The best restaurants serving British food in South East

A wonderful cosy pub. We visiting friends here as we live in Cornwall. Our Sunday Roast was absolutely fantastic and delicious, one of the best we have had in a pub.. plenty of food, well cooked, lovely Homemade Yorkshire pudding. A credit to the Chef and His team. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.shall go there again before we go Home. Thankyou to you all.

Popped into the Famous Ship after a walk from Folkstone for a late lunch and a drink. Cosy atmosphere and delicious burgers, a nice selection of gins and pints to pick from and friendly service. Looking forward to coming back.

Popped in for a quick pint ended up staying all evening. Macy was an awesome hostess who was hilarious and a lot of fun. Happy new year Macy!

We had the Festive menu, the chicken starter was ok but needed something more than just a sauce, my Xmas dinner was warm not fresh and hot and could have done with more gravy, pudding was good. The food normally is very good and always hot.

Had Christmas lunch today 25/12. All food lovely all served hot each course could not fault and all staff worked really hard!! Well done to all!

Lovely lunch and a good size plus a bottle of red. Friendly service in an old English pub. Looking forward to better weather so we can sit in the garden.

Absolutely superb experience all round. We were a group of 6 and had chosen the hotel for a family lunch as it was easy to find, easy to get to, accessible for the infirm and located half way between Woking and Poole. We were all blown away by our experience. Super surroundings, the hotel had such a lovely feel to it and was so warm and cosy. The staff were really friendly and couldn’t have done more for us. We had lunch in the conservatory which had lovely views and provided us with privacy too. The food was excellent, tasty, beautifully presented and incredible value. The menu was really well balanced and included plenty of local fare. 5 stars all round. We will return! Thank you.

We simply wanted a break on our way to London. But it was more than that. A fine welcome, excellent food and a jolly fine beer. We chose 2 starters each, brilliant.

We were booked into this room as a gift from a family member. I looked at the website and saw parking was available and they had a late licence. I called before our visit to check parking would be available as it is right in the city centre. I also asked for our room to be away from the noise from the late licence. I was assured by a male member of staff that parking would be available and as our room was at the rear of the hotel we would be ok for the noise. On arrival there was no parking. I had to leave my partner in the car and go into the pub/hotel for advice. It was a tiny reception desk at the end of the bar. I was told to park in the multi storey car park nearby and they would cover the cost in the morning. Not the stress free start we were promised on the website. Apparently they have no way of stopping anyone from using their spaces. The room was dated and cold. There was a portable heater to use which we did. The disposable ear plugs were a worry but I just hoped they were for really light sleepers. On return to the hotel at about 11pm, after a meal the music was loud and it was packed. Its basically a full on nightclub. The noise in the room was horrendous. the music was coming through the walls and the floor. It was gone 3am before the music died down enough to sleep. We were too tired to even attempt breakfast and when I complained about the noise, the lady just said she was told it was busy last night. I was told I had to complain to management via emails to get a refund. When I first complained it was declined because the website states there will be noise. I had to send a further message to underline my situation and complaint. Eventually they agreed and refunded the full amount. Now if you want a room above a nightclub because you are going to the nightclub then this hotel will be perfect as you wont want to sleep before 3am. Any other guests please be aware it is loud and very busy. I must state I am not reviewing the club or pub as I didn't use either. The photos show a tired room and it needs a overhaul. It is great for being right in the city centre. If it wasn't for the parking and the noise it would have been a different review. The 2 stars are for the location and the staff who were very polite.

Honestly the best food and service on Christmas Day! Truly wonderful! Couldn't ask for more, from start to finish... they really go above and beyond to make the whole experience so enjoyable

Great pub. Open till late Friday and Saturday.. Affordable drinks. Staff were great. Lots of screens, showing all the sports.

I spent 3 wonderful days at The Bear Inn. I stayed in the Pooh Room, which was very comfortable. The breakfasts were served in unique baskets. The meals in the pub were also good and the staff were very friendly. The Inn is also close to Pooh Tea Room, which consists of a gift shop and museum, and the meals are delicious.
