Large hotel located in a quiet area. The bar area was comfortable though drinks are pricey. Restaurant was good with above average food on the evening. Puddings were good but apple pie with custard was lukewarm. Breakfast was included and was plentiful. Choose from the menu and also the buffet if you wanted to. Rooms were spacious but in our case a little tired. Marks on furniture etc. Relatively clean but no excuse for cobwebs on and behind curtains. Bed was super comfy. Had a great night's sleep. Attention to detail would make this hotel superb. Wallpaper hanging off in the stair area is not hard to fix. Staff here were professional friendly and helpful. I would stay here again

Probably one of the worst places I’ve been to. The service was awful. All of the tables were filthy and we had to request for our table to be cleaned prior to sitting down, which was done begrudgingly. When our breakfast came out, I can only describe it as a refied and warmed up previously cooked food. Everything was over cooked due to constant refrying and warming up, the beans were served up with a congealed bean sauce where they had been sitting for so long. No condiments are on the table like you would expect to find in a normal decent establishment. You have to go and request these as apparently they have a problem with theft of ketchup and brown sauce. This is definitely not a good place to eat. Definitely not fresh food!! And in my opinion avoid at all costs!!!

Visited mackaris by the bandstand. Popped in for lunch and was impressed with the menu. I ordered a chilli and my wife ordered a ploughman’s. We seemed to wait a long time for the good but thought it reasonable to wait for freshly prepared food. Was a little concerned when we gazed around during our wait, no one else was having food, only drinks and ice cream. When the food eventually arrived I was surprised by the amount of chilli and rice I was served, I then realised that the rice was a packet of “ping ping” (microwave) variety, how wet the chilli was also indicated that it wasn’t fresh and was also “pinged”. The chilli had very little flavour. I ate a couple fork fulls and decided to leave the rest as I was enjoying it. The ploughman’s was rather unbelievable, it consisted of two small piles of grated cheese, a slice of wafer thin ham, a centre mound of salad, the salad looked like a pile of lettuce that had been put in a blender, a bit of onion and a slither of tomatoe, the plate was decorated around the edge with a slice of bread (with excessive amount of butter/spread) cut into quarters. It really looked like something a child had put together, it certainly was not a ploughman’s lunch. I have nothing against microwave food (if it tastes nice) but when you are charged restaurant prices, ( almost £40 for two drinks and the two meals) I feel it’s totally unacceptable

Visited yesterday (15/3/25), nice sunny day but still cold. 108 mile round trip from Crawley, good route for biking. Been there before several times, then we even gave the chef a best "Tuna mayo with red onion baguette" of the 80 cafes we visit throughout the Sussex area. And here's the rub, since the refurb last year & the introduction of the Morrisons small store food was very disappointing, we ordered the same "Tuna mayo with red onion baguette", the very friendly & polite serving person said "sorry no baguettes" can do it in a bap or as a sandwich. We opted for the sandwich, one white & one brown. We took or good quality fresh ground coffees' away & sat down awaiting the food. After a few minutes the very friendly server came to our table and said sorry no tuna, so we opted for an egg & bacon sandwich, one white one brown. The resulting sandwiches were on the thinnest, cheapest bread possible, the contents were fine. Unfortunately this has put them from the top of our table of 80 cafes for food quality & choice, all the way down to the bottom. To add salt to the wound, on our way out we walked around the inserted Morrison store, where you can purchase tins of tuna, forgot to look if the have baguettes. We like the ride there & back & will give them a second chance but there are at least 79 other cafes offering a better choice & quality of food.

Oh dear, our Thai dinner must rate as one of the worst experiences ever. The starters of chicken satay were cold and tough. The accompanying peanut sauce was tasteless. Only a fork and spoon were provided and so we had to ask for knifes! The main courses of noodles were mushy and inedible, it was supposed to be served with chicken but only two small pieces were there. The beef massaman main course was tough and over cooked. Not sure what the sauce was supposed to be but it was a congealed gloop of something brown. So, although the food was most disappointing the bottle of Malbec was excellent and a very good price. Go to the Plough for a drink and enjoy!

Met with family in Winchester for a meal. It took a while to find a pub to get booked for 6. We had Sunday lunch today. It was brilliant! And it tasted homemade rather than from the freezer. Between us we had the nut roast, roast beef, lasagna and fish pie. Excellent and generous helping of vegetables and roast potatoes.
