The staff were well presented, unfortunately that’s where the positives end. No steak and no lamb. They had the salmon but nothing to go with it. They had no vegetables! The menu is quite limited to start without them running out of most things. The service was slow and the waitress kept getting things wrong. We will not be returning, it was quite expensive for what it is and it wasn’t very nice. It’s not hard to get the basics wrong, but they got it very wrong. Simply shocking.

When I first I read the reviews I was skeptical in coming but because I was in the area, I thought hey, lets give it a try. Now after eating there, I am glad that I did. The bar lady and staff were lovely, food came in good time and the chicken Makhani was delicious. The presentation was also great but unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take a picture beforehand but here is the result..lool. I would highly recommend for anyone in the area.

Absolutely shocking! Very little choice on the menu for starters. Finally ordered and they they get the drinks wrong. Then our meals come out. Both had steaks. Wrong steaks on the plate. We had each other’s. (one with sweet potato, other with normal chips. I had well done, husbands was medium/rare. After swapping as mine was clearly rare, I then saw that the other was medium rare! No well done! But it was inedible! The sheer amount of grizzle on the steak made it unable to eat… sent back and the manger came to speak to me… offered another stake as well as my husband as his was the same… although he couldn’t be sure another stake wouldn’t be like it again as they’ve had a lot of complaints about the stakes! He goes and checks… comes back and says actually they are all that bad, and stake is off the menu! Would I like anything else? We’ll not much choice when stake is off, as is the sweet potato curry and the pepper pasta!! Bit screwed if your a veggie or vegan… like the table next to us… who were offered just small salad for dinner!!! I ordered the curry, that came 30 mins later by which point my husband had finished his food… he decided to eat the steak bits he could plus the chips…. All we was offered to say sorry was a free drink… we don’t even drink alcohol.. so a free coke or water?! After refusing a free water, they eventually offered 1 free pudding! Left the table still hungry!!! Lovely anniversary meal… cheers!!

Lovely food very tasty, well presented, a bit overpriced for the amount you get. Service was slow and it wasn't that busy. not really any atmosphere. Good with allergies as they ask you to complete a card as soon as you sit down. Only used as stayed at hotel was average wouldn't rush back.

Very nice ambiance/decor to the restaurant, although would have prefered to have been seated with more space around us and perhaps slightly quieter location for more romance! The food was very nice, my husband had a starter, but I had the mains of Risotto, which was lovely and creamy and just enough! , he had fish and really enjoyed it. We both had desserts he had a sticky date pudding with cornish cream and ice cream, I had lemon posset which could have done with a piece of shortbread. We had complimentary glass of wine each and ordered soda and lime. This meal was included in our stay away-we had £25 per head to spend and our end bill came to £14 remaining to pay. Very friendly staff, service a little slow and we didn't get offered any breads...but that's fine.

We stayed overnight before a flight and for ease we decided to eat in the hotel as it was a cold rainy day. The restaurant was empty and when we ordered we were told the pork cutlets were unavailable. The soup was good and the fresh bread excellent. We were agreeably surprised by the meal which was hot and freshly prepared. We both enjoyed our mains - salmon and chicken. The ice cream was good and nicely decorated with fruit. Our server, a lovely lady from Eastern Europe, helped to make our meal a very pleasant experience.

Amazing with food intolerances, they brought a card for us to write our intolerances down on so the chef would avoid cross contamination, they bring the card back with your food so you can be sure that your food was handled correctly, which gave us total assurance! the steak was cooked soo perfectly i had it both nights, my partner had the seared duck and fell in love with the recipe, the Citrus cured mackerel starter was also mind blowing!

The food was amazing however the service couldn’t be more opposite! It took 10 minutes each time to get a drink (it wasn’t even busy) and even then the wrong drinks were given to us. All of the staff are miserable and the atmosphere is poor. To top all of that off my partner ordered a ribeye steak and received a sirloin then the waitress tried to pretend that it was in fact a ribeye. I work in a steakhouse so there was no fooling me. It was a great shame because the food was so incredible and the service let’s it down entirely. Will not be returning.

I visited this restaurant for lunch as part of a spa day package. I would not pay to come here or invite someone here for a meal. The restaurant decor is bland and on par with a motorway service station restaurant. The piped music is god damn awful. I had a chicken, avocado and asparagus salad which consisted of a mountain of lettuce and few chopped up bits of asparagus which I had to hunt for ! Four bits of sun dried tomato. A couple of slices of chicken breast and a smear of dressing on the plate. Then a 25 mins wait for a lemon posset. There were only two other people in the restaurant. A place for a 'date night' this ain't. Even the local Chef and Brewer across the road is better than this.

We booked a table for 8 of us the night before our wedding at this hotel and the service was terrible - they were doing a spa offer on group on and as a result of that they had an influx of restaurant bookings and it was obvious that the staff couldn’t cope with numbers. We waited nearly an hour for starters and then when we eventually got our mains my nephew got his after we all finished eating and then gave him his sauce for his dish after he’d eaten it all! Safe to say we complained. We then came back 6 weeks later for my birthday and went in the restaurant for breakfast, we were put in a booth by the entrance and were pretty much ignored, wasn’t asked if we wanted tea or coffee just left us to it. I wanted to ask if I could possibly have poached eggs as there was only scrambled on offer but nobody even came near us for me to ask the question. It is apparent that they have a lot of “Saturday” staff and that’s when the problems arise as it doesn’t seem like they care. Last year the service was faultless but the staff they have now don’t seem interested. I would have given this a lower star review but that didn’t seem fair as the food is outstanding - it’s just a shame that the waiting staff let their brilliant work down.

We stayed at the hotel and had breakfast each day in the restaurant - very good - but we also stayed in for the first night. Far easier to stay put than go wandering around to find somewhere to eat - we were not disappointed! I had steak and my wife had duck - both good choices. We were travelling around the area so we did not eat in for the other nights - but we would have been happy to do so!

Food lacked flavour and wasn’t quite as described on the menu. However, the staff are friendly, helpful and provided good service. Quite a busy week day evening, so the atmosphere was good. As mentioned the staff are friendly and service is swift, however the food is not quite up to standard. Lacking in flavour, not quite as described as in the menu suggests, for example. The chicken cooked in Panko breadcrumbs, this was more of a fried breadcrumb, and not at all crispy. The dish was also described as having vegetables, however a limp, over cooked spring onion is not quite what was expected. The dish lacked seasoning and overall presentation was not what I would expect for the price. The desert, a Creme Brûlée, tasted bland, over sweet and not a trace of real vanilla, only synthetic flavouring. The presentation in a terracotta dish, looked great, however the freeze dried token raspberries & blackberries, with shrivelled up herbs? Wasn’t good, again at the higher price of £6.50, you can certainly find better. Overall not a great experience. I know there are much better restaurants around a 30-40min walk away, along the main road. I would definitely recommend venturing out to a meal in The Bay Tree.

I was going through my honeymoon photos from last June and found one that prompted me to write this review (I should have done this much sooner!). I contacted The Bay Tree in advance as we were staying at the hotel before our flight, and explained that we were a same-sex couple on our honeymoon and was hoping we would be able to get a space in a corner somewhere away from prying eyes so we could enjoy the first night of our honeymoon without getting any awkward looks, etc. We arrived and were escorted into a private room. It was perfect! This room had a table for 2, was candle lit and had gentle music playing. The restaurant was busy but we couldn't hear everything else going on, just our own company. The staff were professional, and nothing was too much to ask. They were there when we needed them, but left us alone otherwise. They were also very friendly. I would recommend this to anyone travelling via. Gatwick. One thing - and the thing that prompted me to write this post. I can't believe it took me 7 months to realise this, but as I was going through my photos today, I realised that the presentation of my scotch egg starter was.... ahem...... very 'creative'! lol - that said, it's probably my favourite scotch egg ever :-)

Living away from home 3-4 nights a week, I get a bit bored with hotel restaurants. This one is better than most. Firstly, you can order either from the a la cart menu, or from the bar menu, which, taken together, give a wide choice of food. It is reasonably priced compared to many I have eaten in lately, and the service is prompt and attentive, without being intrusive. The quality of the food is high and the size of the portions, whilst not massive, are adequate. Good value for money in a pleasant environment. Safe travels, Simon

Waited for 25 minutes for the starters of a pre booked lunch as part of a spa day, asked for mains to be called away as soon the starters arrived but still no mains 20 minutes later. Restaurant freezing cold and dirty, waiter wiped off old food along the edge of the table, but there was dirt on the walls, floor and chairs too. Such a shame because the food was actually very nice once it arrived and the waitresses were sweet. I could have had 30 minutes extra in the spa rather than waiting in a cold restaurant.

We were a party of 10 for Sunday lunch with great expectations. Most of chose from the set menu. Several of us ordered celeriac soup which, when it finally arrived, was just lukewarm. To compound matters nobody had been supplied with any soup spoons so we had to wait for those which meant the soup became even cooler. There were hardly any other diners and there were 2 servers so we shouldn't have had to wait for our cutlery after receiving our food. Bread was then served on one plate, following which butter was delivered to the table but there were no side plates to put the bread rolls on while it was buttered so these had to be held in ones hand while they were buttered and while eating the soup unless one felt willing to chance putting them on the actual table or dumping them in the soup. A bottle of white wine was shared amongst 4 people but the amount in each glass was not equal with the waitress just pouring what was left in the bottle in the last person's glass. It also felt strange to be dressed up and eating lunch in a supposedly nice restaurant surrounded by barefoot diners clad only in towelling dressing gowns. They were obviously using the spa. The main course of roast cod was ok, but those who had roast beef found it tough and one person found theirs inedible because of this. The melting chocolate brownie was OK but the title was a puzzle because the only melting thing about it was the ice cream that was served with it. Overall quite a disappointing experience and not up to the standard that we had expected. We normally eat at the Coach House in Godstone which unfortunately has now closed and had hoped this might be our new venue from now on, but unless things improve this is probably unlikely.

Met family staying here and were really looking forward to it. Sadly let down. So we met family here staying over from the US for their last night. Expected usual Crown Plaza standards and were really let down. I’m as fair as possible with reviews as I do hundreds. On arrival the restaurant was empty so service would have been 100%. As it was a cold evening we asked if the windows around and above us could be closed as the restaurant was quite cold. We ordered only for the waitress to return ten minutes later to be told their was no Sirloin steak available after we had ordered it. It would help if staff actually knew what was available at the beginning of the evening. Basic error. The music was very loud and drowned out all conversation. We had to ask for it to be be lowered and at this point I felt like we were awkward customers but this was basic stuff. Anyway my wife is on a diet and ordered steak and salad, and received steak and chips! And so it just went on. Unfortunately one of our worst recent meals. If you read my next two reviews of other places you’ll see see they get 5. Frankly this place got an over generous 3. Management really need to get a grip. If I was a manager here I’d be embarrassed at providing this level of customer care. And yes, I’m a Manager.

This visit was for a family birthday and having been before there were high expectations however this time was a poor let down. The restaurant was empty and we assumed this was because we were early but it did not change yet most places on a weekend are full. Staff were very nice when they could be found but you only saw them when they either delivered or took something from the table. The food was disappointing. I had tomato soup which was only tepid. Several of us had variations of the roast however the carrots were cooked in something which made them taste curried which spread to the other food on the plate (not what you want with a traditional english roast) and the other veg was an attempt at al dante but very hard in places and inedible. The deserts however were beautiful. On returning home I did not feel great and later on was violently sick yet the only thing I had eaten was at the restaurant. I then felt much better so was the food hiding a secret or was it just too rich in strange flavours for a roast dinner ! Either way due to poor service and food not being at its best we will not be going back again.

Sorry Bay Tree, worst buffet breakfast ever, well I will have to return to sample the buffet first. Let me explain........We arrived for breakfast at 8.15 am , not exactly late in the morning. After being shown to a table and having our hot beverage order taken , I made my way to the hot buffet.I returned to the table with a solitary piece of toast, missing from the buffet, hash browns , black pudding , bacon and eggs ....umm not a great start, and things didn't improve. After a Wait of 15 minutes we reminded our server that we still hadn't been served our hot beverages , one tea and one coffee. Still no appearance of any eggs, bacon or black pudding. Still nearly 20 minutes after ordering the tea/coffee as if by magic 2 pots of tea and 2 coffee's appear once again I braved the hot buffet run a full 22 minutes after my first attempt.....still no bacon, and this was joined on the missing in action list by the black pudding. But in true British spirit I carried on with my half a full English breakfast. Just as I finished , the long lost missing bacon finally made it's entrance.Didn't attempt the cold continental buffet , but had a quick look and our jolly European cousins wouldn't have been much happier than me, a very poor showing from the cold meat's and cheese's.And into the mix , no bread at the fresh bread area, only a lonely chopping board and bread knife , no bowls at the cereal station and finally...........No refil of my coffee !Still the manager did gracefully only charge for one breakfast.... A semi happy ending ?

Not wanting to be bothered to go out of the hotel during an overnight stay we ate here. We found the "Fine Dining - Anise Restaurant" limited in the menu so chose this instead. The staff were very friendly and service acceptable (as they automatically add on a service charge). I had the smoked haddock with ham and poached egg with "wilted spinach" and potatoes. Wife had the slow roast belly pork with mash which pulled apart nicely but the crackling was too rubbery to be edible. Just one creme brulee followed which was very good with a pistachio flavour. No drinks and came to £42 inc the service charge - typical sort of prices for a hotel restaurant.

I'm greedy and fairly tolerant of not-very-good food, but this was so bad I couldn't eat and complained about a dish for the first time in my(long!) life. Spicy falafels with taboullah and garlic yoghurt were under seasoned lumps of chickpea paste, tasting overwhelmingly of citric acid. Dust dry, and the drizzle of yoghurt did nothing to combat this. It needed a generous dollop. The taboullah was not a taboullah- pearl barley over cooked to a chewy slime had no seasoning, except a thin scattering of tomato and cucumber dice. My mother was equally disappointed with her burger- cold, untoasted bun, dry, and served with soggy, floppy chips that looked like they'd been reheated in a microwave. I was offered any dish of my choice as a replacement, and went for the "safe" option of a green salad. It was fine- fresh rocket, shaved cucumber and a generous quantity of green olives complete with stones, but no dressing. A frangipani tart with pear was poor but at least edible, but the creme fresh sorbet was good. Staff were charming and helpful - I'd go back to the hotel again to sleep, but eat elsewhere.

Went here to meet up with my family, as life in different directions. There was only 6 off us, it all started well with the starters, Garlic bread was good, we all ordered our main meals, 2 had roast beef, very good, I had pork belly and again very good, 1 had shepherds pie, very good, the other 2 had Brie & Cranberry wrap. (fresh filo pastry) That when it went downhill. Waiter turned up with all our meals, except 1 of the wraps. He had totally forgot to put it on his memo pad. So we all had our main course except for my sister who's birthday we were there to celebrate, waiter apologised, and got it done asap. But by the time it was sorted we had all finished our meals, as at first it was only going to be about 6 minutes to sort out, so we decided not to sent our meals back which the waiter asked if we wanted to do, In hide sight we should have done. Once my sister got her meal, she found that it was not cooked properly in the centre. The waiter was very apologetic about everything and we asked to have the meal deducted from bill. Which he did. This spoilt a nice afternoon meal with the family. The deserts were very nice , but pistachio & cranberry crème burlee was lovely but very shallow and not much of it.

Little did we know this meant having our table for 8 people in the "walkway" of the restaurant and not on the normal"carpeted area" where the other tables are.WORSE STILL we were next to a 30th birthday party of about 34 people who's language was not only extremely loud but very offensive!! NO attempt was made by the management to speak to this party. When we brought this to the staff's attention when paying our very large bill we were told there was nothing they could do! Then after, when we were seated in the bar area, a member of staff walked the gentleman who's birthday it was to us to apologise! we almost felt sorry for him as THE MANAGEMENT SHOULD HAVE DEALT WITH THIS SITUATION CORRECTLY IN THE FIRST PLACE! ***POOR MANAGEMENT AND POOR ORGANISATION *** We won't be returning......

You don't generally expect food above average in most hotels because good chefs seem to prefer working in free-standing identifiable restaurants where they can make their name. This place is actually one of two restaurants within the Felbridge Hotel, the other being the Anise. They seem, from my conversation with the staff to share the same cookery team. Menus are a little more modest, and less pretentious, at the Bay Tree but the food was cracking. Scallops appeared on the menus of both restaurants and the ones I ordered (sautéed with thin slices of black pudding) really couldn't have been better for the £12 I paid than for the £20 they would have cost in the Anise next door.A mushroom risotto which followed was perfectly cooked and full of flavour; and a good risotto isn't easy to produce. Decent wine selection. Decent, not over-priced dine list too. The waiting team was cheerful and efficient although drinks took a bit of time to come from the bar. Overall, an unexpectedly good meal.

A first for me....sitting at our table half way through lunch I was amazed to see three people walk into the restaurant in dressing gowns and escorted by a member of staff to the table directly opposite us. Having pointed this out to our server we were told that the people from the spar were allowed to dine in the restaurant. As far as the food goes it's not bad with the set three course meal with drinks at under £35.00. All-round good fast attentive service and reasonable food.....but don't have a business lunch here!

I've eaten here a couple of times and found it well above the average for this type of on-the-way-to-the-airport hotel, with some interesting and well executed dishes. But it all went a bit flat when it came to my dessert this time, a Gooseberry Baked Alaska. What's not to like, I thought? I was expecting a delicious contrast between crisp crunchy meringue straight from the oven, and cold but ready-to-melt icecream inside. Well, the whole thing was undercooked, so that the spongy base (previously frozen?) was leaden and chilly, and the meringue topping was, quite frankly, slimy. I thought maybe it had never even been in the oven, they just blowtorched the meringue -- which is fine if that's what you want to do, only then don't call it "baked." Or maybe they just underestimated the time/temperature in the oven. Anyway, I couldn't eat it, I ate a few spoons of the (quite good) gooseberry icecream, but that was all. And I can eat most things! It's a pity when an otherwise good restaurant with some nice ideas is let down by poor execution. Maybe I was just unlucky.

Review in respect of a big wedding anniversary family dinner, six adults and two children under 10.This was the first time i had been back to the Felbridge Hotel since 1979! Since when it burned down and was rebuilt. Now a modern hotel. Popular for wedding receptions. We chose the Bay Tree Brasserie instead of the other restaurant on site as this has a children's menu. prices seen reasonable.Booking was straightforward.Parking was easy, the car park is enclosed and requires a code from reception to exit. The menu was varied, with a la carte or a set menu.Wine reasonable starting prices. All the adults went a la carte, with a wide spread of choice, and every course was fine.A nice touch was a "doggy bag" for the grandkids' fish fingers! A special mention for the staff particularly Jacob, very personable, made this a memorable occasion. The menu states that the 10% "discretionary" service added to the bill all goes to the staff. I trust that it does.Overall highly recommended.

Long wait for just one course and restaurant had very few customers. Chicken was obviously undercooked but was told "once a vein"! If you have around two hours to waste for a third rate meal then make a booking.

The Bay Tree is part of The Felbridge Hotel and Spa. We popped in here for Sunday lunch - the service was good but the food was distinctly average but, to be fair, it was pretty cheap. The fact the food was so average and cheap jarred a little with the hotel / spa atmosphere. The roast was OK. Nothing to write home about but it was not poor. My only comment was everything was very bland indeed. Especially the apple sauce which barely tasted of apples at all - I have no idea how apple sauce cannot tast of apples.. it was clearly made from apples but was tasteless. The Yorkshire puddings were rather good but everything else just tasted the same... the pork, the parsnip, the potato, the apple sauce... all quite bland and non descript... Starters were quite good an enjoyed by all. Service was attentive but took us a while to get the bill in a quiet restaurant.Overall, good service, OK food, OK atmosphere and good value. I would not object to coming again but I would not go out of my way to revisit.

I went to eat at the Baytree restaurant with my husband and we were delighted that they offered my husband a gluten free meal. It is normally very hard to find a restaurant that serves a gluten free but delicious meal. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The service was very good and the food was fantastic. I would highly recommend the Bay tree.

I can't say this restaurant is full of ambience, in fact it's rather austere with no outside view and some pretty basic modern art on the walls which probably cost a lot but a chimp could have produced.Being my first try at what I call "posh food" it was very tasty, well presented and the service was good. What do I mean by "posh food"? You've seen it on TV enough times; a very large plate with a neat little pile of edible matter neatly stacked in the middle, then decorated with the customary dribbles and flicks of some elegantly named sauce. All 3 courses were like this and left me feeling rather peckish on arriving home. So, the food looked and tasted great but just not enough of it.Not the place for a romantic meal.

I came here with my boyfriend for dinner last night, and I have to say it was absolutely delicious. Great value for money.I had the white onion soup for starter, the duck for main, and the danish bread and butter pudding for dessert. The only complaint I have is that the dauphinoise potatoes were quite dry and didn't have a lot of flavour, and likewise the duck didn't have a lot of flavour (though it was perfectly cooked). My boyfriend had the goats cheese to start, the pigs belly as main, and the pecan pie for dessert, all of which he said were delicious. It was quite pricey (our meal came to £80 including a bottle of wine) but it was worth every penny.

The meals and starters were amazing and huge helpings of food. The breakfast was of a very high standard apart from the soggy hash browns that just fell to pieces as you tried to lift them to your plate. The service was excellent and very friendly and well trained staff.

The first bite is with the eyes, and you really get a mouthful here, with beautifully presented food as standard. The tastes of even the most basic ingrediants show that this hotel invests in quality for all. The staff are really friendly and we found ourselves chatting to other guests as if we had known them for ages. Everything was so relaxed, I haven't enjoyed the eating experience so much for years.

Yes the service was slow but the staff were friendly (if not a bit too timid) and the food was great. I wouldn't usually forgive slow service but maybe they were a little understaffed with no 'big' personality acting as maitre d' to boss the staff. This has the potential to be fantastic instead of v good. By the way. Killer dessert. Panna cotta with a feozen peanut ice cream and biscuit side. Yum.

I had been staying in the hotel and decided to have a meal in the restaurant. This doubles up as the breakfast place, so I can't comment on the venue- it is ok. The service was good, although a little bit slow, but didn't notice it too much. But they were well mannered, and treated us very well.Food was very nice- well cooked, and good portions. I was pretty full after starters and mains, and so couldn't get desserts. Meal for 2 came to around £75 including drinks and service charge, which was fine.Overall, good experience.

We had a 3 course meal as part of the hotel stay deal. We could choose from a 3 course set menu which had a nice variety. The food was pretty good but pricy if you weren't on the set menu. No problems with eating there again but I wouldn't go out of my way for a visit if I wasn't at the hotel.

we had our meal there on 2nd July and the food was lovely, we had the choice of set meal or menu we choose a mixture of both. I had the hens poached egg and muffin with onion cutney - the onion cutney was to die for. My partner had the mushrooms which he enjoyed. I had the main of the seafood platter which had salmon, prawns and chips - the salmon was done to a brilliant standard I have never tested any better. My partner had the steak - he said it was a little fatty but the favour was lovely. The deserts was lovely too. I would recommend this restaurant fully.

Stayed overnight on a 'deal' where we could either choose from a set menu or have a £25 allowance off the main menu. My husband had a steak which was very nicely cooked, half a tomatoe, half a mushroom and a few chips We were over two hours having dinner, service was appaling, there seemed to be lots of staff but we even had to wait 2o mins for the desert menu. When we complained, us and other diners were told that they were very busy as there was a wedding on, no excuse, the hotel should allow for that or at least tell us that there will be a delay. Would not eat there again.

We stayed in the hotel for 1 night, used the airport parking and ate in the Bay Tree. Full review on the hotel page. The set menu (£25pp) had a very good selection and I went for the chicken parfait, liver for main and chocolate tart for dessert. Service, value and food all very good.

We have known and stayed at Ockenden Manor since 1975. Staff are superb. The catering, however, has now moved into the pretentious category with a menu that is specialised, limited in range and depth and wine list which is a tad removed from normality. Ockenden Manor is lovely but no longer a reasonable restaurant experience.

We met at the pub for a girls xmas dinner. The staff were really accomodating as we had people coming and going at different times. They were also super dog friendly, including dog biscuits and water bowls brought to the table. The human food was good. Hopefully the menu will change with the seasons. 🤞
