So lunch for 4, 2 courses and a sorbet 2 not so large glasses of wine and a couple of pints. £250! So it must have been amazing, actually not really very mediocre, starters were very small and mains took very little skill. Told off for delaying the chef from his break!! It’s a shame as this used to be a great fun pub but with ridiculous prices like this and questionable service atitude no wonder there were only 2 other people having lunch.

Whilst the staff were very helpful and the venue - very smart - I was disappointed, having chosen the signature dish (calves liver), to find gristle in the dish and the liver bit particularly well cooked. Having had this choice in the past and been extremely pleased with my meal - today’s meal I am afraid was very disappointing.

Really quiet but the only other booking was sat right beside us. Fortunately they were lovely people. We ordered scotch eggs frombthr menu starters but were then advised they were no longer on the menu. I ordered the lamb shank, seemed expensive at £33 but sounded lovely so I went for it. The spiced cous cous was bland, the chick peas tagine had raw carrot in it and the lamb was dry and I couldn't get the meat of the bone, even with a steak knife that I asked for. When asked if meal was ok I explained not really and why - the lovely waitress said she would speak to the manager and came back and offered me a free dessert. I went home still hungry. So disappointed, we live locally and this place used to be lovely, we won't be going back.

We had a family party of 10 and the pub was very efficient, serving the little ones first. Whilst we went for the typical Sunday lunch, none of us had it as there were other interesting items on the menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The devilled kidneys were particularly good and very unusual to see at a pub these days. Thoroughly recommend it as the food AND the service was excellent.

First visit but we will definitely be back.

We booked ahead & had the lunch outside in the lovely sunny garden & ordered a local Upperton fizz to sample the local vineyard! Really good bubbles dry & crisp! We were all hungry & looking forward to our Sunday roast dinners , we chose chicken & roast beef dinners with all the trimmings of roasties , veggies & Yorkshire puddings. Unfortunately the roast chicken dinners had been waiting for us … it was hard to cut everything incl the veg & they had no cauliflower cheese left so the “ extra veg” was leeks in butter which actually was the only thing easy to cut & eat! Soo soo disappointing & the beef was defin underdone even though the order had specifically been requested to mid well done … we did hear that this has happened before re the cauliflower/ cheese ! An order was given for desserts & that was the best food of the whole meal Bakewell tart with cherry’s that had been marinaded in cherry liqueur really good with vanilla ice cream ! However I very much doubt if we will be back not happy customers at all !

We had a lovely meal here. We both had an asparagus starter, sourced from the farm next door which was very good. I followed this with Guinea fowl with a green bean and mushroom medley and my husband had steak. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and very tasty. The room was absolutely wonderful. Clean and airy with beautiful beams. Bed was comfy. We ate in the restaurant both nights as we didn’t want to venture out much. Food was really good and breakfast was delicious. Overall a lovely comfortable stay. The only disappointment was the 12% service charge. Even when we had lunch in the bar, which consisted of a scotch egg and a portion of chips there was the same service charge. Would def go back for the accommodation but would eat somewhere else. The lady who served our first morning breakfast was lovely but can’t remember her name. She was very efficient and friendly.

Went for Sunday lunch with family, this was pre ordered as we were a large group. We knew this place was on the expensive side and none of us had an issue with that but if the price doesn't match the quality that's not right and in this case it just doesn't. The venison was priced at 25 pound, simple not of the quality to justify that price and I'd have to say the other roast dinners whilst of a reasonable quality are still over priced. One of the puddings was ridiculously expensive, cheese cake (deconstructed!) for £8 pounds and I kid you not it was about 2mouthfuls of food. On a plus note the summer pudding was lovely. Gentleman behind the bar was pretty rude to my husband when he asked for a jug of water and a few glasses to have outside in the garden after the meal was finished, baring in mind we'd spent over £400 on the food . My advice would be try some of the other local village pubs instead.

Last visited a few months ago when we had a lovely family meal but today's experience was very disappointing. My partner and I both opted for the roast sirloin of beef. Whilst it was served fairly promptly the meat was overdone and gristly. The roast potatoes were passable but with no crisp and the vegetables uninspiring. At £19.50 per head for the beef, I'm afraid it represented poor value. When I told the more senior waitress of our opinion I was offered a cup of coffee as compensation. When the bill arrived I noted a 12.5% service charge, which, in view of our experience, I declined to pay ( only to express our dissatisfaction with the food, as ironically, the service was efficient and friendly ). A shame, as we have previously recommended the restaurant to friends.

Booked for lunch just after Covid-19 lock-down had ended, as we had been a couple of times in the past and enjoyed the outdoor seating and food. We enquired as to what the soup was, the gentleman had to think and then said: Carrot and Parsnip. We both thought that sounded lovely, although a bit autumnal, and ordered this along side a main course each. When the soup arrived, the colour did not look much like carrot and, upon tasting, we found it to be exceedingly spicy. We asked the young lady who brought our drinks, whether this truly was Carrot & Parsnip, whereupon she advised us that the soup was actually Curry Parsnip - something that we would never have ordered. My partner ate none of her soup and I made a valiant effort to at least try a bit. Later on, the gentleman came to our table and delivered a lecture to us to the effect that he had gone to public school and had been told he had a very posh accent. Us not being English, we were probably not familiar with either Curry or his accent and maybe he should have spoken in a more common accent. We have lived and worked in England for more than 30 years and have an exceedingly good grasp of the language. Such condescension and insult to a guest was quite a shock to us. We did not even think to question the fact that we were still charged in full for both soups and no apology was offered. I have worked in the hospitality industry and this is not how you treat guests. This gentleman obviously rates 'being superior' over ensuring that guests enjoy themselves and return - something we most certainly will not do.

West for a Monday afternoon drive with a mate to Petworth, and without agenda diverted off to this little village of Lodsworth nearby and stumbled across this little gem.Situated on the A272 it has ample parking and a welcoming appearance. We didn't have a booking and just rocked up, but judging by how busy it got and the amount of telephone bookings they were taking it may be a place to book ahead to avoid disappointment. We were warmly welcomed by staff and asked if we were lunch dining, and shown to a choice of tables. The environment was also warm and welcoming with lots of little attentions to detail and cleanliness. We ordered drinks from the table and our two longed for lagers were swiftly delivered. The menus look very enticing, but we wanted a lightish lunch and opted for their signature Halfway Bridge Burger, served up with cheese, bacon, focaccia bun and triple cooked chips and sauces.Food arrived very quickly and we were very impressed with the food and presentation. We were both left highly satisfied and bursting round the waistline for the afternoon. All in the two lunches and 2 pints came in shy of £40 which to be fair is what you would expect to pay in any country pub, and with the ambience and setting it was well worth stumbling on this establishment.I enquired into gluten free options which I was assured they did for future reference and this is always double checked with the kitchen prior to ordering.Would be very happy to revisit in the near future.

I am local and have frequented this place for a few years now. It is fabulous; the food is beautiful, the manager (Martin) is excellent at his profession. However the owner, I feel, has no passion for the business. He is ignoring the little touches that make pubs like this worth going to. For example, the many candles which once made the rooms warm, have been swapped for quite frankly ugly, fake ones. Also, the menus which I understand are written by the chef and owner are misspelled. For example, the salmon “cracking”, which I was told by my waitress was meant to say “crackling”. How can something like this be missed? Upon brining it up with my waitress, she explained that this had been bought to the owners attention but he hasn’t done anything about it yet. There was also an incident with “fetta” cheese... Despite the owners lack of care and attention to detail the pub is lovely, warming and a perfect retreat for a blustery Sunday afternoon. Thank you to Martin and the Team.

We have been coming here for almost 5 years for evenings out/dinners. we have stayed here too for the last 3 years! The pub itself has a great cosy and warm atmosphere with its amazing fire and rustic surroundings. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. We love the breakfast! We feel the evening menu could be a little more varied and maybe a few more gastro pub type meals like steak & ale pie etc, it's lovely food but after one night eating there you might want to go out the other night. We tried a fantastic Indian this time in Petworth town centre called Meghdooths and it was absolutely fantastic and worth a visit, a lovely family run Indian! The rooms are out the back in the old barns, they are all beautiful however maybe avoid room 5 in the winter as it was a little drafty with the big windows and the front door had a little draft too, they moved us with no problem once we said about it so they were very accommodating. We love room 3 which we've stayed in twice now and also room 2 was lovely too! You get tea/coffee/biscuits in the rooms and they all feel like a home from home!A lovely place to stay

There are a number of good things about this restaurant and most of the reviews are positive. We had lunch on a busy Sunday. The decor is modern and tasteful and no shortage of waiting staff in professional looking outfits plus presumably a manager. Service was discreet and swift. However, we felt overall the lunch fell short. The quantities of the starter and main course seemed completely unbalanced. The starters are served on huge plates but one starter of beetroot and marinated trout - the trout was stringy and perhaps only an ounce. It was not very appetising. One of us had the roast pork lunch. The quantities were huge. The pork was tender, The roast potatoes looked delicious but the flavour did not deliver. There were about 4 vegetables. The liver dish was good. We finished with a couple of scoops of ice cream which is supplied by a local supplier. It was nothing like ice cream and had rather a strange taste. I think the cook needs to check this out! Overall disappointed considering the prices.

We chose burgers (some of the largest any of us had ever eaten), roast beef Sunday lunch (rated as a 10 by our resident Sunday lunch aficionado), calves liver and fish and chips for kids. The restaurant does not have a kids menu but does make kids' portions at kid prices. All superb. Dessert was ice cream and a cherry mousse special which was beautifully presented and very tasty. Having done a glorious walk from Midhurst through some beautiful West Sussex farmland this road side pub was a terrific find. We have already eaten at, and enjoyed, several local pubs but fancied doing some research on somewhere new. It would appear this part of Sussex has plenty of good eateries to offer. The welcome was friendly and we were impressed with the bar staff who looked after us well. The menu offers a very good option of having a sandwich as a salad which both of us opted for. Sometimes you don’t want bread but like the look of the fillings. To supplement this, we had after all done a long walk, we ordered a side of chips to share and my only disapointment was they only do fat hand cut chips. Now I know a lot of people like these but to my mind you’re straying into the realms of roast potatoes, maybe a choice of fat or skinny chips would have made this a perfect lunch.

We also stayed at the Halfway Bridge. The menu. although limited, was excellent. Enough choices to make a stay of 4 nights more than memorable.

Went for a family evening meal on Saturday. The food was superb! I had prawn cocktail to start which was lovely. Pudding was delicious, and the trout was amazing lovely almond butter. Can't wait to go back. Service was excellent too!

Lunch on a Saturday to catch up with chums. We chose it because it was about halfway between where we both live - so seemed appropriate! Very friendly service good lunchtime set menu which suited five out of six of us. We were in a big nook so reasonably private and very cosy. Excellent food if slightly 'Masterchef'!! Lovely generously sized plates and bowls. Four people chose 'affogato' which was not on the dessert menu but provided without any problem, except that the expresso was cold!!

This is not somewhere you can miss on the road from Petworth yet we have missed visiting this restaurant for some time until now when we met friends for lunch. The welcome and service was warm but sometimes a bit too quick for old slowcoach here! The food was served quickly, well presented and certainly well prepared although I did keep feeling left wanting after each course but there again perhaps I am a bit greedy and should have ordered from the À la carte menu. I have to say that the overall bill was a bit more than we expected due mainly to our misunderstanding of being able to swap our deserts from the two-course set menu and the À la carte which hiked our final bill quite considerably. We should have realised this and will be more aware next time around. Overall we left content but wish we had been gently reminded that the "mixed menu" items would be extras.

Sunday lunch for 6, the meals were luke warm served on cold plates, 3 of the meals were returned and came back only slightly warmer, except the mashed carrot (i think) which was piping hot like it had come out of the microwave. The only reason it gets a 2 star and not one is because the deserts were nice. Staff were friendly.

A real country pub atmosphere, modernised with extremely comfortable chairs and well spaced tables. We were given two menus, the table d'hote priced at £22 for 2 courses or £26 for 3 courses and good choices. The A la carte menu was varied with something...

Try the Halfway Bridge for the first time for lunch recently. Staff were very attentive, lovely amostphere with roaring fires burning. I went for the 3 courses menu which was £26 and all very tasty and beautifully presented. The staff were ever so friendly and seem to take a really interesting in the customers. The head Chef who pass by our table even stopped to ask how are meal was. Definitely worth a trip and highly recommend.Thank you for a really lovely lunch.

this is more a wine bar experience i m describing here.I had a chat with the owner and the head barman and some of the waiters and waitresses , and all seem very professionals . I had some wines at the bar a few times with friends , the wines are very good in their own category ; like I had a great glass of pinot noir from the south of France for eg , and quite a few dfft grape varieties and everytime spot on.

We booked a Sunday night at the hotel, which was quite good, but not the restaurant. Came down to dinner Sunday evening and were offered the a la carte menu. One first course of liver was partially raw, sent back and not charged for. When desert came it was on the 'daily specials' menu and the penny dropped - we could have had Sunday Roast at a lower rate. Waitress just said she was sorry for the error. Service slow and poor. Next morning full English breakfast chaotic wrong items toast 20 mins before hot food. Noisy kitchen staff sound of banter laughing and pop music from kitchen. Staff crouch down by the side of the hotel smoking, not inspiring. This place needs a total re-think

This place is always busy around lunchtime, hardly surprising given the value. Sadly, I have recently found that my clothes have smelt of smoke after I leave, which is unusual these days. I have also found the food to sometimes be undercooked, which can spoil things. Whilst I respect the concept, this place is a victim of it's own success, offering value that is head and shoulders above anywhere else of it's kind.
