The last few times I’ve been in there we’ve had to send drinks back because they served drinks in dirty glassware. I’m not talking water marks or a lipstick marks, their glassware is filthy. The staff are either clueless or just don’t care. After being served a drink a glass today, I cancelled my order and left. Even if it’s close to our offices / train station, I won’t be going in there again.

This place is awful! There's discarded items on the stairs. The rooms are at the top of the property, two flights of stairs up. Not only is the place cluttered, but grubby too. It could also do with redecoration. On arrival the beds looked like they had not been changed. The bar staff said they were, but were just unmade. The TV remote had no battery cover on it and did not work. The TV works off of an internal aerial in the room. Had to position it on top of the TV to get a watchable picture. There's a 3 bulb light fitting in the room and the skinflint have got one working bulb in it! There are cracks in the ceiling that have been painted over.

Met up with a couple of family members for a few drinks, (the others also ordered a stone baked pizza) back in late September. The pub was clean and not terribly busy, (which may well be why the barman, (possibly landlord?) put the football on the television) - for which none of us had any interest in. Whilst the beer was very good, it’s a great shame neither the barman/landlord, nor the barmaid who wandered in had the courtesy to say, ‘please’ when requesting the £13 odd for the drinks. I know this is only a small point, but it doesn’t cost anything to be polite, especially when people are paying you for a service….

I can see from reading other reviews that my experience was not a one off. I had booked a room for one night. There was piles of rubbish on the stairs as I climbed up to the top of the building. The room was basic and the bed comfortable but, although there was a kettle in the room, there were no cups, tea or coffee or glasses. I had to pull the bed out and go on my hands and knees to plug in a bedside lamp. The tv reception was intermittent. I couldn’t connect to wifi. There were dried scraps of food on the carpet and the shower was only luke warm. However the bar staff was very friendly and helpful and served me a delicious pint of draught guiness! The girl even climbed up the 3 flights of stairs later to return to me my bag I had left in the bar. It was a convenient stay but, at £86, not good value and I doubt I would stay there again, unless desperate. It was definitely an interesting experience and the old fashioned pub downstairs was very friendly, although bar and tables were sticky and it looked like cleaning was not a priority 😆

Should have read the reviews for the rooms.. Only stayed the one night, won't be back. - Room 7 looked like it was in use when I walked in.. bed was hardly made. -Bed had bits of grit and hairs when checked. - The Room came with a 'Private Bathroom' which was across the hall from the room.. had no bath.. was accessible to everyone staying at the hotel.. and could not be locked, meaning I had to hold my hand against the door whilst using the toilet to prevent anyone trying to join me. - Complimentary tea and coffee.. there was a box on a cabinet that had the reminents of tea and coffee sachets but looked uses with very little in it.. again seemed like the room hadn't been serviced or cleaned. - Room looked like it hadn't been cleaned this year with dirt, hair and bits on the floor. -Walls were spattered in some areas with dried substances. -There is a blip sound like a fluorescent tube flickering every 46 seconds somewhere outside the door... this kept me up most the night.. -Room faces reigate train station.. last train was at around 23:30.. first train was 05:15... it's not something that can be ignored. -Room was very hot even on a mild day.. no fan provided -Tea mugs in the room were absolutely filthy.. looked like they belonged on a building site. -The shower and toilet were grim with used toiletries left in the shower cubicle.. along with public hairs.. -Again there was no sign the ablutions had been cleaned recently. -Light bulbs in the room and 'Private Bathroom' are out.

WHAT EVER YOU DO, PLEASE DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL/PUB!!!!!!!! I booked in this evening and my room was at the top of the building, having to walk passed piles of rubish, boxes, piles of clothes and washing products. The room was very basic, but I thought at the time it's only one night, THEN I LOOKED IN THE BATHROOM!!! The toilet was full of urine and solids and my immediate thought was this room had not been cleaned. I then pulled the covers back on the bed and the bottom sheet had not been changed and was soiled in 2 places with human waste. I then went down stairs and requested a new room. The barman was less than interested and did not want to look at the bedroom. Instead he texted the manager who told him that someone would be in changes the the sheets and wash the toilet at 6pm. I calmly waited and waited until 7pm with no responce or change of sheets, so I booked an ateritive hotel and went down to see the manager and handed the keys back in. I can see from the photos others have suffered and stayed in the same room as me today. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING A ROOM AT THIS HOTEL/BAR

Once you have got over the cluttered entrance and stair landing, the missing light bulbs, the malfunctioning toilet fan, the drawer with a broken picture, and the room number sign falling apart, ... ... you might enjoy the clean bed, the hot water in the showers, the convenience of being next to a Chinese restaurant and a coffee shop, and of course the railway station.

A lovely pub right next to the Reigate train station. Very friendly bar staff and locals, all of whom were happy to chat away the afternoon. There is a beer garden outside between the pub and the railway so I'm not sure how noisy that would be, but it did look nice. Whilst there was plant oy space to wander about, the was also ample comfortable seating to relax in and while away the afternoon. The Guinness was excellent as was the Spitfire.

Very cheep beds with poor quality bedding, The place stunk of smoke, both in the stairwells and in the rooms. Clearly not applying the law on this subject in a work place. Honestly... This is the worst hotel accommodation I have stayed at, if I could give 0 stars I would, the bathrooms are filthy with masking tape on the shower door and a disgustingly dirty with grime on the shower tray and plug. The carpets were also dirty and needed cleaning and hoovering. We had to ask for towels and had to wait 20 minutes while they went in the dryer. There was no tea or coffee in the welcome tray…… I could go on. For £80 per night this establishment is a disgrace, do not stay there

The hotel and pub itself is undergoing a renovation so the outside looks like a building site, this isn’t too much of an issue but it would have been nice to be informed before I arrived as it was quite uncomfortable to be sitting in my room with builders outside my window. The hotel room is spacious but so dirty. They seriously need to hire some housekeeping, the floor was unhoovered, the sides hadn’t been wiped down, the bin had not been emptied, the sink had hair inside, the shower had mould growing up the wall and the worst part is the toilet did not have a toilet seat. Instead I had to sit on the rim of an unwashed and simply gross toilet. The bed is so uncomfortable, I literally got no sleep as it felt like small knives were stabbing me with every movement I made. The bed sheet did not fit the mattress so it kept popping off at the sides. The lamp next to my bed did not work, and the main light bulb is so dim. On the plus side, the staff are so lovely! And the absolutely tiny tv did give me a giggle

From the other review it looks like this is quite a nice pub, unfortunately myself and my partner stayed in one of their rooms and didn't drink in the pub. For £45 a night we were expecting a basic room for function and nothing else not anything fancy but we also expected the room to be at least clean. I have no idea when the room was last checked before we stayed in it. There was a pile of either pubic hair or facial hair in a pile in the corner of the shower tray and on the power shower unit was a nicorete patch so old it was no long white. those were the worse of several things like, room wasn't hoovered, the glass mugs for morning coffee were so filthy the glass was no longer transparent and the batteries in the tv remote had leaked slightly inside the remote (which was also a different brand from their new tv). The latter issues i could have forgiven but the hair and patch in the shower isn't on. We left the room at 9am as we didn't want to stay in the room any longer than we had to and unfortunately there was nobody around for us to make a complaint to. We contacted booking.com as they were who we booked the room through but they advised us to contact The Prince of Wales first, so we did, which they ignored. Booking.com then got in touch and informed us that The Prince of Wales weren't going to offer any kind of refund. Again we are aware that £45 a night isn't going to be a night at the Ritz but cleanliness is all i really expect for that much money a night.

I think we may have stumbled across the Ghetto of Reigate. On arrival we noticed the glass in the door was boarded up, and there was piles of rubbish either side of the stairs. Staying optimistic we headed upstairs to our room. We thought we'd close the curtains and put the TV on, the curtains were completely transparent in one window, and in the other window the curtains were too small to cover the window. Light was beaming in from the platform of the train station which we were overlooking. We soon realised, after having looked for the TV control, that the lack of curtain was actually quite handy, given the fact that we had no lightbulbs. So we could use the light from outside! Genius idea to assist with global warming! Luckily we had a phone to check the time as the light was so bright all night I couldn't tell when morning had actually come.... The toilet was across the hall and didn't have a sink to wash your hands as this was in the bedrooms, 2 issues here, the towel to dry your hands was in the toilet. So one would use the toilet, touch all the door handles with dirty hands to walk to room to wash hands, then touch dirty handles on the way back to the toilet to dry your hands?? But at least my Fitbit logged the steps right! Surely that's a bonus? After the phone confirming it actually was morning we got ready to leave! Credit where credit is due there was a lovely supply of teas, green tea, chamomile, coffee etc, and also plenty of salt and peppers from McDonald's which the staff had kindly made the effort to acquire. Finding that we only had one cup, ( The other belongs to a guy called Ken ) we decided to skip the tea and leave as fast as we could! As we headed down the stairs, there was a mini assault course, of shoes, socks, a wallet and phone strewn all over the stairs suggesting that one of the other guests had either a very good - or very bad night? Lastly please be careful if you are feeling romantic, the head board isn't actually attached to the bed and the bed moved across the room meaning the headboard could possibly fall on top of you and cause a nasty injury! Enjoy your stay......

I visited this pub last week as it was located right next to Reigate station, which was convenient for me as I was travelling by train. The pub building is excellent; the outside is adorned with old fashioned painted signs, while the inside is filled with old posters, photos, signs and even the smokebox from a steam locomotive. Upon entering the pub I received a very warm welcome from the bar staff, who allowed me to move to a different table from the one I was originally allocated. They also showed me the menu, which mainly consisted of pizzas, so I went for a margherita one. At the same time as ordering the pizza I went to get a pint, but unfortunately there was no cask ale available. The other reason I had made the journey to this pub was because it is owned by Shepherd Neame, one of my favourite breweries, and living in the Midlands I don’t often get the chance to enjoy their beers on draught. Nonetheless, I realised that this was out of the immediate control of the staff, so instead went for a pint of Spitfire Lager, which was very refreshing and well served. Not long after my pizza arrived, and I was a bit underwhelmed by its size considering it cost £8.95. It was very tasty, and also included some salad and a garlic mayo dip, but I just felt that for the price it could have been a bit larger. The pizza was also served in a cardboard tray, although there might have been practical reasons for this stemming from COVID-19. It was a bit of a shame as I think that if they made their portion sizes a bit more generous then they would do really well. That said, the staff were very friendly and clearly a lot of effort has gone into making the pub appealing to visitors, so I will be visiting again the next time I’m passing through Reigate.

Very very sad to see a pub go down hill so fast. The chef has obviously changed as so has the standard of food.... All but 3 or 4 of the staff are under 18. They stand around talking about chatting. The young bar lady spent most of the time openly and loudly discussing her sex life with her male friend who was drinking at the table near by very loudly. Only one Ale on tap and tasted rotten. Alone, which I’m sure doesn’t meet health and safety regulations...but anyway. Pub as always, if you have done your research, was really busy. Drinks ran out, man staying in b&b got locked out, young lady behind bar could not keep up with chaos, rightly so. She tried to contact manager...to no avail. Ended up in tears in toilet! Guess what? Locals rallied around and went behind bar, served drinks and collected glasses. Consoled the young lady. Will I go back? I very much doubt it.

On the plus side the linen and towels were clean. Our room was on the second floor accessible by a winding staircase not ideal for carrying a suitcase up. The headboard was loose so every time you moved it banged against the wall. There was a sink in the room which unless you had the curtains drawn could be viewed from the garden and platform. The toilet and shower were across the hallway which was accessible by all residents so we were not sure if it was only for our use. The toilet was filthy and the shower hose leaked but the water was hot. There was no way of contacting reception incase of emergency or a card saying what to do or wifi password, if it had one, my fault for not asking. The breakfast basket consisted of a bottle of water,a biscuit and a children’s drink. The kettle had to be plugged into a floor extension lead as there was no socket at waist height. The first morning we made tea it had a bad taste but we put this down to the water so not wanting to make a fuss we said nothing, our mistake. The second morning we realised it was the milk was curdled. I tried to contact the proprietor but the bar was locked. There was a kitchen on the first floor which I am sure was not for residents use but I looked in the fridge and cupboards for some milk, (it was filthy). I then went across the road to a cafe and purchased 2 teas. When we went to check out they offered 50pence for the milk, we settled on £5. I feel we were at fault for not researching this accommodation better but be be warned this property is in very poor condition and because of its location you certainly won’t have a lye in. One star is generous.

We were a bit rowdy & needy but our waitress took it in good stead. Typical pub grub but massive portion sizes & great value for money! Cheap & cheerful. Lovely decor inside & very accommodating staff who let us switch our table last minute. They have a wide selection of drinks & bar snacks. Some of the people writing on here about service have an axe to grind - OK, so the owner doesnt smile obsequisously and fawn at your every desire - at most of the times described above he was probably pretty busy - no time for patronising genuflection. The staff are well trained, effective and the tapas, as already said are fine and good value. I go to a pub to meet friends and possibly make new ones - not to get a cheap smile from the landlord, or a wink from a barmaid. Jeez, some people. Fine pub - go there and enjoy. PS, if you stand by the sink/glass washer, you are bound to be surrounded by glasses - use your head and move.

I recently visited Reigate to catch up with some "old" friends. I flew into Gatwick then jumped on the train straight through to Reigate train station where upon I came across a great pub next door, The Prince of Wales. Rude not to I thought, so in I went for a small libation! I was warmly greeted by the bar staff. I had to admit that my knowledge of Shepherd and Neame beers was not good but I can confidently assure you that I am now! The landlord talked me through all the real ales of which I got a small taste of each. I had prebooked accommodation elsewhere for my first 2 nights stay but booked into The Prince for Saturday and Sunday and I was not disappointed wiith the room either. Beautiful room, very comfortable, slept like a log, great shower. On realising I had left my deodorant behind at the last hotel, I asked the landlady where the nearest shop was. She 9disappeared off up stairs and came back with a can of 'soft and gentle' , now there's service. The weather was considerate enough to allow us to make full use of the beer garden. Gorgeous food, nothing from freezer to fryer in this joint, can't wait to go back when the bbq is being fired up. All in all an absolute brilliant find. A big thank you to Keith and Theresa, all the staff and of course the happy (and sure, why wouldn't they be) locals. I'll be back soon.

Staff are very friendly and are always happy to help. I would recommend this pub to everyone. The refurbishment they have had done is amazing wow what a difference. In my opinion this is the best pub in Reigate

This pub has for me great location which is close to train station. I like selection of beer, polite staff and option of cash back. They have excellent tapas menu. It is really delicious and worth of tasting.

This pub is close to where I work and we often go there for team drinks on a Friday. It's been refurbished in the last year or so and it looks great, welcoming and cosy.Fantastic homemade tapas and decent lunchtime menu. Always has a good atmosphere too.

Wouldn't recommend, many other good pubs in Reigate, didn't find staff overly friendly and atmosphere not particularly welcoming.

Just had to write this..Visited the pub on Friday (20/02) to meet a friend for 5 pints. Been in the pub many times (and spent a load of money in the place) since it was refurbished and each time I have not been impressed by the level of customer service and the fact that the landlord sells Whitstable Bay Bitter at £4.10 a pint! What is the landlord's problem? Mr happy needs to retire or go and work in ****hole like the pub used to be. It is a real shame as the pub could be so much better if the staff and service improved, the bods from the Shepherd Neame should do a random visit if you ask me. I won't be going back in a hurry and would rather spend my money elsewhere.

I came in on a Friday evening after a quick drink, whilst being served I asked the lady (she was short, late 40s with blonde hair) if she could get rid of the large head on the Guinness I had ordered. She tried to use a straw to get rid of it. As I work for a pub I gave some constructive advice on how to do this only to get told that I don't need to tell her how to do her job and she started muttering under her breath. I told her that the level of customer service she had offered was poor only to get a horrible glare and sarcastic laugh back at me. I was taken aback by this as I had said it politely and didn't expect such a rude reaction. To finish it off whilst sitting at the bar I had a young man who worked there continuously putting dirty glasses in front of me whilst I tried to enjoy my beverage. I've never felt so uncomfortable and couldn't wait to finish my drink so I could leave.

Well located next door to Station very well managed, quality beers and service. Traditional pub menu healthy portions freshly cooked and wholesome. Whilst I loved the old style format this is a pub that has been nicely refurbished in a more modern style which has been tastefully executed.. A pub frequented by locals offering great banter and hospitality. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Reigate for a good pint. Well priced friendly service a top notch pub highly recommended.

I have to admit, I like old pubs. I'm not a big supporter of changing pubs into sit down restaurants. I am old school. However, I think the Prince of Wales here have done it right. The new decor is comfortable, it has a nice selection of drinks. The food format is a selection of small tapas style dishes. It hasn't gone down the route of overly emphasising on being a restaurant; but the food was still surprisingly nice; they washed down very well with the beer.We really enjoyed our visit, a very chilled out evening.

36 of us from Woodhatch WI went for the Christmas dinner menu. We had an area of the restaurant set aside for us. When we arrived the tables were beautifully set and crackers were provided for us. Everyone agreed they had really enjoyed their meal. All the meals arrived hot and we were served quickly considering the size of the group. The staff were fantastic, the food was both delicious and plentiful. The lemon meringue Sunday was my favourite dessert this year. I highly recommend this very friendly pub/restaurant.

Very disappointed. We were a little late because the road was closed and we had to go a long way to get there, the lady behind the bar was not happy with us even after we apologised. The price of each of our meals was £18 so you expect a good standard. The fish in the fish and chips was very small and overcooked and the peas were barely warm. The fish pie had one king prawn in it and was served with 8 green beans and 2 halves of carrot. The aubergine gratin was burnt and when I asked for another one the waitress said it was supposed to look like that, but when I pointed out that its possible to cook it without burning it she took it away. All in all, it wasn't a nice experience and we certainly won't be going back.

We had cravings - for beer and for something sweet. Two pints were duly necked. The warm double chocolate fondant with coffee ice cream definitely hit the spot - possibly the best ever. Staff were good too.

We booked for their festive menu. The decor is beautiful at Christmas time. So festive. Unfortunately the atmosphere, service and food did not match the decor which was really disappointing. Combined with the meal being average at best, we were also shocked to find that a house bottle of red wine was £30! My son asked for a bread roll with butter and got a slice of toast plus his meal arrived after everyone had finished. Although, in fairness, they did not charge us for his meal as a result. Nor could my daughter eat her butternut soup as it was way too spicy. It’s a lovely venue for a pint but the quality of the food needs to improve a lot before we would ever consider eating there again unfortunately.

Planning permission was eventually received for conversion of the pub into residential units - and work has now commenced on the car park. A great pity - as this pub has played a large part in the lives of the local Reigate Hill community for many decades, and now has gone forever.
