The Windrush Inn in West Oxfordshire

We visited this pub for a midweek evening meal and a pint or two. It was fairly quiet with a dozen or so diners and a few people in the bar. The menu was brought to our table by a very helpful member of staff who appeared to be doing everything from serving behind the bar, taking meal orders etc. The choice on the menu was good and the meal myself and my wife had was very nice and plentiful. That's the good bits. Now for the not so good bits. The pub was freezing!! I appreciate its April and we should really have to supplement comfort by adding a bit of heat but sadly it's England and sometimes heat is what's needed. There was not heat on in the pub and it was very noticeable. I heard several people make comment on how cold it was and even the pub cat must have been could as he climbed inside of my coat. There were also no lights on in the toilets and I had to ask the bar staff to turn them on as they were clearly controlled from behind the bar. I understand that times are tough and savings need to be made but sadly it doesn't make me want to drop in on a regular basis.

I had the carvery and it was amazing, im disabled myself so they were very accommodating with it, and helped me with my plate back to the table and made sure i was okay, pudding were incredible too

We all had the Sunday carvery and wow, incredible and the manager is so lovely, nothing is a problem. She bent over backwards to accommodate my son (rice) And the roast diners were incredible

Friendly welcome, lovely pub and great food. Couldn’t fault the staff, very helpful and attentive. Cheesecake dessert was amazing!

Our party was 3 families, 6 adults, 6 children (most 4 and under). Although the pub was busy we were looked after very well. We had the kids area, which was great as the children could play until the food arrived. The carvery was very good - a decent Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. The staff were all very nice and helpful.

We booked The Windrush Inn for Sunday lunch as we were in the area to meet family / look at wedding venues. Service was superb. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, nothing was too much trouble and we saw how popular the place was with locals. Sunday lunch was a carvery which was very nice. Selection of meats available with all the trimmings and best of all, it was piping hot. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and a couple of us even had room for pudding - which were equally as good. Thank you for a lovely lunch. We would 100% recommend and return in the future.

We have an excellent experience for our family dinner. All the dishes were great with a very nice presentation and very tasty. The service was very good.

A tastefully decorated, spacious pub with ample parking and two further outstanding attributes. Firstly the two young ladies waiting on us this evening were exemplary in every way and contributed massively to our enjoyment of the evening . Secondly, the quality of our meal was simply outstanding and has ensured our return soon...very soon!

We were a party of 18 celebrating a 60th Birthday. On arrival we were made to feel most welcome and our table was already set up for us. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was of an average price for a pub. When our good arrived it was hot and of an excellent standard and cooked extremely well and the portions were very good. Deserts were a bit pricey but good sizes. All in all the experience was excellent and we will definitely go again. Well done The Windrush. Keep up the good work.

Went for a birthday lunch today were made to feel very welcome . We had perfectly cooked fillet steaks which cut like butter. All very enjoyable

We had a private function here for my dad’s wake. From the minute we walked in to the minute we all left, nothing was too much trouble. We were looked after so well by every single member of staff. Everybody was served quickly and the buffet was fantastic, I know dad would have loved to have got stuck in, as the rest of us did. Every option was top quality. Congratulations on a well run operation. I will have no hesitation to sing your praises at every opportunity.

We attended today for a birthday lunch. There were 12 of us, including 2 children. The staff were absolutely fantastic, friendly and attentive. Our food (pre ordered) arrived promptly and all together. Everyone commented on the excellent quality of the food and how delicious it was. We cannot wait to visit again!

Booked Sunday lunch for 5 adults. First time trying out the carvery roast and ….. we will be back!!! From the warm welcome to the friendly service and superb lunch .. we couldn’t fault it!! You usually think you can’t beat or equal a home cooked roast at a pub well here you can!!!! Great home cooked style food , hot and cooked well… it was a real treat finding a local pub that serves a fantastic roast like this! Thanks everyone you were brilliant and we will return for sure!!

We visited the Windrush last night for my partners Birthday and to say the staff, food and drink were exceptional is an understatement. Absolutely fantastic starters, Deli board, Prawn Linguni, fish cakes, ham egg and chips and chicken nugs for our little one. Will be back very soon. Thank you

We have just had the best few hours enjoying the sunshine and the excellent food and service at the Windrush pub! Considering all the restrictions still in place Mia and her team have been absolutely brilliant this afternoon. Staff were attentive and the food we had was incredible! Absolutely lovely afternoon catching up with family. I would suggest booking though as there were so many people turned away! So thankful we had our table pre-booked.Thank you so much for a fabulous afternoon. We will definitely be returning soon X

Haven’t used this pub for a couple of years or so, had a takeaway tonight, family of 6, more than enough in regards to portion size! Burgers were absolutely beautiful, kids loved there’s, can’t for ask more than that. And who would of known that corn on the cob could taste so good! Staff very helpful and pleasant! Will definitely be back for more!

The food is soooo good and we just had a takeaway. Can’t wait to visit for a proper sit down meal when all the restrictions are relaxed. A proper Witney gem!

Although I'm writing this in January 2021 I initially ordered a Christmas turkey meal which I collected on Christmas Eve. For one person there was loads of food, so much so that I managed to have one meal on Christmas Day and a further full meal the following day - all beautifully cooked, tasty and good value.I've just had another take away roast (beef) which was equally very tasty and, I think, very good value. I shall definitely use the Windrush again. These are my first experiences of the Windrush and I've been very impressed. Service over the phone was good and when I went to collect the meals having been given timed slots it was all socially distanced. Now it's time for a snooze!!

Called in for Lunch today after a bit of shopping in town, the welcome was very friendly and the steaks were beautifully cooked and tasty in fact everything on the plate was delicious, couldn’t fault it at all.

Called in for a carvery under tier 2 restrictions. Staff could not have been more professional or more helpful. Safety measures were brilliant. Staff all had a smile and nothing was too much trouble. Food was lovely. Well worth a visit

Booked a table for my birthday and couldn't have asked for better. Everyone had a starter and main and 3 of us had dessert... And all agreed that the food was amazing. Was a slight issue with the bill afterwards but was rectified. I think after the issues this year it is exactly the place I would keep on returning to. You guys and gals should be proud

Having read reviews on TA and heard that the food here was good, we decided to give it a try. Ages since had been in and pleasantly surpirsed by the ' new' look. Staff were friendly and the menu was standard pub grub with prices to match West Oxfordshirt. However was disappointed in the mean itself, poor qulaity scampi, luke warm chips and quite small portion.Won't be rushing back

Stopped off on the way back from staycation with my husband and baby girl. The staff could not have been more accommodating. Great service, lovely food, caters for little ones, and covid secure. Would recommend!

When arrived we were seated and given menus, meals are definitely overpriced. Drinks ordered taken only to be told the pub had “Run out of beer” kind of think this is rule one when running a pub is to make sure you have enough stock! You wouldn’t expect to go swimming and the pool had run out of water. The waitress laughed at the issue and was more than happy to scurry off. Social distance tabled were fine until we went leave and the “party” at the back that was going on wasn’t social distanced at all. There are honestly far better pubs around which you could support.

We ate here as apart of the eat out scheme. The staff were very organised during the virus and it felt very normal when eating. The staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant/pub is very large and welcoming, with a large beer garden and tables on the front. In addition there is a large car park which is handy for anyone coming from further. Food: Lovely standard pub meals, fast service and fresh food. Staff: Great, very accommodating to everyone and they were helpful with people needing a little more assistance. Cost: Very reasonable for a more traditional pub, you get what you pay for which is lovely. I will add don’t expect your generic chain prices but it is worth it. If you want super cheap and basic you’re better off heading to a Greene King pub etc. Who: I think this pub would be great for a couple having a nice dinner, families due to all the space, group of friends, and also good for an after work pint.

Visiting for a family bereavement, luckily, we had booked a table early. The staff made us very welcome from the beginning, out table was still in use so a few more minutes wait but we were happy having a drink. When we were called the table had been cleaned and ready for us, six meals and every one of them hit the mark, I had the skewered lamb, very rarely do I finish a whole meal by this time I managed it, would happily go back there.

Visited for dinner yesterday evening and was welcomed by delightful staff! A warm and inviting environment during this pandemic made us all feel very at ease. The rules related to COVID-19 were easy to follow. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I have visited again already today and will make plans for a third + visits!

I visited for the first time Saturday the 8th for lunch with friends. The food was exceptional, and the service consistently good. Rules relating to COVID were clear and easy to understand.I’m now back on the Sunday for drinks and food, I live 10 miles yet have chosen to make the journey to come back! The chef, and all staff should be very proud, I look forward to returning soon!

Booked a table her for tonight and asked if we could sit in the garden when I booked I was told they dont usually serve food at the back of the pub but if we didnt mind bringing back our own plates it would be ok. Went there tonight to be told they dont serve food in the garden !!Need to agree to what they do and what they dont !

Ordered a Father’s Day Sunday lunch take away.This was for 2 people, really lovely food, large mixed meat selection,with plenty of accompaniment to go with it, well cooked and remained hot, plus there was plenty of food for the pair of us.Well Done, will definitely be ordering again.

This was my first takeaway although I am used to going to The Windrush where Mia is always very friendly. I had turkey and lovely crackling. There was plenty , cauliflower cheese, broccoli and carrots. Roast potatoes,stuffing and sausage in blanket.My daughter had a vegan tart and vegetables which she enjoyed and said she would have it again. I thought I may have had to heat it up in the microwave but was surprised how hot it still was.There was no contact. They scanned the card through the window and delivered the food through the front door . Once they had closed the door you could pick up the bag. How well they have worked this out so that everyone stays safe.Very well done Mia.

A great quality sunday roast with all the trimmings available as takeaway. We had roast lamb and beef. Great service - they were able to fit us in at the last minute and food was ready for collection within 15 minutes. Really friendly and reasonably priced, will definitely come again!

We love going there for our Sunday carvery- lovely atmosphere, fanatastic food and friendly staff. The no-contact takeaway option (due to Covid-19 restrictions) is brilliant- we've really enjoyed taking our roasts home. We popped in for coffees on Sunday afternoon. They were busy in the pub, restaurant and special events area, but we had our orders taken promptly. The coffees took longer to arrive, but were very nice - latte and capuccino. The pub is quite noisy, and the background music is a bit intrusive.

Visited today for a family birthday. Enjoyed the Sunday carvery ....staff were friendly and efficient. But no one told us we had to get tokens for the carvery sat down for ages..., had to go and enquire and queue at bar again ! This could be improved on I’m sure.

Went with my sister in law for 2 steaks and a bottle of wine her steak was slightly underdone the waitress took it away and gave her a complete fresh meal the food was delicious there service impeccable would highly recommend all the staff where friendly and welcoming and one of the best dining experience We have had in a long time

We ate here at lunchtime today and we got a very warm welcome from the lady behind the bar who took us to a table and promptly returned with menus and told us of the specials menu and took our drinks order and the said she would give us 10 minutes to decide, we then ordered our food which arrived within 15 minutes all piping hot, and of generous portions and well presented,

Arrived unannounced begging for some Christmas Day turkey,,, staff managed to sort the family with Turkey for Christmas Day & it was beautiful. Upon arrival there was a very warm feeling of welcome with great surroundings & rustic decor. Staff were all very helpful & generally nice to talk to. Will be going back over Christmas & into the new year, would highly recommend to anyone.

Our party of 10 came to the Windrush for a Christmas Party night on Saturday and a great time was had by all. The food was lovely, most of us had the carvery which was plentiful and tasty. Particularly liked the yummy Stilton mushroom starter. Mia and her team were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Great choice of gins. Enjoyed the disco, although the DJ had some unusual song choices to say the least but he did play most of our requests. Thanks for a fab night!

Popped in on the off chance with visiting family. Chosen because it was dog friendly, but we will definitely be coming again.

Just finished eating at the Windrush Inn, we are a family of 4 with 2 children and the pub was very welcoming. The food was delicious and the service was amazing, we’ll definitely be coming back.

The pub agreed to let us have exclusive use of the dining room for a social gathering which also incorporated a presentation by a guest Speaker. We were able to configure the furniture to suit our requirements which worked out perfectly. 50 attended making a very successful evening. A buffet was provided for a very reasonable price and was absolutely delicious. The staff were polite and extremely helpful. A better selection of beers would have been nice. Lager selection was however good. I’d like to thank Mia and her team for making the evening a great success. Hope to use this venue again soon.

Visited here on Friday night with half price wine offer. The staff managed to fit us in at last minute on busy night. Staff were very attentive and considerate.

Came for a meal here last Sunday. Many positives and overall this is a fab place. To be brilliant minor adjustmenents need making.

We had my uncles 50th Birthday meal here. The staff were friendly and welcoming and very attentive. The food all came out at the same time, we had preordered. We weren't rushed and was made to feel very welcome. The food was lovely and great portion size too. Definitely be coming back.

Very busy when we arrived, booked table for 3pm. We bought a drink and waited for the people at our table to leave. We had to wait nearly half an hour to wait and the waitress told us she had, had a word and hopefully they would leave soon. Finally we sat down, good food. Service was good until the pub started to thin out and from there the service went downhill. We had to go to the bar to ask for someone to come and take our dessert order. While waiting i saw the chef helping himself to food by dipping a sausage into one of the dishes of sauce at the front of the carvery. I done a course in food hygiene and that wasn't acceptable and very unprofessional. Will not be returning.

Booked for our Mum's 90th, but had to cancel as she broke her hip. Moved booking for another family birthday for lunch with 23 of us and it was brilliant.

We arrived at midday 23 of us and were met by lovely staff who sorted out a bar tab and sat us at a table all together including three 3 year-olds. with a lovely view of the Windrush valley. The food was a traditional carvery Sunday roast. The quality was top notch three different meats with all the trimmings and sauces. Plenty of vegetables to choose from and not over cooked. one particular member of staff (Mia) made a big effort to look after all our needs. She delivered fizz for the toast served up the cake we provided when requested and made us feel welcome and pampered. there is ample parking at the front of the pub and a large child friendly garden behind it. A great afternoon to celebrate my sons birthday.

What an awful experience we had as a family today at the Windrush Inn.

We've been here a few times for the carvery and I can't fault them. This tine, however, a simple mixed grill known as the "Butcher's Block"....wow! Cooked to perfection and possibly the tastiest meal I've eaten at a pub ever.

Called in for Sunday Lunch it was extremely busy but they found somewhere for me to sit to have their lovely Carvery would highly recommend

What a lovely experience at lunchtime today. We were greeted with a pleasant welcome with very attentive staff. My partner was undecided on his drink and was given samples so he could decide. Lunch was warm, tasty, with a good choice of meats & vegetables. A pleasant view over the countryside as we had a table window. We were not rushed and felt relaxed in the pleasant atmosphere. Would highly recommend and we will be back for sure.

Went for a meal with 16 others to celebrate my husband's 70th. Everyone enjoyed it. Food was lovely and served hot. The waiter was so nice as we're all the staff. Not rushed . Recommend

My daughter and I rocked up without a reservation, having spent the last two days painting - looking exactly as you might expect as a result.

We needed somewhere for a quick lunch on a very busy day. Called in to The Windrush we were served promptly with a smile. We all had a sandwich which came with salad and fries. Good choice of fillings. Really reasonable prices too.

We discovered this place while looking for somewhere to eat on our way home from Oxford. We were desperately hungry, and several places we had passed were closed or terribly busy. The barman at the Windrush told us they stopped serving food at five, but the carvery was still open, and it was great - just what we needed. Lovely views at the back of the dining area. Would definitely visit again.

Lovely setting, the Sunday Carvery is very tasty with a choice of Beef Pork and Turkey and seasonal vegetables staff are helpful and friendly large car park

After a few months being messed around by various West Oxfordshire pubs who seemed not to be interested in taking on an event for around 50 (my best guess when organizing) hungry and thirsty cyclists, This was until I tried the Windrush. Turned out to be a great decision as Mia, Jeremy and the rest of the staff could not have put on a better day. For a very reasonable price, they catered for over 80 club members, family and friends. The food was great quality, generous in portions and varied enough for most tastes.

Had my wedding reception here at the weekens and it was absolutely fantastic. Mia was just amazing and so helpful, the place looked amazing when we got there! All the staff were helpful actually and really went above and beyond to make our day extra special. A big thank you to the bloke working behind the bar (I didn't catch his name) he was extremely helpful and even portioned out our wedding cake for us. Over all I could not fault it and it really did make our day perfect.

Myself and my friend decided to stop off to eat at the Windrush after a day out shopping, when we entered the bar it was very quiet apart from a what looked like a small wedding party of people to the rear of the bar.

I visited the Windrush Inn with the family for an evening meal. The staff were wonderful, very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant area is great with lovely countryside views. The food was excellent quality, good portions and arrived in good time too. I'll definitely be going back again.

I rang the pub on sunday with one hours notice for sunday lunch for four adults and three kids. I told them I cant eat gluten or certain meats.

Visited for a Sunday carvery and had a wonderful meal. The food was excellent and the service was first class. The staff were all very young but were so good it was pleasure being served by them. We will definitely be going back again.

We had been to 3 pubs after 3pm to get food as we had been to a funeral. We were refused so the Windrush was recommended. We got there and even though it was after 3 the manager said she would get the Chef to cook for us.

Fantastic meal, the carvery was lovely, staff friendly and efficient. Perfect restaurant if you have young children. They even now have a fenced off area for children with a bouncy castle! Will definitely be visiting again soon!

Visited with dogs on a sunny Sunday lunch after walk , only had drinks but enjoyed the ambiance and the fact that there is an area for children to play.

If you would like a carvery lunch on a Sunday, suggest you arrive before 1.00! we arrived after 1.00 and it was so busy they ran out of roast potatoes so we had to wait for a new batch to be brought out! They were amazingly tasty though, so worth the wait! 3 choices of roast meats and four choices too of vegetables!

Came here with 7 friends for a few drinks and not one of us particularly enjoyed our experience at the Windrush. Aside from v expensive drinks, the bar service was slow, awkward and plenty of mistakes were made.

The staff were lovely. The food on the Sunday carvery was awful. Sorry to post a negative review but it was terrible. Can’t be bothered to say much else about it.

My visit to the Windrush was with a few friends. Upon entering bar area, a male staff member looked at myself and my friend, smiled and said "it's ok guys, we do skinny fries." First bad point. Once we had sat down to eat and made our choices, one of the party asked for sweet potatoes fries instead of garlic bread with her chosen meal, the same man looked at her and said "maybe a salad is better for you." The woman he said this to is pregnant! Once our orders were taken, we waited over 30 minutes for our meals, we were the only people eating at that time. 2 of us had their Butchers Block. I ordered mine medium rare. When it came out, my steak was missing and the sausage, lamb chop, chicken and mushroom were stone cold. A friend also had the same problem. 2 meals came out wrong and I also had to remind them about my onion rings.

First visit for lunch. Nice pub, decor etc and nice views of fields. Nice menu for lunch, reasonably priced, children’s menu too. Food was cooked well and tasted nice. Good pub grub. Quick friendly service.

We were a party of 16 + 3 children. All had the carvery. Excellent value as usual. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. No problem with bringing in two birthday cakes. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Great play area for children. Thank you all.

We booked on the off chance knowing nothing about the pub and were thrilled to find toys and space for our children to roam and play. Rather than the group meal out being a stressful race to finish and pay before the kids ruin everyone’s day, we stayed for a few hours enjoying our afternoon whilst the kids were well entertained. The food was lovely too, we will definitely return. Can’t wait for the weather to improve so we can enjoy the garden

This is our first meal out to the Windrush pub in quite a while. The atmosphere, decor & food is a vast improvement to how it was! The food was lovely and the staff welcoming & friendly. We will be returning soon!

Called over to Witney yesterday (now a monthly event). The staff were not as friendly , the service seemed stressed and the atmosphere totally different . Hope my next visit is back to what I have come to enjoy at the Windrush or we will look for a new haunt !

We booked a private family buffet for 25 guests. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was spot on and good value. Mia was on hand to make sure everything was ok. Recommended.

Been visiting regularly over the last few months and have met some lovely members of staff, but tonight was a completely different story and I am very confused as to how you can employ someone who seems completely different to the warm, welcoming, friendly female members of staff I have met.

Since changing hands this place is so much more family focused... Great food, brilliant wine and most importantly amazing hosts.

Couldn’t have asked for better. A party of 9 (well 10 if you include a 3 month old who slept his way through and from the welcome when we arrived to the time we left nothing was too much trouble.
