The Old Mill in Mid Sussex

On a recent trip to The Old Mill, the food and service was amazing. BUT, they put a service charge on the bill. Which is unacceptable. You give a tip if you are happy with the meal, you shouldnt be expected to give a tip . Dont think i will be going back there in a hurry.

Made a little trip to this pub as it was such good reviews and well thank goodness !! Fantastic choice of food ! Lovely history, garden and lots going on. Arrived at the bar met by a girl called Sophie who was so happy and full of energy, always nice to be served with a smile and we felt so welcomed. Had steak and we loved it ! Going back this Friday night !

I had a chicken flat bread at the lunch time and it was really nice, I wondered the name of the chef and I've been told it's a Paul. So I just want to say thank you for serving me and making my time goes

I had really good time here, didn’t have to wait long time until we got our drinks and foods, everyone was polite and helpful. Our Fish and chips was delicious I asked for the name of the chef and waiter said it was Paul, so big thank you to Paul! As we really enjoyed the meal

Excellent lunch! We were a group of 12 walkers. Orders were taken at the table and food arrived promptly. EVERYONE was happy with their meal, without exception. The chicken fajitas were exceptionally good!

Lovely new menu. We tried the new starters, goats cheese creme brulee and beef brisket croquets as reccomended by the staff which were delicious.

Once again The Old Mill has delivered! Having had a few days away thought we’d treat ourselves to a Sunday Roast at the Old Mill. We hadn’t booked so (knowing how popular the Sunday Roasts are) knew we were taking a chance getting a table. Arriving at 5pm we must have missed the rush as we were warmly welcomed by Megan and shown to a table. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. Two of us had Chicken Roasts which were amazing, and the roast pork was great too. Unfortunately the cauliflower cheese had sold out so we had pork crackling, pigs in blankets and stuffing as extras. We even found room for deserts which were top notch! A top meal delivered by a top team!

We booked this for Valentines lunch as somewhere new to try. The outdoor area with the running water is beautiful and we will definitely would like to come back when it's warmer to sit outside. We had a lovely warm welcome and were very impressed by the way it looked inside. The menu was great. One of the reasons we picked this pub was because my partner is fussy and normally struggles to find something on the menu. This was a typical English pub menu without trying to be fancy. The portion sizes and prices were great. The service was definitely the best we have had anywhere lately. Very attentive. 10% service charge was added to the bill but we decided it was worth more than that so gave more. We were given a Valentines card game to play and entered into a raffle too which was a sweet touch We will be coming back to try their Sunday roast soon 😊

It was my friends birthday and we decided to go to the Old Mill. When we arrived we were surprised to see how empty the place was, the lighting and decor is drab with cheap signage everywhere. The food was extremely underwhelming and probably straight from the freezer. The starters were ok. I had pork belly which was fatty, with cabbage and hard roasted new potatoes, weirdly served on a very small plate. My friend had a chicken burger which she said was dry as were the fries. She also had an ice cream which was fine. The young servers were very pleasant. We wanted to like our experience but we will not be going back. With a few drinks our bill was £100 (they put the service charge on the bill -unusual for a pub)

Our first time for Sunday lunch. There were 9 of us. Could not ask for more. The food was fantastic but the service was beyond. It’s been a long time since we have been so impressed on all fronts. Well done Dunnings, we will definitely be back soon.

I cannot recommend The Old Mill enough. Had a great night at their 'last Tuesday of the month open mic night'. Booked a table which was a great location to watch the acts. The performers were really talented and the staff very attentive (although we only had drinks and a few snacks.) Online booking email worked really well and was quickly responded too. A great night and looking forward to end of February one already.

The food choice is excellent, the portion sizes are better than the norm and the quality of the food was perfect especially the home made onion rings. The prices were below that of other restaurants and pubs in the area. We didn’t book but were made welcome with plenty of space between the tables. A perfect gem and amazingly friendly staff. I could leave it at that but I have to say that after the meal I thought I would read some reviews, there is a very, very small minority who gave two or less stars. This mainly based on the fact that service charge was added. That is disgusting to down score for this, if you don’t like the service then don’t pay but don’t criticise later. I do not work in the industry but I do know how badly the industry has suffered firstly with Covid and more recently the hike in energy costs and inflation. 10% added on to thank the staff for being attentive and being there to serve you is the minimum we should pay. Most people wouldn’t think twice if every item on the menu was £1 more yet that would be more than the 10 % service charge. Service charge is a pittance but means so much to the staff. Don’t knock it, pay it to thank them. Think what your poor score does to these people and the managers. I was disappointed that I could not increase the service charge. Well done to the management and the staff, you made mine and the family’s meal perfect. Happy New Year and see you soon.

This pub is great. We had a lovely festive meal. Plenty of variety on the menu. The sticky toffee pudding was massive. I did have some trouble finishing it, especially after a great starter and even better turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Service was fantastic. Our sever Toulah was very kind and made sure we were well looked after.

We met friend here for a Christmas get together on a recent Sunday lunchtime. The menu choices were excellent, and we all opted for Sunday roast which consisted of two beef and two lamb meals. The food was excellent, with there being plenty of meat on the plate as well as a good variety of vegetables, all of which was very tasty, well presented and served hot. Three of us managed a desert which were also lovely. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. With a few drinks the bill was not excessive and we will certainly return when in the area.

We have just had our company Xmas party at the Old Mill , it looks so festive and pretty in the pub . We were immediately greeted and shown to our table and offered a drink . The Xmas meal was really enjoyable and lovely and hot . We were looked after all evening and had a great time , thank you to Lisa and Katie and all the staff and chefs

What a gem. Been a lucky local here for some time , but I'm leaving this review without any bias. Having worked in Hospitality for years I understand the graft and levels of professionalism it takes to deliver what they do down there. The unsung heros behind the scenes, head chef Ryan, Paul the grafter all the way to the KP. Next time you eat out, and enjoy your experience try and remember to tip the kitchen team. Ask for the chefs name and leave a review. They're awesome from front of house to back. Katie in charge of the team front of house Megan, grace, sophie, the beer whisperer Steve, Lauren and carol. Great family friendly, accommodating, leave with a full belly kinda place.

We cannot thank Katie, Lisa and the team enough. We had our Christmas Lunch for the Crawley and East Grinstead branch of Parkinson's UK today. The food was amazing, the service was superb, the team were so friendly and approachable and sympathetic to our members needs. For some of our members this is the highlight of the year and one of our biggest get togethers with almost 60 people attending. I cannot recommend The Old Dunnings Mill highly enough from the bar staff, to the waiting staff, and the team in the kitchen. Thank you all so much for making our event so special. Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. The staff here are particularly friendly and accommodating, especially Steve the barman who gave us a warm welcome. As a vegan I really appreciate the range of options that don't feel like menu afterthoughts.

Wow. I had Bangers and Mash for my Dinner. I was really looking forward to this , and I had heard very good things about the Food here. Absolutely marvellous family meal, went for dinner with the family, had an excellent chicken kebab, lovely homely pub with good food. Was just what I was expecting, but somehow exceeded expectations, the bar staff- Sophie & Steve, were so welcoming and helpful, accommodating our every need Well done Dunnings!!!

Very friendly welcome especially as we had 2 young children & two dogs with us. Crayons & pictures to colour in, & wooden bricks were provided to keep the little ones entertained!! Excellent food. Thoroughly recommend for a family oriented meal out.

Emailed only two hours before for a booking for my parents, my two children and my two dogs and easily accommodated - food was delicious and served in a timely manner, good drink choice and staff were absolutely fantastic - so friendly and welcoming - couldn’t have asked for more!

Stopped for Sunday lunch after a bike ride. Tasty food & great service to go with it. I went for the pork - especially good with a cauliflower cheese add on. And always nice as well to have a pint of Old in the winter months. A great friendly welcome from new addition to the team Steve, serving at the bar, checking that all was Ok. A great stop.

Always good service and food at Dunnings,Steve the new barman was very welcoming and attentive even though he was very busy with a large wake that was taking place in the restaurant. We look forward to coming back soon.

Nice Harveys beer served up by a very helpful & cheerful bar person (Steve). A good roast pork dinner with excellent vegetables and lovely roast potatoes. Perhaps a little stingy with the meat. And watch out for the automatic 10% service charge. Not undeserved, but be aware!

Stopped off during our bike ride and found the pub to have a real Friday buzz about it. The heated/covered seating area was great for this time of the year. The service we received was superb with Steve behind the bar being particularly helpful and friendly! Will visit again soon.

I came to this pub unplanned. I had an amazing night and the food was great. Highly recommend!! What really made the night for me though was the staff. Lunch with my family; in three weeks things have changed but not for the better. The menu was new but also the quality of the food was much lower and disappointing as I love bringing my family here.
