The best restaurants serving British food in South East

Beef tough,had to ask for a steak knife,not enough vegetables.Went home hungry,dont waste yor money going here.Went home and had food in the house as it didnt fill me.

Popped in on our way home from the Christmas Market in town and wished we hadn’t. It was the most baffling and unwelcoming experience I think I have ever had. We were rudely told by the landlord there was a private function and we were not welcome there. It did not seem exclusive though as the barmaid seemed to be willing to take our order and there was no clear sign outside but having been sworn at and told he doesn’t need our f…ing money we felt that we would never step foot let alone spend any money there again. It was an upsetting encounter. As far from a hospitable experience as you can get!

We enjoyed Afternoon Tea at the Cloisters. All the food was very good in a beautiful historic restaurant with great views. Kellie gave exceptional service, making sure we were happy and looked after at every step of the way.

£26.50 for a day pass, although asked for £30 which includes donation. Our party was made up of 5 adults - we didn’t donate. To put into context, my husband and I have been members of Marwell in our days before our children. It holds a special place in our hearts. We moved away but always managed to make at least 2 visits a year as the children grew up & still do - the kids are now into their 20’s and often visit with us. Sadly the experience over the last 10 -15 years has progressively gotten worse. Every time we go we hope it will be better. Marwell was always at the forefront of conservation and education & had an extremely successful breeding program for the rhinos and giraffes. Much money has been spent on enclosures that didn’t work, the snow leopards, the cheeta, the walkway over the persian leopard, now cloud leopard, the new tropical house, the gibbon enclosure, kids play areas. Now it is a shell. Few animals, lots of paddocks full of weeds, & plastic bottles & little or no information. The annual membership is a steal but place feels more of a kiddies play area than a serious home for conservation and education. It’s expensive and disappointing. Bit on context - The Cotswold Wildlife Park is £19 for an adult. A much smaller facility but full of animals and information & staff happy to help and answer questions.

We picked our new puppy up in November and on Christmas Eve we took a drive to Littlehampton Beach knowing it is dog friendly. My only negative is signage to get to West Beach is extremely poor. After a great walk, we headed to West Beach Cafe to warm up and grab a bite to eat. We were greeted by the owner who was so upbeat, friendly and chatty. The food is cooked to order and delicious. Our doggy was made very welcome and given treats. We had such a great experience, we went back in January to celebrate our birthdays and once again finished our day off with a visit to the cafe. Another great visit....in the words of Arnie... we'll be back! ❤️

We don't go so much since the restaurant offers on the app have changed. Now finding other places with better offers. The cake is definitely getting smaller. We think it's funny how they try to make the cake look bigger by putting it on smaller plates. The coffee could be better. The staff are lovely particularly in the restaurant. Toby and kiera are always happy to help. Plenty to see as this is one of the bigger garden centres. A good selection of products.

Un grupo de nosotros tuvimos almuerzo de Navidad allí hoy y fue excelente. Todo estaba recién cocinado - - terrina con chutney casero, un pavo obviamente cocinado en casa con todos los adornos, pudín de Navidad con salsa de brandy y café y un delicioso pastel picado. Todo hecho en sus propias cocinas y servido por personal muy amable y dispuesto que quería un favor. Pagamos £ 20 por cabeza, que es más que excelente relación calidad-precio cuando uno piensa en los precios en los restaurantes de Chichester y por lo que no tengo tiempo para las personas que hacen quejas sobre las verduras u otros pequeños niggles. Cuando se mira la relación calidad-precio general, este menú sería difícil de superar. Gracias por darnos un almuerzo de Navidad tan agradable

We have visited Eastbourne once a year for several years and always visit The Town House, partly because it was nearest our hotel but mainly for the music and vibe. In 2022 we found it quiet, in 2023 it was closed, albeit temporarily. This year, May Bank Holiday, it was open but quiet and no atmosphere. We'll try again next year.

Decided to go out for breakfast with wife and daughter now she's off for Christmas from work Very small cafe with limited space to eat and chat if I'm honest. We waiting by the door and was escorted to a nice clean fresh table with fresh clear cutlery, no music playing which was a real treat given the time of the year. Wife and my daughter ordered sausage sandwich and I had the breakfast with my tomato swapped out for mushrooms Food came out fast with clean well set out plates but it was tasteless if I'm honest Beans were in a very small pot, toast was tiny slices but with butter so can't really moan at that as most places forget the butter Sausages for all of us were the real issue, felt like they were microwaved when you eat them and not seen any real heat as they were the same colour as the white walls 🙄 Daughters iced coffee was so full of ice that had not real liquid in it unfortunately as the girth of the glass was so thin I paid and probably will not be back as food undercooked at best but amount was good. But the way it was worded on the menu gave the impression it's a "BIG" breakfast... Definitely not that!

We had a children's fish and chips, which was very tasty. Large enough for an light adults dinner. We would definitely go back.

We attended Christmas Day dinner with family and couldn’t have been more impressed. The hotel’s timeless Christmas decorations perfectly complemented the decor, creating a festive yet elegant atmosphere. The bar area, where we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks, was cozy and relaxing, while the restaurant itself was beautifully decorated, enhancing the holiday spirit. The traditional Christmas dinner was exceptional, the tastiest meal we’ve had on Christmas in years! The starters were delicious and beautifully presented, and the entire meal was outstanding in flavor and quality. Service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring our day was truly special. A big thank you to the team for making it such a memorable experience. We had the best time and can’t wait to return!”

The food and service were very good both in quantity and and quality. The ambiance of the place was also very pleasant. Where we felt it was lacking was in the choice as the menu selection was not that great

We went to the Bell on Sunday with our family for a Sunday roast. Warm and welcoming as it always was, new chef, so glad the pub is open again. Lovely big garden, great food and even better service.

We found Kates Cottage last year and come here every time we visit the Island. The ladies who serve are very friendly and we get a warm greeting. Our little cockapoo is also welcome. We mainly have the OAPs roast dinner which comes with a dessert included in the price. On both lunch visits last week we had roast lamb, roast potatoes, green beans, peas and carrots. The beans and carrots both freshly cooked. With our desserts and two big mugs of tea our total bill was £19 each visit which was excellent value. We have always found Kates Cottage clean and a lovely atmosphere. We look forward to seeing everyone again when we are next on the Island. We recommend as there is a good choice on the menu for everyone. My husband is a coeliac and he was catered for.

Saw an advert on Facebook for Sunday Dinner with "Kids Eat Free" so decided to take advantage, and take the family. My wife, 3 children and grandparents had a fantastic Sunday Roast and look forward to returning in the future. At £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 courses, the meal we enjoyed today offered exceptional value for money. Between us, we enjoyed 2 starters (both had smoked salmon), 7 main courses (4 x Roast Beef, 1 x Roast Chicken and 2 x Fish & Chips) and then x6 desserts (a selection of ice cream sundae's, chocolate brownies and cheese and biscuits). Given the quality of the food, and the service too, I would be very pleased to return on a Sunday when the kids meals are to be paid for...... it was that good. We already can't wait to return.
