high standard the food was and went back for more, every last bit went. The garden is beautiful with lots of colour flowers and fantastic if you have lots of children with you which we did. The garden is completely secure and has a bouncey castle which is in clear view so parents can relax and socialise while still being able to see the kids. We had DJ Val who was great fun! We had a mixture of ages and he catered for everyone. I would 100% use him again. The bar staff were so friendly and all knew me by name which was nice. I went back today it pick up a few bits and had a beef roast that was lovely too!All in all I can't find a negative thing to say! Thank you to all the staff!!

This was a fathers day meal first warning the bouncy castle is in full sun and was to hot to use being a hot day we went inside we were shown to our table there was 5 adults and two toddlers the table they gave us was next to the bar and was so crowed we asked if we could open the windows but they don't open they are painted shut, one of my party asked if we could move it to the next room which had air conditioning but they said no. we ordered the meal can't complain about the starters but when asked the young waiter a question about the meat she just said she did not now we asked for some garlic bread for our toddlers but they only have plain, we waited for our mains we got 5 meals and my father had ordered the whole chicken and we had to ask where his meal was eventually he received his meal with 3 sliced of chicken with so much fat the vegetable were hard and only one dish between us he complained and the took off the money and my sister burger was so dry she paid extra for the cheese and bacon and her partner pasta was the worst he had eaten we did not stop for dessert and the meal and surrounding awful.

We have been going to The Cock for about 5 years, but on our visit last Sunday I ordered roast beef. we waited 45 minuets and the meal was TERRIBLE The beef was tough the Roast potatoes were hard and the veg were only OK the gravy was like washing up water, and the meal was only just warm. On complaint I was told that they had a new chief and had a few issues that day. OK to be fair they did not charge me for the meal. But we go out to have a good lunch not a free one, it is not acceptable. Sack the New Chief. This pub had a great chief Rory and wonderful staff like Jenny, shame the new owners seem to think that employing the young kids with no experience (obviously to save money) are acceptable. We will not be going back for a long time.

Had a amazing Sunday lunch in this lovely country pub. I had the chicken and it was lovely and moist!! My husband had the beef which he said melted in your mouth and both my children had the lamb which was equally as lovely! The potatoes were fluffy on the inside and just the right amount of 'crispieness' on the outside. The pub was very busy and food did take a while to come out but it was well worth the wait. We will definitely be back

A group of 15 cyclists called in today. We had telephoned ahead to let them know that we were coming. We secured our bikes in the rear " Beer Garden" ( an ideal place to sit when the weather is nice), and then placed our food and drink orders. The staff are very friendly, the food is very fresh and well prepared, and comes at a reasonable price. I can only comment on the sandwich's, the banquettes, and the soup, ( oh, do try their homemade soup, it is excellent). All of our riders were very complimentary regarding the food. The bathrooms are also kept to a vey high standard of hygiene. All in all, a really nice visit, and on behalf of our group, I can highly recommend The Cock,at Halstead.

Went to the Cock Inn for a shared office Christmas Dinner. The staff were fantastic, the roast turkey dinner was the best restaurant roast I have ever had. The pub has a great atmosphere, and a fantastic time was had by all.

We have been to this pub for Sunday Lunch on a regular basis, It has had some rocky times, through temperamental chefs, but now things are great. Good food, the staff friendly, and service excellent. We have now been during the evening and I had the best muscles I have ever eaten. It is a must try, J & G

Came across this delightful pub and had the most amazing fish dish ever. It was a vietnamese flavoured recipe which was obviously freshly cooked with perfectly cooked veg also. The staff and landlady are so friendly also. Can't wait to go back especially in the winter when they have a roaring log fire.

Recommended here by a friend and as a family that likes its food we thought we'd give it a go. Sunday afternoon what a better way to spend it. It took about 15 minutes for our drinks to be served to the table, even though at this point in time we were 'early' and they said there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant part of the pub. We then got our starters of which were 2x pate and 2x prawn cocktail. The Pate was delicious, full of flavour and texture, definitely a great choice. On the other hand the prawn cocktail wasn't as great. The Sunday roast of which between the four of us had pork, chicken and beef thought the pork was very tough and chewy, the beef was 'okay' and the chicken was dry. Not enough gravy so they bought out some more and vegetables were sparse. The service was very slow, and it appeared there were 2 very young new waiter/waitresses serving with not a clue about anything and no support from the other waitresses. Orders had to be repeated 4x and there was a lot of 'not sure' what we do and don't offer. It was only my mum and I that ordered a pudding to share, 'homemade apple pie' and custard or cream. Well that was the worst part of the meal, it was soggy pastry of which had been put in the microwave. It wasn't hot, it wasn't that tasty or crispy. We all went away gutted about this meal as I had been told it was a great little place to eat. I won't be returning and would strongly advise going somewhere else.

This is an old fashioned country pub, not too far away from town. When we've eaten here the food has been of a good standard, but we've been disappointed on occasion to find that the kitchen has been closed. The staff are welcoming, but a general feeling that a shot of enthusiasm wouldn't go amiss!

Out for a run in the car when we saw a board advertising this place. Not very busy but had to wait over an hour for our meal. To rub the salt into the wound the landlady was regaling her friends with what bad service she had recently had in another pub where she had to wait an hour for a meal! In fairness food not bad but I was annoyed by the wait. Menu extensive but unprofessional, a typed sheet with ticks and crosses for what was on. No explanation of specials board. Apparently changing ownership. Will maybe try again then

Stopped off here today after visiting polehill rather than going to Toby's as too hot for a roast and what a lovely surprise. We both had ham egg and chips and peas. So much beautiful hand carved ham we could only just manage it chips were lovely and crisp and a huge portion eggs were beautifully cooked and even the peas tasted like they had just been shucked. Great service and friendly staff. Great little country pub highly recommend it definitely will be going again

Took a punt coming here and glad we did. This is a traditional pub in s nice country setting. Whilst the decor could do with some sprucing up we received a warm welcome. It was a Bank Holiday Monday so no specials today....which was a shame as they looked tempting. Anyway a couple of roasts from their standard menu and a shared desert later; we left happy.

We found this place after deciding not to pay over the odds for lunch at Polhill Garden Centre. We walked into a traditional quaint pub with roaring fire and friendly staff. You could almost imagine being right in the countryside. The food was what you want; simple menu, substantial, well priced, tasty and served with a smile. We will definitely be going back.I imagine the beer garden is popular in the summer and it would be best to book at weekends.

12 guys decided to have our Christmas lunch here on the 18th. There had previously been some adverse press in the Sevenoaks Chronicle about the pub, which I am happy to say was completely unfounded in our experience. One of our groups son had also previously worked in the kitchen/s and was dismissive of the Chronicle article.Unfortunately the landlady was unwell at the time of the visit, so her daughter had come up from Southampton for the week to help out. The service by staff was impeccable throughout and the food, albeit a Christmas lunch, was superb. The ambience of the pub was good and after the lunch we stayed for a few more beers and some "drunken" darts until around 5pm.I was that impressed with the pub that I will be taking my family to eat there again in the near future. We wish the Landlady a speedy recovery, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We visited recently for a Sunday evening meal with friends. The restaurant was very busy and appeared to be working quite well. We were greeted by the staff and everyone was very polite and friendly and we were made to feel welcome. They have a couple of young waters who were trying so hard not to get anything wrong and succeeded. Our Sunday roast arrived very quickly and was very enjoyable. This was soon followed by sumptuous deserts. On asking if they had any horseradish sauce was told sorry we've run out and then no more dry white wine. Advise to you keep a better stock control and don't let this happen again, could be bad for business. Before leaving, the very charming elderly lady owner came and spoke to us about her up and coming offers which sounded inviting. On asking her to let us have details she was unable due to no printing ink. So we asked if information could be sent via email, sorry but I'm not experience in this area was the reply. My reply to you is don't try and loose your new clients, this was our first visit. I might come back for he Doom bar, provided this is not allowed to run out as well.

A very good cafe offering the usual very good standard National Trust menu (sandwiches, baked potatoes, other snack meals and cakes (one reservation is, on the cake side, there could more choice for Gluten Free diets)), served by friendly, helpful staff. There's plenty of seating, both inside and outside, and, a new innovation, there is now a room where dogs are welcome. A good place to drop into when you are walking round Chartwell.

Good pub in a lovely village, staff are nice, a bit understaffed at the bar sometimes, But unfortunately both times we have been in on a Friday evening for a bite too eat, there is a drunk lady with a baby, spoke to some locals who claimed she is always in there drunk, not sure if this is true, But if it is, the staff should not allow this to happen, poor child!!!! Other than that the halloumi is amazing
