We went for lunch with very good friends who have moved to the area two months ago. We were very disappointed. I had fish and chips which was overpriced and tasteless. My husband had the grilled haddock which was equally poor. It was very scruffy and in need of some renovation. We won’t be going there again.

Overpriced frozen fish and the service was appalling. Wasn’t asked if we wanted dessert or more drinks because the staff were too busy on their mobile phones. Not sure how they’ve got previous reviews. I can only think it was relatives or the staff themselves.

Average food at an inflated price, service however was appauling. I dont mind a service charge if thats what we got ( and we spent a considerable amount of money) The food and drinks order was taken and served, then nothing. No offer of dessert or more drinks, they just sat on the stairs ignoring us and playing with their mobiles. It wasn't even a busy night. We asked for seperate bills at the beginning but were given one for us to work out. They didn't seem to know what they were doing. Never again.

I hoped our second trip to this pub would be better than the last but sadly it was worse . Staff were more interested in their phones and as the service charge is included didn’t feel the need to attempt any real service. No offer of dessert or coffee. We had to ask for more drinks and got hit with a £67 bill . Never again and it was a quiet night !

Unfortunately this visit was disappointing. Having enjoyed dining here previously, we felt underwhelmed on this occasion. Food choice was limited and added to that burgers were off the menu. We opted for the dirty chicken fries and a ploughmans and whilst they were ok, they were expensive for what they were. Once served food, we didn't see a waitress again which meant we sat for most our dinner needing a refill of drinks. We ended up going downstairs to the bar to request the bill.

Nice pub, nice staff. Ate here once before, had the best chips ever with good ham and eggs, and a good halloumi burger. Been wanting to go back since then, and made it yesterday. Menu had very few items on it, much shorter than the online menu, and we both went for the Sunday roast lamb. The gravy was OK and the beans were decently cooked. Otherwise dreadful. To make it worse the meat is served on top of a pile of mixed-up veg on top of roast potatoes, so you have to deconstruct the pile to start eating (from pics it seems this is the house style). If the potatoes ever were crispy they were given no chance under everything, and in fact they were overcooked inside while the outer layer was soggy and chewy. I imagine, given the abridged menu and the food quality, that the pub was short staffed, but given our expectations we were really disappointed. I hope it was just an off day (hence three stars overall) but sadly won't chance going back to find out. However, given all the five-star reviews and our good first visit experience I suggest that you give them the opportunity to please you.

Arranged to meet a friend here for lunch ... although there is parking behind the pub, the entrance to it is very tight but we both found a spot by the green itself which gave us 2 hours. The initial welcome was warm, and we were shown to a table near an open fire after ordering some drinks. There was a good choice of starters, mains and desserts. We decided to go straight for main. I opted for the homemade steak in ale pie and mash with seasonal vegetables. My friend opted for the fish and chips. The food was of a very good standard and the portions generous. We had freshly made coffee to follow. If you are visiting Westerham, then I highly recommend a visit for lunch or dinner.

Although previously very happy with my dining experience here, on this occasion unfortunately I felt extremely disappointed with the food and service provided. I ordered a beef roast, with a side of cauliflower cheese, which came quickly, however ... the carrots were hard and the cauliflower was brown. Definitely not fresh. I asked for fresh vegetables and was brought more carrots exactly the same as the original ones. I pointed out to the server that the cauliflower cheese looked unfit to eat, and he promised to bring some more, but he never did. My friend and I sat at our table for 45 minutes, expecting a manager to come over and check everything was ok, but noone came.

I’ve been vegetarian for almost 60 yrs and I’ve had some pretty terrible things put in front of me in restaurants but today The Grasshopper on the green in Westerham went a step further, the menu is pretty basic and the choice for vegetarians is very poor and having said that I opted for the grilled goat cheese salad as it was the best option, not what you want really on a grey wet Sunday lunch time but no choice and I guessed it was quite a safe option, The most awful disgusting wet pile of old salad leaves with sliced raw onions and god knows what with a nasty cheap round of the worst goat cheese on top was given to me ! I have never ever had such a bad pile of rubbish food served up anywhere in the world! I told the waitress and she said “oh I’ll take it off the bill “ , no sorry ! No shall I get you something else no nothing. I had to sit there and watch everybody eat while I sat with nothing in front of me . Please don’t go in this pub it is a shabby dirty dump and not worth bothering with .

Worst Sunday lunch we've ever had , should call it Sunday soup !! we had between us the chicken lamb and beef and they were terrible !! firstly the so called dinners turned up all drowning in gravy and i mean soup like thick gloopy gravy that almost covered the entire meal , this was to disguise the fact the food was just plain bad. The so called roast potatoes where just mush the carrots rock hard and inedible and the meats where tough /stringy. When we mentioned how bad this was the waitress just said thats how its done here. It was just rubbish. The desert of sticky toffee pudding was rock had on the bottom half so was inedible and the apple pie and custard was stone cold. The bill was over £200 and 90% of the food was left on the plates. On the way out we noticed we we not alone and lots of empty table with plates full of food left lying around. In summarising this was a complete waste of money and time. Never again will be go to Grasshopper on the Green for Sunday soup sorry i mean Sunday lunch!!

The best ever meal I’ve had in a very very long time. Faultless. And complimented by very friendly staff. If it was decent I would have kicked my plate.

Really wonderful pub with incredible food. Only downside is that it's expensive. It is definitely worth it.

Our first visit after the renovation. Much improved without removing features of the beautiful original building. Very busy (it was a Sunday) we enjoyed a small plate from the menu which was good. Tables are a little cramped and on this occasion most customers were accompanied by a dog/s. We like dogs but are not keen on eating with a dog a few inches from our food! (customers with dogs on laps) Would return but would be careful with seating arrangements.

We received a warm welcome on entering this charming Inn. Once seated, service was wonderful. Drink and food orders taken within reasonable time. When the food arrived, it was just wow. A steak, fish and chips, and the Rack of ribs for myself. Portions were brilliant and the quality was exceptional. I never post pictures of food dishes but had to with the ribs. If you love ribs, the whole rack of ribs is the go-to meal. We ordered desserts and all the time the staff were so friendly. I would strongly recommend visiting if in the area looking for a great meal in great surroundings. Thank you to all

The Lion is our go to restaurant and this time it surpassed our expectations. The food was excellent, well presented and served with a smile by Tina The menu offers such an excellent range of foods my wife had Chicken and Mushroom Pie and I had The Prime Beef burger with brisket of beef. All top notch.

Danny B and a lady with a trans Atlantic accent looked after our party of 6 admirably. Both were polite and professional throughout, even laughing at some poor jokes. Most of those present were returning customers. All of the meals and drinks were delivered in a timely manner. The food was very good. Many thanks for an enjoyable visit.
