Good pub in a lovely village, staff are nice, a bit understaffed at the bar sometimes, But unfortunately both times we have been in on a Friday evening for a bite too eat, there is a drunk lady with a baby, spoke to some locals who claimed she is always in there drunk, not sure if this is true, But if it is, the staff should not allow this to happen, poor child!!!! Other than that the halloumi is amazing

We gave this Pub another try, but we had the same experience. We went for Sunday dinner. The food was appalling, and the service was terrible. It's our local pub, and we want to support local businesses, but Green King really needs to sort this out. Staff refunded the food cost and attitude was fine but the meal was very poor quality. Shame as pub is in a great location with nice garden for summer drinks.

I came in today along with a large group of people & the thing which stuck out like a sore thumb was the service or rather, lack of. I waited the best part of an hour for my main, of chicken Kiev to come, which was ordered at exactly the same time as the rest of the orders for food; others in the group that had ordered the same as I’d ordered arrived near enough 30 minutes before mine had come & my order was the last to be served. Whilst eating my meal, to avoid waiting as long as I’d waited for my main to arrive, I ordered a dessert & the waitress that took the order for dessert from me was extremely rude. As I ordered, the waitress who was unidentifiable with no name badge on, though looked no older than 17 had the crassness to ask how I was going to pay for it & she meant what she said as a snub. Funnily enough, straight after I put the order forward for the dessert, it came out within two minutes, whilst again, I was still eating my main. The food was stupendous, though the food as delicious as it was, has no place in a pub where its staff members treat their customers with contempt & rudeness. The service part of my review in honesty does not deserve a single star at all & I certainly won’t be recommending the pub for food due to the slow service, however, the rudeness of the waitress would be more than enough for me to neither return to the pub itself, or recommend it. The beer glasses also lacked cleanliness as the first pint I had had a fly in it & had to be sent back. A note to the management, you need to do some house work & get staff in there that are polite & you need to ensure that your beer glasses are clean as well. It upsets me profusely that I am having to write a review as negative as this on a public forum as none of this is intended to be either defamatory or libellous as it all happened. Shameful really.

Pending review A welcome impromptu visit finished our day nicely. I visited The Bull with my wife, having had a pleasurable walk from Eynsford. The establishment was almost empty at mid afternoon. We had a drink and a light lunch. The ale was most welcome and went down a treat with our toasties. The food and service. The attention we received when we arrived was friendly, respectfully and polite. The man and woman behind the bar were both charming. We sat in the garden at the back of the pub and enjoyed the atmosphere of the establishment, the weather, the food and the drinks. The young man did visit our table once more to ensure that our food and drinks were up to standard and to ask if we needed anything else. A lovely visit.

I am not sure why the reviews for this 16th Century pub are not higher. We needed a place for six people to meet (a family reunion/birthday) and had a very pleasant afternoon here. The food was good and very reasonably priced, the service was good and, being a building with history dating back to Tudor times, the atmosphere was great. We ate inside but there is also an extensive beer garden. The steak pie and chips/mash seemed popular, as did the fish and chips. There are also veggie options (a good Beyond Meat veggie burger) but leave enough room for dessert! Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream - excellent.

The Bull Inn,situated in the lovely village of Otford Kent is owned by Greene King and is one of their premium inns. It's an ancient building with oak beams that has a large outdoor area which is beautiful. There is a car park just across the road but remember to enter your cars Reg. at the bar or risk a penalty. The inside is split into various areas so it is not all one big hubub. Food: Unlike most Greene King pubs, there are no deals on the food and the menu is more limited. The food I saw coming out of the kitchen looked good. Prices here are on the higher side which I think reflects the area and the pub itself. I ordered the nachos sharer which at over £11 is the most I have paid anywhere. The portion was not enough to share and was only just enough for one, not only the most expensive but the smallest. Tasty as it was with home made tortillas it was poor value for money ( see photos ) The staff were polite and friendly, I used the toilet and it was nice and clean. Access: For such an old building access for wheelchair users and those who have difficulty walking is quite good. Prices overall are moderate.

Had a table booked in advance for 6.30 on Sunday evening for dinner for the family. When we arrived. They announced they were no longer doing table service. Went to the bar to order and there was hardly anything left not even a single roast from an already very limited sunday menu. We all ended up having to order burgers which were not good. If we had been told on arrival that there was nothing left we would have gone elsewhere but by that point my 87 year old grandmother was already at the table and this made things difficult. This was our first time back since they recently started doing food again and we will not be returning again.

Average pub and a real disappointment after a lovely walk in the area. £10 for a cask ale and a diet coke which is completely unjustified. I’d like to commend Wayne and his team for their excellent service hosting my dad’s wake at The Bull yesterday. They really went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly, from serving the buffet food we’d provided, to the friendly bar staff, to allowing us to play our own music. We pretty much took over the whole pub for the entire day into the late evening and have had nothing but praise from our guests as to how it all went. I would like to thank Wayne and his lovely team for making a tough day enjoyable. The pub was my dad’s local and I’m so pleased we were able to give him the send-off he deserved thanks to the efforts of the team at The Bull. I’d recommend the pub as a venue to host your functions. When it comes to supporting local businesses, it’s so important to ‘use it or lose it’. (I can’t comment/give stars for the food as we provided it ourselves).

Went to The Bull for a belated Mothers a Day lunch. We were met by a surly woman who showed us to our table. It was a tiny, round table, supposedly for a family of four - we are a very, very tall family and had no leg room. I asked if we could sit at one of the other empty tables. The woman refused saying they were reserved - they clearly had bookings (as did we), but individuals had not selected their table, so she was just being deliberately obstructive instead of resolving a simple issue and it clearly became a pathetic way for her to exert control. After an hour and a half people came and sat at the tables, but one was a group of three and would have made more sense to switch around the bookings. I complained to one of the waitresses but no-one came to speak to us about it. We were served by a lovely young man (sandy hair and glasses) who had wanted to accommodate our request, but the other woman refused. I wish we had felt happier and more comfortable, as he did a very good job. The meal was mediocre. Burgers were burnt round the edge and had no salad or vegetables. The portion of meat on the roasts was very small, although the meat was good. I have been to The Bull many times, but wouldn’t return, as customer service is clearly low on their priority. And if management are reading this, the front of house woman is really not doing anything for the reputation of the pub…I really hope she isn’t management! Perhaps a course is required!

Visited for lunch. 12:30 29/11/23 Table for 3 Signage told me to input the car registration on the screen in the bar. Both screens not working. Manager had to be found to get then up and running. Not a good start. The young lady behind the bar, we did not see smile once. She gave the impression, that she didn’t want to be there. No real friendly welcome at all. A really nice pub, with character. Menu basically standard “Brakes” type food, it felt centrally bought, with nothing made on site. The vegan burger and the steak pie, were deemed to be good and tasty, and well presented. The Traditional Christmas Dinner @ £16.95 a disappointment. Ordered without the brussel sprouts (who likes brussel sprouts ?), and just carrots and roast potatoes as vegetables. I got an under whelming plate of food. 2 slices of turkey breast (at least it was not processed), a good portion of roast potatoes, that were just out of a freezer bag, and not crisp, and a small portion of sliced carrots that had been fried. No sign of pigs in blankets, stuffing or yorkshire pud. Did finally get “one” pig in a blanket, but stuffing/yorkshire pudding, apparently was not included. Best part of the meal was the gravy. Certainly not worth £16.95. Then on to puddings, apple tart and christmas pudding were all deemed to be good. But, not enhanced by our unsmiling barmaid, just throwing 3 spoons on to the table, no forks or extra paper napkins. Not service at it’s best. Overall, we enjoyed the meal, but felt for menu choice and quality, it was well over priced.

This pub SHOULD be outstanding. It sits in the heart of a pretty Kent village. The building itself has so much history and has two original Tudor fireplaces. Large, inviting garden area. Ample parking, if not on site, then just across the road in the public car park. However, what lets it down is the service. The staff that are there generally try very hard, but, typically there will be too few staff and those that are there, generally are not experienced enough in my opinion. Let’s give a few examples of the service you should expect……don’t expect service if you want to have your meal in the garden, normally there are not enough staff for that. One time I went (about three years back) and there was no beer! Another time there was no coffee (apparently the coffee machine was broken). Of course, these things do happen, but when, a week later, I still couldn’t get coffee because the machine was still broken, you have to question whether the management actually care. One time the wine I wanted was not available so I asked for something similar and the young chap behind the bar was unable to help because he just didn’t know anything about wine. Another time I popped in for a lunch time drink and was greeted with “You don’t want food do you.” (Not even a “Hello”)! And so to my last visit. My wife and I booked a table for lunch. We were surprised to find a “short” menu, not the same as the menu published on the website. So I asked for the full menu and was told this WAS the full menu. Amongst other things the Pork Belly was missing (a favourite of my wife’s and a dish strongly recommended if it ever reappears!). We were so disappointed with the menu that we left. I did ask the waitress to tell the manager about our disappointment, but we heard nothing. I also completed the ‘contact us’ form on their website and I completed the emailed customer satisfaction survey that you get after every visit - not even an acknowledgement. So, in summary, I would say this is a great place to go for a drink and a meal, provided you are prepared to accept sub-standard service.

We decided to take advantage of the lovely 'indian summer' weather on Mon 9th Oct 2023 and drive out from our home in South London to Otford for lunch. I remembered The Bull in Otford and suggested it might be a pleasant place to try. We initially chose a table inside but in view of the excellent weather decided to re-locate to the beer garden. Sat at a nice table, complete with parasol. Perused menu, made choices and went to bar to order. Having ordered and paid (over £40), I was told that food could not be served outside because they were 'short staffed'. I politely suggested that opening a door and walking a few extra yards was hardly going to overstretch their staff, particularly as the pub was not busy - it was, as mentioned earlier, a Monday. The bar worker kindly suggested that I could speak to the Manager. The Manager's response was disappointingly the same, obstructive, indifferent and unhelpful. We were forced to come back inside and waste the opportunity to dine in the nice sunshine. The food when it arrived, was adequate, pleasant enough but otherwise unexceptional. Service was similar - adequate, unexceptional - but could have been more friendly. The whole experience was spoilt because of the unhelpful attitude of the staff, particularly the Manager. I hope that Greene King take appropriate action and replace her with someone with the necessary people skills for this role. I shall probably never find out because I will not be visiting this establishment again.

I visited the establishment 6th October. My first opinions was chaotic, service was very slow on the bar, this was due to lack of staff, all I could see was one young girl on the bar who had some sort of wrist injury, who absolutely owned the bar, even with the extend of customers demands she managed exceptionally well. Also controlled the bar and restaurant like a boss. I overheard many complaints due to waiting times for drinks, but surprisingly she managed to deal with these complaints so well, each complaint was dealt with and customers return back to being happy and calm. I wanted to tip this young lady with a drink after service for a Thankyou for her amazing job. (She definitely deserves a promotion to bar management) she kindly rejected saying and I quote ‘’ that’s very kind of you but I don’t need a reward for my job, as I’m doing what I love already’’ I was advised on waiting times on food 30mins. Which food promptly arrived quicker. This was amazing the bull burger, perfectly cooked and the sauce matched the pork amazingly, I will definitely be returning in the future,

From previous, very enjoyable visits, this last one was really disappointing. I can only think of the food as totally erratic. I had ordered the fish and chips, which proved, essentially, to be batter and chips:_the batter was not even very good to eat. It was as if the fish had swum away in the face of the overwhelming batter. The amount of actual fish was negligible beside the inordinate amount of batter. Online, I had complained three times. This had been ignored. This whole experience is too unreliable. I won’t be going back there. Yvonne Campbell

My friends and I have been periodically visiting The Bull for 25 years, so it was fascinating to revisit the establishment after a three hiatus caused by Covid and a kitchen closure. I used the user friendly booking system to reserve a table for two for Sunday lunch. Unfortunately the first impression was not good- as the initial greeting lacked warmth. Thereafter things picked up considerably and we felt the service was professional and polite. The menu has been cut considerably since our last visit. This is fully understandable. as previously the choice was unwieldy and must have been a nightmare for the kitchen. However, it did mean there was most no roast lamb, which is a particular favourite of ours. I was very impressed with the generous portions though, and the overall quality of the main course of roast beef, and the dessert of apple pie, was high. Good value for money too. One little point is that when leaving, it is nice to be thanked for one’s custom. That was unfortunately lacking. Overall it was a high satisfactory visit to an old friend. With a few tweaks, I would be happy to give a 5 star rating.

Food was overcooked , I ordered fish and chips and the fish was almost brown in colour where it was over cooked and my wife had the Korean chicken burger which was also way to overcooked .Nice atmosphere but its a shame about the food . The food if cooked properly would have been very nice its a shame as we have been thinking about going to this pub for years and when we finally did get round to it we wasn't very impressed with the cooking . I also wanted steak but they said they didn't have any.....

Oh dear ….: Woeful experience the place is being run by 3 young people. First you have to wait 10 mins to be served at the bar as no table service. Then you are told food is 45 minute wait. ‘ Is that for starters as well, we only want soup’ ‘ that’s for everything’ finally food arrives cold and obviously pre prepared …. Not one for posting usually but this is the second time and it’s got worse not better. Greene King you are mismanaging and missing a huge opportunity you could be covering each table 3 times over instead the place was empty at 3pm. We didn’t stay for pudding stopped at McDs for ice cream.

This pub can be erratic, we come quite alot and rarely eat as it is so erratic, but this time we were very impressed so it deserves a good review. We visited around 5pm on a Friday. The pub was beginning to get fairly busy. As per usual there was only one bar staff on - not seen her before as she is quite new but friendly, quick, proactive and easily the best there for some time - well done. We ordered food too - all had various burgers and one starter (squid) to share too - this all came quickly from another new and friendly (male) member of staff. The food was very tasty. Impressive, thank you. Please please keep this up and keep hold of these staff! They are excellent.

I've been visiting the Bull a Otford for a few years, whilst waiting to take my daughter home from netball. No problem until June 2023, when I got an aggressive 'gotcha' letter from euro car parks saying I owed £100.00 for 'parking without authorisation' at the Bull. Presumably the pub has put in a new system. Whatever The Bull has done, it wasn't obvious to their regular customers - I'm not the only person caught out, as you can see from TripAdvisor. I have not paid the fine, which has (early September) been quickly passed onto an aggressive debt collecting agency who now want £170.00. The pub seems to be owned by a large brewing chain - Greene King - who seem to now be using the car park to try to make more money from their customers. Presumably they had a problem with people parking and not using the pub. Well, now I will not use the car-park or the pub. The Bull and Greene King clearly despise their regular customers. And you have to wonder, if they are is willing to do this, what else is going on there?

We were very impressed. The service was excellent and the food matched it. This pub has had its ups and downs over the years but it was clear today that there is a fresh approach and it was good to see. We’ll be back.

Don't expect to turn up and just order something to eat. Bank Holiday it was yes,but 2pm get told no food until 5pm as kitchen is "overwhelmed". Place wasn't even half full! In fact counted four tables looking like ready to eat.. Complete joke, only wanted a sandwich, maybe some chips. Obviously don't want to make any money. But no doubt complain about the pub trade being killed by taxation etc etc. Sort your service out, shouldn't need to book for a snack!! Avoid, don't expect to just turn up and order.

Lovely old pub. Had roast beef lunch...........beef like shoe leather, veg was dry and horrible, the gravy was lumpy and over salty. The only good thing....just about....were the roast potatoes. Would have been better off with a McDonalds......edible and cheaper! Very disappointed. Staff not too...

Large qwerky pub with onsite car park and spacious garden with lots of space for dogs and children. Menu is allways being updated and portions sizes and quality are well worth the cost. Across the road is also a larger car park with electric car chargers.

Good food and service, but kitchen closed before we had chance to order desserts, which was frustrating as it was only just after 8pm. I can't reply to the owners comment, but it was a staff member that had been serving us all evening that told us the kitchen was closed and that I couldn't order desserts. I believe she was new, so probably just inexperience.

They had run out of the beer my husband ordered. Two of the three vegetarian/vegan dishes were unavailable. The only one available had chilis in it. So I had to have a small baked potato. At the end of the meal we were going to order a cappuccino and two Earl Gray teas. The coffee machine was broken, and the member of staff didn't know where the teabags were. Fortunately her colleague found some, but only English Breakfast. We won't be rushing back.

A very good cafe offering the usual very good standard National Trust menu (sandwiches, baked potatoes, other snack meals and cakes (one reservation is, on the cake side, there could more choice for Gluten Free diets)), served by friendly, helpful staff. There's plenty of seating, both inside and outside, and, a new innovation, there is now a room where dogs are welcome. A good place to drop into when you are walking round Chartwell.

We used to live in the village for many years and it seemed fitting to arrange our mothers wake at the pub we used to pop into for drinks or food over the years. Staff were so friendly and attentive, food was great and even had some left over! We were lucky to have amazing weather and we enjoyed all sitting outside in the garden where there was plenty of seating to seat 50 plus people. Highly recommend
