Friendly staff greeted me after a long day on a two day course in Chichester. The pub had stopped serving food when I arrived, But they allowed me to bring a takeaway into the pub. Unfortunately I stayed in room 8 . The mattress was con-caved in areas and you could feel the springs through the mattress didn't sleep at all. And felt awful In the morning . The upholstered chair was covered in black animal hair . I had a bacon sandwich for breakfast that was unfortunately very salty. A nice lady asked if I had a good night at check out . I said no not really and wanted to cry ! Such a shame

Popped in on Friday lunch, place was quiet, as entered there was a sign 2-4-1 drinks all day, caught our eye, as approaching bar there was nobody in sight, along came a young man in all black behind bar, approach us, he said "what do you want" we ordered drinks and when he started pouring I asked "are these part of the offer " he replied with, well I was putting a double in one glass" bar servers attitude was bad as understatement, so on serving drinks the glasses had lipstick on them, my partner said not too confront him as he obviously prefers standing on his phone behind the bar, obviously not what he should be doing, will definitely not be ordering anything else as was planning on ordering food but will go elsewhere......

It was the second time we stayed at The Vestry. The rooms are very clean and had some nice touches in the room. The rooms are above the pub/club so expect a bit of noise but to be honest we found it wasn't the music from downstairs; it was from a club a few doors down. Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. We had a great stay and will definitely go back.

The Vestry is a pub with accommodation in the heart of Chichester. The rooms were spacious and clean with a large bed. The breakfasts were good and plentiful with good options and Sam, who looked after us, was great. We were aware before we booked that there would be loud music in the bar from Thursday through to Sunday and also the bar was packed with students on those nights. We stayed Monday to Friday so were only affected the one night. As long as you know that you can’t complain and I have to say that after a busy day once our head hit the pillow the music did not stop us getting to sleep. One thing to be aware of in Chichester though, is that there is a really poor internet connection.

By far the best place to go for a cracking drinks deal! 2-for-1 on all drinks EVERY DAY during the day, it’s even extending until their closing time on a Wednesday! Seems to be a great vibe in there most evenings, karaoke on a monday,...

Arrived around 7pm on Friday evening. Doorman asked if we were staying at the "hotel", we replied "no", just having a drink and entered inside. Sat in the front section and were served immediately but at high cost. The main section behind us was busy with all booths packed with 5/6/7 young people in each. Music was loud, rap, modern, we didn't mind, though a mature couple we enjoy it. Obviously a pub for the younger generation which explained the doorman's question and amused us. Then, we began to notice the other patrons more. Most wore no masks walking in, out and around the pub. They were young - yes, but though many did not look it, the legal drinking age is 18 so they should be wearing masks. We felt at Covid risk and left after our drink.

Poor Covid awareness. Tables VERY close together. Grumpy staff and only burgers to eat. Muchh better to go somewhere else.

The hotel rooms are set above the bar which is quite lively and appears to attract a lot of regulars, especially young people. It's not a pub I would choose to drink in; however, the hotel room was absolutely fine - it was clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast in the pub the next morning was also good. For the money, I was happy!

Booked for 3 nights. Arrived at 2 pm, left at 2.05 pm. More a barn than a bar. Clientele a mixture of all-day drinkers and students. Bar furniture was filthy and staff non existent. Got charged £75 for “late cancellation! Don’t bother!!

Their staff are so rude especially 2 of the bouncers and 2 females they think they are guarding the queen it’s nice to think that if you where in their you would be safe but NO, you are definitely not you get pulled out for no reason and they are extremely sexist. They need to learn customer service. I went in their and my friend got kicked out for no reason when we asked they said too drunk but she only had water that night as she was drinking they didn’t believe her. They need to change their attitude I honestly don’t know how it’s still up and running if you want to get thrown out for no reason then this is the pub for you. As one of the few happening places in Chichester, my friends and I regularly enjoy a night out at this establishment. Whilst I often find this place distasteful, the events of last night were the last straw for me. After approximately 2 hours of dancing and hanging out with my friends, I suddenly found myself wondering alone, however, I was not concerned as it is not a large place. Soon after this occurrence, a rather large 'bouncer' grabbed my arm and asked me to leave. I therefore challenged this by asking 'why', to which he replied, rather brashly, 'you're too drunk'. I understand that bouncers must do their job in preventing any antisocial behaviour, however in this case I was absolutely shocked by the way I was handled. Firstly, I was not 'drunk' as I had only consumed 2 alcoholic beverages or approximately 3.5 units. Secondly, I am a respectable young woman who does not inflict trouble, and the way in which I was spoken to was as if I was a juvenile criminal. Lastly, I do not believe that these 'bouncers' are allowed to physically and legally handle me in such a manner, or any young women, for that matter. If this establishment cannot provide a suitable warrant demonstrating that their staff are legally allowed to handle people like this, I will take forth a claim to the police.

I say we popped in for breakfast before glorious goodwood... we chose breakfast deal of meal and drink. Sat down to drink. 40 min later still no food. We then asked as to where breakfast was as we were due at the races for them to say they were on there way.Yuck the breakfasts had clearly been left on the hot plate for ages. Complained for the member of staff to slag us off to the manager. Ask for full refund only given partial. Seriously wouldn’t bother. If the breakfast had been edible consisted of 1 egg,bacon,sausage,tomato and hash brown not worth the £6.25

Had a very early meeting in Chi and I was a bit concerned that I might be able to have breakfast. Contacted the hotel and had a nice email from Yasmin saying no problem we can prepare a breakfast box for you. I ended up having breakfast and enjoyed the eggs on toast. Staff friendly, room clean and comfortable. Would stay there again. About a 5 minute walk from the bus or railway stations

Bad bouncers. Rude and completely unhelpful. Kicked my friend out for no reason whatsoever, she had a maximum of two drinks. I then followed her out as they were prepared to allow a young, vulnerable women walk home alone. I was then standing outside the venue attempting to get hold of the rest of the group, who were still inside, because we didn’t have a key and I wasn’t allowed back in as it was “after one” even though I personally had not been kicked out. I witnessed a bouncer saying that they will allow someone else back in. If you are going to have a rule, enforce it across the board. Don’t have one rule for some and not for others. I then watched an extremely drunk female stumble out of the venue on her own and instead of stopping her and asking if she needed help getting a taxi or to find who she was with, they let her walk out. Then the dark haired female bouncer simply said “make a note that she left on her own.” Bouncers are there to care and protect the people visiting the venue. In this case they simply don’t care about the welfare of people, I am very disappointed. Not only this, the Vestry has been having a lot of issues with people getting spiked recently. Many people I have had conversations with about the venue has also had similar experiences with bouncers. Not acceptable.

Was out last Saturday with friends on a works do, and after visiting several pub we came to the vestry. I was refused entry but all my friends were allowed in. When I asked what the reason was they said I has been seen on CCTV but would not tell me what I had done, which by the way was nothing. The Bouncers have a terrible attitude which ruined my night. I am 47 years old and just out for a nice time and was in no way causing trouble. I would avoid this place.

This pub/restaurant is in a nice location on South Street. It has a nice ambience, and there is some sheltered outside seating out the front of the pub.

Teniendo en cuenta que era sábado alrededor de 1. 30:00 pm, el lugar estaba vacío; sólo yo y otro muchacho sentado fuera de la puerta, y otro par en el interior. Mi marido y yo nos alojamos tres noches, tenía una muy cordial bienvenida y también ayuda en las escaleras con el caso. Por desgracia, no hay aparcamiento, aparte de un aparcamiento detrás del hotel. Nos dieron un tiquet de aparcamiento nocturno, pero este reloj implicó viendo en la mañana para asegurar que pagamos un billete o eliminado el coche. Nuestra habitación era espaciosa, cama tamaño king, equipadas adecuadamente, con una decoración agradable. Al estar en la parte trasera del hotel que desconocian cualquier ruido, pero entendía que el principio de la semana no tenía entretenimiento. El baño era grande, con una bañera de hidromasaje y ducha. Sin embargo, aunque el agua caliente al instante desde la dirigía el grifo lavabo, eternidad de la ducha y yo sólo he experimentado una ducha tibia! Afortunadamente, el clima estaba caliente en el tiempo! Mencioné esto a la directora y mi comentario fue recibido cordialmente y con gracias por la información. Los desayunos eran excelentes y aguantamos la mayor parte del día! El menú tenía una muy buena elección.

The pub is spacious and inviting. The staff are so friendly, happy and helpful. I have stayed in the accomodation above the pub and this is clean and comfortable. Very warm in the winter too!! Its also good value for money.

Varied choice on the menu. cooked lunches. morning coffee. afternoon teas.have tried all of them withrelish.... Children like it too.not a lot of seating and the queue vca be long...Get a table before you get in line. brilliant in the Summer as theere are outside seats/ tables. but take a hat as it is south facing and the sun can be very hot.never had a bad meal. Busy bar in the evenings at the weekend, lively place, great drinks and a big music venue. If you want a music bar then this is the place for you.

Visited with friends for the karaoke that's just started as I am good friends with the DJ's that run it. Great selection of drinks available and cocktails are 2-4-1 every day between 4pm and 10pm. Only downside is each time I've been the ladies toilets have been bad. Out of loo roll, rubbish on floor, no soap or hot water and smelly but other than the loos all was good. But definitely aimed towards students and young people and the bouncers can seem aggressive but I guess they're just doing their job.

We stayed for 3 nights and found The Vestry perfectly placed for exploring the city. The accommodation is quite basic but is perfectly adequate. We really enjoyed the breakfast each morning and a nightcap in the bar each evening. We stayed Sunday to Wednesday morning so missed the live music, whcih was a bonus for us. Also the Students had gone home for the summer so the bar was quiet, also a bonus. However others may enjoy more life. The Vestry is near to the Bus and train stations which is convenient. We took the bus to West Wittering Beach, about 25 minutes each way and £6pp return. Which is not too bad as parking at West Wittering is £6.50 and on the day we went there was a long queue. We walked straight in. There is an arrangement to park behind the hotel for free between 6pm and 10am. The staff suggested moving the car to the multistory car-park during the day, but ended up leaving it in the multistory from Monday morning till Wednesday morning and it only cost £10.30 for secure parking.

The Internet picture is very flattering. This a pub (with a rather tacky bar area) and rooms to hire. The clenliness of the rooms and the tidyness were however extremely good. The breakfast was more than enough ranging from full English to cereals and fresh fruit and yoghurt.

Been on two occasions recently for the sunday roast, on the second occasion I took my eldest grandson who won't eat any meat but sausages and the chef fully understood and made him a roast dinner with the beloved sausages my grandson loves. All the food was excellent. On our first visit the front of house were a little lacking in service skills but after our last visit a week ago things seem to be better. If you want a really good sunday roast at a decent price then go here & apparently still only £2.99 till the end of the month so I'll probably be there again this sunday.

Good entertainment, liked the jacuzzi .The bed room and bed very spacious, clean. No staff on site overnight though, separate entrance. Live entertainment.

Visited here a couple of times. Gets very busy very quickly at lunch time & in the evening so if you decide to go, get there early. Lunch was lovely & on our evening visit there was entertainment which had the place buzzing. You can book a room too & online it all looks lovely. Not visited for some time but would definitely go again & may stay there just to cure curiosity

Have usually enjoyed having lunch at The Vestry, but today April 2016 were told that the fryer was being cleaned [this was at 11 30am ! ] so the fish and chips were going to be a long wait. I opted for the veggie chilli and im pretty sure it had be micro- waved before as the rice a little bit on the hard side. Also we didnt feel made welcome as on previous visits here, which is a shame as it was our favourite eatery. Going back to the fish and chips, when we checked the price we were told it was wrong and would be a £1 more now as the menu was old !

Stayed here with my partner for one night for Valentine's Day. We were pre-warned about possible noise from an event downstairs that could run till 2am and were given £20 off £100 as compensation, and reassured the rooms had soundproofing and the event might end early. The loud music was played from 11pm when we got in from a lovely theatre trip and coutinued to get louder throughout the night up until 2am when the license presumably stops. There was visible dust on the curtains, and the bath water temperature did not rise above tepid. The room was freezing when we checked in and the only heating was an ancient electric heater, and the room had a table without a fixed surface. Breakfast was okay, but the old wooden tables had grooves full of dirt and we had not recovered from the terrible night's sleep. We confronted the owner about the curtains and we were told that she had forgot to do her daily check, even though the dust clearly would've taken months to build.

Visited this bar with friends last night as one of my friends lives local . The door bouncers were rude and very confrontational. We are middle aged women hardly out for a night of punch ups!!! They requested Id which I gave and then tried to refuse me entry as I did not look at the camera when having my photo taken.. I told him that if he had told me I was having a photo taken I would have looked...all very odd. never have I been treated so bad by a bouncer.We complained to the manageress who was quite understanding but I felt we was not the first... I have been in this pub during the day when they want your custom. But I will never go here again.. Awful

We decided to try out the Sunday lunch as we had never been before and I kept getting emails about the £2.99 offer. We arrived at 2pm to avoid the busy time but the waiter asked if I had a voucher. I told him that the emails say no voucher or code needed which I thought he should know as it had been going all month. He then told us that he would have to check to see if the kitchen had any roasts left! When he returned he informed us that the kitchen had no roasts, neither did it have burgers, steaks or chicken!! I couldn't believe that there was basically no food. Needless to say we won't be going back anytime soon.

We visited for Sunday lunch, they had a special offer of a roast dinner for £2.99 throughout February. It was an absolute bargain, beef was lovely but a bit rare for my partner, roast potatoes delicious and nice veg.

Very pleasant welcome from both bar staff who greeted us at the door, politely served us at the bar and brought our drinks to the table. Food menu consists of the usual bar food and was average given what we ordered had clearly been microwave heated but it was bogof Wednesday and the waiter who brought the food too our table was very attentive.The female washrooms are an absolute disgrace. They smelt, didn't flush properly, had cobwebs in the corners of the cubicles and had clearly been abused for several years by the night time revellers.

The bar staff were rude and inattentive. I ordered drinks for my friends, turned around to drink my drink and when I turn back to pick the drinks up one drink had gone. I therefore complained to the staff who excused me of being rude and proceeded to kick me out of the bar despite me only drinking water. The drinks are also very expensive and not worth the money. Due to the poor customer service of the bar staff I will not be attending the venue again.

It was a Saturday and there only seemed to be two staff on the floor and bar. Our order was taken which included a kids meal and just some snacky food with a small glass of wine. We were given a medium glass of wine (not all that fussed about it but showed a lack of attention). After 35 minutes the snacky food (chips, olives etc) came out, but no sign of the kids meal. We called over the waiter who said it would be a few minutes there was a mistake in the order. I also mentioned that the menu said there would be bread with the olives and feta and that we had none. 15 minutes later the kids meal arrives along with the bread..? Most of the olives were done by this point, odd that I had to mention what was actually stated on the menu!The staff were helpful but flustered and offered us a drink on the house for the child. Seems odd as we have been several times before and really enjoyed ourselves...

this pub offers very good value for a stay in Chichester, a clean room of comfortable size and a good breakfast.Short walk to the multistorey car park £4.80 for overnight stay.

We stayed one night -en-route for another destination. Nice welcome and very friendly staff and a great breakfast but our experience was let down by an ageing mattress that sagged in the middle and a wall socket that was coming away from the wall. The bedding was very clean as was the bathroom and the towels white and fluffy but the inner frame of the external window had not been cleaned for a long, long time and was filthy. The inner frame is accessible as the secondary double glazing permits this.Live music so go for bedroom 1, 2 or 3 if possible.

Good sized comfortable rooms, clean, good breakfast. Ideal position for shopping etc & within walking distance of the Festival theatre. Be aware though there is a Disco some nights which can get rather noisy, usually finishes about 12.30.

We spent 10 years or so living near Chichester, so its a place we know well and always enjoy going back to. We stayed at the Vestry for the first time. Its a pub come hotel with "entertainment". Now that may not appeal to all tastes. Indeed not everyone might want have their breakfast with some choice 60's pop playing in the background. It was Salsa night last night and it seems a good time was had by all. The music didn't bother us and didn't go on very late. There are lots of pluses to the Vestry. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the cooked breakfast very sustaining and enjoyable. It was during breakfast that I was staring out of the window at some brickwork that looked sort of familiar! It turned out that the place was formerly the building housing Waitrose supermarket! A shop we knew very well! Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. A bit of advice about parking, which isn't covered in the Hotel web site. There is a public car park at the back of the Hotel (formerly the supermarket car park) to get to it turn left at Southgate onto the Avenue Des Chartres (A286) a small section of dual carriageway go to the first roundabout, double back towards Southgate and turn left into the public car park. The hotel will give you a pass to enable you to stay overnight until 10.00 am aftter which its £1.30 an hour. We will certainly be going back again.

Stayed 2 nights. Rooms quite spacious but overpriced at £85 a night. Loud in the evenings due to nightly disco's catering for the student market. no real ale in the bar & breakfast was awful , I had poached eggs on wet toast.Would net re-visit

Stayed for a friend's wedding. Helpful staff, very comfortable large bed, good sized room and a fantastic full English breakfast in the morning. Only thing to bear in mind (was not a problem for us, but may be for some) was that the downstairs bit is a loud bar/club til 12.30 on Fridays and Saturdays. Very quiet after that though.

We stayed here for a night at the beginning of July 2015, we found for what we paid it may have been a little pricey, however the staff had brilliant customer service, went out there way and more, the food was ok and would quite happily recommend and stay again.

Have visited this restaurant on a couple of occasions now when camping in the area for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This was a last minute booking ,on arrival we noticed what was obviously a popular bar/music venue on the ground floor and I was little concerned that we might be disturbed by noise however we were told this would not be a problem and that proved to be the case.The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was very good and the rooms comfortable and well equipped.Excellent central location close to transport links and all the main attractions, parking close to the rear of the hotel with a voucher system.If you enjoy music / nightlife this will be an exceptional place to stay , if you are visiting the Cathedral again this is the place you want, it caters extremely well for all.

Had a lovely lunch time drink in the vestry, staff attentive and friendly especially when asked to try the ales. Atmosphere good if quiet but enjoyable.

This pub does a very good lunch with friendly service. The tables are all well sized which might sound a funny thing on a review, but it means that the whole family has space to really enjoy their food without the children arguing that someone is in their space! It is always good food served with a smile.

We were a large group of 11 ladies who had set out to see some of Chichester. After travelling up on the train it was only a short walk from the station before we all decided the restaurant looked inviting. Our drink orders were taken upon arrival and the red wine began flowing! Our food order was also taken quickly and arrived after only a short wait. My Mackerel salad was delicious and very reasonably priced. Everyone else in the group was pleased with theirs too. We then decided to adjourn to the log fire......we didn't get to look around the town but our time spent in the Vestry was unforgettable! To top our time off the waitress even came over to say goodbye when she left......and we were still there! Thanks again for a great time.

I stayed while on business in Chichester. Difficult to find the parking but the staff member was very helpful explaining the obtuse Chichester one way system. Unfortunately the hotel wasn't doing food. And no credit cards taken behind the bar. Hmmm. On the nights I was there they had a DJ and then acoustic guitar session. Watched by a combined crowd over two nights of about twenty. My room was ok. Practical and did the job. Breakfast was fine. Strange to have loud rock music in the background while having breakfast. The elderly couple also in for breakfast didn't seem to appreciate it. This was an on experience but I'm not sure if this is a student bar pretending to be a hotel or vice versa. Probably very busy at weekends but a non event during the week.

With some lovely meals on the menu and some great drafts on the tap, The Vestry is certainly a spot for the local trendsetter!Prices are a little higher than most places around but they make up for that with the quality

Arrived at 11:15am and they allowed us an early check in at 11:30am. We stayed in the Edward story room which was amazing! The jacuzzi was brilliant. The room was very big with a massive bed and very comfortable.. The staff where lovely and welcoming. The breakfast was really nice, a good selection. We was very impressed and will defiantly be returning!

Very good service, food, friendly staff, excellent location. Some rooms a bit noisy at night. Excellent (especially cooked0 breakfasts. Furniture in dining-area heavy wooden, a bit clunky.

I stopped by for a late leisurely breakfast on Saturday morning. The service was fantastic as was the warm welcome we received upon entering this amazing place ! The choices were numerous and everything on my plate was cooked to perfection and an absolute culinary delight. If I lived nearer I would definitely be a regular !

Pub bem no centro da cidade, local descontraido e agradavel para um drink. Atendentes alegres e bacanas. Serve refeicoes mas nao experimentei.

One of my favourite pubs in Chichester. Plenty of seating and the service is always friendly. I'm a vegetarian so my eating habits are a little different to most and the selection of food isn't exactly the best i've had, but it's a pub after all. There is a bit of a night scene too i've been told.... but i don't partake so i wouldn't know :)

The Vestry is a top spot to visit when in chichester.I travel up and down the country on buisness, the vestry is ideal situated in the town centre, it's accomodation is clean and tidy and very spacious.the staff are freindly and very welcoming, it's that good I am staying here for the next five weeks.Angela and the team do a really sterling job and nothing is too much trouble.Please please read the description of anything before booking, i have read on a number of sites that some people rave on about the freindly atmosphere and staff at the Vestry, but yet only give it a 1 or 2 out of 5 because they say that it is too noisy on a nightime.this is not fair to the hardworking staff who clearly put in a lot of effort, the Vestry encourages live music on most nights, so if you are looking for a quiet weekend retreat don't go to the VestryBut if you are looking for something in the heart of a lively town centre with friendly people and staff, and accomodation at a really resonable rate the the Vestry is certainly for you, so don't sit in your room sulking because you did not read the description properly, get down stairs and join them.To Angela and the staff......Keep up the good workRegardsMartin

popped in for lunch on New Year 2013 Eve with a group of friends. Excellent staff and good value food, will def visit again.

I visited here with my boyfriend. We had to walk through a cloud of ciggerette smoke on the way in, thanks to the group of smokers right outside the doorway. Not a good first impression. The place was dark and dingy, full of students and as we are in our early forties we felt a bit uncomfortable. We had to wait a long time for our food to arrive and the staff werent particulary friendly. We will not be back.

Visited for Sunday lunch. The Beef looked lovely but it was cold. I was told that's how it comes and they won't reheat. Roast potatoes were not crispy and weren't nice. Vegetables were pleasant and not overdone.Service though was excellent but it wasn't very busy. Don't think I would come here for Sunday lunch again. Will book the Nags next time because that was fully booked.I have heard very good things about the B&B section of the business.

Me and boyfriend stayed at this hotel for several nights at the beginning of September. Whilst there was a slight mess up with our rooms the staff were very accommodating and sorted it out quickly. The lady working on Monday evening, a cover for the usual manager, was particularly helpful and polite and made us feel welcome on arrival. The hotel was nice and comfy - I have no complaints. They even have freeview which i haven't found in many other hotels. I can't comment on the food as I didn't eat here - even though breakfast was included in the deal but that was us being too lazy! Yes there is loud music downstairs some evenings but this didn't ruin our stay and it finished at a more than reasonable time. Thanks for looking after us so well... We will definitely be back!

We were in chichester with our 3 little dogs, and saw The Vestry had a seating area at the front, where we could sit with our dogs and have a coffee or such like, and decided to have a breakfast which was very reasonably priced. The staff were so accommodating, and happy for us to sit with the dogs and made a fuss of them, and got them some water straight away. Very nice friendly staff, who couldn't do enough for you, and made you feel very welcome. The breakfast was delicious, with free range eggs, lovely bacon and herby premium sausages plus lovely tomatoes. The whole breakfast was cooked to perfection, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We will definitely be going there again when in Chichester, as the service was first class!. Well done The Vestry!

Similar to other reviews of this establishment, I share the sentiments regarding the door-staff. They are there to keep the peace, yes, but unfortunately they often act too violently towards situations which don't require excessive force. They do not give you a chance to be diplomatic about different situations, preferring instead to haul you out of the entrance and pin you onto the busy adjacent road. You need to seriously check your behaviour because they tend to exercise little self restraint. You're better off spending money elsewhere to avoid an unwarranted maltreatment by big thuggish door-staff. In addition, don't bother trying to inform the management that he can expect a police enquiry following the behaviour of his door-staff because they are an outsourced firm and the manager's attitude stinks.
