Just had lunch at this pub, the most atrocious food we've ever eaten. Would we go back? DEFINITELY!! For one reason only, BOBBY, the young man who was left front of house on his own, after coming in on his day off because they were so short staffed. He was serving drinks, taking orders, running food, clearing plates, sorting out bills. He did all this with a lovely smile, great attitude, patience and friendliness, when he probably just wanted to walk out the door. He is a credit to the Even hill and I hope they realise what a gem they have.

Despite the recent poor reviews we visited the Evenhill a month ago and had a decent lunch, indeed I posted a positive review to that effect, believing that the Evenhill kitchen had 'turned a corner' . How wrong could I be? We visited the Evenhill for lunch today, placed our orders, Beef Lasagne and Vegetable Lasagne, got our drinks and settled down awaiting our food. After about fifteen minutes the barman returned to our table to explain that due to Xmas / New year and delivery problems our lasagne's were not available, in fact he explained that all fish, meat or chicken dishes were 'off' Undaunted we ordered sausage and mash and Scampi in the basket but received Vegetable Sausage and mash and Sausage and mash! The barman offerred to have a Scampi meal prepared but we decided to run with the sauasage and mash to avoid the delay. That was mistake No2 the sausages were OK but the beans, brocolli and cauliflour were raw and inedible, perhaps the cook forgot to light the gas? We paid for the 'meals'and left, never to return, unless the pub has new ownership. Good point though, the Whitstable Bay Ale and Malbec were fine!!

Visited the Evenhill for an evening meal .Have previously been a regular visitor to the Evenhill before it changed hands where the food was always good and of a high quality. The food we received was of cheap poor quality and we were shocked how much the food and quality of food had gone down since our last visit . We eat out regularly and in our opinion is the worst food we have ever had in a restaurant . The whole experience was like faulty towers. What a shame as the Evenhill used to be an excellent restaurant with high quality food and service.

Staff friendly, and bar was decorated lovely for Halloween. Weve visited a few times now. When we visited a few weeks back, i ordered a jacket potato with Tuna Mayo, and the Tuna was sooo wet from too much mayo, it ruined it. The coleslaw my friend had was the opposite, and dry… This time, we had Lasagne, which we both were looking forward to trying, but sadly the top was so hard i struggled to cut it, let alone eat… the filling itself was pleasant. Unfortunately, both of us ended up with upset stomachs the same night…. A shame, as we both like visiting, and have had meals that have been lovely. Maybe a different cook this time?

We had Sunday lunch. The food was exceptional. There were three choices of meat/poultry. None overcooked or dry. The roast potatoes were really good. The fairly limited vegetables were well cooked and prepared, although the carrot and swede did taste like carrot and sweet potato. Service was very good. Attentive, but not intrusive. The original beams and floor add to the ambiance. I'd definitely recommend paying the place a visit.

Interesting place, very nice rooms and quirky but nice building, the pub itself also very nice, let down in the restaurant, does that look like a £17 burger and the chips were bearable, turned round and the German couple identical meals but with proper chips this after my first choice at 6:30 Te Steak pie was not available, you can have turkey one, nope I think not, then couldn’t charge my meal to my room, so nice place not the best service experience, but I must say the burger was nice and tasty just not much of it.

The hotel is behind the pub and you have to checkin in the pub amd thrn walk across the large carpark to access your room ,go for meals etc. The hotel is secured by access control The rooms have air conditioning The bed is very firm The shower is very akward to set to a safe temperature and should have a tmv or a easier way to set the shower, The tv was excellent and to have two chairs was a plus. The downsides are 1.All the doors squeak 2.Every door slams so your woken each time a door is closed. 3.When people walk along the corridors you can hear so there is no sound proofing. The restaurant seems to run out of meals very quickly leaving you with reduced menu even at the start of the day at breakfast and evening meals. The prices are higher than i,d expect for drinks but there is a premier supermarket if you can be bothered. The building is very old and authentic but the restaurant windows have aged cobwebs which should be cleanedn away. The actual rooms are well maintained eith toiletries etc. Howletts zoo just up the road.

We were a party of 5 who visited for a birthday lunch. The restaurant was not busy but the service was incredibly slow, we were there for over 2 hours! They have a very strange policy of having to order all three courses at once which caused us to have to cancel some desserts during the meal as we were too full. We had the bruschetta and prawn cocktail to start which were fairly basic but the portions were way too much for a starter. Several orders were wrong in some way eg mash instead or roast potatoes, eton mess instead of sorbet. By far the worst was my daughter’s Caesar Salad that was completely drenched in oil and so many anchovies that it was inedible. I was initially told that was how it was meant to be! On the positive side, the homemade meat pie was probably one of the tastiest i’ve ever had and we were not charged for the salad.

We were allowed to have breakfast with our dog in the bar or in the garden. For breakfast there is a menu with different hot dishes. British egg variations (with sausage/bacon/omelette etc) from which you could choose one at a time. There was also toast, cereal and fruit etc. The associated pub is great, nice friendly atmosphere and delicious 🍺. There is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel, from here you can easily travel to Canterbury. A very nice hiking trail begins behind the hotel, including to Canterbury.

Not the greatest. After a very long walk we just wanted to chill with a drink and think about food. However, pushed into taking menus and when we did eventually choose, I got a cold jacket potato and my son received possibly the worst sandwich ever. It really looked like couldn't care less. £3.00 for the smallest pot of coleslaw which was just an insult on top of the Tesco bread. Apparently under new management. Well hey, shorten your menu, stop staff pushing for customers to eat and for goodness sake put come umbrellas in the garden. I wont be visiting any soon

Very disappointed with our meal with friends at the Evenhill. Service was very slow and with two inexperienced waitresses who found the ordering system from the I pad a challenge. The food was so mediocre! The toad in the hole had a Yorkshire pudding you couldn’t cut and my husband’s hake arrived thrown on what was supposed to be potato bravas and samphire ; it looked like a starter not a main . Chips hugely poor and obviously of the cheap, frozen variety. Most unappetising! Desserts equally poor and could have come from Iceland!! Lovely pub but don’t eat there unless it’s their Sunday carvery.

After reading the reviews we were excited to try the carvery today. It was worse than a microwave dinner. Not sure if they've got dogs down in the kitchen but the roast potatoes tasted like the dogs had licked them. The veg was overcooked and the stuffing and Yorkshire puds were from the freezer. Hugely disappointed with the food. My partner ate his because he was hungry but agreed that we will not be returning for food. With those prices we expected better. Staying at the Evenhill Hotel for a couple of nights we decided to eat in the restaurant one evening. I’ve had mushroom risottos in a number of places over the years, and can honestly say that the one prepared by Lewis (head chef) has to be the best I have ever had! The balance of flavours and the generous quantity of mushrooms were perfect, and it certainly takes something for me to say that. The finalé was the sumptuous chocolate mousse with raspberries and blueberries which was also beautifully presented and the icing on the cake. Thank you for such a delicious meal, and we’ll certainly be back when next in the area.

we booked in for an overnight stay, so also booked a table for dinner. The meals we had were delicious, fresh and with local produce, my partner has the Stone bass, and stated it was better than when we had eaten at a posh brasserie a few weeks beforehand, he also wanted to take home a pack of the bubble and squeak croquettes, they are so and revelation and worth a try !! my steak shin and bishops finger beer pie was yummy, pastry crisp and perfection, I wasn't going to eat the mash that was served with it, but once I had tasted it was game over !! Desserts were just as delicious cherry cheesacake and bscoff slice, both worth a special mention, I would usually have had the sticky toffee pudding with pecan and butterscotch, but the mash put paid to that !! The waiting staff were lovely, attentive and friendly, along with the staff in the bar. After changing from a tenanted to a managed pub, the Evenhill has now settled down, after a few initial difficulties, and once again become the very pleasant place to visit that it always was. The best thing about it is the friendliness of all the staff, who make coming here a really pleasurable experience. Next best is the Sunday carvery, whose popularity speaks for itself (booking advised). There is a good choice of dishes on the daily menu - for example steak, pork belly, fish and chips, sausages, sandwiches - which are well cooked and presented. You can eat in the bar area, or in one of the picturesque rooms of the restaurant If you're after a relaxing, friendly atmosphere and good 'pub grub', this is highly recommended.

Stopped in to try out a local business as we always try to support local, and have to say I’m saddened at the awful experience we had. We ordered Roast ham and eggs. Honey roasted ham, spiced apple chutney (not sure why this is present) eggs and chips £14. Dick Turpin springs to mind because this was sheer daylight robbery. The ham is packet ham, so thin you can see through it, 2 eggs and a few chips (not hand cut) thrown on a plate. Having been nothing short of stalked throughout our meal, by a waiter with little to no skills in front of house, we ate because we were hungry and had no choice but to eat. The tables were sticky and the walls dirty and sashed with food and oil. Some Dead flowers adorned the table, sharing the collected dust with our food, The restaurant was messy and unclean with a shambolic feeling to it, cleaning materials left out on display, items abandoned on the floor covered with a tea towel in a bid to ‘hide’ them from the eyes of customers. The entire experience was dreadful, a very expensive lunch for what it was, £44 which, when given (I mean had the bill tossed at us) the bill and told here you are your bill for you, there was no please or thank you from the unkempt chap serving us. Come on people, it isn’t difficult to keep a place clean and to have your staff turned out looking clean and tidy. Get the pub organised and people may enjoy their experience a bit more!

We had not been to the Evenhill in a long time and certainly not since covid. There has obviously been a change in management and staff since then. We visited late on a Sunday afternoon. We had looked at the menu prior to visiting and...

Another booking cancelled on us last minute, so at the last minute I called in to see if they could accommodate us. The staff were really great and had to check if the chef was still there. Thank god he was! This is the first pub we have been to as a big family, including the grandparents auntie and with a lockdown baby in tow, and the food was simply lovely. We had a fantastic meal in a beautiful restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.Highly recommended the Blade of Beef, 3 of us had it and it was delicious. The baby changing facilities were also excellent!

Such a lovely pub. We stopped in for a late lunch and the quality of food was really high, all freshly cooked and delicious. The staff couldn’t have been nicer or more welcoming. Hopefully we’ll be back!

Came here for lunch with my fiancée. Wow will definitely be returning. Food was amazing and really good value. Staff were friendly and the garden was so nice to sit in and spaced out. Would recommend to anyone.

In these weird times of only outside service it was particularly pleasant to sit in a sheltered area and enjoy great food and wine. The home made burger and slow cooked beef were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious, I had plenty of vegetables with my meal which is a sadly rare thing nowadays. The service from both members of staff was excellent. Would definitely re visit

This place was such great value. Beds were comfortable. Big lovely bath towels. En suite with corner bath and shower. Toiletries and hair dryer. Tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. Clean. Great cooked breakfasts were delicious. Dog friendly with £5 additional charge per night for the pooch. Free parking and well located to a number of sights in the local area. Lovely staff. We will be sure to visit again when back in the local area.

¡Felicidades!

If you are hungry, and have real money don't go here. I made that same mistake. "We only take card" is not acceptable to say to paying customers in this day n age. Especially after one has already placed an order and taken a sip of their pint. It is the closing door on our relationship. I didn't even see a sign on the wall that corroborated that. So I shall never be coming back. 👋 It's not that I can't pay on my own card, but I went with cash to spend. Refusal is on you guys. Just so you're aware, I don't trust all businesses with my card details especially public houses.
