The George and Dragon Inn in Chichester

Great town pub, I didn't stay but a colleague did and reported a clean, tidy and comfortable room. Good selection of Lagers, Barrel beers, Craft beers Ciders available, well stocked Spirits, all areas covered with alternatives available. Clean tidy bar, lovely old floorboard s and a fire on. Dog friendly, TV's with a selection of sports channels. It was a Monday night visit so not full , I think it's probably very popular on the weekends.

A great friendly pub in the city. Visiting here with a friend for a lunchtime pint, received a warm welcome from the staff (and locals). Lady staff very customer orientated, offering suggestions for lunch, serving it with smiles and humour. A credit to the pub. 2 real ales, Hip hop and Landlord. Both well kept.

Nos alojamos por 3 noches y todo estaba bien, bonita habitación limpia y cálida, buena ducha y una muy buena elección llenando el desayuno continental. Puerta lateral para la entrada / salida es conveniente y muy cerca de tiendas / restaurantes. Todo el personal que conocí era agradable y amable. No hay aparcamiento en el lugar que podría ser un problema, pero nunca me afectó. Sin duda me alojaría de nuevo.

Great place for a pre-theatre drink and a meal. Nothing fancy, just good wholesome food and friendly service.

If I could give this a zero I would. Wearrived for a work Christmas lunch - there was the head chef confirming reservations. Our waitress was friendly and mentioned that she had only been there for ten days. Despite this she seemed to be the only other member of staff. The starters were ok, the mains were definitely not. The beetroot wellington was overly sweet, and served on a dry -undressed salad. When I requested some olive oil I was told 'the chef doesn't have any'. One of my colleagues couldn't eat her roast turkey lunch because it was dry and the vegetables were evidently old and she said that whole thing tasted 'earthy and muddy'. The waitress sent the head chef over to our table when my colleague explained why she hadn't eaten her main. It's hardly a Michelin starred establishment so not sure why the chef was sent over...but then it became apparent that there was no manager on duty or any senior staff available. As our desserts were served, along came the head chef and pulled a chair up at our table to talk at us. We found this completely awkward and inappropriate. When the bill was brought they had taken £4 off. Our boss queried this and then we were told that the chef was on the phone to the owner to ask him what to do?! He came back and said 'the owner said I'm allowed to make a £10 discount but no more' The way it was dealt with was ridiculous and unprofessional. One of our party was violently ill after the lunch too, and had questioned the freshness and quality of the grey salmon he was served. It was a total shambles. Avoid at all costs. We only go out once a year as a company, and we really wish we'd gone elsewhere.

Si pudiera darle un cero a esto lo haría. Llegamos para un almuerzo de Navidad de trabajo - allí estaba el jefe de cocina confirmando reservas. Nuestra camarera era amable y mencionó que solo había estado allí durante diez días. A pesar de esto, ella parecía ser el único otro miembro del personal. Los titulares estaban bien, la red definitivamente no. El wellington de remolacha era demasiado dulce y se servía en una ensalada seca y sin aderezar. Cuando pedí un poco de aceite de oliva me dijeron 'el chef no tiene ninguno'. Una de mis colegas no pudo comer su almuerzo de pavo asado porque estaba seco y las verduras eran evidentemente viejas y dijo que todo eso sabía 'terroso y fangoso'. La camarera envió al jefe de cocina a nuestra mesa cuando mi colega le explicó por qué no se había comido su principal. Apenas es un establecimiento con estrellas Michelin, así que no estoy seguro de por qué enviaron al chef... pero luego se hizo evidente que no había gerente de turno ni personal de alto rango disponible. Mientras servíamos nuestros postres, vino el jefe de cocina y levantó una silla en nuestra mesa para hablar con nosotros. Encontramos esto completamente incómodo e inapropiado. Cuando se trajo el proyecto de ley habían quitado 4 libras. Nuestro jefe preguntó esto y luego nos dijeron que el chef estaba al teléfono con el dueño para preguntarle qué hacer. Regresó y dijo "el propietario dijo que me permiten hacer un descuento de £ 10 pero no más "La forma en que se trató fue ridículo y poco profesional. Uno de los miembros de nuestra fiesta también estaba violentamente enfermo después del almuerzo, y había cuestionado la frescura y la calidad del salmón gris que le sirvieron. Fue un desastre total. Evitar a toda costa. Solo salimos una vez al año como compañía, y realmente desearíamos haber ido a otro lugar.

We made a last minute booking for my daughter’s birthday meal before a show at the theatre this evening and the team at The George and Dragon could not have been more accommodating. They had decorated a table for us and came out with a free birthday desert for my daughter. The food was delicious and the staff were just wonderful. What a fabulous place we have in Chichester. I would highly recommend.

Yesterday I decided to go to here to have lunch. Unfortunately there was limited options for the mains so I opted for the salad. When given I sadly had to reject this due to the hot chillies in them . I had it again without and was okay. However the Italian white wine was very good. Also the zillionaire’s tart was excellent. The service was good also and the Manager very understanding and friendly. In 2 weeks time I have booked a party from Salisbury Services for the Xmas menu so hopefully it will be a great evening. I wished I could added another star but it must have been an off day for lunch. However on a positive note the main meal was free due to helpful staff that sent apologies. Next time I hope to give you a positive rating in 2 weeks time.

I held a halloween makeup master class in the back room. A woman called Hannah was ready to help, nothing was too much effort. The ladies that came to the event all enjoyed the evening and commented on how realxing the venue was and great service.

A new standard in excellence! You ask for it and they will provide! Ordered the George burger for dinner..... with extra burger, extra bacon and 2 x eggs and what an absolute MONSTER it was! Cooked to perfection with crispy fries and slaw. The new chef is making his mark and it's well worth checking out.

This used to be a good place to stop for lunch en route to the theatre (previous menu had a lovely Chilli, always reliable), but the menu has changed significantly and not for the better. I had a cheese & tomato panini which was advertised on the menu as accompanied by salad & crisps. When it finally arrived, it was very dry and barely warm. Not much of the cheese had actually melted, and there was absolutely no filling in the last two inches of bread. The salad was drenched in balsamic vinegar (which I do not like and this was not mentioned on the menu), and the "crisps" were toasted tortilla chips (which I also dislike). So what I received was not as described. Very disappointing and to add insult to injury, the pub no longer stocks Orchard Thieves cider. So I shall not be returning.

Great for pre-theatre meal - lovely tapas selection and particularly delicious feta and honey dip. Very attentive service - will definitely go here again.

We tried The George by chance and we were very glad we did! Meet and greet was friendly and welcoming, as was the bright, airy conservatory. It wasn't warm enough to sit outside but there is a courtyard seating area as well. The table was cleaned for us as we sat down, and the menu choices explained. Only one pie left so that was ordered and enjoyed. Nice choices of tapas, especially the delicious feta and honey dip. Service was attentive and good, we will return next time we visit the theatre. This ‘hotel’ and I use this term in the very loosest sense, is just plain disgusting. Rooms are filthy, mouldy, damp. Broken furniture and grubby divan. Don’t look behind bed or beside cabinet. Just gross. We stayed here for Goodwood revival. Think I’d rather sleep in a tent. Only positive is location and staff who all seem embarrassed about the dump they have to work in.

We had a quick lunch after a bike ride a d ordered two sandwiches which came with salad and crisps. Although the ham n cheese filling was nice, the bread/toast was just basic white bread not rustic bread and the salad comprised of a few lettuce leaves on the plate- no dressing no cue no Tom’s. We asked for a bit of dressing and we got a balsamic glaze we couldn’t pour! The crisps were few and far between and I didn’t feel it represented value for money - shame

We went for lunch in the conservatory prior to a matinee at the theatre. We were the third group to be seated. Soon afterwards the tables filled with other theatregoers and that’s when it all started to go wrong. They do not appear to have enough staff in the kitchen and while we were informed on arrival of a 25 minute wait which we did not mind when the food came they served one of our party and then took away the second meal saying ‘it’s not for you’ although it was what we had ordered. They gave it to one of the groups coming in long after us. This meant we did not eat lunch together as it was some time before they brought our second meal. To be fair to the manager when we complained he apologised and removed the cost of the meal. The food is good and freshly cooked - but they do need to get a grip of their servers and kitchen!

Went for drinks for a night out in a group whilst we where ordering drinks there was a older woman (not sure on her name) and a younger guy with tattoos on his arms both working the bar As it was busy there was a wait at the bar for drinks but it only seemed like the younger guy was actually working the older woman was just hiding in the corner having a catch up with another customer, we overheard the guy ask the woman if she could help him serve as it’s busy she just responded in a vile tone that she’s busy and will do it when she can As she is apparently part of the management team this is not the way to show respect and leadership within your team We ordered cocktails and as she turned away from us we’re pretty sure we overheard her call us the C word under her breath again as someone who is apparently part of the management team it is absolutely disgusting and disrespectful Visit this place by all means but make sure this woman isn’t working

I loved the George and Dragon. I stayed for two nights in room 10 which is a superior king room. It was very comfortable and convenient for the night out I had on the Saturday and the chill out I needed on the Sunday. The staff are lovely and so helpful and friendly. I didn’t want the food on offer at the pub on Sunday so I ordered Sushi in and the barman brought it to my room for me from the deliveroo driver. I had breakfast on the Monday morning before I left. I would say it was average, I didn’t love it but it did the job. The pub is really nice and we enjoyed the beer garden for drinks and love music on Saturday. If you want a quiet stay remember you are staying in a pub in a city centre - there will be late night noise. We didn’t mind as we were willing participants in the fun!

Stayed here for one night to attend an event at The Festival Theatre. The Inn is very close to the Theatre which was great for me as I was on my own, very easy to find. The ‘Inn’ accommodation I had wasn’t good. The room was very dated, dirty window, dirty carpets, toilet wasn’t clean, skirting boards were covered in dust and dirt. Tatty furniture. I had rung a few days prior to my visit to ask if needed was there an iron & ironing board available - I was told there’s both in every room… there wasn’t in my room - the guest info file in the room stated they were available if requested. Shower cubicle very small and lots of mould on the silicone around the bathroom. I had also requested a ground floor room, I was told that I had been allocated one, on arrival at the door to the rooms I was told my room was on the 1st floor. The stairs are steep and the lighting is of the sort that you push in and it’s ‘timed’ - I couldn’t make it up or down the stairs before the light went off - it was pitch black & therefore very dangerous. In the room there are steps up from the entrance to the main part of the room - I kept a light on all night & placed my case on the floor by the steps so that I would be reminded of it…very dangerous. There is a hotel a few doors up - Chichester Harbour Hotel - which I enquired about once I had seen the room at the ‘Inn’ - unfortunately for me they were fully booked as I would gladly have paid to stay there the night instead of The George & Dragon.

Don't ask for food, not available after 18:45. Apart from that it is fine. It has a good choice of ales, clean toilets etc etc

Went there for a drink with son daughter in law hubby and grandson lovely beer garden. I have eaten there before. The food is superb

popped in for a pint after work, really good selection of beers including Wadworth 6x something I’ve not see on tap in a long time. Really pleasant place to sit and drink garden is nice and staff were all happy to help.

I booked two rooms here at Easter. The price was high considering its a pub in Chichester, but it was Easter weekend and the picutures on both Expedia and the pub's own website looked lovely.Don't be decieved! It was hands down the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. It was dirty, uncomfortable, damp and smelly. The fascilities were cheap and old - like staying in a really bad, very low budget, youth hostel. I didnt want to touch anything and couldn't wait for morning to leave. And I was the lucky one. My mother's room smelt so damp and mould. Her sheets were damp and she woke with a bad cough from the moisture in the air. Rather than sneaking off and leaving a bad review, I went to speak to the manager in the morning to tell him I wasn't happy. He agreed the rooms are bad (as did his staff) but he had just taken over and was about to do lots of improvements. He said I should contact Expedia - warned me they would take forever to reply, but he would approve a part refund the rooms. I did exactly this. Expedia were very quick, he lied about this, but when I raised the complaint it was refused by the hotel. I queried this explaining that the manager had already approved it and again they refused it. As I explained to the manager it was a real shame because my father lives around the corner and his house isnt big enough for our very big family to stay so if it been nice or even satisfactory, all of us would be staying there very often!

We were looking for Sunday lunch at the last minute, and were seated after a short wait. We were delighted with the quality, and generous amount of food. The roast was served with a wide variety of vegetables. The service at the table was outstanding, with the kitchen being most helpful to cater to our needs. The restaurant was quiet, and the price was not expensive.

Excellent value stay in central Chichester. Spotlessly clean and comfortable and the stable rooms are accessible outside of pub opening hours via a side gate. Nice not to have to come and go through the bar area. Staff were really friendly and the breakfast exceeded expectations. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg, crushed avocado and poached egg as well as the more traditional full English. No parking at the hotel but plenty of car parks nearby where 24hrs is under £8. Will definitely be staying again.

A crap place to forget!!! never seen in my life such an orrible b&b. wifi not working, the room was damp and dirty, continental breakfast non existing (a bunch of dirty tea bags and hot water, yougurt not available, milk from weeks before, bad quality fruit - an apple and an organge). The plus was the staff: rude, unhelpful, not knowing the place they live in: I asked for the local tourist information and a girl at the reception looked at me as if i was asking for the holy graal! and the tourist infomation is just a block away from this crappy, dirty, ridicolus place. not an Inn, a hovel!!!

Yet another great time had at the G&D visited for the karaoke on Sunday night and had a brilliant time friendly staff and some really interesting beers on sale including red stripe which I can’t seem to find anywhere on tap. Always a win with me and my friends

We visited this inn for a special dinner organised for our friends who are church bellringers and we were having a week's tour in Sussex, The inn has such a splendid atmosphere you feel you should be arriving by coach or a sedan chair. They had had a large lunch party and were still clearing up, but this was all done very efficiently and they were soon ready for us. The food was one would say typical good pub food and it was well presented and served. At the close of the evening we asked the proprietor to get us a taxi but he couldn't find one available so he very kindly drove us to our hotel himself.

Average Pub, average décor. But found the lagers very expensive and all well over £6 a pint and if you want a bag of crisps its £1.60. Dont even get me started on the price of a large house wine. Maybe acceptable if in London or fancy wine bar but not a basic pub.

on a whim we stayed here to wander around Chicester and celebrate my wifes birthday. We booked a room which was very clean and tidy and very good value. The staff were efficient and polite and although we did not eat in the evening what we saw looked good. However the real prize was the breakfast. continental or english the choice was varied and copious. We will definitely stay again. Thank you to Kieran and the staff for making us feel at home and I promise I will not mislay the keys again!!!

Had a post lockdown lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. I would certainly recommend if you are in Chichester. Tina, our server, was excellent.

Great atmosphere and great service. When you talk about a nice pub atmosphere in Chichester this is the best place in to be. Would heavily recommend this place.

Originally drawn inside from the smell of food and free WiFi. Chips were tasty but absolutely no sign of any WiFi, bit disappointed as just need to do a few things. Good staff, good ale. Good covid rules.

Had a veggie burger yesterday and thought great a meal for just under £10. When ordering was asked if I wanted chips which I did. Those were extra so came to nearly £12. I assumed chips were included in the original price. Burger was ok but big

Won’t be going back to the George and Dragon for a while. Whole place looks rundown inside which is less that expected after 3 months of closure. Painting unfinished and really shabby looking place inside the conservatory unfortunately. Food was Terrible also, plain looking and bland. Not sure what’s happened here but something needs to change. Used to be decent!

Chichester turned out to be a perfect destination for a mini winter break with a friend. The George was welcoming, the smallish double rooms comfortable, tea, coffee and biscuits pleasingly provided and a good cooked breakfast. Excellent value for money.
