My partner and I visited this pub a few weekends ago, excited by the promise of a hearty roast dinner in a pub with new management. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. While the ambiance of the pub was pleasant and friendly, the roast dinner itself left much to be desired. Priced at £18, I expected a meal that would justify the cost, but sadly, it did not. This is coming from someone that's lived in London for the past few years and is used to paying this type of price. The vegetables served alongside the roast were really not great, both in appearance and taste. It seemed as though they had been microwaved with no seasoning and bland. The potatoes, while flavorful, were disappointingly dry and chewy, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the meal. I opted for the chicken, which thankfully was one of the better parts of the roast. It was cooked and seasoned well. In summary, the pub offers a cosy atmosphere, and we really enjoyed the range of board games, however the quality of the roast dinner did not meet our expectations. For the price charged, we definitely would have expected more.

Great "old world" pub, lovely well trained staff, it has recently changed hands and the new owners have brought the pub back to it's pre-covid glory. The beer and wine line-up has had a refresh to includes Harveys, Guiness and Beavertown Neck Oil on draught, there are also some great new world wines to choose from. Board games available in the snug area (to the left of the bar)!

In the gentle embrace of new stewardship, I believe it's time for Google to turn a fresh page and renew the statistics. It's unfathomable to imagine a world where this establishment garners anything less than a celestial five-star acclaim. The new guardians of this tavern have woven a tapestry of warmth and jubilation, enveloping the space in a cocoon of conviviality. The staff, like stars in a night sky, shine with attentiveness and amiability. They are as constant as the North Star, adhering unwaveringly to their opening hours. The ale flows like a well-tended stream, its quality unimpeachable, and the fare offered is a delightful symphony of taste, echoing the essence of a quintessential country pub. What more could one seek in this haven of rustic charm and heartfelt hospitality?

My brother and I happened to walk into this pub after a hike on the Downs. We had been rejected by pubs in Ditchling, so thought we would take our chances here. The menu is out of date on here..... Amazing food and great service but rubbish beer selection. In 2019 gave us a 10% discount for staying at South down way camp site. Lovely evening and initially 5 star. On return in 2022 no discount, food quality good but bit pricy, sadly no IPAs or ales at all. On Harvey's best. At least get some cans in, amazing brewery in Lewes and a microbrewery five minutes walk. Disappointing as it's the only pub walking distance to the camp site.

I visited The Greyhound on Wednesday 20 April 2022 in the early evening, a weekday during the Easter school holidays. I was with three other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place. We were staying at the Southdown Way Caravan & Camping Park, about a 10 minute walk down the road. The pub comprises of a couple of medium sized dining areas with plenty of tables with full table service. It was very quiet. The team were very friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and enjoyed the experience - we were well looked after throughout. I enjoyed a shared baked camembert for my starter, chicken skewers for my main course and a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert. The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food felt slightly overpriced, I paid just under £40 for three courses (one shared) and drinks. Overall I enjoyed my visit.

Came for a Sunday lunch here for the first time. My husband was told he could not enter while wearing his face covering which is a snood type. They said it must be a mask. Government guidelines clearly state a face covering is something that covers the mouth and nose and can be a scarf, bandana, hand made cloth covering or religious garment, basically anything that fits snugly round the nose and mouth. The roast was average and was disappointed that even though it was £14.95 for roast beef they clearly used frozen roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. The vegetables were just about cooked so a bit too underdone for my taste. The staff were very pleasant but wouldn’t go fora roast there again.

It has been difficult of late to enjoy a family meal out. With grandchildren aged 4 and 7 many places are either too adult or lack quality fare. Our recent experience at the Greyhound showed how it can be done. Even during the obligatory temperature check the proprietor spoke cheerily to the children and quickly took us to our reserved table. Monty the dog was the hit of the evening and the children enjoyed playing with him while awaiting their meals. At 6 pm the pub wasn't full, it was a perfect time for a family of 6. The vast menu came as a surprise as so many places have pared back. The food came quickly and was delicious, followed by huge desserts. Every Covid 19 precaution was taken and we felt very safe, unlike many pubs I've visited it is being taken seriously here. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. Unlike the Greyhound of old the refurbishment has resulted in an uncluttered yet warm atmosphere, a great place to spend an evening. My only criticism is a lack of vegan options, there are a few but more would have made this review 5/5

Lovely pub and nicely refurbished but very disappointing roast for the price. Just 2 slices of beef, tiny hard roast potatoes and meagre veg. Literally one floret of broccoli and spoonful of creamed cabbage. Gravy was trickled on and there was no option for more. Not good enough for £14 a head when there are other pubs in area who serve a MUCH larger portion with a dish of 4 veg and jug of gravy on side (Horse in Hurst) for same price.

I had an appointment in Hassocks so thought we might pop in to the Greyhound for an early lunch having heard that there was a change of management and noticing from their website they had calves liver on the menu which is a favourite of mine.We were warmly welcomed by the young lady behind the bar, who asked if we would prefer to eat in the bar or the restaurant, we were the only people in the restaurant although others arrived after us and sat in the bar. Each table had a small vase of flowers, a nice touch. The décor is a little dated but it was refreshing to see it hadn’t been stripped out and it retains the character of a good old fashioned local pub rather than the artificial vision of an interior designer. The menu is much cheaper than the gastropubs in the area, my husband chose a very good beefburger for £8.95 which came in a excellent quality bun, with homemade coleslaw and chips. I had calves liver and bacon with onion gravy and savoy cabbage for £10.95, it was delicious and a well priced Merlot went well with it. Desserts were only £4.95, I chose the lemon & ginger cheesecake, lovely. There’s a garden at the back, though being October we didn’t take advantage of it, but being south facing it will be nice in the summer. I overheard people asking about Sunday lunch, the barmaid was saying they are always busy so it’s best to book, and at £12.95/£10.95 for a roast I can see it will be popular. The menu says children’s meals are £5.95 and most meals can be done as a child’s portion for children under 8yrs which is a real step forward as so many places just fob kids off with a nuggets & chips menu and our granddaughter likes proper food with vegetables so we look forward to returning with the family at some point. The free wifi wasn’t working on our visit but I’m sure that will be easily fixed.

Under new management (or rather return of previous boss and long-missed Hassan), this good old-fashioned village pub offers again a great and varied menu of wonderful home-cooked dishes, and we cannot recommend this friendly local highly enough.

Lovely landlord and brilliant freshly cooked food - we had the Mediterranean Chicken and the Tagliatelle Carbonara. Glad the new ownership are so good - will make this a regular visit

Have used this pub on numerous occasions over 20 years . The food is always really good and the staff friendly and helpful. Looks and feels like a proper beamed pub, with a nice garden for the summer including a heated and covered outside area. Need some TLC on the décor but otherwise a stereotypicval old world country pub

Had an amazing Sunday roast....catered for 11 and all food came out together and piping hot. A lovely pub, very friendly, would definitely recommend

New management under saied...who comes from a fine stable of good dining. Making his mark with a slow but thoughout transformation from boozers pub to an enjoyable experience that this pub has long needed. Thoughts of snug bar with newly restored parquet flooring (ridding the nasty red carpet is under way!) original fireplace is currently being overhauled so a Prosecco or a beer can be enjoyed while enjoying a real log fire. This is not an overnight makeover but be assured the kitchen is far greater than the decor to date. A newly installed pizza oven is a huge welcome and they are delicious +++ and with plans for pizza takeaways, I can see this being a very welcome addition to the village.
