Planning permission was eventually received for conversion of the pub into residential units - and work has now commenced on the car park. A great pity - as this pub has played a large part in the lives of the local Reigate Hill community for many decades, and now has gone forever.

An application for conversion into flats was recently declined - after neighbours objected. The last grumpy landlord completely killed the business, even before coranovirus and roadworks did the rest.

This is our local pub/restaurant and we heard it was under new ownership and a new menu - largely Italian. But I had a lovely fish and chips and my wife a risotto which she equally enjoyed. We also had great friendly service and wish the new owners and staff every success. And we are looking forward to returning.

My wife and I decided to go to the Yew Tree for Sunday lunch, today. We were a little taken back when we found out that instead of traditional pub food they only served Italian food with a couple of English dishes. There are many Italian restaurants in Reigate town centre. However the staff were particularly friendly and helpful so we decided to stay. And we were glad we did. The food was served piping hot and freshly cooked and it was simply delicious. Far better than the other Italian restaurants in Reigate. It was also very reasonably priced. My main costing about £10.95 was Spaghetti Frutti di Mare which was literally heaped with seafood of salmon, mussels, calamari, shrimps and clams on spaghetti. The amount was almost too much for me. My wife had Chicken Milanese at £12.95. It included battered chicken lightly fried with a creamy mushroom sauce with veg and chips. She found it too much to finish and said it was superb. The pub has been under new management, with Antonio at the helm, for the past 9 months and they have been serving Italian food since October. But don't just take my word for it, try it for yourselves as I'm sure you will agree with me after trying it.

What a fantastic Restaurant & Pub, Tony & his team saved my Christmas at very short notice, they were able to catered for my Christmas Day with my 2 children, plus 10 other family members, the meat was specially ordered from his butchers that very morning and we had a fantastic meal, this was made I’ve better by the wonderful staff and brilliant atmosphere of the venue, we all left feeling really impressed with the quality and value food, especially at a time of the year that they could of easily exploited my rather desperate situation... Very well done to all at the Yew Tree, we will be back very soon..

We stayed in Reigate for a night as we were flying out of Gatwick the next day. We ended up eating at the yew tree after the accommodation that we were staying in (located 2 minute drive away) said they were unsure if the chef would be cooking. We definitely made the right choice. From the very friendly welcome to the 3 courses of hot, tasty, reasonably priced well proportioned dishes, I have no complaints and would eat here again if I was ever in the area

So disappointed - steak with a peppercorn sauce..... in reality just a horrid cream sauce. Risotto - boiled rice with a tomato sauce poured on top with a couple of king prawns and mussels sprinkled on top. Really hoping we had a nice pub to walk to.

We booked for a get together of 8 friends - called and booked no problem. Warm welcome to a well stocked bar of interesting spirits.... Lovely team looking after us, small menu, but I appreciate a venue that focuses on doing a few things really well. Bruschetta, Calamari, Olives and Muscles for starter - fresh, tasty and plenty of it. The lady looking after our table did such a good job of selling the special that we all had the king prawn and chilli linguine. Again, delicious! A few of our group had Tiramisu and tarts for pudding. Great drinks selection, simple food cooked really well. Will definitely be back. Can't wait for the pizza oven to be installed soon!

I have a gluten allergy so called up beforehand and was delighted they could serve gluten free pasta. The staff seemed very switched on about allergies which is always reassuring. Our party of 2 couples stayed about 75 yards away at Reigate Manor and walked in, on 2 evenings. Seated immediately. Felt at home, a real neighborhood pub place. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food came out promptly. Had the fish n chips, baked sole, rib eye steak, pork n mushroom pie. All were very good. The owner came our table both nights and regaled us with a story and showed friendly interest in what we were doing, which was vacationing. He gave us knowledgeable advice and ideas of what to see. The Wednesday night steak special was especially good. We went back a second time because we liked it and Tony and Haley made us feel so welcome.

Under new management we wanted to investigate the Yew Tree and were certainly not disappointed. We have eaten in most restaurants in and around Reigate including Tony Tobins The Dining room (sadly now closed), La Barbe, The Blackhorse, Arkle Manor, The Pheasant, Cafe Rouge, Regional Thai etc etc. Tonight's meal at The Yew Tree was excellent, the stuffed sea bass was amazing and a big surprise from the previous pub grub that the Yew Tree previously served. The Sea bass was stuffed with samphire and served on a bed of new potatoes with wrapped green beans, crispy cabbage garnish and roasted Chanteney carrots. A fantastic meal.

Dropped into the Yew Tree last night - 1Jun19 after Epsom races - we were staying at the Bridge House Hotel, a ten min. walk up the hill. Had noticed this pub the day before and said how inviting it looked. Customr at hotel said he'd been in that afternoon and just loved it said and how friendly it was esp. as he was on his own. Anyway, Food was really good - hubby had huge fish and chips and me the aubergine starter (altho-' it was a generous size - am sure they gave me more as I had it as a main!) - naughty as it was deep-fried but SO tasty - don't know what they did to it to make it so tasty. Staff very attentive - the lovely young woman who's name escapes me as I am a bit of a sieve-head, couldn't do enough and was professional and warm. Had a laugh with her. The pie was superb, packed full of juicy tender flavoursome beef. The veg, baby carrots & parsnips (both oven roasted) were perfect and green beans cooked in garlic and wrapped in leek were al denté and just as they should be. My wife and I have visited the Yew Tree on several occasions in the past and we’ve always enjoyed the staff and food there. We booked a table last Sunday and when we arrived we’re surprised to find we were the only people in there because it’s normally very busy. We both ordered some drinks and a beef roast each but felt slightly uncomfortable with the atmosphere. The food then came out and we were both very disappointed with the quality. Also no Yorkshire puddings with a beef roast and no explanation!? It’s a real shame because we used to love it in there but we won’t be back.

Previous to this last visit we visited for a 80th birthday celebration at the beginning of January 2019 & was delighted with a most wonderful meal & an enjoyable evening. Have just visited again & was not aware the pub had changed hands & wish we had known. Will not be visiting again. When running a business rudeness to the customer is not expected from the manager when an enquiry is made. Then to be challenged by the chef in the car park was the final straw.

I went with my grandson today and we were greeted cordially and asked if we wished to see the menu, but as we had been many times in the past, we said no we were fine. But then we were shown the menu- on a chalkboard, there were only 4 choices of main meal, 2 were fish and there was steak, we asked about the pies that were a real delight on previous occasions but were told the pub had been taken over a few weeks ago and they were introducing a new menu. I asked for a coke without ice, but was served a glass with ice and a bottle, when I picked up the bottle it was obvious why the glass contained ice as the bottle was warmer than warm. We left without finishing our drinks.

We went for a walk not too long ago, and stopped here halfway around for lunch. It had a very cosy feel inside, and we got a table in the restaurant. When we received the menus they had a whole separate burger menu, so we thought we'd be stupid not to go for a burger, as this must be their speciality. We weren't wrong - the burgers were delicious AND massive! I'm not normally a huge fan of chips, but I ate every single one of these. To sum up, the pub has a nice atmosphere, very good value food, cider was very crisp and refreshing too, so well worth a visit!

Picked because we had tried so many other local eateries over the years and our numbers have dwindled (thank you Mr Cameron and Mrs May) and it is local. Fairly sparse inside (about 7 others) but it was early evening, and we were told that we were the first of the seasons Christmas meal crowd! Lovely decorations and a nice cosy feel to the place, with faux leather armchairs and other comfy seating. Our host (a South African sounding chap) was jovial and attentive. Meal was nice, all the usual trimmings but a tad uninspired imo and a little overpriced. My starter (soup) was just on the safe side of warm. The desserts were well proportioned. We gave a healthy tip more for effort and high spirits than actual quality, BUT we were the first as mentioned and I fully expect that it will get much better as the season progresses. It wasn't bad, but it can be so much more!

Recommended here as family members have eaten here before, and place is really nice, great feel about it and decent beers on tap. Service was very pleasant and helpful, but we were aware we were ordering at the end of Sunday lunch service. 2 Sunday beef roasts were not the best, fatty and end cut, but to be fair we were offered 2 desserts in recognition of this. Left me with a feel that it could do better and probably just our misfortune, but I’ve got to rate this how I see it. If I come back, we’ll arrive earlier and try Sunday lunch again when hopefully the food would be what others we know say it is.

Booked in after having failed at central Reigate restaurants which were all full until late. I haven’t been in the Yew Tree since it became a gastro pub and I was delighted to find that although it’s been freshly decorated, the 1930s panelling and ambience have been retained. The bar at 730pm was still full of a Christmas lunch party but, surprisingly the restaurant area was empty. We were served by attentive and knowledgable staff and the menu was varied and interesting - not Michelin but good and reasonably priced. For main course we both chose the Steak and Kidney Pie and were expecting individual small pies. But we were given huge slices of a full sized pie, crammed full of delicious filling, accompanied by lovely mash and fresh, lightly cooked veg. We had little room for pud - the choice was again good. We went for lemon posset and orange sorbet. We’ll certainly return. The Yew Tree deserves to be as hard to book as its rivals in the middle of town!

Met up here with friends for a drink. Made to feel very uncomfortable from the moment we walked in. There was no one eating in the restaurant ( a little unusual at 8pm on a Saturday night.) By 9 there were just 2 groups left in the bar. They clearly wanted to close and kept glaring at us and clearing away. Every time a glass or bottle was emptied someone would come and clear it away, reaching across us and without asking. We ordered coffee but we're informed he'd just switched the machine off. He did reluctantly make one but it took ages. The barman informed the other group if they wanted another drink they needed to order it 'now' as he was closing in 15mins. They left their drinks and went to find another pub. That was just after 10. Think we will be finding a new venue to meet with friends. Such a shame as it is in a great location, just a few mins from the M25. We have met up here many times over the years but don't think we will be back.

I'm not quite sure what went wrong in the kitchen, and I must say the woman behind the bar was the most gracious, calm, professional, friendly employee I have ever met, and she even offered us free hot drinks to make up for the fiasco the kitchen set upon our country walking group of 14. We had pre-ordered the food 3 days ago and gave them the exact time of our arrival, 1:45pm. A taxi was awaiting 1/2 of our group at 2:45 to get them to a 3:11 train in Merstham. They were not served (in aluminium foil by this time) until 2:50 (over an hour late) and had to run off with their 'takeaway lunches' and celebrate a birthday in a speeding taxi! Not quite what we had envisioned. The place does seem understaffed, it is quite a large pub, and no matter how excellent the woman behind the bar was, this pub needs at least 2 or three people behind the bar at busy times.

I have been there twice in past fortnight for lunch and both times the food was very good. The staff member was good but unfortunately one member of staff is just not enough. He had to greet people using restaurant and serve both people eating and others just having a drink. He has to answer phone, clear tables and collect food from kitchen to serve. When we left on both occasions we had to wait to pay our bill because a delivery had arrived for the cellar and the staff member had to leave the pub area to go and take delivery. We didn't mind waiting but on first occasion it was nearly 10 minutes with no staff to be seen. The parking on second occasion was difficult as two cars had been parked very badly over lines thus preventing anyone using car space next to them. This won't put me off using The Yew Tree again but do think the owner should not expect one member of staff to do everything regardless how busy they are.

Initially we were seated in the bar and our drinks order was taken. Although we had been advised by the barman that we could order food after 1.30 (It was then 1.05) we were then told that the kitchen was refusing to cook for us because the restaurant was fully booked. There were reserved signs on every table but only one table was occupied. We used to eat there fairly regularly but after the complete lack of customer care and total intransigence shown by the kitchen management it is not a place I will recommend or visit ever again. Met a friend who had never been here before. Clinton is a really friendly host and the staff are lovely. Enjoyed two dishes off the specials menu which were delish! Keep some room for dessert, the coffee panacotta was divine! Have had Sunday lunch there too and that was also good.

This restaurant offers delicious typical English food. It's downside is that it closes early at 9.00pm. Our friends arrived at 8.45pm and were sent back outside even though there were empty tables.

Popped in here yesterday (Mon 26/06) for lunch. We'd seen the place for a number of years when visiting our son in Reigate and always thought it deserved a visit. We were not disappointed. Nice clean bar and restaurant and equally nice small garden which was a definite sun trap . Food was first class. A wholesome and filling ploughmans and a hearty fish finger butty which was actually three pieces of fresh fish, battered in a brioche bun. With chips and only £6.95. Great value. We will be back. No kids area we saw so more of an adult, couples pub I would suggest.

I was staying at the hotel a bit further up so decided to stop here for dinner. I had chicken supreme, which consisted of a leg of chicken with spinach, mashed potato and a little jig of creamy sauce. The chicken was meant to be in cheese and wrapped with bacon but I couldn't taste the cheese. It was still tasty.I had the chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and cream. The chocolate was rich and lovely. There wasn't enough sauce to be able to taste it and the cream was just single pouring creamI had a small bottle of still water. I was astonished to find it came to £23, pretty pricey

We met our friends here as it is a half way journey for both of us.Tonight has been the perfect evening. The service was not rushed, the food delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I commend the owner and staff on their professionalism and laid back attitude, it's so refreshing in a world of restaurants who insist on two hour sittings then you have to leave!Go folks, it's a lovely pub and a great gastronomic experience.

Met a friend here as a halfway point between our homes following seeing the TA reviews. Couldn't decide what to eat as the menu had such a great assortment of delicious dishes to choose from. Chose the "smoky" burger from the "Gourmet burger" menu and it was excellent. Terrific service too so would definitely recommend.

Really nice cosy traditional pub, with an open fire when its cold. Good wholesome food, with well kept beer. Well worth a visit, parking can sometimes be difficult .... you can park done the side road, it says private, but you can legally park there. [I am told] or park in Raglan Road nearby ...... 2 mins walk.

Good food. Pleasant service. Very unobtrusive staff. Would go again. Nice atmosphere throughout. Burger looked very tasty but quite substantial. Need a good appetite for that

A refurbished old pub on a busy main road. Parking is a bit restricted and it is bang next door a petrol station making getting in and out a bit tricky. The old pub has been converted into a friendly seating area after the entrance and the restaurant follows. Everything has been thoughtfully and nicely done. You get the impression that they have given a lot of attention and consideration to every aspect and it shows. The menu is excellent and interesting and the quality of the food on our several visits has always been excellent. Service is just right. It attracts a sophisticated and business clientele. Beautiful garden with seating for those who want to stay outside. Budget on around £15 a head for a main course and a drink.

We decided to miss out the motorway and go through towns from London to Brighton. Our GPS told us we would have to go into Reigate if we wanted to eat and then suddenly we saw the Yew Tree sign and stopped at what we had been looking for. A lovely old English pub. The waiter couldn't do enough for us, the chef was eager to know what we thought of her vegetarian dishes (lovely). We felt really appreciated and valued. It is also very good value. Will be missing out the motorway in future!

Came for business and had a gorgeous meal. The taster of home made hummus was a good touch to start. For main course my colleague had the smoked burger which was perfectly pink in the middle. My chicken supreme from the specials board was fantastically seasoned with a lovely jus/gravy. The vegetables were crisp and al dente. All in all a superb meal at a really good price for the area, around 34 quid for the two of us.The service was great and very friendly. We'll be back as we have a project in the area.

We have been to this Establishment a couple of times for drinks and a meal - food good for a Pub but given the competition in Reigate it should be - the issue we have is the Manager / Landlord - just plain and simple rude - not someone for the service industry ! Seems to think you should be privileged to be his guests - speaking to friends he seems to have this reputation - rather spend my money in the many restaurants in Reigate and receive a warm welcome

Popped in for a quick drink on way home, hadn't been in the Yew Tree for years and what a delight. Beautiful surroundings and the two guys behind the bar could not have done enough for us. So knowledgeable on the wines and so welcoming, brought out some complimentary nibbles of home made hummus just for us and even let my wife finish off the bottle of wine that was recommended as there wasn't enough for a full glass and it was the last one! Very rare to get customer service above & beyond like this, we will definitely be going back...the food looked & smelt amazing! Thanks guys, see you soon! Nicky & Neil.

I first came to the yew tree 9 years ago when i moved into the area .. i had only came back a few times until a year ago when i moved soo close it wasnt even a 5 minute walk. In the last year we have visited on.numerous occasions to celebrate family birthdays or just for the ease of not having to cook ... in the last year the food which started out exceptional has sadly deteriorated alot!! Today we went for a family meal and i found not only was i unable to eat my main but then my pudding aswell ( which was offered as a freebie due to the main). Im sad to say that whilst the service remains excellent the food does not and therefore would only recommend in the summer for drinks !!

We had a client to entertain for the evening and choose to dine at The Yew Tree. The decor is "old-English" pub style... perfect for our client who was interested to go somewhere typically English. The food is more bistro-bar-resto, than pub style, and of a high quality. I recommend the fish of the day and the Yew Tee Cheesecake, which is a firm favourite of mine. Our client totally loved the Yew Tree and has actually recommended that his colleagues go there on their next trip. Very handy to have The Best Western Hotel, next to the pub. Excellent customer service - Clinton is very friendly and chatty waiter... always has time for all his customers and makes them all feel special.

I visited as part of a group of 10. We didn't order starters but we received a delicious vegetarian pate with crackers & cucumber which was a very nice surprise.Main courses were very nice. The chicken, leek and ham pie had nice big chunks of filling and was delicious although the pastry was a bit disappointing. The cheeseboard was lovely, but 3 of our group ordered the ginger & lemongrass panacotta. This had no wobble and tasted of boiled cream and gelatine only; it was beautifully presented but tasted rather unpleasant. So overall a mixed experience

The Yew Tree has a relaxed and homely atmosphere which made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We shall certainly be back!

Really nice service for a late lunch today (approx 3.30pm) for 3 people. Allergies were very well handled - my son has severe ones, the waiter listened carefully to his allergies and what we would possibly like to order and checked with the chef (sadly not all restaurants are on the ball). Meals arrived hot and everyone enjoyed their choice. Ingredients were fresh and meals well presented. Thank you to gentleman and lady serving us today, they are a credit to your business! On a side note - toilets were clean and so was the restaurant area.

Very disappointed. We were a little late because the road was closed and we had to go a long way to get there, the lady behind the bar was not happy with us even after we apologised. The price of each of our meals was £18 so you expect a good standard. The fish in the fish and chips was very small and overcooked and the peas were barely warm. The fish pie had one king prawn in it and was served with 8 green beans and 2 halves of carrot. The aubergine gratin was burnt and when I asked for another one the waitress said it was supposed to look like that, but when I pointed out that its possible to cook it without burning it she took it away. All in all, it wasn't a nice experience and we certainly won't be going back.

Outstanding friendly service and good quality food. Had the wings and ham eggs and chips. Good size potions, lovely fresh carved ham, none of the thin packet stuff. Food was piping hot and 2 course for £10.25 just amazing value. Friendly food servers and bar staff. Will be back
