The City Arms in Canterbury

Fantastic little, authentic pub nestled among shops in Canterbury, GB. Loved spotting familiar license plates on the walls and the server was terrifically accommodating offering to snap photos of us. If you're looking for a true British pub experience, this is the perfect spot! The fish and chips were extremely tempting, but opted for Thai that did not disappoint.

Wow! Quirky little bar, but the Thai food is amazing! Better than the local Thai restaurants. Friendly staff and the coconut rice is to die for! Fabulous, will definitely be back to eat there again 😋 x

Lovely atmosphere, great variety of beer, great place to watch the euros, laid out very nicely, had lots of fun. super destination, will be coming back.

Feels like a pub that time forgot. If you're after something old fashioned where you might feel judged for not being a regular, try it out

Had a couple.of drinks here in the afternoon during Xmas hols and new year...cosy and interesting. Staff friendly.

Advertises itself as a 15th-century pub which, I think it’s fair to say, creates certain expectations. In fact, they’ve turned the place into a US diner, complete with crappy metal road signs and ads and neon. How anyone could do that to a historic pub, especially in that setting, then step back, brush their hands and think ‘nice’ is totally beyond me. Tragic, given it’s location and history. So. Won’t be back there until someone steps in and rights the wrongs.

Great pub! Very authentic with its walls. Food is delicious, worth trying local fish and chips.

I had a great time dancing Untill one of the bar staff asked me to leave because I was dancing too hard...? The bouncer told me I had to go and was quite nice about it but I'm still a bit disappointed that i couldn't have danced some more

Me and my girlfriend was in there Saturday night and I was upset as my girlfriend is pregnant and some people Wes trying to cell drugs to my girlfriend and me and I was like can you leave me alone and he said no you can go to a Bank Machine 🏦 to get cash out so I was like no mate I don’t do that and the The doorman was not doing he job and someone else follow us out and try to get money out of my girlfriend and I was like no go and leave us alone so he did this to us so don’t go out in Canterbury anymore people

Verrassend om in een pub ook een Thais menu aan te treffen. Als vooraf satay en gyoza genomen. Smaken goed. De smaak zou nog wat meer tot zijn recht kunnen komen als het even wat gekarameliseerd zou worden. Daarna Pad Thai met eend en massaman curry met beef besteld. Ook dit was goed op smaak en de eend was heerlijk mals. De beef was iets aan de taaie kant. Mogelijk met wat te lang in de curry gelegen. Zeker wel een plek om naar terug te komen.

My friend and I came here for a quick drink and some food. Bangers and mash was actually good, the gravy was perfect! Affordable and well priced. We’re definitely going to come back.

I worked there, the owner is not very friendly and not very clear with what he wants. He has problems with me asking him to pay me every single time. He stopped replying to me at one point when I should have been rehired for the next year. I found another person to replace me for one of the shifts and he went and hired this person for the next few as an alternative. Moreover, the place is badly managed. It has its problems. Especially the general manager. If you don’t want issues, go to another pub on Friday or Saturday night.

Had many take aways from here, unfortunately like everywhere prices have increased which is fair enough. What I can’t accept is the decline in the quality of the food and size of portions. Really disappointed that they would treat loyal customers in this way. I won’t be ordering from there again, I’m sad to say. They have become an enormous rip off. Unless my experience was a complete one off I can’t see how they’ll survive as customers simple will leave and won’t return. Honestly sad to write this review as we like to support local companies, but it seems like they’re taking advantage now.

I love this pub. Small and often overlooked by tourists, it has very helpful and pleasant staff. TV is available for sports but with the sound down. Pub food is Thai as well as the usual favourites.

Hadn't long arrived in Canterbury and felt very welcomed. Had a bud and hubby had a guinness I tried it so he went and got another and finished off my bud. The guy who served us knows how to serve a guiness it was soooo nice, will be visiting again 😊😊

Great little pub with a large range of lagers, gins and shots. Very friendly staff.

We stopped in for some Thai Food which they said was their specialty. It was not. We got Drunken Noodles which were so hot that we had to leave the food. It took them forever to prepare the food. I literally took a nap while we waited. Poor food and a long wait will not allow me to visit there again.

Está en muy buena localización. Me hizo gracia que tuvieran en uno de los grifos una de las cervezas que hacen a escasos kilómetros de mi casa. Sobre la comida, elegimos un par de platos de comida tradicional y algo de thai, muy bien todo, fueron rápidos y nos gustó especialmente el pastel de carne con puré de patata (es difícil que me guste el puré que no es el que hacemos en casa y aquel estaba realmente bueno). Servicio amable y precios asequibles.

We've been here before but this time we arrived and got settled, checked the menu but when we were ready to order, we were told that the guests for two tables that were reserved had just arrived - they were late and hadn't even sat down or looked at the menus so were nowhere near ready to order food or drinks. The young lady then said that we'd have to wait until after them so our food would be an hour or so coming. I did ask her to confirm that, although they were late and we could order there and then before they even sat down, we'd really have to wait that long, she said yes. Unfortunately this didn't impress us so we left. Shame because the food on our first visit was really good which was why we went there again. Probably won't bother next time though.

A lovely place. We sat upstairs loads of room up there. I had scrambled egg on toast it was lovely. Will definitely go again.

Went here as part of the 1st date with my partner and we go back as often as possible. Cute place that also play footy an don't stress to put it on for you either. Staff are amazing and super friendly. We even got free sambuca shots when we went last time which was our 7 months anniversary. Here's to many more visits love you girls xXx

No local beers and rather tacky interior. Not a big fan of the neon sign behind the bar.

Ohhh i so wanted this to be a good Pub. Unfortunately we found it to be grotty and sticky. Blue paper for loo roll. When I told the staff they said sorry it’s all they have got. Great selection of beers though. Mid afternoon on a Saturday.

Ordered via deliveroo from what I thought was a Thai restaurant. I got less than 2 pot noodles for £20. I rang to ask for more food. Told no. Told complain via deliveroo. I asked their address for the restaurant. They refused it. I googled and it's this pub. Dont drink or eat in a place who won't admit who they are. Deceptive is not the word. Never using deliveroo never drinking in this pub. It wasn't even Thai Picture is of a 20 percent off Thai pad King dish which cost £10 we ordered 2.

Very good sports bar, reasonable prices and excellent choice of ales and beers. Complimentary Jager bombs without even asking just for being good group of guys. Will definitely recommend!

Absolutely amazing food. Really nice little unassuming pub down a little street. Few tables to dine at and funky American diner/old school boozer interior. Really a hidden gem. To top it off its has really tasty, authentic tasting Thai food! Staff are friendly and efficient. Really must visit!

Today we randomly dropped into the City Arms Thai/pub in Canterbury. What an incredible lucky find. Mix of lovely locals and a few tourists. We are from Norfolk and my wife said “if we were closer we would eat here every week”. The food was some of the best Thai we have ever had, and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended

Unfortunately since lock down the pub has reopened with a different demographic focus. Will not return 😕

Fun place for a few drinks in central Canterbury

Ok if you only want to watch sport at full volume. Never again, rugby supporters forced my family out of the snug by being loud, rude and ignorant of anyone else. Staff even helped them by letting them have control of the TV. If you want a nice pub, good food or friendly atmos go elsewhere

Used to be top notch but has been taken over and has lost it's ancient pub feel to a more modern decor.... Same with the food, used to get a large plate of home cooked now it's more modern quick cook, small meal...

If you are Gay I don’t recommend this pub. Just endured an uncomfortable lunch listening to the Eastern European male barman discussing with locals at the bar how unfortunate it is that an acquaintance has a lesbian daughter. My wife & I felt very awkward having to listen to his homophobic attitude. Think the staff need to attend a diversity course!

This pub is amazing! We arrived at opening time. Lots of cosy little sings to relax in. The bar was flooded with a huge array of Beers & Ales. And the back shelf was full to The brim with just about every spirit you coukd think of. The barmaid was amazing in every way possible! She was on her own and did not stop cleaning and serving the whole time we was in there!. She was so freindly and enthusiastic and very knowledgeable . I would hire her in a heartbeat! We can't wait to go back !

We just happened to stop in during a day trip to Centerbury. The local guys who were hanging around The City Arms were absolutely adorable. They were friendly and helpful and a lot of fun. The menu had some interesting menu options, but for us the best part was being able to spend a totally relaxing and enjoyable hour with some true locals.

Really disappointed with my Uber Eats order. We both ordered the Massaman curries and instead some red salty water arrived. It lacked any flavour other than salt and didn't contain any potatoes or peanuts which you would expect.

Great little boozer for a nice pint , music and sport!

Very friendly staff, but do not eat there !!!! It took ages before being served, and the quality of the food was far below average. The gravy was so thick that it looked like jelly, sausages were looking and tasting horrible, and the mash was as hard as concrete, but even so, it was still better than the scampi !!!! The only meals which were okay were the salad, surprisingly good, and the fish and chips. Starving seems a better option than this Pub.

The City Arms has a reputation for selling some of the best beer this side of the Medway. Historic pub sells it's own brews, fantastic quality.
