Quick visit to see daughter and bump and craving a roast. If you love crispy fluffy roasties then it’s hard to beat these tats. The three meat option has to be the choice. Visited a number of times previously , the staff were as usual attentive and friendly helped possibly by a Practically empty dining room. I noticed a bit of a leap in the menu prices and although the food was reasonably cooked , the portions were laughably small .ordered two steaks and I think we got one small steak cut in half! Sadly inadequate for the prices charged. We felt short changed so will not be returning .

There were some nice vegetarian and vegan options which we really enjoyed. The staff were very pleasant. The highlight of our visit was a chance meeting with Ashley Green, a mentalist!! And we were left absolutely speechless with the way he guessed things so accurately. He also showed us some amazing card tricks. I have seen such ginmicks in stage performances, however, experiencing it first hand was something since I'm a skeptic. I have no idea how he did this! I believe he unlocked someone's phone too (with their permission of course haha). He clearly can read minds but HOW!! Truly Amazing ! and a dinner and experience I will remember !!

Can't believe the difference since last here. Food was appalling. My medium to rare steak arrived as dried, medium, and burnt! Service poor. Two waitresses just stood behind the bar chatting whilst customers were sitting with empty glasses, no table service. One table of 6 arrived ordered drinks, and some 10 minutes later, I had to ask where their drinks were. The atmosphere was dead, people sitting at tables with long faces and nothing in front of them. I WILL NOT BE BACK, as I presume the rest of the customers on a Friday night.

My companions and I have lunched at the Granville for a number of years and only had one or two disappointing meals. Yesterday, however, was a new low. The chicken "lollipops" were simply drumsticks dipped in an uninspiring spice mixture and then incinerated; one diner had the salmon fishcakes which were fine but "could have been hotter" and his wife and I both had the normally excellent fish and chips. That, too, was no more than lukewarm and we both left a good portion on our plates - you cannot reheat fish. It is not as though you were busy....it was very quiet, so no excuse.

Went for a 50th birthday lunch for my wife. We had a table for 8. Food was excellent, ranging from a wide range of starters to share and a great selection of mains. Everybody loved it and, all told, with booze it came in at £33 a head. My wife has a nightshade allergy, and the staff and chef dealt with it really well: you can imagine an unusual allergy can be a real pain, but they were troopers. As a result, she and I went back on Sunday for lunch and, to be honest, the Sunday roast is a game changer and the best I’ve had in the area: excellent lamb, velvety parsnip purée, good gravy and terrific vegetables. Delicious and great value for money.

We were sat at the back of the restaurant in a separate part which was cold and smelt of cooking fumes . Staff were polite but indifferent . Food was nearly all cold and although the steaks were nice . The chips were overcooked, the crème brûlée was greasy/ oily and overall the quality of the food was poor . Stopped here as the other place we wanted to have lunch at was closed. Exceptional food and reasonably priced . Pleasant atmosphere and good service. If you do not like your meals served on those silly wooden boards ask for a proper plate . Embarrassing and stressful when paying the bill as they do not accept cash. I only had cash as my bank card had to be cancelled earlier in the day . I had to pay on my credit card which costs me more. Therefore I gave no tip. If the waitress had informed us on arrival it was card payment only or there had been a notice outside the place then we would have gone somewhere else and not wasted our time. God forbid if the Granville has a problem with their internet and cards don’t work .

A big disappointment sadly. The food was unimaginative, reminiscent of school dinners. i.e one ;plain fishcake with egg and cabbage. A tough and tasteless steak was an extra £6.50! Chips were good thankfully but didn't make up for overpriced food generally. Unfortunately, the restaurant Manager has an atttitude problem - a bad one. Very snappy and possibly unhappy with her lot? We were a party of 6 and visited on a Friday evening, when they were very busy, which was great to see and meant there was a great atmosphere. We were all looked after very well all evening and the waitresses were attentive and friendly throughout the evening, providing excellent service. The food was delicious and we were all very happy with our starters, mains and desserts. I had the spiced pumpkin and parmesan croquettes to start. They were very tasty and just the right serving size to give something nice to start but not fill me up. The main meal, the butternut squash, sage and pine nut tart, was absolutely delicious! It was cooked to perfection - as were the vegetables on the side and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Really great to have a vegetarian/ vegan option that has clearly had thought put into it and was a bit different too. I would definitely go back and order this again. The rest of the party ordered meat and fish options and were also very happy with their meals. For dessert I had the sticky date pudding - my only regret was that I couldn’t finish it all! It was amazing! Yum! We had a wonderful evening and an excellent meal - thank you! We will be back again before the menu options change!

Went with a group of five other friends and so had to pre-book our food choices because they were so busy with large Christmas parties. I chose Duck confit spring rolls with a chilli sauce. 3 finger sized rolls arrived hardly big enough to hold more than a shred or two of duck fibres. One was burnt! Fortunately there was so much chilli sauce on the plate I used it all to cover up the burnt taste! Then I had Prawn and Saffron Risotto which might sound lovely but it was not! As my plate was put in front of me it smelt fishy and tasted fishy and gritty! Fresh prawns should never taste fishy or have grit in them. The aroma and taste of saffron was non existent and the rice was over cooked. I ate my food without complaint as I didn’t want to upset my friends as they were enjoying their food. It’s a very rare occurrence for me to leave a review but today warranted it. Disappointed to say the least!

We visited The Granville with friends last Saturday evening. We had an early booking at 6:30PM, and after being shown to an empty table that had not been laid, we were disappointed to be told that two of the main courses we chose were "sold out". Very early in the evening for that to happen and one wonders what they did for the rest of the weekend. Food and service was average, added to which we had to attract the server's attention to get the dessert menu. She apologised and said she had forgotten. All in all, it was not an experience that would make us rush back. We also went to The Granville in the recent past for a friend's landmark birthday, again on a Saturday evening. Then - at 9:30PM - the staff made it very clear that they wanted us to leave with loud clattering of plates and removing glasses that were not empty. Generally, I do find that The Granville has been disappointing in recent times.

As regular customers to the Granville, we usually leave very satisfied. However, our recent visit was far from the best. Firstly, although we were greeted by a lovely new gentleman called Alex who we had not seen before (and was nothing but lovely to us), we overheard him being given stern words to by a lady who we can only assume is the manager. It was not nice to hear and partly ruined the atmosphere for us as customers. Secondly, we ordered the catch of the day fish which was priced at £22, the portion was underwhelming for this price point and lacked any expected flavour - the description did not match what was presented in our opinion. In addition, there was a lack of attentiveness regarding drinks and condiments throughout our meal. We are disappointed to write this as we usually enjoy our experience here but felt these points should be brought to attention.

Good Things first. Pleasant surroundings and atmosphere; pleasant if slightly brisk and disinterested service; perfectly Not Bad At All cookery with especially well-cooked vegetables and generous portions in the main courses. Not So Good Things; being served an Anno gin when I ordered a pre-lunch G&T without being asked my gin-related preferences - especially when Anno works out at about £1 a shot more expensive than other gins; ordering ‘nibbles’ instead of starters only to find out that Devils on Horseback at £6 consisted of three tiny prunes shrouded in a wisp of bacon which, by my reckoning works out at £2 a prune, and Worst Of All, ordering a fisherman’s pie for an astounding £18.50 which comprised about a tablespoon of fish/sauce mix under a veritable mountain of mashed potato. (Which, to be fair, was very nice mashed potato, but there are limits to the amount of carbs one person can absorb of a lunchtime.) Now, I do know that times is hard in the hospitality industry, but the sure-fire way to make them harder is to let it show on the menu. Two of us having one pre-lunch drink, a small starter and a main course, with one glass of wine each, paid £ 75 which frankly, is a tad greedy. Shan’t be in a hurry to return.

Enjoyed the offer of 3 courses for £15, which is excellent value for money. I had the mushroom on toast (no photo) followed by the chicken curry, and the brownie sundae to finish.

Had a nice meal here, Booked before coming which was good as they were really busy and turning people away. Food was nice, pub had a nice feel to it , only thing I would say is the service is quite slow with long wait times between meals.

Had a nice lunch here, Booked before coming which was good as they were really busy and turning people away. Food was nice, we had steak , fish and chips and the curry which we all enjoyed. The Pub had a nice cosy feel to it, but I would say the service is really slow with long wait times between meals. I would visit again as the food was tasty and a decent portion.

Came to the Granville for a Sunday lunch based on reviews. Sadly will not be returning. Warm welcome, drinks and lunch orders taken (3 of us) but the wait time for food was unacceptable. No interaction from staff or apology for delay. When it did arrive it was fine, yes they were busy but so are most pubs on a Sunday. We were there for over two hours and we’re not asked if we wanted any further drinks despite empty glasses remaining on our table. Waited again for 2 desserts (nearly 40 minutes and only after we asked if they could be chased up). Staff acknowledged the wait time and removed the cost of the desserts from the bill which we’re grateful for. Lynn was great and the only member of staff who interacted with us. I had the special starter of the day (prawn cocktail) which came in a very small tumbler glass but expected more for £7.90. Other tables around us were not happy either and one couple only had their starters and drinks and left as they were fed up of the wait time. A disappointing visit.

Decided on the Granville for a Sunday lunch based on the many positive reviews. Sadly-and we dislike leaving reviews that are not positive-this won’t be one of them. Welcomed and taken to our table which is in a lovely setting, not cramped next to other...

Pleasant enough, now a food outlet with a small bar. The price of a pint was eye-watering . £5.20 for a Sheps beer in a shops house 14 miles from the brewery is far too expensive.

We were able to park our motorhome overnight (Britstops) and received a warm welcome from the staff. Our Border Collie was well looked after with treats and fresh water. We enjoyed a nice supper in a relaxing environment and look forward to a return visit.
