Oh dear. Went to have lunch as 3 families (11 of us in total) and from the moment we ordered it was truly awful. Rude, harassed staff, slow service and mediocre food. Despite saying we were together and wanted our food together - kids do not want to watch their friends eating - all 3 sets of food came out 30 minutes apart. So the first family had to eat and then wait nearly an hour and a half to see the 3rd family eating. Kids were kicking off and when we said ‘where is our order’ the waitress snapped that the ‘chef was stressed’ !! No apologies - treated with contempt. One cheese sandwich came with ham, extra portion of chips was missing, gravy had to be repeatedly asked for. It was only burgers, chips and pizza, not even roast dinners. Do NOT go here for food.

Initially came to the pub due to the Thatched Inn closing for food service. Looked what was nearby and picked the Greyhound. Service was terrible with staff not knowing the menu. 10minutes for sauces to arrive after meals arrived. No cutlery or salt and pepper provided. Ran out of one dish and informed after we had ordered. Burger and chips were terrible with the burger patty being one from a cheap burger van. Small portions and terrible quality. Save yourself some grief and get a better meal with staff that are competent and go to the Thatched Inn only 5 mins away.

This pub is lovely in many ways. Staff were welcoming and very helpful. The pub had a great atmosphere but my word the food took away any desire for me ever to return. I was looking forward to my good because I saw sandwiches which looked great and gravy boats being brought out to those with pies which I thought was a great touch. But, after a long wait and some good advice from the person who delivered our food on plates so hot that we were told absolutely not to touch them- the food for both of us was awful. The peas were bullets, the sausages with the toughest skin were ok but I have no idea how the mashed potato was achieved. It tasted bizzare and I don’t believe could have been freshly made. The pizza was the worst I’ve ever seen served at a pub- the bottom of the barrel supermarket freezer type and garlic bread equally as low standard. I don’t usually complain and I wish I had the courage too on this occasion. I know the pub trade is hard but you must have some very kind locals to keep returning if this is the food you serve. I hope you consider the comments and perhaps improve the pizza and sausage and mash at least. Sorry but I read good reviews before I came in so somebody has to say something.

Just spent 5 days camping near the Greyhound. My mate, Simon, and I were made extremely welcome by the landlords and their staff as well as the regulars. By the second evening, we were on first name terms with many. We joined in the quiz night on Wednesday, coming 7th. Simon had a go at the open mic on Thursday. And on Friday, when the Internet went down, we were even allowed to have a tab that we settled up on Saturday just before we set of back home. Well done everone at the Greyhound from the Staffordshire lads, John and Simon. We will be back

Great "old world" pub, lovely well trained staff, it has recently changed hands and the new owners have brought the pub back to it's pre-covid glory. The beer and wine line-up has had a refresh to includes Harveys, Guiness and Beavertown Neck Oil on draught, there are also some great new world wines to choose from. Board games available in the snug area (to the left of the bar)!

I took today tried the Sunday Roast at The Greyhound. I have lived in the area most of my life and always like a good place locally for a roast. The new owners have refurbished the pub and the dining area was clean and well decorated. The roast was excellent. Lovely crispy roast potatoes , three well cooked portions of fresh vegetables, homemade yorkshire and lots of gravy. I went with my daughter who is vegetarian and she enjoyed the nut roast. We had a side order of cauliflower cheese. The service was good. Friendly smiling staff. We will be back

My partner and I visited this pub a few weekends ago, excited by the promise of a hearty roast dinner in a pub with new management. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. While the ambiance of the pub was pleasant and friendly, the roast dinner itself left much to be desired. Priced at £18, I expected a meal that would justify the cost, but sadly, it did not. This is coming from someone that's lived in London for the past few years and is used to paying this type of price. The vegetables served alongside the roast were really not great, both in appearance and taste. It seemed as though they had been microwaved with no seasoning and bland. The potatoes, while flavorful, were disappointingly dry and chewy, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the meal. I opted for the chicken, which thankfully was one of the better parts of the roast. It was cooked and seasoned well. In summary, the pub offers a cosy atmosphere, and we really enjoyed the range of board games, however the quality of the roast dinner did not meet our expectations. For the price charged, we definitely would have expected more.

We booked a meal for eight people plus two dogs, only upon arrival the kitchen was closed! We had to wait half an hour for it to open. Although the pub / restaurant is supposedly dog-friendly, we were told for future reference that customers with dogs aren’t allowed to make bookings and must take their chances as walk-in customers only. The whole place was really dirty and smelly, the smell was so bad it ruined the dining experience. The landlady was very dismissive to the point of rude and told us that the pub is so busy that returning customers are not a requirement! No problem as I won’t be returning.

In the gentle embrace of new stewardship, I believe it's time for Google to turn a fresh page and renew the statistics. It's unfathomable to imagine a world where this establishment garners anything less than a celestial five-star acclaim. The new guardians of this tavern have woven a tapestry of warmth and jubilation, enveloping the space in a cocoon of conviviality. The staff, like stars in a night sky, shine with attentiveness and amiability. They are as constant as the North Star, adhering unwaveringly to their opening hours. The ale flows like a well-tended stream, its quality unimpeachable, and the fare offered is a delightful symphony of taste, echoing the essence of a quintessential country pub. What more could one seek in this haven of rustic charm and heartfelt hospitality?

I visited The Greyhound on Wednesday 20 April 2022 in the early evening, a weekday during the Easter school holidays. I was with three other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place. We were staying at the Southdown Way Caravan & Camping Park, about a 10 minute walk down the road. The pub comprises of a couple of medium sized dining areas with plenty of tables with full table service. It was very quiet. The team were very friendly and welcoming and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and enjoyed the experience - we were well looked after throughout. I enjoyed a shared baked camembert for my starter, chicken skewers for my main course and a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert. The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. The food felt slightly overpriced, I paid just under £40 for three courses (one shared) and drinks. Overall I enjoyed my visit.

Came for a Sunday lunch here for the first time. My husband was told he could not enter while wearing his face covering which is a snood type. They said it must be a mask. Government guidelines clearly state a face covering is something that covers the mouth and nose and can be a scarf, bandana, hand made cloth covering or religious garment, basically anything that fits snugly round the nose and mouth. The roast was average and was disappointed that even though it was £14.95 for roast beef they clearly used frozen roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings. The vegetables were just about cooked so a bit too underdone for my taste. The staff were very pleasant but wouldn’t go fora roast there again.

It has been difficult of late to enjoy a family meal out. With grandchildren aged 4 and 7 many places are either too adult or lack quality fare. Our recent experience at the Greyhound showed how it can be done. Even during the obligatory temperature check the proprietor spoke cheerily to the children and quickly took us to our reserved table. Monty the dog was the hit of the evening and the children enjoyed playing with him while awaiting their meals. At 6 pm the pub wasn't full, it was a perfect time for a family of 6. The vast menu came as a surprise as so many places have pared back. The food came quickly and was delicious, followed by huge desserts. Every Covid 19 precaution was taken and we felt very safe, unlike many pubs I've visited it is being taken seriously here. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. Unlike the Greyhound of old the refurbishment has resulted in an uncluttered yet warm atmosphere, a great place to spend an evening. My only criticism is a lack of vegan options, there are a few but more would have made this review 5/5

This is a difficult one, my husband really wasn't keen on this place as they have dogs walking freely around the bar and restaurant whilst we were eating (he isn't an animal lover). The pub dog was well behaved and didn't bother anyone, but the doggy smell was slightly off putting...The Ale was off, but this was quickly taken off our bill. Service was above average and they took the time to talk us through the covid layout and the menu. The food was nice, which is a really basic thing to say, but that was about it. This has been a true "local pub". However, at the end of September 2023, the business ownership changed hands. This is confirmed by other recent reviews and a closing notice on an "A board" outside the pub. At the time of writing, Google has been requested to flag the pub as "Temporarily Closed". We look forward to visiting when it reopens, and hope the new owner retains the atmosphere - just to confirm, it remains closed at the end of February 2024.
