We came here for Sunday lunch like we have done in the past to meet family. When booking we were told we had to split our party between two tables and 30 minutes apart (the table where they were going to sit was empty for 30 minutes) . We hadn’t even taken off our coats and were asked if we were ready to order. The staff were polite but felt like they were in a rush and not relaxed. We were still eating our starters when we was asked if we was finished. The food was nice but just felt the service was rushed. We were half way through our Sunday dinner when our other part of family sat down. We would have preferred to sit together and waited longer for our food.

Just popped in for a pint today (Friday evening) and the place is buzzing with a really nice atmosphere. Didn’t have any food, but it smelled great and looked amazing. Personally, I am a fan of a wider range of beers going towards craft beer style, but in comparison to many sheps pubs in town, this has a class selection. Lovely gaff and everyone seems to be having a good time in there, including me and my family.

I had the £18 sausage casserole. I always thought a casserole was vegetables and something (in this case sausages). Not so on this occasion. It was meant to be three types of sausage, but they all tasted the same as had absorbed the spices from the heavily spiced baked beans and pinto beans (or similar) that was the casserole element of this dish. I ate the sausages but couldn’t eat the heavily spiced beans, nor the unappealing lump of rather heavy mashed potato. I complained to the waitress that I wasn’t able to eat it, and she said it was new on the menu, and she didn’t really think it could be classed as a casserole. I was still charged full price. Not a happy bunny! Wouldn’t go again. The good thing was that dogs were allowed in the bar, but unlike other local pubs where the staff fussed them and offered them treats, in this pub they were ignored. I found the toilets were very tatty with more rust on the radiator than paint, and paint chipped off the doors and walls. It all seemed rather shabby and run down.

Lovely Pub let down by below average food. Our main courses arrived & were pretty much thrown down on the table in front of us by the waitress accompanied by a “grunt”. We finished our meals & ordered desserts which we hoped would be an improvement but unfortunately we were left disappointed as my so called lemon meringue roulade was dry & tasteless & why did they drizzle a mango sauce all over my mums gypsy tart?!? Very strange!! Would I return there? No, would I recommend? No.

Why only two stars? Simple. It is not wheelchair friendly despite ringing in advance to check. There is too big a "bump" to get in, they really need a ramp. Great little hidden gem in the outskirts of Whitstable town. Last time I was here was 45 years ago and it was a small pub that was very tired. NOT any more! They opened up the bar area, indoor dining, out Dorr pub garden with fantastic views. Food was first class and there is something for everyone. Their dining hours are limited so check first before turning up hungry! Can't say anything bad about the Rose in Bloom except it has transformed totally for the better!!!

Saw a review recently that shocked me to bone - a couple (chinese) came into pub and sadly couldn't get a table - they played the race card on here after (hopefully Google will remove). The team at the Rose are fantastic, they have recently conducted a locals wide clothing drive to collect for injured soldiers in Ukraine, they always go above and beyond including making sandwich and cakes for nurses working during pandemic and hosting a lovely Ukrainian lady. If you want to guarantee a table, please book as one chef covering the restaurant and beautiful gardens. Establishment get busy and I can tell you the Landlord wouldn't turn ££s away if he didn't have to. I am a Whitstable local and use the pub a lot (so see busy and quieter times). Playing a race card is simply not fair and total rubbish!

I just wanted to update my review in light of one i just read on here which reports that this pub is racist. Reviews can make or break a place. I have no doubt that sadly they were unable to seat these particular customers as they were likely overwhelmed. It happens its a good place. However this place is not racist. It is one of the places I would visit with my family from India without hesitation. It is always unfortunate to read a poor review but it needs to be truthful the race card in this current day is a sensitive card to play and needs to be used when there is racism, this pub is simply not a racist establishment and to ensure you get a place you will need to book. food good drink great environment and I won't mention the view see for urself....a place to visit and enjoy xx

If you are not white, don’t bother to come here. People here are very racist. I came here with my husband to enjoy the beach view. When we arrived and asking if we could sit and dine there they said no, they said the kitchen was busy. Though I could see there were only three tables with people and the rests were empty. Soon after that we went back to the car, we saw 4 people came in and then sat without being told to leave like us. The only difference is they are white and we are Chinese.

A lovely hot and sunny day when we visited here for lunch. The table was booked but they were short staffed so we had to order our food and drinks at the bar rather than at the table which was fine However our food order seemed to have been put to the back as others who ordered after us were served first but this was swiftly rectified once my husband went to enquire why our food had not been served. This pub is in a great location with a wonderful garden. The food is above average pub food at a reasonable price. The nearly always female bar staff are five stars. However, the landlord does not care at all for beer/real ale drinkers. Apparently the cellar is in a poor state of hygiene. The beer on offer is always limited to London Pride and Whitstable Bay. Not for the first time I had to return my pint last night. Soapy. The only alternative, Whitstable Bay was just awful. I couldn't get past halfway. Either sort the cellar out and maintain good beers or give up and sell it in bottles. Chris a concerned beer drinker.

Two days ago he rang the pub to confirm and check all was OK. We were all travelling from different areas but when our niece arrived at the pub there was a sign saying no food! Frantic calls telling us to wait where we were until it was sorted. So at the time we should have been sitting down together he was struggling to find somewhere else to for the family to eat. If I could give no stars I would - how can you confirm a booking and less than 48 hours later turn people away saying no food today!

The fish was really good, it was plentiful, seemed fresh and had a good breading. Perfect cooking too. However, home fries would have been greatly appreciated rather than frozen (or fresh but not great). As well as a homemade mayo would have been nice. The view outside is magnificent and the Guinness was very good. We would also have appreciated if someone brought us water, or if someone offered it to us during the meal. Maybe in England you have to ask. Decent restaurant, with great potential, it can really become a must in Whitstable with a few improvements.

Visited here on Tuesday with my baby grandson. Sat in the garden to see 2 very distressed dogs on the roof terrace. One had climbed over the sloping roof and the other one couldn’t get to him/her. The whining and crying that was coming from this dog was horrendous. Apparently they had been left since Midday and the noise had been going on most of the day. With the bar staff not being able to get into the owners accommodation to help them. Everyone in the garden was v distressed seeing if they could climb on something to get the one that seemed stuck. The owners eventually came home (about 6pm) you would have thought they might have come out in the garden to apologise! Not enjoyable and very close to calling the RSPCA

Having been coming here as our local for many years , we were very disappointed yesterday for Sunday lunch … we had a one year old child with us and had to wait a very long time for our meal , it wasn’t extremely busy it was 3.30 pm , when it did arrive, what a disappointment the potatoes had either been re-heated too many times or cooked very early in the day you could not cut them , , the beef was very tough to eat ( we all had to ask for steak knives for all the meats as the were tough) and warm in temperature It was the worst meal we have ever had there , we did tell this to the the waitress, with only a response of ‘ oh ‘ then gave us the £135 bill And was charged £11.20 for the children’s meal in stead of the advertised £9.50 , didn’t realise until I got home …. Unfortunately after all these years we will not be returning … but will now look for another Sunday roast local

Lovely old pub just beyond the westgate towers. Had a lovely meal of fish and chips and shin beef pie and chips. Both cooked great. Ate early on so atmosphere a little quiet but thats not a complaint, just an observation. Staff interactions all positive and warm. Would recommend.

Staff friendly, and bar was decorated lovely for Halloween. Weve visited a few times now. When we visited a few weeks back, i ordered a jacket potato with Tuna Mayo, and the Tuna was sooo wet from too much mayo, it ruined it. The coleslaw my friend had was the opposite, and dry… This time, we had Lasagne, which we both were looking forward to trying, but sadly the top was so hard i struggled to cut it, let alone eat… the filling itself was pleasant. Unfortunately, both of us ended up with upset stomachs the same night…. A shame, as we both like visiting, and have had meals that have been lovely. Maybe a different cook this time?

Fantastic little, authentic pub nestled among shops in Canterbury, GB. Loved spotting familiar license plates on the walls and the server was terrifically accommodating offering to snap photos of us. If you're looking for a true British pub experience, this is the perfect spot! The fish and chips were extremely tempting, but opted for Thai that did not disappoint.
