A new standard in excellence! You ask for it and they will provide! Ordered the George burger for dinner..... with extra burger, extra bacon and 2 x eggs and what an absolute MONSTER it was! Cooked to perfection with crispy fries and slaw. The new chef is making his mark and it's well worth checking out.

This used to be a good place to stop for lunch en route to the theatre (previous menu had a lovely Chilli, always reliable), but the menu has changed significantly and not for the better. I had a cheese & tomato panini which was advertised on the menu as accompanied by salad & crisps. When it finally arrived, it was very dry and barely warm. Not much of the cheese had actually melted, and there was absolutely no filling in the last two inches of bread. The salad was drenched in balsamic vinegar (which I do not like and this was not mentioned on the menu), and the "crisps" were toasted tortilla chips (which I also dislike). So what I received was not as described. Very disappointing and to add insult to injury, the pub no longer stocks Orchard Thieves cider. So I shall not be returning.

We tried The George by chance and we were very glad we did! Meet and greet was friendly and welcoming, as was the bright, airy conservatory. It wasn't warm enough to sit outside but there is a courtyard seating area as well. The table was cleaned for us as we sat down, and the menu choices explained. Only one pie left so that was ordered and enjoyed. Nice choices of tapas, especially the delicious feta and honey dip. Service was attentive and good, we will return next time we visit the theatre. Thank you

This ‘hotel’ and I use this term in the very loosest sense, is just plain disgusting. Rooms are filthy, mouldy, damp. Broken furniture and grubby divan. Don’t look behind bed or beside cabinet. Just gross. We stayed here for Goodwood revival. Think I’d rather sleep in a tent. Only positive is location and staff who all seem embarrassed about the dump they have to work in.

We had a quick lunch after a bike ride a d ordered two sandwiches which came with salad and crisps. Although the ham n cheese filling was nice, the bread/toast was just basic white bread not rustic bread and the salad comprised of a few lettuce leaves on the plate- no dressing no cue no Tom’s. We asked for a bit of dressing and we got a balsamic glaze we couldn’t pour! The crisps were few and far between and I didn’t feel it represented value for money - shame

We went for lunch in the conservatory prior to a matinee at the theatre. We were the third group to be seated. Soon afterwards the tables filled with other theatregoers and that’s when it all started to go wrong. They do not appear to have enough staff in the kitchen and while we were informed on arrival of a 25 minute wait which we did not mind when the food came they served one of our party and then took away the second meal saying ‘it’s not for you’ although it was what we had ordered. They gave it to one of the groups coming in long after us. This meant we did not eat lunch together as it was some time before they brought our second meal. To be fair to the manager when we complained he apologised and removed the cost of the meal. The food is good and freshly cooked - but they do need to get a grip of their servers and kitchen!

Went for drinks for a night out in a group whilst we where ordering drinks there was a older woman (not sure on her name) and a younger guy with tattoos on his arms both working the bar As it was busy there was a wait at the bar for drinks but it only seemed like the younger guy was actually working the older woman was just hiding in the corner having a catch up with another customer, we overheard the guy ask the woman if she could help him serve as it’s busy she just responded in a vile tone that she’s busy and will do it when she can As she is apparently part of the management team this is not the way to show respect and leadership within your team We ordered cocktails and as she turned away from us we’re pretty sure we overheard her call us the C word under her breath again as someone who is apparently part of the management team it is absolutely disgusting and disrespectful Visit this place by all means but make sure this woman isn’t working

I loved the George and Dragon. I stayed for two nights in room 10 which is a superior king room. It was very comfortable and convenient for the night out I had on the Saturday and the chill out I needed on the Sunday. The staff are lovely and so helpful and friendly. I didn’t want the food on offer at the pub on Sunday so I ordered Sushi in and the barman brought it to my room for me from the deliveroo driver. I had breakfast on the Monday morning before I left. I would say it was average, I didn’t love it but it did the job. The pub is really nice and we enjoyed the beer garden for drinks and love music on Saturday. If you want a quiet stay remember you are staying in a pub in a city centre - there will be late night noise. We didn’t mind as we were willing participants in the fun!

Stayed here for one night to attend an event at The Festival Theatre. The Inn is very close to the Theatre which was great for me as I was on my own, very easy to find. The ‘Inn’ accommodation I had wasn’t good. The room was very dated, dirty window, dirty carpets, toilet wasn’t clean, skirting boards were covered in dust and dirt. Tatty furniture. I had rung a few days prior to my visit to ask if needed was there an iron & ironing board available - I was told there’s both in every room… there wasn’t in my room - the guest info file in the room stated they were available if requested. Shower cubicle very small and lots of mould on the silicone around the bathroom. I had also requested a ground floor room, I was told that I had been allocated one, on arrival at the door to the rooms I was told my room was on the 1st floor. The stairs are steep and the lighting is of the sort that you push in and it’s ‘timed’ - I couldn’t make it up or down the stairs before the light went off - it was pitch black & therefore very dangerous. In the room there are steps up from the entrance to the main part of the room - I kept a light on all night & placed my case on the floor by the steps so that I would be reminded of it…very dangerous. There is a hotel a few doors up - Chichester Harbour Hotel - which I enquired about once I had seen the room at the ‘Inn’ - unfortunately for me they were fully booked as I would gladly have paid to stay there the night instead of The George & Dragon.

I booked two rooms here at Easter. The price was high considering its a pub in Chichester, but it was Easter weekend and the picutures on both Expedia and the pub's own website looked lovely.Don't be decieved! It was hands down the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. It was dirty, uncomfortable, damp and smelly. The fascilities were cheap and old - like staying in a really bad, very low budget, youth hostel. I didnt want to touch anything and couldn't wait for morning to leave. And I was the lucky one. My mother's room smelt so damp and mould. Her sheets were damp and she woke with a bad cough from the moisture in the air. Rather than sneaking off and leaving a bad review, I went to speak to the manager in the morning to tell him I wasn't happy. He agreed the rooms are bad (as did his staff) but he had just taken over and was about to do lots of improvements. He said I should contact Expedia - warned me they would take forever to reply, but he would approve a part refund the rooms. I did exactly this. Expedia were very quick, he lied about this, but when I raised the complaint it was refused by the hotel. I queried this explaining that the manager had already approved it and again they refused it. As I explained to the manager it was a real shame because my father lives around the corner and his house isnt big enough for our very big family to stay so if it been nice or even satisfactory, all of us would be staying there very often!

Excellent value stay in central Chichester. Spotlessly clean and comfortable and the stable rooms are accessible outside of pub opening hours via a side gate. Nice not to have to come and go through the bar area. Staff were really friendly and the breakfast exceeded expectations. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg, crushed avocado and poached egg as well as the more traditional full English. No parking at the hotel but plenty of car parks nearby where 24hrs is under £8. Will definitely be staying again.

The plus was the staff: rude, unhelpful, not knowing the place they live in: I asked for the local tourist information and a girl at the reception looked at me as if i was asking for the holy graal! and the tourist infomation is just a block away from this crappy, dirty, ridicolus place. not an Inn, a hovel!!!

We visited this inn for a special dinner organised for our friends who are church bellringers and we were having a week's tour in Sussex, The inn has such a splendid atmosphere you feel you should be arriving by coach or a sedan chair. They had had a large lunch party and were still clearing up, but this was all done very efficiently and they were soon ready for us. The food was one would say typical good pub food and it was well presented and served. At the close of the evening we asked the proprietor to get us a taxi but he couldn't find one available so he very kindly drove us to our hotel himself.

We had been using this pub on a semi regular basis for some time, nice bar area, nice garden area (but nothing special), but something seemed to change. My wife was served two very flat pints of lager, when she asked for them to be changed, the bar man seemed to her to be grumpy about it, but did change them, but clearly it was some effort for him (it's now apparent it's the bar manager). So we started to use a Tavern closer to the Park round the corner, which has been far more welcoming & a friendlier vibe in general. Recently a group of us used this venue to celebrate Christmas, my review is my own experience rather than anyone else in the group, but talking to others since, we share aspects of opinion. On arriving I ordered a lager, hoping that previous experiences might now have been resolved (they haven't been). I went & joined our group & while waiting for food to arrive, not rushing my drink, it had gone flat (not just lost it's head as the manager told me. Our starters arrived, Prawn Cocktails, served in a half pint jug, bland sauce & maybe 6 or so small prawns. Others having the same starter also commented how mean the portion was. One was sent back to have the unusual topping of raw onion removed (I didn't mind this topping, though it was quite different). Other comments were how mean that no bread or butter was offered with it. I also wasn't bothered about the presentation. Others sat near me had soup, they weren't sure what it was, they thought it was bland. While waiting for our main course, I went & ordered another pint of lager. Explained what had happened to the first, the same bar manager poured the pint & it was almost flat in the glass, losing it's head almost instantly. He poured it into one or two other glasses & said I should complain to Heineken. His attitude was really quite unusual for a bar manager & perhaps accounts for how quiet the pub often seems to be & how many adverts they have for new staff requirements! I took my sad looking pint & went back to the table. Main course arrived, which was a Turkey dish. By now I was disappointed with the managers unnecessary poor attitude (I had been polite to & other staff). Probably about halfway through the main course, my drink was flat, devoid of head, likewise someone else also drinking lager said their drink wasn't like it is in other local pubs. I decided to go to the bar & ask him to refund me for my drink. On speaking to him, he was basically quiet rude. This was a £20 meal consisting of one poor Prawn Cocktail & an ok main dish, plus £4.80 for one dire pint & the second proving to be the same. While this isn't a huge amount, our group are volunteers at a local charity. So we give our time for free. After speaking to him, I decided that the best option was to leave, having been drinking in pubs for more than 30 years, I've never encountered someone with so little idea of good customer service & that has been so rude & unhelpful. When I asked him to refund my drink, he said that I hadn't given him the opportunity to do anything about changing my drink or anything else, ie a drink on the house - which is nonsense. I gave him my main meal back & said that I would not be paying for the poor food. I promptly left & don't plan on returning. The food that I did eat/or the 1 1/2 pints of flat/headless lager did give me terrible gut issues the next day! When or if the manager replies to this, please do leave your name, which you refused to give me so I could complain to your superiors. Thank you

We were looking for a Sunday roast in Chichester and there are a lot of options but many places had the feel of style over substance. The George and Dragon is not a flash venue and could possibly do with a little sprucing up in the bar area but the staff were really friendly and keen to help.My wife and I both decided to have the roast beef and a side of cauliflower cheese to share. The menu itself was small but I would rather 5 or 6 choices done well than 20 poorly. Our food arrived quickly and was excellent, three types of veg, slices of beef and four large potatoes along with a Yorkshire pudding and gravy.Overall an enjoyable experience that I would repeat.

We used to eat at the George and Dragon quite a bit when our daughter was alive. One day I had an appointment at ENT at St Richard's Hospital so we decided to make a day of it and go shopping in Chichester. The place is as we remembered it; pleasant surroundings and nice food. We both had the bar meal of a selection of three sausages. I had brown bread with mine and my husband chose white. We each had a glass of wine. I think that when we visit Chichester again we shall return. The staff members are friendly and pleasant and one is not rushed over one's choice of food.

We popped in about 5ish for a pre-theatre supper. There was a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was great ...freshly cooked and some really interesting flavours of pies!!! Portions were more than generous i will definitely go back and I have already recommended it to other friends.

Proper pub with an innovative chef. Lunch: trio of sausage/ cheese and beans jacket. Sausages lovely, very distinctive, the mixed smokey beans with meaty bits, delicious. For dinner, the chicken stack yum, pie was the only let down, hard pastry and some of the beef tough, bubble and squeak was very moreish. Excellent breakfast, very comfortable, clean room for our stay.

Cosy little pub/inn offering rooms which are set just at the rear of the pub in a cute cottagey style building. No parking at the pub but huge car park 5 minutes walk away via underpass and not expensive. The pub itself is quite lively and serves a good range of ales and 31 gins! Our room was quite small but adequate for a night's stay, average shower and no plug in the sink! Double bed was clean, comfortable and room was clean. It was quite noisy at night and early morning with guests in other rooms coming in and out, banging doors and creaky floors etc. Rooms probably could do with a little updating, carpets changed etc but didn't detract from comfort and hospitality of the staff. Good breakfast with cereals, fruit and plenty of hot choices cooked fresh to order. Great central location, would definitely stay again when visiting Chichester.

Recently dined here with friends, including one baby and one puppy. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the food was good too. Reasonably priced meals that cater for all diets. Definitely recommend.

This is a dog friendly pub, which is important when you have a dog. The staff very friendly and knowledgeable about gluten intolerance and the pub food was very good. We had lunch, all served in reasonable time and we felt the staff looked after their clients well. Would definitely go again.

Here for breakfast, service was good but food was just average with sausage being rather dried up. Have had better elsewhere for less money.

Positives. Lovely quiet location in the centre of the city. Clean rooms that are cleaned every day, which is a plus. Helpful staff and great food.

We had a stop over in our former home city as we were visiting a ill relative. The inn is very cosy and our room was comfortable and clean.only complaints were they don't have their own Wi-Fi, they rely on the cloud which is not very good as so many people use it. Also at breakfast there was not a lot of choice if like me you are for healthy eating. No choice of eggs, I requested boiled eggs and toast and was told the best they could offer was poached eggs on toast.

We had booked to see the Nutcracker Ballet with our daughter & granddaughter & wanted a light bite before the show. Our daughter who lives in nearby looked for a pub that served food. She found the George as it looked like the nearest pub to the theatre that served food. We were not disappointed, The food was excellent chosen from the fresh cooked list of chef's specials and served quickly & with a smile ! Excellent range of real ales were also on offer as well as mulled wine.

This place is spot on. Stayed here as part of our minimoon and it delivered on everything. The breakfast was lovely, the staff were welcoming, the room was excellent and the location was spot on. We knew there would be loud music (which there was) so it didn't surprise us. Hearing "The Macarena" at two thirty in the morning though made me smile. So thank you "The Vestry" for a very nice stay.

Stayed here overnight to spend some time in the countryside after a busy few weeks. First impressions were good- public area and bedroom were stylishly decorated, spacious bathroom and nice hospitality tray with fresh milk in the fridge which is always welcome. A bit surprised to see a gun safe in the room, which perhaps suggests the clientele they're aiming for. On a warmer day the terrace would've been a lovely place to have a drink. This is very much a dining establishment rather than an actual pub, so food is the focus. Friendly attentive service. We enjoyed our starters, garlic prawns and beetroot salad, particularly as my preference for blue cheese rather than feta was accommodated. Mains were fine- pork belly (although the black pudding bonbon was a bit dry) and fish and chips, which I only chose as the menu was quite limited. Crumble was nice, but I struggled to finish the pear frangipane tart which was rather dry and stodgy rather than luscious and almondy and needed the custard and icecream. After dinner we would normally enjoy sitting in the bar with a couple more drinks or coffee, but by 9pm on Saturday evening it was pretty empty so lacked atmosphere and we retired early. We understand the difficult environment facing hospitality, but perhaps the relatively high prices have deterred the local trade. We had a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed with quality linen, although the central heating pipes are quite noisy. Attention to detail was a bit lacking in the bathroom -I'm sure they know the wall behind the towel rail needs repainting, but the grouting and sealant in the shower cubicle would benefit from a toothbrush dipped in mould remover, the lovely rain showerhead needs descaling and the vent needs a good vacuum. We also bled the bedroom radiator as it wasn't heating up! Breakfast was very good quality, the mushrooms in particular were delicious with good coffee. The hosts are clearly aiming for quality, and we enjoyed our stay, but it's probably more for a special occasion, as we felt it lacked the buzzy local country pub vibe that we enjoy.

Stayed here for two nights and had a pleasant time . The hotel/ pub is in the centre of Chichester and a very short walk from the railway station. My room was spacious , clean and comfortable . It was above the pub downstairs and overlooked the street but I never experienced any problem with noise. The bathroom was spacious with a good overhead shower. The cost included a cooked meal which is served in the pub room downstairs. Staff were friendly .
