The best restaurants serving British food in North West

As a family, we eat out often and got fed up of the average run of the mill places we usually go and wanted to try somewhere new and The Wheatsheaf had been on our radar for quite some time so we finally gave it a go and we're so glad we did. This is a proper traditional pub setting and is family run - all the people who work there are amazing and can't do enough for you, they're a credit to the place. The food is absolutely amazing and all freshly cooked to order. My favourite main meal I've had (so far) is the steak and ale pie with chips - I poured mine out over the chips and tucked in and oh my goodness, it was heaven! My favourite starter (so far) is the halloumi fries which are nice and chunky. I will definitely be returning again to try out the Sunday roasts which I've heard a lot of good things about. Can't wait.

Brilliant service, staff couldn't be more attentive with regarding my awkward allergy. Conveniently my booking was the right date for new menu launch.

Was here for my mums birthday in April. We had booked a few weeks in advance as there was 12 of us going. It wasnt a great time as there was only one waitress on at the time for the whole restaurant. We had to wait to get drinks ordered and a while for our food to come which in some cases was a little cold. But the waitress Angela Thomas was great . She was very polite , professional and very apologetic when we had to wait around for food and drinks. well done Angela and Thank You x

We came here with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. What can I say the food is to die for and our waitress was amazing and very attentive. I never expected for one of the chefs to come out of the kitchen and present the meal to us! It was amazing! They even gave us an anniversary plate which was very nice and warm touch! Will definitely be back!

Cenamos el sábado 15 de marzo como regalo de cumpleaños para mi esposa. Perfecto para parejas o grupos íntimos pequeños. Ambiente romántico con una decoración muy agradable. La comida era absolutamente encantadora, de alta calidad y muy llena! Nuestro camarero Ferdinard era fantástico, él era educado, atento y simplemente en el lugar! Tuvimos la mejor noche, muchas gracias!

In April 2023 on Easter Sunday I went to this chippy and the staff was being rude to me and playing tricks with me and the staff had no manners whatsoever but chips and gravy was fine

We are sat in Thornton Lodge after having a great meal. Once again the meal wad perfect...thank you Twiggy it was fab. The staff tonight were so lovely. Thank you Alex you are a day of sunshine and Emilyyou are a little pocket rocket..Owen what a guy...so on the ball ..all in all you are all amazing . May it continue..we have had a fab night.

We visited for afternoon tea on a Saturday afternoon. The greeting we got wasn't great. Spoke to 3 young girls before we were seated. We had afternoon tea which was average but had to ask for plates. No cream with our scones, just jam. It was unlimited tea and coffee but we had to ask for a second cup. No one asked if everything was ok with our food. The staff were very young but lacked leadership. Don't think we would return.

Been hear a lot of times food is usually good had a roast dinner today most of the food was cold so did not really enjoy never complained as food is usually nice and hot

Amazing food!! My boyfriend and I ate here after a walk and the food was so tasty! Service was good as well and it was really pretty! The fish and chips were tasty and presented really nicely!

Georgous little beer garden, staff couldn't do enough for us. Dog friendly. Will definitely return lovely atmosphere here a must visit 😊

Great breakfast , but over £100 in parking fines , staff did not tell us we had to register to not get fined , apparently there are signs but who can read those when trying to get multiple children into a venue !

This Hotel was the worst I have ever been to. Mould in the bath/Shower Poor Wi-Fi Blood on the carpet Noisy guests on either side No staff on site at night or weekends
