Lovely old pub just beyond the westgate towers. Had a lovely meal of fish and chips and shin beef pie and chips. Both cooked great. Ate early on so atmosphere a little quiet but thats not a complaint, just an observation. Staff interactions all positive and warm. Would recommend.

Very bad service from staff and looks like they are racist, we had some drinks and chips, they served us like we are eating for free. They put the cutlery and sauces in the tables like they don't want us to be there. The ketchup they gave was like its from 1 year back and very bad quality. Not even a single greeting from them, not a recommendation if you are of different colour. 2 ladies were there serving us Monday 6:30 pm at 19th august. Owner should really look after their customer and teach staff how to serve customer

This was our favorite pub in Canterbury. Just outside of the main gate. Lovely beer selection, nice garden. But the food was so much better than "pub grub". All the usual were on the menu, but the chef had more up hus sleeve including pulled duck and even a spicy vegetarian "duck" plate. We had the aged picanha steak and the bishop finger pie. Both dishes were outstanding. Veg cooked beautifully. Lovely peppercorn sauce for the steak along with pickled shallots. The pie was beautifully done. Gr8 pastry, rich filling, nice potatoes. We really enjoyed speaking with the bar keeps. Good place to watch football.

Had one of the best Sunday roasts ever.......went for half roast chicken, which came with 5 large roast potatoes, homemade Yorkshire pudding, yummy honey glazed carrots and parsnips, side plate of red cabbage green beans and swed mash....and the gravy was to die for all homemade, so flavoursome 😋even brought out extra gravy. Then had to try the pudding (shared as was so full) and went for triple choc brownie with clotted vanilla ice cream 😋. The staff were attentive and price was reasonable, especially for being in the centre of Canterbury. Will definitely be returning very soon.

I used to frequent the Bishops Finger pub in the early 1970s so it was not a difficult choice to have lunch there. We were very impressed by the menu and in particular the fish options, which turned out to be excellent. The staff were friendly and as it was so quiet, were attentive to my recollections of a bygone era. It took longer than we expected to receive our food (we were hungry!), but it was worth it. Haddock, chips, mushy peas and a pint made for a great lunch. Very reasonably priced too. This was a case of ‘simple things done well’.

We sat down in an empty room and waited 20 minutes before they came to take the order. It took them 40 minutes to make 4 sandwiches and one portion of chicken wings. The chicken in the club sandwich was as dry as a Timberland boot whereas the so called applewood cheese sandwich was nothing more than two slices of bread (not toasted) with cold cheese inside. The beer was ok (not the dark one) and atmosphere was nice. Moreover, the bill was quite expensive for what we got, how we got it and when we got it. Hoping we just had a bad experience…

The most disgusting food ever served. Shepherds Pie with wilted greens was advertised. Er no, boiled white cabbage with nasty poorly presented burnt Spie. Manager admitted he never ate the food served and took no responsibility as he dosnt eat the pub food. He refused to look at a picture of wilted greens which proved the point. The burger was ok but chips reeking of old oil were disgusting. Young man behind bar charming. He did refund but thats irrelevant. They need new chef and manager. Dont bother going in. Plenty of great places to go. His attitude made it worse. Chef Said he was happy with it but why would you tell boss anything else?

It's was by chance that we came across The Bishops finger, we had walked all around the high street. The staff were brilliant, it was a moden style pub, but had the old school values where the staff take time to talk to you and make you feel welcome. The food was outstanding wish I was staying longer so I could try the whole menu. So if your in the area pop your head in you won't be disappointed.

1st time to the Bishops finger and definitely the last, we ordered our drinks and went and sat outside in the garden, the waitress came over and said she’d give us a few minutes to decide what we wanted to eat from the menu, 10mins went past without seeing her, then she appeared only to sit next to our table on her break smoking like a trooper with her friend, she got up went inside came out again and brought drinks to another table. My wife decided to go inside and order our meals, 2xBurgers, 1 salt beef sandwich, and 1 kids meal, 40mins later the the food arrived and well the salt beef sandwich was on stale bread and had hardly any filling inside, I’d say they made it and left it while they were cooking the rest of the meal ( I should have said it wasn’t even busy) so a 40min wait for our food was absolutely ridiculous. The Burgers were ok nothing special as was the kids meal. As for the waitress She didn’t even come back over to see if we had ordered, but she did have 2 more smoke breaks before we got our lunch. I’m only giving it ⭐️ ⭐️ Because the burgers were ok otherwise it would be ⭐️. Avoid this place its not worth the money or your time

Canterbury is the kind of place that’s primed for a pub crawl. And yet, locals and visitors alike tend to find a favourite and stick to it – like the Bishops Finger. The Bishops Finger is head and shoulders above the competition, one of the area’s most in-favour drinking holes thanks to a huge range of craft ales and great accompanying grub. In summer, the doors are flung open and punters spill on to the street. Staff are enthusiastic and eager to ensure if you have a great time. It’s small enough and busy enough to encourage table reservations.

Staff friendly, and bar was decorated lovely for Halloween. Weve visited a few times now. When we visited a few weeks back, i ordered a jacket potato with Tuna Mayo, and the Tuna was sooo wet from too much mayo, it ruined it. The coleslaw my friend had was the opposite, and dry… This time, we had Lasagne, which we both were looking forward to trying, but sadly the top was so hard i struggled to cut it, let alone eat… the filling itself was pleasant. Unfortunately, both of us ended up with upset stomachs the same night…. A shame, as we both like visiting, and have had meals that have been lovely. Maybe a different cook this time?

Having been coming here as our local for many years , we were very disappointed yesterday for Sunday lunch … we had a one year old child with us and had to wait a very long time for our meal , it wasn’t extremely busy it was 3.30 pm , when it did arrive, what a disappointment the potatoes had either been re-heated too many times or cooked very early in the day you could not cut them , , the beef was very tough to eat ( we all had to ask for steak knives for all the meats as the were tough) and warm in temperature It was the worst meal we have ever had there , we did tell this to the the waitress, with only a response of ‘ oh ‘ then gave us the £135 bill And was charged £11.20 for the children’s meal in stead of the advertised £9.50 , didn’t realise until I got home …. Unfortunately after all these years we will not be returning … but will now look for another Sunday roast local

We came here for Sunday lunch like we have done in the past to meet family. When booking we were told we had to split our party between two tables and 30 minutes apart (the table where they were going to sit was empty for 30 minutes) . We hadn’t even taken off our coats and were asked if we were ready to order. The staff were polite but felt like they were in a rush and not relaxed. We were still eating our starters when we was asked if we was finished. The food was nice but just felt the service was rushed. We were half way through our Sunday dinner when our other part of family sat down. We would have preferred to sit together and waited longer for our food.

Value for money. Friendly staff. But really do not agree with obligatory service charge. I prefer it to be optional. You are presented with a bill that incorporates automatically a significant service charge. Will avoid this establishment until it changes the practice. Returned. Excellent meal. Small plates are not small. Very generous proportions. Friendly cheerful staff. A little wait but not excessive. No longer mandatory service charge. So were rightly awarded with discretionary tip. Will gladly return.
